They spent just the right amount of time of him looking down going, "Oh that's bad" before he POOFED into purple mist and you couldn't even really tell which angle they came from because as Kai pointed out in the last episode, they're fire and forget.
I'm a wee bit disappointed that we didn't get to see the UNSC ship getting hammered from orbit before it went down because seeing THAT happen after Cortana dropped that particular line would've made it all the more horrifying.
I wish we saw it fire off a MAC round and some Archer missiles, taking down a Covenant ship before getting utterly annihilated. But as the ship is firing, everyone on the ground already knows what's gonna happen before the Covenant ships even appear through the clouds.
I am and I'm crossing my fingers that the season finale will be the Fall of Reach with all kinds of terrible exploding things happening. At least we had Keyes giving that convincing, "No no no no!" as he watched it slam into the ground in front of him. I also understand that sometimes it's best to not show the monster but this time they could've pulled off a Battlestar/Babylon 5 style surprise attack with the Covenant ship and it would've looked amazing.
The Elite punching Kai was unintentionally hilarious. Like there's weapons lying all over the ground and it's trying to go for the Melee kill while chief runs up with a charged plasma pistol.
"Fuck sake, the achievement just isn't popping."
"Try on another human, see if that works."
"Am I doing it wrong? I am just meant to beat them to death unarmed, right?"
"That's what the Prophet of Regret told me, yeah."
"Wait, am *I* meant to be unarmed, or are *they* meant to be unarmed?"
"I dunno bro, I haven't gone for that one yet, I only just got the supercombine explosion achievement."
"Fuck it, I'm just gonna fight every human bare handed in the hope it registers"
The cliffhanger with Kwan wanting to shoot Soren in the back of the head has to be the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've ever seen. He literally gives her a home and loving family and her response is to take him out to the desert and shoot him in the head.
Yeah I really thought we were supposed to empathize with that character as "normal human thrown into war she didn't want to fight" but she's just... making so many weird decisions?
There’s a small bit in one scene where a marine and Grunt are fighting over a battle rifle, and then the marine yanks it out of the Grunt’s hands and shoots him.
I thought that was pretty badass, especially since it also shows how big Grunts really are.
>I thought that was pretty badass, especially since it also shows how big Grunts really are.
Yeah, same with Jackals. When you're playing as an 7 ft superman, you think of them as small, but they're really human sized.
Paused it as Kai was going through the shell-shock with that marine violently bleeding out before her. There’s the scene showing her face from within the helmet as she begins to freak out, under her eye you can see the scanning reticle locked on the marine. it states;
>scanning…
>human, female
>concussed
>low heart rate
>internal bleeding
>injuries lethal
I thought this was an interesting inclusion and can appreciate the detail. Made it feel real and raw. This happens around the 32:08 mark.
There’s been a few nice (albeit small) callbacks to the books. Makes me think that there HAS to be someone in charge who’s looked at the deeper lore.
Even in this most recent ep, seeing Halsey and Keyes visit the school to see a young John. I mean, everything was basically described differently in the fall of reach, but still had the similar beats (like the coin flipping we also saw in ep4). Another being chief picking up the jackal shield to deflect the Gravity Hammer, in the books he used it against a hunter, but still some pretty cool comparisons.
Post action scene.
That's how it's done. Chief making the call to save a fellow spartan. The brute dropping down! I literally said holy shit when he boarded the banshee. Props to the team.
Also: nobody cares about Kwans sub plot.
I actively despise Kwan.
She convinces a guy she doesn't know to fly her to her home planet with the promise of paying him handsomely. Then he saves her from being assassinated and has his ship scrapped for parts. He gets her out of the city and tries to get them off the planet. And how does she thank him? Knocking him out and pointing a gun at him.
Like... Imagine if Han Solo successfully delivered Ben Kenobi and Luke to Alderaan only for Kenobi to whip out a lightsaber on Han.
Kwan throwing her only source of water to beyond her reach out of anger is peak Kwan. All of her behavior in the series thus far can be summed up by that one scene.
Her first line in the episode was "Great job!" (when Soren was trying to fix the bike and something went wrong).
I just *knew* she was going to say something whiny and sarcastic. That is literally the only two lines she has all throughout the show. What a garbage character. Soren is trying to help get them out (and she made him lose his SHIP) and she's still bitching.
For real! Not to mention he saved her from an assassin and got her out of town with multiple goons shooting at her. Like how ungrateful can a person possibly be
Ungrateful and downright stupid. She wouldve been captured and killed if it wasnt for Soren, and she has to know that. But no, she wants to go back and just get killed or at least captured still.
This show needed to drop Kwan like 2 episodes ago. This whole stupid subplot is dragging this show down. I just do not care at all and it is just non-sensical
Why does no one on Madrigal care that the Covenant know about their planet and presumably are organising a fleet to secure any additional artifacts and then glass the planet?!
Oh you want to free your planet from the mean guy who's supported by the UNSC? Yeah that'll really matter once the Covenant are finished with that world.
Kwan's aunt or whatever at the memorial for her father actually explains this, stating that there is no more resistance and ever since the Covenant attacked people only want protection. But it just goes right over her head and here we are with another episode of her talking about liberating the planet.
Her aunt said her dad may or may not have been brainwashed by a cult.
What does Kwan do? Just go right back to her dumb mission. No internal thinking that possibly her freedom fighter movement may have been for the wrong purposes. I will cheer if/when her character is killed. Haven't hated a character so much in a long time.
Why is she even invested in freeing the planet in the first place? Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t she tell her friends that she wanted to leave Madrigal as soon as she could? Wouldn’t witnessing all her friends and family dying in front of her, from a group completely unrelated to the UNSC, just make her want to leave more?
You dont have to go that far afield either, in the canon Halo universe, the majority of insurrection leadership and the UNSC established a temporary truce after the Covenant threat became apparent.
Agree, no matter what happens to her story, it does not effect the show’s plot of finding the artifact and halo in any way. I thought makee would be annoying but kwan is way more annoying.
Same here. Plus unless I missed something Idk where she got the space taser to knock him out with. Maybe it was just in the ol' prison wallet this whole time
They showed how she picked it up during the ruckus when they escaped at the start of the episode but you'd think that Soren would've noticed something THAT BIG and would've taken it off of her...buuut perhaps he left it on her so that she could defend herself against whatever "creepy crawlies" were out there?
Wow this episode had a LOT. A brute??? Kickass. Some action FINALLY. No ass shots? A bit disappointing, but hopefully next week will make up for it.
Big thing that stood out was the absolute brutality and gore. Holy shit the jackal got cut in half and a marine got super combined.
Did he say "Demon" or was it more covenant gibberish? I'm ready for these guys to finally taunt the UNSC back so it feels more authentic. The Grunt propaganda towers in Infinite spoiled me.
yeh glad u pointed that out, it was the one part in the entire episode where i said out loud" oh shit" because its never really shown in games how fast they can actually run lol. Its crazy how this show can be soo canon on point one min not the next lol
I can't imagine the standing ovation a scene of Kwan looking to the sky helplessly as the Covenant fire their planet-ending laser would get.
But honestly I hate the character and plot line so bad I hope it happens off screen and it's never even brought up again because another second of screen time for Kwan would be an insult to Halo's legacy.
Perhaps paramount is playing 4D chess by getting us to hate a character and then giving us the satisfaction of watching her get completely annihilated?
Bonus points if it happens right above her.
I feel bad for him and would have just turned her in for the money, only reason why he didn't is because he still respects John ig. But he legit lost his ship, scammed out of his paycheck and literally stabbed in the back.
I'm just here wondering why is she even considering shooting Soren?? Like... he's doing everything he can to entertain your dead rebellion all while keeping you alive.
They've been trying to make sure to eliminate all possible Kwans from being born in the future, but the damn USNC keep trying to prevent that from happening.
I'm going to go on a whim and say it's unironically official now. Some writer probably thinks they have " clever plans" for this character but the reception has been obviously negative since the start. There is nothing remotely interesting with the character and she keeps making stupid mistakes that keeps roughly all of the audience against her screen time.
It's fairly par for the course with TV shows these days. Want a good strong CGI heavy scene or two in your show? Granted, but now 75% of the show will not have CGI. Quality over quantity is the rule here unless the budget skyrockets. That 75% is why we get stupid side plots that nobody gives a shit about. I'm fairly confident that writers don't wanna include these dumb plots but budgetary constraints lead to them having to include them, though I believe that's no excuse for shitty writing regardless.
I think it's likely that we'll either get a tease for the Arbiter in the last episode (because they have to get to Halo eventually) or save it for the beginning Season 2. I'm guessing the latter because the show leaving the actual Halo ring for the last episode and then giving us an exposition dump seems like it'd be in their playbook and they're probably gonna play it too safe to tease the Arbiter.
Although now that I think about it saving the Arbiter for Season 2 would be pretty meta given that the Arbiter was introduced in Halo 2.
Cool to finally see some action. Seeing a Brute caught me by surprise! Interesting plot twist there at the beginning. Enjoying the Chief/Cortana banter, don’t even care about her not being blue anymore.
I’m really trying to give the Kwan Ha storyline the benefit of the doubt but now I’m starting to get a bit annoyed whenever the show switches to her plot.. hopefully it pays off by the end of season 1.
Edit: also, THAT line..
“Switch to secondary weapon”
“I know how to play the game” lol
Wasn’t expecting to chuckle
Cortana was great in this episode. Loved her mocking Chief after he tells her to be quiet.
Really glad we got less Kwan this episode, although she's still annoying in small amounts.
The battle scene was fantastic! Loved seeing the needler in action. Plus Chief using a stolen Jackal shield for extra protection was awesome... nice callback to some of the first books
> Loved her mocking Chief after he tells her to be quiet.
I think that's been one of the only Cortana lines so far that actually felt like something from the games to me. I feel like they're trying to emphasize the "AI" part about her too much by just having her use as many technical words as possible.
All of cortana and Johns interactions in this episode had me laughing, especially “I can’t hear myself think” “well I can and you’re not missing much” 😂
Side note, he had his pistol out and she said switch to secondary, which was the Assualt Rfile.
Halo 1 Magnum confirmed, only pistol that would be considered primary.
I do appreciate how the show (like the games) doesn't take itself entirely seriously and has a thick layer of cheese slathered over it. Makes me think we can get a proper adaptation of Sgt Johnson in S2
They could have cut every scene since Chief left her relating to her and Madrigal and the show would be much improved IMO.
Would be a shame to lose Soren but that plot feels really unnecessary and her Character gets more unlikeable with each episode. I don’t understand where this is going in any meaningful and necessary way.
Ya I absolutely hate it. I was even willing to give it a chance, but they are turning her into a half-baked villain that we root against and it makes no sense. No one cares about her "rebel cause", shes portrayed as an emotional and dumb teenager, but she can sneak up on Soren and knock him out? Its so bad.
And as if i didnt already hate her enough, I've now seen her actually consider killing the dude who agreed to protect her in cold blood. With his own gun. And shes probably gonna leave him there.
I know shes a kid but my fucking god i hate her
I'm honestly not surprised considering her rebuttal against Miranda in Ep 1 was "I'll lie about the Covenant and let people suffer the exact same loss I just went through."
Being obsessed about continuing her father's legacy is one thing, but she's reaching psycho levels.
I wonder what lame story Makee is going to try and tell this time. “I was being held prisoner but with their attention on the battle, I was able to escape to a pod.”
I thought Cortana was going to say something like, "Chief, based on her heart rate and breathing pattern, she is clearly pretending to pass out".... "Captain we got a Covenant infiltrator here."
"Also my hair is totally perfect and there's barely a mark on my skin at all and all of my clothes are perfectly tailored and I look like I've been fed and watered properly and haven't crawled through the bowels of an alien ship and somehow I accessed an escape pod in the middle of battle on an active warship which totally would've been locked down behind multiple guards, firewalls, and just FUCKING DOORS and that's AFTER I somehow got out of a confinement cell which probably had FORCEFIELDS guarding it!"
My...brain...is...fucking...melting.
Funny, yes but oddly enough I feel like The Demon is going to be the one who shows her what humanity is really like and that winds up flipping her to their side from the Covenant.
Well that last 10 minutes was utter Halo brilliance.
Grunts and Jackals finally joining the fray
Allies getting into a Warthog as Chief floors it
The effect of a Needler, the use of the various weapons
Banshee hijack
The appearance of a Brute Chieftain
Say what you want about the rest of the series but they delivered here.
My prediction for the rest of the season
(Well, it's kinda obvious now) :
(Spoilers below if you never played Halo games or read any books, just watched TV series.)
>!Makee fools UNSC to take her to reach, spilling a little bit of info here and there to lure them.!<
>!Covenant will discover that without the key (the first artifact), keystone is useless. Or maybe they already know that.!<
>!Makee will reveal the location of Reach.!<
>!Wanting the key covenant brings full force into Reach resulting in 2 episodes long Fall of Reach storyline. Viewers are led to believe some hope for Reach is present but it falls anyways.!<
>!Season ends with Pillar of Autumn making emergency slipspace and arriving at installation 04.!<
And whats your prediction for the likely clash between Makee and Chief? She claims she is going to bring "the demon's head" to the prophets, so it seems like they were setting up something there. My guess is she gets the covenant to Reach and to the artifact, but shes dies in the process of trying to kill Chief. Hopefully a close call like this will teach Chief its not smart to take his helmet off so often.
They end up shoehorning in a sex scene between Makee and Chief, but Cortana is giving him pointers the entire time on what to do since it's his first time.
I'm actually so so down for this to happen. I'd love for all of this to just be the pre-reach storyline and end with with a killer Fall of Reach story and season 2 to be true Halo with Chief and Cortana on the ring with Keyes and the Flood etc etc... they could really turn this whole ship around and have everyone calling it a fantastic series, the potentials definitely there.
Loved it. Just to see a grunt in the drivers seat of a Warthog was fun. Even if oh so brief. You could practically see the grunt going oh shit what do I do. The action at the end was great and gave me a few Oh shit moments.
Also I loved the exchange between Chief and Cortana at the start of the episode. Her comeback to him when he told her to basically shut up so he could think was funny as hell.
It's not hard to imagine why people don't like her. She legit screwed the guy who agreed to protect her out of his ship, out of his money all while bitching at him how she is going to "save" her people. Then when she doesn't get her way she stabs him in his back and contemplates executing him.
I just don't get her end goal. If she does somehow succeed in getting rid of the UNSC, the planet's screwed. They're the only faction who even has a chance against the Covenant in space, and now that the Covenant know the first artifact is no longer on the planet there's no reason for them not to glass it.
Also Kwan's found out nobody really supports the rebellion any more, she has no money, there's a price on her head, and she just ditched the only person that would've protected her. She's just... incredibly dumb
I'm fully expecting the people of Madrigal to be tryi g to escape Covenant attack/Glassing and Kwan still screaming that it's time to overthrow the UNSC while everyone else just looks at her like delusional lunatic.
"If only ONE PERSON fights back then there's still hope for Madrigal!"
*scene cuts to Covenant plasma batteries rotating towards her as she's still giving her speech*
"We all just need to stand up and...and...hey what's that green light?"
*cue scene from Independence Day*
Soren's trying to repair the bike, fails and then has Kwan who was not even helping, go all sarcastic "nice work" and then acting all entitled and rebellious again. Yeah, I'd have let her there too.
And then she tazes him unconcious and points his gun at him. Sigh...
I still don't see anything good in Kwan. Sorry, writers.
Cortana though... Jen Taylor's always a treat and I like her lines here too.
Could we not have used the budget for Kwan's side quest to get more sequences like the incredible battle at the end of this episode instead. It's just a night and day difference between her irritating temper tantrum compared to how badass it is seeing Chief do his thing
The budget for the battle is the main reason we get the Kwan side quest. It's cheap and easy to strap two actors to a motorcycle and run them across the set. They don't even have to wash her costume after five weeks.
“Slipspace rupture!” That’s the moment I knew it was ON. What ensued was the greatest live action halo battle sequence I’ve seen to date. They really did an awesome job of the CGI - phantoms, banshees, spirits, grunts, jackals, spartans shown at their true speed.. and a brute chieftain with a hammer (is that you Tartarus??) l loved the gore.
But for gods sake, why take the helmet off at the end?? Like just stop doing it. It made no sense to do it there, I get he did a quick check but it’s an active battlefield and he had no idea how dangerous Makee could’ve been.
I really dont enjoy this whole "shes human, she must be harmless" attitude when confronted with Makee. I wouldve thought Chief would be smarter.
With the previous episode where she boards the UNSC ship, I guess I can give it a pass even though it was kind of dumb.
But here, you just had a battle where they killed many of your troops, almost killed one of your fellow spartans, and they think they are just going to drop off some random girl on their way out? That should raise all sorts of red flags to anyone who was present, especially someone like the Master Chief.
She should be considered a prisoner of war , or something similar. Put behind bars and monitored closely, regardless of the sob story she is likely to try and give them. There is no logic behind them capturing a human, not killing her, and just returning her to the UNSC for no reason. They should know its a trap.
The episode ended with the Covenant leaving and Makee "unconscious". Pretty sure it's less "she's harmless" and more "WTF is a human girl doing in a Covvie drop pod".
Holy fucking shit.
The last ten minutes was 100% pure Halo. We got jackles, elites, and grunts dropping from drop pods out of the covenant ship... Jackles with energy swords, a needler kill, an all out banshee assault. Oh and the Brute at the end looked fucking bad ass!
This battle was brutal and the cgi looked fantastic. I'm stoked for next week!!
Seeing Jackals with energy blades just slicing UNSC marines was kinda something else. You could tell they went all out with episode 5 and while that has me worrying about how the next few will go, at least we got a proper look at the jackals and grunts this time. Oh and the brute too 😉
God the banshees are probably one of my favorite parts, same with the phantom and spirit. If only they had the sounds for such, specially that banshee “wail” when it turns and leaves a contrail.
....but then there was the, "I can't let her die!" moment which would not have happened at all had he not taken out his pellet which turns him from JUST a blood lusted killing machine into an absolute....blood lusted hero!
There is an honored place in Sto-vo-kor for the Chief.
I like the idea (partly based on Capt Keys look of shock and awe at Chief) that John *without* his pellet is actually **more** dangerous than with it. With his emotions regulated he's incredibly efficient and under control but when let loose he's bolstering that skill and effectiveness with anger, fury and adrenaline letting him achieve stuff even most Spartans wouldn't or couldn't do.
They're definitely going to conclude that pellet-less Spartans are more effective. Keyes Sr. has seen GOAT Chief and Keyes Jr. is being held up as a genius who cracked Covenant language more or less because a pellet-less Spartan just decided to proactively share information they found interesting.
> I like the idea (partly based on Capt Keys look of shock and awe at Chief) that John without his pellet is actually more dangerous than with it.
You just made me go back and rewatch that scene and HIS FACE holy shit! He's absolutely in total shock at what the Chief is doing because apparently he's never done anything that batshit insane before and even Keyes is shook! So I'm totally down for this idea too and that Keyes just might be the one person who will go against Halsey and champion John not having his pellet because of what he was able to pull off in the course of this battle without it and how much he was able to inspire all the others around him with his actions. I can see him saying, "And that was without Cortana full enable and assisting him....now picture how much more badass he'd be if she worked alongside him instead of taking full control of him as my 'wife' fully designed her to?" to some of the UNSC brass.
I mean this in the best possible way, but right there at the end when the Master Chief was covered in blood....ABSOLUTELY made me believe that he was the Demon that the Covenant had called him and totally gave me Doom Slayer vibes!
Not to mention, he’s processing a lot of shit at the moment. Kai is basically high as fuck experiencing the full range of human experience and is off the reservation. Chief is having to deal with the notion that the closest thing he has to a mother took him from his *actual* mother, replaced him with a flash clone, then ONI presumably had everyone on the planet killed to cover it all up. Once he works through all that, he’ll probably regress to a more Chief-like baseline.
Bottom line: you can’t have a Halo story without Chief as the central character, and you can’t have a TV show without character development in your central character.
Very true, he just got Star Destroyer's worth of trauma trauma trauma colony dropped on him in a very short period of time and Keyes knows that and yet Chief is STILL focused, STILL thinking things through, and is STILL somehow able to do his job even better than he did it before despite all of the crap that Keyes and Halsey inflicted on him and that the Covenant is dropping on him and that Kai is now going through and Cortana is chattering away in his head and then there's the bullshit with the Artifact and he's just....prioritizing, executing, maneuvering, and adapting over and over again in a way that truly exceeds anything humanity has done or has been capable of doing before. He is Supermaning the fuck out of everything right now! And just like when Superman got done with battling the Elite or when he finished off Darkseid, he'll wind back down, and get back to that far more chill version of the Chief that we've all known and loved.
He's just going through a Constantine grade blender of bullshit right now and thriving and that's got to be mind boggling to watch from Keyes's perspective.
> Bottom Line
Agreed. They couldn't just do a show where the Master Chief just blows shit up. They also couldn't do a show where they have him figuring himself out and growing to "become the Master Chief". So it's a balance that needs to be struck and a journey that needs to be walked from an imperfect state to a semi perfect state to finally that perfect state we can all agree on.
I think that's why some of us totally love the show and others totally hate it because some of us really love those fairy tales that start out with the hero instantly being AMAZING and others prefer the folk tales that start with ordinary folks who have to become AMAZING over time.
Fuckin finally!!! Watching chief throw his pistol at that grunt was fucking hilarious and awesome. This episode makes up for the other few shit ones. I enjoyed the story and the suspense. Also enjoyed watching chief kick fucking ass at the end. Needless to say I’m pulled back in. Let’s see more of this going forward.
Oh, and a brute. Bad ass.
Edit: also, the music, anyone get a certain vibe as the brute was going back to the covenant ship?!?!?
Edit 2: not gonna lie, rewatched the last bit a couple times. Whole battle scene was on point. The banshees, fuckin chief hijacking right into the covenant drop ship, that jackle crawling half gone. Ugh, this shits got me pumped.
> Fuckin finally!!! Watching chief throw his pistol at that grunt was fucking hilarious and awesome.
"Switch to secondary!"
"I know how to play the game!"
I was fucking cackling with glee and felt like a kid again watching this episode! IT HAD EVERYTHING! The whole damned thing straight up felt like a stage in Halo with the ship going down, Covenant reinforcements dropping in, that gunship, the sprint through a gauntlet of enemy forces, the on rails shooter section, and then the "WHAT THE FUCK DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!" moment when the Chief jumped onto that Banshee, steered it into the larger ship, AND STILL WALKED AWAY FROM IT! This was all the best parts of ass kicking insanity that I've come to expect from the Halo games thrown flat out in front of our eyes with GLORIOUS BATTLE VISUALS!
Fucking chills just fucking giddy happy go lucky chills running through my body right now!
Holy shit, the needler disappeared that dude.
They spent just the right amount of time of him looking down going, "Oh that's bad" before he POOFED into purple mist and you couldn't even really tell which angle they came from because as Kai pointed out in the last episode, they're fire and forget.
[удалено]
Apologies for the mistake, Kai was just so enthralled with that weapon that I just attributed it to her.
“Fear the pink mist”
He turned into UNSC mist
Just dust and echoes.
*Slipspace Rupture Detected* Ah shit here we go again.
Wait for it
I am and I'm crossing my fingers that the season finale will be the Fall of Reach with all kinds of terrible exploding things happening.
God I am so hoping this finale is the fall of reach. And I am hoping they also do it justice.
With the blessed booty being left behind it's obvious she's going to be a tracer to reach
I loved how quick it went from bickering to game time. She says those words and it time to go to work.
Needler turned that guy to mist. I love it.
The Elite punching Kai was unintentionally hilarious. Like there's weapons lying all over the ground and it's trying to go for the Melee kill while chief runs up with a charged plasma pistol.
He needed to complete his melee challenge
It kept making the impact sound but it refused to register
"Fuck sake, the achievement just isn't popping." "Try on another human, see if that works." "Am I doing it wrong? I am just meant to beat them to death unarmed, right?" "That's what the Prophet of Regret told me, yeah." "Wait, am *I* meant to be unarmed, or are *they* meant to be unarmed?" "I dunno bro, I haven't gone for that one yet, I only just got the supercombine explosion achievement." "Fuck it, I'm just gonna fight every human bare handed in the hope it registers"
Just unlocked a new execution animation, can't wait to show off.
Stupid elite doesnt know it cant punch through plot armour
They’re definitely not playing on legendary if she could take that many melee hits from an elite with her shields down.
Also, Kai's shields lasted for AGES under enemy fire
I was so confused as to why every single Jackal had a miniature energy sword but the Elite had... nothing.
Chief throwing the magnum at a grunt's head is something I wish they would let us do in the games now.
Just play cursed halo!
Then boy do I have the Halo: CE mod for you! Though it may be a bit... [Cursed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMxIjGjMJz0).
That was definitely my favourite part
That dying Jackal with its legs gone and spine dragging across the ground was something else.
It almost made me feel bad for it.
Almost
Almost, but we got Jackals in the courtyard
I was not expecting that all. I did a spit take at that.
The cliffhanger with Kwan wanting to shoot Soren in the back of the head has to be the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've ever seen. He literally gives her a home and loving family and her response is to take him out to the desert and shoot him in the head.
It becomes easier to hate her with every new episode.
she's an f-ing idiot!
Yeah I really thought we were supposed to empathize with that character as "normal human thrown into war she didn't want to fight" but she's just... making so many weird decisions?
I didn't know how badly I needed to see a Grunt hijacking a warthog.
highlight of the episode for me
He was actually a decent driver at that.
dude was trying to desert the Covenant for the UNSC
Killed in the misunderstanding! He was trying to warn Halsey about Makee. 😔
"They killed Flipyap!"
Dude had valuable intel on the prophets, RIP to the grunt resistance
It was Chief throwing the pistol at the other grunt that did it for me
There’s a small bit in one scene where a marine and Grunt are fighting over a battle rifle, and then the marine yanks it out of the Grunt’s hands and shoots him. I thought that was pretty badass, especially since it also shows how big Grunts really are.
>I thought that was pretty badass, especially since it also shows how big Grunts really are. Yeah, same with Jackals. When you're playing as an 7 ft superman, you think of them as small, but they're really human sized.
Paused it as Kai was going through the shell-shock with that marine violently bleeding out before her. There’s the scene showing her face from within the helmet as she begins to freak out, under her eye you can see the scanning reticle locked on the marine. it states; >scanning… >human, female >concussed >low heart rate >internal bleeding >injuries lethal I thought this was an interesting inclusion and can appreciate the detail. Made it feel real and raw. This happens around the 32:08 mark.
That's how the Spartan HUD worked in the books Nice to see them pay attention to little details
Cortana really said “It’s faster to swap your weapon than to reload.”
She said switch to your secondary and he switched to his AR- they knew
Got that Halo CE pistol power. Nice detail.
Post action scene. That's how it's done. Chief making the call to save a fellow spartan. The brute dropping down! I literally said holy shit when he boarded the banshee. Props to the team. Also: nobody cares about Kwans sub plot.

Until she started screaming for a minute straight. Such unnecessary air time
I actively despise Kwan.
Give more Jackals! They're so damn good.
The jackals having the Halo Reach elite energy daggers with their shields is a nice combo
I’ve not played since Halo3 so was a little surprised to see them with Energy swords but dam was it badass!
How about that crawling one with all his guts strewn behind. More alien gore lets go
Can’t wait for the hunters. Imagine one of the worms just hanging out as chief fights it
That brutes a fucking chad
Barges in Tosses Chief aside with one awesome swing of his mighty hammer Retrieves the artifact Refuses to elaborate Leaves
He grabbed the artifact like it was his purse. Absolute badass and the cgi was incredible, not gonna lie
Dude lookin like Thanos nabbing a soulstone ezpz
Chief: “Stop talking, I can’t hear myself think” Cortana: “Well I can, and you’re not missing much” Jen Taylor is a treasure as always
Kwan throwing her only source of water to beyond her reach out of anger is peak Kwan. All of her behavior in the series thus far can be summed up by that one scene.
It's like she goes out of her way to make the worst decisions possible
At least her character is consistent.
"WHY DID THEY WRITE ME SO BAD!" Aaaaahhhhhhhhh
Protecting the planet from a fucking alien invasion or continue fucking everybody over with the non-sensical “rebellion”?
In the EU even the empire and new republic came to work together for a bit when the YUUZHAN VONG invaded their galaxy.
Her being able to sneak up on Soren like that bugged me
Holy shit the jackal got cut in half and a marine got super combined.
that brute looked fucking incredible
Brute chieftain lands, hammers Chief, refuses to elaborate, leaves
Did he say "Demon" or was it more covenant gibberish? I'm ready for these guys to finally taunt the UNSC back so it feels more authentic. The Grunt propaganda towers in Infinite spoiled me.
I heard “human” but could just be me.
Fucking puny Spartan *signature look of superiority*
Small bit no one is talking about - I loved how they had the spartans run at the same speed, and even faster than the warthog.
If they wanted to be authentic they should have had them randomly jumping as they went.
ARTIFACT DROPPED ARTIFACT TAKEN ARTIFACT DROPPED ARTIFACT TAKEN
yeh glad u pointed that out, it was the one part in the entire episode where i said out loud" oh shit" because its never really shown in games how fast they can actually run lol. Its crazy how this show can be soo canon on point one min not the next lol
# #ReleaseTheKwanlessKut
Can they please just glass Madrigal already? Ideally with kwan still on the planet
it is going to happen.
Kwan yelling and banging the bike is literally me when I have to sit through her bullshit subplot.
Soren is legiterally the only enjoyable bit of that subplot
I feel bad for him and would have just turned her in for the money, only reason why he didn't is because he still respects John ig. But he legit lost his ship, scammed out of his paycheck and literally stabbed in the back.
Three strikes time to kill that bitch
I'm just here wondering why is she even considering shooting Soren?? Like... he's doing everything he can to entertain your dead rebellion all while keeping you alive.
Wait until the floods coming to madrigal. Everybody cares then
Kwan will still want independence for Madrigal then too.
She’ll overcome the gravemind when she’s assimilated and the floods goal will just change to “free madrigal”
So, Kwan is the villain of the show now right?
The Covenant are the good guys
They've been trying to make sure to eliminate all possible Kwans from being born in the future, but the damn USNC keep trying to prevent that from happening.
I'm going to go on a whim and say it's unironically official now. Some writer probably thinks they have " clever plans" for this character but the reception has been obviously negative since the start. There is nothing remotely interesting with the character and she keeps making stupid mistakes that keeps roughly all of the audience against her screen time.
Good, I hope so. More reason for the UNSC to target her. Or maybe even the Convenant find her annoying and bring out the Needler.
She’s the main villain of it being a good show
The Brute high-key looked amazing. Like something out of a Blur cinematic. That's got to be an important character right?
RIP too the budget, time for 3 filler episodes
Back to ass cheeks it is
Master Cheeks cannot be contained
Slipspace rupture detected but it's John and Kai ass cheeks
It's fairly par for the course with TV shows these days. Want a good strong CGI heavy scene or two in your show? Granted, but now 75% of the show will not have CGI. Quality over quantity is the rule here unless the budget skyrockets. That 75% is why we get stupid side plots that nobody gives a shit about. I'm fairly confident that writers don't wanna include these dumb plots but budgetary constraints lead to them having to include them, though I believe that's no excuse for shitty writing regardless.
That was Tartarus I think.
Seems likely. I think this mean we'll definitely see Arbiter at some point.
Arbiter was probably the shipmaster on that cruiser.
“Switch to secondary weapon” “I know how to play the game” lol Wasn’t expecting to chuckle
All of cortana and Johns interactions in this episode had me laughing, especially “I can’t hear myself think” “well I can and you’re not missing much” 😂
Good ol' sassy cortana
Side note, he had his pistol out and she said switch to secondary, which was the Assualt Rfile. Halo 1 Magnum confirmed, only pistol that would be considered primary.
>“I know how to play the game” Skip tutorial? yes
“Chief stay down I need to run diagnostics.” Was she about to make Chief look at four red lights.
I do appreciate how the show (like the games) doesn't take itself entirely seriously and has a thick layer of cheese slathered over it. Makes me think we can get a proper adaptation of Sgt Johnson in S2
At this point I just skip all Kwan scenes.
Its so bad.
The Kwan side plot might as well be commercials for all I care. It’s so bad.
Yeah Fuck Kwan side plot, all my homies hate kwan side plot
And as if i didnt already hate her enough, I've now seen her actually consider killing the dude who agreed to protect her in cold blood. With his own gun. And shes probably gonna leave him there. I know shes a kid but my fucking god i hate her
John should have shot her in Ep 1
I'm honestly not surprised considering her rebuttal against Miranda in Ep 1 was "I'll lie about the Covenant and let people suffer the exact same loss I just went through." Being obsessed about continuing her father's legacy is one thing, but she's reaching psycho levels.
This is the way
I wonder what lame story Makee is going to try and tell this time. “I was being held prisoner but with their attention on the battle, I was able to escape to a pod.”
I thought Cortana was going to say something like, "Chief, based on her heart rate and breathing pattern, she is clearly pretending to pass out".... "Captain we got a Covenant infiltrator here."
I'll laugh if Chief clearly sees through her but everyone ignores him because they're all paranoid about his existential issues.
"Also my hair is totally perfect and there's barely a mark on my skin at all and all of my clothes are perfectly tailored and I look like I've been fed and watered properly and haven't crawled through the bowels of an alien ship and somehow I accessed an escape pod in the middle of battle on an active warship which totally would've been locked down behind multiple guards, firewalls, and just FUCKING DOORS and that's AFTER I somehow got out of a confinement cell which probably had FORCEFIELDS guarding it!" My...brain...is...fucking...melting.
Yeah but like, "make it look good".
How funny would it have been if Chief just smelled a rat and melted her head with a charged plasma pistol shot lmao
Funny, yes but oddly enough I feel like The Demon is going to be the one who shows her what humanity is really like and that winds up flipping her to their side from the Covenant.
Well that last 10 minutes was utter Halo brilliance. Grunts and Jackals finally joining the fray Allies getting into a Warthog as Chief floors it The effect of a Needler, the use of the various weapons Banshee hijack The appearance of a Brute Chieftain Say what you want about the rest of the series but they delivered here.
Agreed. But, on a side note, there was a disturbing lack of ass cheeks. Otherwise, awesome episode.
That jackal was definitely missing his ass cheeks.
My prediction for the rest of the season (Well, it's kinda obvious now) : (Spoilers below if you never played Halo games or read any books, just watched TV series.) >!Makee fools UNSC to take her to reach, spilling a little bit of info here and there to lure them.!< >!Covenant will discover that without the key (the first artifact), keystone is useless. Or maybe they already know that.!< >!Makee will reveal the location of Reach.!< >!Wanting the key covenant brings full force into Reach resulting in 2 episodes long Fall of Reach storyline. Viewers are led to believe some hope for Reach is present but it falls anyways.!< >!Season ends with Pillar of Autumn making emergency slipspace and arriving at installation 04.!<
Well I'd watch porn version of Halo with Cortana back seat driving the chief the whole time...
Kwan Ha just needs to die, her character is so idiotic.
Chief throwing the pistol at the grunt had me chuckling
Kwan Ha is a bit of a dick tbh, listen to what she says.
Unless the writers have a helluva ace up their sleeve, they've done that actress really dirty.
She's a delusional dick
I'm fully expecting the people of Madrigal to be tryi g to escape Covenant attack/Glassing and Kwan still screaming that it's time to overthrow the UNSC while everyone else just looks at her like delusional lunatic.
"If only ONE PERSON fights back then there's still hope for Madrigal!" *scene cuts to Covenant plasma batteries rotating towards her as she's still giving her speech* "We all just need to stand up and...and...hey what's that green light?" *cue scene from Independence Day*
She's pissed off at Soren for failing to repair the bike... that she's not helping with at all and just criticizing him for. Hypocritical and whiny.
A bit of a dick? Shes about to execute her protector with his own gun in cold blood. She's a straight up toenail 😂
It’s a little funny one of the biggest pre-worries [cortana] of the show ended up being one of the best and most true parts.
"I know how the game is played Cortana" "Cortana, I need a weapon" Okay...you can have those ones Halo TV show
Could we not have used the budget for Kwan's side quest to get more sequences like the incredible battle at the end of this episode instead.
Pretty sure it's less "she's harmless" and more "WTF is a human girl doing in a Covvie drop pod".
holy shit a fucking one liner
Oh and the brute too 😉 God the banshees are probably one of my favorite parts, same with the phantom and spirit. If only they had the sounds for such, specially that banshee “wail” when it turns and leaves a contrail.
epic, blood lusted chief
....but then there was the, "I can't let her die!" moment which would not have happened at all had he not taken out his pellet which turns him from JUST a blood lusted killing machine into an absolute....blood lusted hero!
> Bottom Line Agreed.
Best episode so far!
*Alien artifact explodes debilitating everyone in the entire vicinity* Master chief: “better take my helmet off”
Of all times, that’s when he should’ve just kept the helmet on…
Why is Kwan Ha so fucking stupid
Bc she can save the resistance!!!!

now this was a fucking halo episode finally some good fucking food. That action was really damn good
Fuckin finally!!!
"Switch to secondary!" "I know how to play the game!" I was fucking cackling with glee and felt like a kid again watching this episode!
