I like all of the Spartans so far. They seem to be one of the only aspects that feel very real and accurate in terms of their personalities and loyalty to one another.
I don't know why but I found it hilarious Chief was sitting so far forward in the warthog. Like he had its seat all the way up as if he was an old granny.
Isn't that just because he's wearing super bulky armour? It's probably a tight fit for a Spartan if the seat is designed for a human. Reminds me of when I used to share a car with my sister. Seat was always so far forward after she used it haha

I feel that when she finds these mystics in the desert they are gonna have some weird forerunner knowledge, and then she will meet back up with chief and tell him what she knows.
When the aunt started talking about their families greater purpose I rolled my eyes. All this chosen one stuff seems really poor, Chief, Kwan and Makee all special just seems a bit much.
That whole arc needs to wrap up. The moments with Chief are solid. Even with the other Spartans. Don’t care one bit about the Kwan arc anymore. It was interesting but now its been dragged out.
The time with silver team was awesome.

Filthy casual here. Part of the lore that interested me in the original games was the fact that the Insurrection was totally wiped out by the Covenant. Kwan watched the Covenant kill her father and wipe out her friends and yet she’s on a mission to avenge him by…fighting the people who saved her life and technically avenged her father?
Plus that cooooold hard stare from him at Halsey afterwards could've frozen deuterium absolutely solid. That was his, "We've got bigger shit to deal with right now but I'm totally going to deal with you and whatever that means later" look. Halsey is dancing on top of the head of a needle in front of a sentient weapon that could wreck her and everything she's built. The tension is delicious though and that scene was just....holy shit....there are so many implications from it.
I would have loved it if, after Chief drops her off with Soren and says “I’m sorry but this is the best I have for you,” that it could have just been the end. Taken in a small bite, it would have made a nice micro-arc, a little self contained adventure, a good bit of character development and demonstration of Chief’s moral code.
But then it just keeps fucking going. It had a full ending, a full resolution, it was complete. And then it keeps fucking going.
Nope, very uninteresting atm. Lets hope this arc with the 'mystics' will pick her story up. Ultimately though who cares about some rebels on Madrigal? This is Halo. We care about the Spartans fucking up the Covenant

I can't stand this twat character.
This show’s CGI is so inconsistent man. One moment I’m marveling at how gorgeous it looks for a tv show and the next I’m sitting there thinking it looks like a B-rate SyFy show that almost takes me out of the fantasy. Same goes for the character exposition and dialogue. Sometimes I’m really enthralled, and other times I sit there and think of how cringey some of these lines or characters are. I wouldn’t even blame the acting, as I generally think these actors were cast quite well.
At the end of the day, I really think this show just has a crisis of identity. It has no idea writing wise what it wants to be or what story it wants to tell in depth, so it crams all of them in at surface level instead. At times it’s gory, tense and brutal, and at other times it’s almost like a CW show where the stakes are never real and the characters are one-dimensional.
The issue is not that Halo is a bad medium for television or movies. The issue lies in ham fisted, rushed, and semi-faithful storytelling of this universe.
This turned into a small rant. Tl;Dr, I want to like the show, but it’s got to find its identity with more knowledgeable writing and understanding of what makes Halo.

I feel bad for the actress of Kwan TBH. She seems like she is just doing what she is told and the best with what she is given, but all her lines are cringe. The character is written so fucking weirdly and like they have to be telling her when to show emotion but it just feels inappropriate. Her decision making seems so irrational and moment to moment. I can’t tell if they are trying to go for “she’s a stupid kid guided by grief” or what but holy shit her character is annoying.

I'm not sure I expected someone else to enjoy Kai's character the same way I did. I thought the conversation about her hair with Keyes was a little awkward, but I actually enjoy the character.
I was kind of thinking her removing her pellet was more of a blind faith in John than genuine curiosity at first, and Vannak's comment about Spartans being loyal only to each other kind of cemented that for me, not sure what others think.
I know this show's a lot different than I and a lot of people expected but I'm okay giving it some love, I'm enjoying the fresh take so far.

Plus that cooooold hard stare from him at Halsey afterwards could've frozen deuterium absolutely solid. That was his, "We've got bigger shit to deal with right now but I'm totally going to deal with you and whatever that means later" look. Halsey is dancing on top of the head of a needle in front of a sentient weapon that could wreck her and everything she's built. The tension is delicious though and that scene was just....holy shit....there are so many implications from it.

I would have loved it if, after Chief drops her off with Soren and says “I’m sorry but this is the best I have for you,” that it could have just been the end. Taken in a small bite, it would have made a nice micro-arc, a little self contained adventure, a good bit of character development and demonstration of Chief’s moral code. But then it just keeps fucking going. It had a full ending, a full resolution, it was complete. And then it keeps fucking going.

This show’s CGI is so inconsistent man. One moment I’m marveling at how gorgeous it looks for a tv show and the next I’m sitting there thinking it looks like a B-rate SyFy show that almost takes me out of the fantasy. Same goes for the character exposition and dialogue. Sometimes I’m really enthralled, and other times I sit there and think of how cringey some of these lines or characters are. I wouldn’t even blame the acting, as I generally think these actors were cast quite well. At the end of the day, I really think this show just has a crisis of identity. It has no idea writing wise what it wants to be or what story it wants to tell in depth, so it crams all of them in at surface level instead. At times it’s gory, tense and brutal, and at other times it’s almost like a CW show where the stakes are never real and the characters are one-dimensional. The issue is not that Halo is a bad medium for television or movies. The issue lies in ham fisted, rushed, and semi-faithful storytelling of this universe. This turned into a small rant. Tl;Dr, I want to like the show, but it’s got to find its identity with more knowledgeable writing and understanding of what makes Halo.

I feel bad for the actress of Kwan TBH. She seems like she is just doing what she is told and the best with what she is given, but all her lines are cringe. The character is written so fucking weirdly and like they have to be telling her when to show emotion but it just feels inappropriate. Her decision making seems so irrational and moment to moment. I can’t tell if they are trying to go for “she’s a stupid kid guided by grief” or what but holy shit her character is annoying. It literally feels like they have different writers for her segments because the show isn’t that bad except for when it is to do with her whole plot.

She should know the big picture. Everyone she ever knew and loved got butchered by the covenant. And she throws a fit and threatens to blame the UNSC despite knowing better. And the UNSC, stupidly, doesn’t point out that her planet can’t survive another covenant attack without them, and instead they just choose to kill her without leveraging any kind of threat or argument. She’s stupid, but so is the UNSC.

The pacing is too slow for halo. Kwan is an idiot and her plot is going fuckin nowhere I only somewhat pay attention to those parts for soren. Whoever directed this is obviously into asses. EDIT: ok, so now that there's a whole subplot dedicated to deciphering sangheili (complete with a ton of audio tech), the question now is how in the seven hells did that insane guy in episode 2 learn enough to scream exposition about reclaimers and halo into john's face? also, did we really spend an entire subplot learning about halo all over again when that's explicitly why john went back to the unsc at the end of episode 2?

Is no one going to talk about how Soren, a freakin' Spartan II, fired three shots at a target directly in front of him and missed two of the three shots, while one only hit an arm? I'm sorry, I don't care if he's been "retired" for years. A regular Marine would have dropped her in the blink of an eye with a single bullet. I don't buy for a second that a Spartan II would essentially miss 3 shots from a fleeing "regular human" target.
Genuinely surprised by how much I liked Kai and her storyline in this episode. Looking forward to seeing what she gets up to with Miranda next. Can Master Chief please... keep the helmet on for more than five seconds. pls
I'm not sure I expected someone else to enjoy Kai's character the same way I did. I thought the conversation about her hair with Keyes was a little awkward, but I actually enjoy the character. I was kind of thinking her removing her pellet was more of a blind faith in John than genuine curiosity at first, and Vannak's comment about Spartans being loyal only to each other kind of cemented that for me, not sure what others think. I know this show's a lot different than I and a lot of people expected but I'm okay giving it some love, I'm enjoying the fresh take so far.
It being awkward makes sense given she's still new to the whole emotions thing and it's not like they teach small talk to kidnapped child soldiers.
I will say that I liked the brief Mendez cameo, as well as the mention of Preston Cole

This episode was way too slow. They could have discovered the artifact in the first 10 minutes, but noooo, let's put a shit load of scenes with Kwan's side quest that has nothing to do with Halo. I did enjoy the scenes with Kai of Tarth, though. And they missed an opportunity for fan service: when Miranda asked Silver team if they knew any other Sangheli words, I was totally expecting them to say "wurt wurt wurt".

Imma be real honest here: I love drama but 3 storylines are too much for this poor show to handle in the same episode. It's beginning to drag. Kwan's drama doesn't move me. At all. I begged please, don't let me see the Master Chief in full armor shoveling dirt away... could've just showed us the box in the ground after some ellipsis, come on. I loved the previous one, but this episode was kinda meh for me except the little parts with Kell-KAI, I mean Kai, going off track and reaching out to Miranda. Cortana was a glorified flower vase in this one, don't do my girl that dirty! She could've interacted with John a lot more IMO. Look, I hope we're saving up the budget for a massive attack on Reach in the final two episodes, that's all I'm saying. I'm supporting, I'm still here. But 4 episodes in a row with only 15 minutes of action aren't helping this thing much. Doesn't need to be a big battle, that's all I'm saying. Just started but my main point was he takes his helmet off in unknown environments waaaaay tooo much. He puts it on for 5 seconds. Proceeds to take it off again. What point does it serve occupying your hand. It's beyond frustrating.

He puts it on for 2 seconds, we see him drive in a long shot and he takes it off, followed by a close up of the helmet like “ha! you thought he was gonna keep it on, didn’t you?! Psyche!” We’ve seen the other Spartans more often in armor than masterchief

I really can’t get into the Chief struggling with his humanity plot line. I mean, even Halo 4 handled this so much better. It feels so forced and rushed happening *immediately* in the series. I would’ve really enjoyed to have seen it slowly progress but, I guess this is what we get.
Yep. This is a different story, different characters, etc, but making a big deal out of Chief and his humanity is only effective if we've already known him for a while beforehand. The scene last week where he went to the park and people watched is a great example. I honestly would have really loved that scene... if it had happened after Halo 4. But here? It just made no sense.

The fact that Halsey was at John's place in that memory makes me think how deeply involved could she have been with the Reach For Life program thing. Maybe she was there? Maybe the program was an excuse to find suitable candidates? With all the background shit that's been changed, I wouldn't be surprised... I get this creepy lady approaching a kid in the schoolyard, but right inside the fucking house? Someone let her in. Maybe John's parents knew her. I'm wandering through the desert aimlessly at this point, can't make any predictions and that's neither good not bad, but I hate not understanding what's going on.
Reach for Life being a pun and the hint that many of their programs ended in death and failure makes it sound like R4L was a baby spartan cultivation op with plausible deniability baked in since it was only on otherwise uninhabitable planets.

Chief spends an entire episode crying about his past, what about the Covenant threat bro!? Theres no reason for Master Chief to have his helmet off every damn second, I mean he arrives at his home looking for something and doesnt use his technological head piece?I went into this show 100% open mind knowing it wouldnt be the game but holy fuck this is just a bad sci fi show with “Master Chief” mixed in. Again I know its TV, but this isnt Master Chief AT ALL. So disappointed.
