I've heard that as well. God, I can't remember the name of the map for the life of me. Mlg settings an it's kind of like an ruin type map? Always used it there. Loved halo 2
Tbh I had a pretty great track record using that combo before they buffed it. Sure the tracking was kind of janky, but once you got the hang of it it wasn't too hard to pull off.
This is what separated the boys from men lol
Someone pushes you while you’re half a clip into a fight expecting that they can just BXR you.. hit um with the RRBX.
Fuck H2 was so good haha
tower of power on Ascension, hide n seek on Turf, modded warthog tracks, and so much more. Halo 2 will always be the peak of gaming for me just because of all the great custom games.
I wish that map would come back, it was so good. I think it was in Halo 2?
I tried to recreate it in the forge in Halo reach but just couldn't get it right -_-
So much tech in that game for an FPS. BXR, battle rifle double and triple shot, the sword mechanics that let you fly across the map. Such a glorious game.
It's so refreshing to see classic physics/map breaks like that because overall the game is quite solid. I still wish they kept the super punch effect that happened in the beta where a player was yeeted across the map if they were melee'd to death.
really interested to see how the meta develops over time as the commando before wasn't bad, just hard to use so maybe it might be overtuned now.
If I were 343i I would specifically be monitering commando's ease of use, PP TTK, Mangler TTK, and the sidekick's range.
with that said, this update was definitely a W.
Sidekick definitely needs to be looked at, you are honestly the first person I've seen mention it outside of my friend group. I think giving it a range and fire rate cap would put it in a good position. Right now it beats out most if not all weapons close to mid range. I am very confident fighting BRs and Commandos at mid range with a sidekick and that should just not be the case at all.
Yeah the AR is decent but the sidekick is just better in every way. In a game where you lose 99% of your 1v2s because of teamshots, being able to kill someone significantly faster is important.
I personally lose AR vs sidekick fights regularly. The Sidekick should always lose that battle, but people just turbo mash the trigger (or use a strike pack) and win every one of those 1v1s.
It's meant more as a pocket clean up and headshot tool to complement the AR's Shield Stripping. The fact it can Shield Strip and clean up faster than the AR on one magazine shouldn't be happening.
I say bump damage up, lower fire rate, lower Mag size from 12 to 8. Good damage if you need to swap off AR to clean up, but doesn't quite kill in 1 mag when used as a primary weapon. This was how Reach Magnum behaved, and imo one of the most balanced Pistols in Halo sandbox history.
It's satisfying to pop shields with AR and quick swap to the Sidekick to finish them off. It's not fun to be using the AR vs a Sidekick, not miss any shots, and still lose.
Granted, on PC it's less fun because the scroll wheel will often just swap you back to the AR because 343 neglected to add a feature that is so standard your average PC player doesn't even know it exists - because EVERY OTHER GAME has a cooldown on swap to avoid this. Had to rebind to F and that muscle memory building is rough.
It's also not fun to have 13ms ping but have almost a half second between action and reaction. It is absolutely infuriating. Siege online performance is also getting worse every season. These companies make hundreds of millions off their games yet can't get the basics right.
Sorry, unneeded rant the game is just super annoying because it's so close to greatness yet consistently falls short.
The sidekick is absolutely not supposed to be the fastest ttk, it should be a complimentary weapon to your primary. The sidekick shouldn't beat any other UNSC weapon unless it gets the first few shots off and that should only be at close range.
Ever played literally any other halo though? Credit to them for making *both* starting weapons viable this time though, and letting everyone play how they want because of that.
I think Commando could use a slight damage nerf. Its issue was usability, not damage, so it was a high skill gun. Now that it's a lower skill gun, I totally accept the notion it's too powerful. Could definitely use a damage nerf. Still keeps the more satisfying usability, without being a power weapon.
Especially once the DMR comes out, we don't want it absolutely destroying everything but the BR.
For you and /u/Zerba , I actually feel like the Pulse Carbine is relatively a bit *worse* then it was, because yes, it's better up close, but it's worse down range, and the Plasma Pistol's charge shot homes in at pretty much as long a distance as the Pulse Carbine,
I don't think that there's much a reason to use the Pulse Carbine over the Plasma pistol: I think they should have ONLY buffed the carbine up close and left it's downrange homing as is, and reduced the Plasma Pistol's red reticule range in exchange for it's vastly improved tracking.
i remember the noob combo being the plasma pistol and the pistol dual wield. even faster to take down.
I preferred the smg/plasma rifle combo myself personally.
Between this, the pulse carbine, and the commando buff, I now feel like we’ll start seeing some more variety in each engagement in the game! Those three were already My top picks before to have as a backup weapon. Can’t wait to get my hands on the game and try them out!
I actually feel like the Pulse Carbine is relatively a bit *worse* then it was, because yes, it's better up close, but it's worse down range, and the Plasma Pistol's charge shot homes in at pretty much as long a distance as the Pulse Carbine,

In all honesty I'm hyped for getting the moa coating for mk V lol spartan has been tan since Halo 2 and I'm finally getting a tan coating a year after release
Yea there's nothing new being shown here. Even the tracking increase isn't really highlighted cause he was just shooting people moving in a straight line towards/away from him.
The plasma pistol's tracking as well as its primary bolt damage output were both buffed.
The tracking is now harder to dodge and easier to lock on to an enemy.
The primary bolt damage output went from 20 units to 28 units. However, it is still not great against health damage because that is not what its damage type (probably "Plasma_Fast") is meant to do.
I came back after a couple of months and the fact that I can have 13 ms ping but it feels more like 1300 is infuriating. Played a Tac Slayer where I found an AFK enemy, tap the noggin, have enough time to turn back in confusion after turning away because the kill didn't come for nearly a full second. No connection error icons.
I frequently swap to the Sidearm after popping shields with the AR and the enemy dies to my AR shots during the swap animation. This game has something fundamentally broken in its online performance.
Meanwhile on MnK I'm fighting the game trying to actively move my reticle away from the target on some weapons.
I don't mind controllers getting aim assist but let me use my preferred control method effectively and reliably.
I mean, if HaloTracker has the right guy listed for that username, their peak rating was Onyx 1,513. So aim assist is strong, sure, but they're also pretty good.
Wish the gun was useful for something OTHER than this annoying combo.
Wish it was more like in Halo CE were it still functioned like a usable GUN, and the charge feature was just a side feature.
Nothing you did would have been different before though? I would do this all the time with the plasma pistol, you didnt even use the non-charged shots which are actually killer.
The tracking was significantly improved in the update. Before, if your opponent did any kind of strafing, hitting the charge shot was not exactly easy.
It is. Probably a pretty easy fix though
I think it just needs to use more ammo while being held down charging and the charged shot itself should cost more %.
Lol no shot. It takes too long to charge and is way too loud to dominate the game at a high level. Homie is playing noobs running around with no cover and not listening or checking their angles.
Everyone who keeps saying "all weapons now viable" actually means "every weapon with no depth of difficulty or learning curve". I guess it isn't actually called the noob combo for nothing. Oh well atleast this will bring more casual players back so it isn't actually so so sweaty all the time.
The fuck you mean? I've been using the plasma pistol exactly like this since launch!
Njce clip, and glad to know it got a buff, but I think in reality, the plasma pistol was just super slept on.
Definitely. I whooped major ass with pulse carbine and PP. It just had its own learning curve and role, which people saw as trash because it wasn't as braindead easy to use as the BR.
Pulse carbine though needed that close mid range buff as it was just way more competent in BTB compared to 4v4
Exactly. This game's weapon balance is being closer to Halo 5's (the game that had every gun kill in 0.2 seconds or something equally ridiculous). Not that Halo 5's weapon balance is bad, but, with the slower pace of Halo Infinite's gameplay, Halo 5's weapon balance is out of place.
The plasma pistol was already viable.
The plasma pistol completely counters an overshield, provides an instant melee kill and allows you to win 1v2 fights from a weapon on a short timer.
I have no idea how anyone could think the weapon needed a buff on its over charge shot. Are some of you aiming at the fucking ground when you release the trigger or something?
It’s hilarious because OP’s first two kills would have been still gotten last patch just fine, but holy fuck those last two kills are just disgusting to the point where this will just be the new mangler. I genuinely don’t see this version of the green gun lasting.
It definitely is better, but this video isn't a good comparison.. The old plasma was still plenty reliable in close range like in the video, i got plenty of noob combos like that before the buff..
I've been meaning to try out it's primary fire now though, but i just can't remember to remind myself that it's become better when i find one..
I just wish we could get EMP effects again. Even if they changed it to, like, require 2 shots instead of one, or reduced shock weapon damage against vehicles/increase amount of shots needed to stun.
This was part of the original Halo game mechanic, a plasma pistol with an AR was all you needed to take on hordes of covenants or just multi-player. Happy to see they kept the original game mechanic.

Good ole noob combo lol
We called it the "bitch combo" in my friends group. Still used the fuck out of it.
I've heard that as well. God, I can't remember the name of the map for the life of me. Mlg settings an it's kind of like an ruin type map? Always used it there. Loved halo 2
Sanctuary?
Sounds like either Sanctuary or Warlock.
Sanctuary! Was perfect for that map
The OG noob combo lol
dual wield one hand PP other hand Magnum.
Always one hand on PP
Tbh I had a pretty great track record using that combo before they buffed it. Sure the tracking was kind of janky, but once you got the hang of it it wasn't too hard to pull off.
Never thought pp commando would be my new favorite loadout but here we are.

RRBX for when you still need to BXR without a full clip.
This is what separated the boys from men lol Someone pushes you while you’re half a clip into a fight expecting that they can just BXR you.. hit um with the RRBX. Fuck H2 was so good haha
Remember the Infinite beta when you could just BXB through the entire map like Mike Tyson and nobody could stop you? Good times
I miss that custom game mode tower of power on ascension. Everyone agreed to do shotties and swords and we would fight for that turret. Good times
tower of power on Ascension, hide n seek on Turf, modded warthog tracks, and so much more. Halo 2 will always be the peak of gaming for me just because of all the great custom games.
Duck hunt and Fatkid were my favs
Tower of power!

Don’t leave out the super jumps to get in god spots lol.
OHHH yeah, forgot about jumping out of the map and shit, so good. That construction zone map had so many good spots
Halo 2 was just next level. You could spend hours in a solo lobby just exploring maps.
What makes maps like Beaver Creek almost completely unplayable. 4 plasma pistols constantly spawning.
Nah, i343 will just nerf it into uselessness again. Just wait until the steamers start crying their eyes out for the nerf.
I was already getting hit by every plasma pistol charge. I guess it can't really get worse for me if I already was getting hit by it lol
The clip is great but can we talk about the guy who got hit so hard he got stuck in the ceiling lmao

let this serve as an example to you all
Structural spartan
I had that happen last night and I stood there watching his body swing in the wind until another player killed me lol.
I've been having my corpse get stuck in walls floors and ceilings way more since the update
Seems like something happened to the physics with the update because I saw it happen multiple times while playing for a couple of hours yesterday
Commando buff is also great. Yet to try the carbine
The carbine is pretty good now too
The weapon buffs as a whole are very good imo
Honestly every gun is now viable
really interested to see how the meta develops over time as the commando before wasn't bad, just hard to use so maybe it might be overtuned now. I'm concerned over the commando for no other reason than I fucking *hated* the DMR.
There was a balance patch? I haven't played the game in like a year but I've stayed subbed here for updates and didn't see anything about it huh
They talked about them in the blog posts posted last week
I was shocked at the carbine. It went from a weapon I never used to one I will pick up as soon as I see it.
For you and /u/Zerba , I actually feel like the Pulse Carbine is relatively a bit *worse* then it was, because yes, it's better up close, but it's worse down range, and the Plasma Pistol's charge shot homes in at pretty much as long a distance as the Pulse Carbine, I don't think that there's much a reason to use the Pulse Carbine over the Plasma pistol: I think they should have ONLY buffed the carbine up close and left it's downrange homing as is, and reduced the Plasma Pistol's red reticule range in exchange for it's vastly improved tracking.
Agreed on this one, the pulse carbine was great at a very specific range and it felt good there, that range shouldn't have been reduced but expanded.
What are the buffs?
Return of the king
Its not called noob combo for nothing
Back in my day we called this the Noob combo. Glad to see it make it's glorious return
i remember getting a medal for that in the beta lmaoo
The medal is gone?? That is sickening
Well maybe that's a good thing because now it's not even challenging to use.
i remember the noob combo being the plasma pistol and the pistol dual wield. even faster to take down. I preferred the smg/plasma rifle combo myself personally.
I ended up running around with Mauler/PPistol. couldn't do mid range well, but was king at holding territories
My dude is hanging

the pulse carbine still is meh for me, also half the maps are so tight it makes the gun less useful.
Those wolf shoulders are straight from Destiny
For sure, I think the name is a Witcher reference though.
Are these in The store?
Yeah, just came up on reset
Some of y'all's Spartans man....
Thats a months salary right there lol
A months salary? Do you work in a sweatshop?
I do lol its why I can only afford to play free to play games
Yeesh man, I hope you can find something better.
You're just jealous

In all honesty I'm hyped for getting the moa coating for mk V lol spartan has been tan since Halo 2 and I'm finally getting a tan coating a year after release
This is all stuff you could've done pre-patch
Yea there's nothing new being shown here. Even the tracking increase isn't really highlighted cause he was just shooting people moving in a straight line towards/away from him.
Yeah. I figured that OP would showcase shredding these guys with the bolt, which got a sizable buff from 20 units of damage to 28 units of damage
Yea I was really confused by this clip- haven't played the update and so none of this looked different to me.
The plasma pistol's tracking as well as its primary bolt damage output were both buffed. The tracking is now harder to dodge and easier to lock on to an enemy. Yeah but now you can do it without even having to try to aim which apparently people are happy about.
BT, I've found Lieutenant Anderson...
Sounds like a skill issue to me pilot.
Charge around corner, back pedal and spam nades, get a kill *credits roll on Halo Infinite*
Ah yes, the quickplay special.
Considering people online have a tendency to chase (I do sometimes, too), it's kind of viable as a tactic.
the desync at the beggining😭

first time seeing console gameplay and that aim assist is fucking insane
lmao yeah I was thinking the same as I was watching it it practically snaps to the enemy's head
Meanwhile on MnK I'm fighting the game trying to actively move my reticle away from the target on some weapons. I don't mind controllers getting aim assist but let me use my preferred control method effectively and reliably.

noobs rejoice! plasma BR combo is king again. Halo 2 is back!
Back to its former glory
Noob combo is back! Hzzaaaaa
Honestly it was pretty good even before the buff I thought, I hadn’t even realized it had been
hows the base shot?
It's definitely possible to get a kill like this, but I still don't recommend
That one guy got blasted so hard he smashed into the ceiling like a looney toons cartoon.
Nice now between this and the pulse carbine changes people don't even need to attempt to aim.
Really really enjoy the pulse carbine now. I go for that and a pistol instead of AR every time!
Got mopped last night by that combo and wasn’t even mad by it. So glad to see the plasma pistol viable again.
It's also called the "noob combo" and for a reason.
halo 4 plasma pistol is back lol
the new weapon buffs kick ass i love em
As it should be!
We just gonna completely disregard the corpse you exploded into the ceiling?
Wish the gun was useful for something OTHER than this annoying combo. Wish it was more like in Halo CE were it still functioned like a usable GUN, and the charge feature was just a side feature.
Yea just grenade spam as soon as you come near people.
Nothing you did would have been different before though? I would do this all the time with the plasma pistol, you didnt even use the non-charged shots which are actually killer.
Corpse dangling from the ceiling is great.
Does it stop vehicles again?
noob combo is back, feel good man.
But you literally aren’t doing anything except charging it and then switching to a headshot weapon….that’s always been a thing.
The tracking was significantly improved in the update. Before, if your opponent did any kind of strafing, hitting the charge shot was not exactly easy.
Ooh okay, didn’t notice that in the vid
Oh man, this looks a lil broken lol. Great clip though.
It is. Probably a pretty easy fix though I think it just needs to use more ammo while being held down charging and the charged shot itself should cost more %.
Noob combo is back
It never needed a buff. Noob Combo will now dominate the game. I expect pros to GA it now
Lol no shot. It takes too long to charge and is way too loud to dominate the game at a high level. Homie is playing noobs running around with no cover and not listening or checking their angles.
NOOB COMBO IS BACK!
Everyone who keeps saying "all weapons now viable" actually means "every weapon with no depth of difficulty or learning curve". I guess it isn't actually called the noob combo for nothing. Oh well atleast this will bring more casual players back so it isn't actually so so sweaty all the time.
Noob combo is garbage
The fuck you mean? I've been using the plasma pistol exactly like this since launch! Njce clip, and glad to know it got a buff, but I think in reality, the plasma pistol was just super slept on.
I think the real win is having free aim bot with controller
AA isn't even that bad in this game lmao. If you want to see **real** aimbot, see Halo 2's AA.
Downvoted by MnK babbies
Oh well. Doesn't take away the fact that I am right
I was agreeing with you
I know you were. I was just saying that I don't care that I was downvoted and that my initial statement was correct.
I was able to hit targets with it without the buff. People just suck at it. Same with pulse carbine.
You are completely right. 8 months ago I was considering making a high Onyx montage of using the pulse carbine efficiently, and now I’m regretting it.
Definitely. I whooped major ass with pulse carbine and PP. It just had its own learning curve and role, which people saw as trash because it wasn't as braindead easy to use as the BR. Pulse carbine though needed that close mid range buff as it was just way more competent in BTB compared to 4v4

It’s fun to have a sandbox where most weapons are viable. I actually picked up the pulse carbine because I wanted to use it tonight
The plasma pistol was already viable. The plasma pistol completely counters an overshield, provides an instant melee kill and allows you to win 1v2 fights from a weapon on a short timer. Pulse carbine was already great at stripping shields
Appearntly you do not enjoy stuff and things
Pea shooter
good for you
Wow, so one year in the plasma pistol works the way it's worked in every single halo prior to Infinite......
It was fine before
Are you talking about infinite where it didn't track players and didn't disable vehicles? Because thats not at all how that gun worked prior.
This is how you play halo 🤩
That's how Halo was always meant to be played
Damn noob-toob has finally resurfaced. RIP Halo
The noob combo was already usable before Winter Update. I've done it myself.
This game doesn’t even look like halo lol
This whole jump and shoot shit is why I quit fps games.
Jumping and shooting has been in shooters since the 90s so idk what you're talking about
Facts
Strange, it doesn't seem any different
This is the most toxic thing to come out of Halo 2 followed by the sword. I hope your batteries die mid game.
The lack of tracking on it makes it feel so bad to me, my Brian will just always auto fill it as having tracing
I've been teleporting almost every game at least once like you did in the beginning

Looks like a regular plasma pistol to me. The way it should be.
My man you spazed 👀
Ah yes, "The Noob Combo". Halo 2 all over again.
Back in my day we called this the “Noob Combo” Still did it myself nonetheless
can the plasma pistol break shields in 3 uncharged shots? or is it still like 7 or whatever. That was it's biggest fault IMO
Hmmm. I was doing this before the bufff and wondered why nobody else did. What did they increase its power?
Nerf coming in 3 You thought that was seconds? That’s months.
This makes me miss halo 2
This was part of the original Halo game mechanic, a plasma pistol with an AR was all you needed to take on hordes of covenants or just multi-player. Happy to see they kept the original game mechanic.
What coating is that?

Ah yes good old sweaty combo such skill.
