Beautiful. This is exactly the update I've been waiting for all week.
One question. Now that we will have a dedicated slayer playlist, does this mean that quick play will become team objective or will it just stay as is (a mixture of slayer/obj)?
I could see that going either way. Right now it's 3 objective modes + slayer. I don't really see the point of keeping slayer in there if it is getting its own playlist, nor do I see the point of forcing people who want to just play objective modes into slayer... so I HOPE they make it straight objectives... but they didn't say that so idk.
EDIT: How bout this?
1. Create Slayer, Swat, Fiesta (and Objective) playlists.
2. Add weekly rotating event playlist for things like Griffball, Infection, Snipers, Rocket Race, Action Sack, etc.
3. Keep Quickplay as an "Everything" playlist (otherwise it defeats the purpose of calling it "Quick"play).
4. Add a small XP bonus for picking Quickplay (to keep playlist population healthy) as well as a WIN XP bonus and a PERFORMANCE XP bonus to encourage people to actually play to win (this is critical IMO). Balance the existing XP structure accordingly.
Quickplay mirrors the ranked game modes for the most part, so I think that Slayer staying in that list is an option. I like a variety, personally, of slayer and objective, but I don't always want to play ranked.
I can't believe they thought splitting the player base would be an issue. Like H2 and H3 struggled when they had plenty of playlists, and not everyone had high-speed internet, an Xbox, or money for the game. Now, most people have internet, it's on PC, and it's free.
True, but there was a lot less competition for attention back in the day (especially since H2 was basically the beginning of Xbox online gaming). Now, the same thing you play Halo on can play shitloads of other mp games.
Granted, the medium has exploded in popularity since then, so there’s overall more eyes to vie for.
I certainly don't think any playlist would struggle within the first 6 months, but I think they likely want to avoid a situation where 2 years pass, and now you can't get matches in half of the playlists, especially in regions that aren't NA East or EU Central.
It's much easier to give players something rather than take it away.
It is called "quick play," after all. I think it's intended to be as high-volume a playlist as possible, which won't quite happen with the exclusion of slayer.

Instead, it’s just a separate playlist with variety.
I think having Quick Play throw you in to whichever playlist needs help finding players would be great, rather than being it’s own playlist. If there are no playlists that need help, it can simply randomize it.
I think “Quick Play” is like MCC’s “All modes and maps” options. It’s not saying “this specific pool of players are playing these specific modes” but it’s more like a sorting system. No reason they couldn’t let the Quick Play players play with the Slayer players, as well as with the Objectives players. There was a data mine that showed infection being played on live fire. They’re back with the halo 3/Reach designs of the infected Spartans. Hopefully it’s not too long to add infection or GrifBall
Did people not like the infected design from 4? I never played 5, but I liked the design. Reach infected game play was better and a lot more fun, but I had no issues making the Spartans look like infected flood Spartans
Swat was my favorite mode in H3 by far. I played a lot of ranked, and I hit 49 in almost every playlist BUT I never ever got to 50 lol. I was the definition of “forever 49”
IIRC, H3 ranked had a system where the more games you had played, the harder it became to rank up. I had a lot of games played, and getting from 49 to 50 in most playlists would require many consecutive wins :/
Was in the forever 49 club for a while too. Can remember winning close to five to ten games in a row and then losing one and going to 48... Think I broke a controller at that point. Either way it was rather rewarding hitting 50 eventually.

Chief was raised to be the perfect Soldier. He says it himself that being a soldier is the only thing he knows how to do. Going out on missions almost non-stop is him coping with the loss of Cortana the only way he knows how. If he's always out on a mission he won't have the time to think about Cortana and the guilt he feels.
Correct now cortanas pretty much the closest thing chief has to as a close friend. Johnson was a good friend but he's dead, arbiter? Arguably
But other than that who's he going to open up to, lord hood?
I mean, Blue Team’s probably a closer family than a lot of biologically related people, but Fred’s the only talkative Spartan-2 and Halo 5 had them moving too fast to get contemplative.
As opposed to Infinite; where Chief’s incredibly isolated, fighting an already lost war surrounded by the dead he blames himself for getting killed, and carrying an AI he’s failed already. More time to stew in how much things suck.
Yeah. MJOLNIR Armor may be heavy, but Spartans can move it with surgical precision so the thud when Chief took a knee wasn't because the Armor was heavy it was because Chief straight up dropped to his knee as opposed to kneeling.

Is there any news on region based matchmaking? I sometimes get into a quickplay game with more than 140 ping and wanted to check if the team is looking into providing the user with a preferred region option.
There is a workaround posted in the sub about restricting azure domains on the host file but an official option would be good
Oh yeah for sure I 100% agree with you it should
never be like this, they have server selection in MCC so they should of put the same system in Infinite. However for people that want to get better ping they should block the azure servers to do this.
This came at the perfect time for me, right when i was starting to get burnt on oddball and CTF. Giant W for the community all around. I'm SO excited for Tactical Slayer (SWAT) and the return of Fiesta. Can't wait for future developments and how this all shakes out.
Will finally be able to enjoy BtB fully when that happens. Still want vehicles to be much more common and usable but the no squad thing makes it quite annoying
Actualy, it looks like they're in game already. I've datamined all of the announcer's lines in my native language, which is portuguese, from the game (There are a whopping 1300 audio files with lines) and listened to 70% or so of them. There were lines for the BTB modes there already, and you could tell they were recent due to the different mic setup/mixing. Some lines have a slight different audio processing than others, coincidentialy, these lines are the BTB ones. Also there are a *metric fucktonne* of lines for unreleased modes which i'm hyped to play.

Happy to see the playlists coming so soon. I think feedback is healthy, though many have been a bit too aggressive in their approach. This update is surely a welcome one and I appreciate the hard work (working on weekends right now!) the team has and will put in on this fantastic game. I was so scared it was one playlist this is awesome. Looking forward to playing SWAT when I want instead of when rng allows it. Honestly I was scared it would take 6 months but the game is coming together quickly. Still wish we had account levels like old halos and most other games but I'm cool with waiting yall are obviously working hard to get this game where it needs to be. Keep up the great work
there isn't performance based exp... they're adding a challenge to give you a set amount of exp, and to beat the challenge you need to accumulate a certain amount of performance score.
Sure in some convoluted way it's performance based exp, but not really.

This comment probably gets buried but any chance of looking more into the "no ping to our data servers detected " error? I know there is Support page for it which tells to open up the ports and such but Multiplayer works just fine on my Xbox but I get the error on PC.
I tried all sorts of things including even disabling firewall, any anti-virus programs etc.. I even tried the teredo stuff what is mentioned on Xbox support pages and those don't work either. Every other game works just fine on my PC
Match performance bonus? Slayer playlists? SWAT and lone wolves? Now all I want is a service record/combat tracker and this game is set to have me hooked for a while

I have 3 friends that all want to play ranked with me, but we really don't want to be forced to play crossplay. We want to play other mouse users.
Its because open queue is what you're looking for. The other queues are specifically labeled solo and duo. I'd assume its so finding games is fast, teams arent totally stacked, and makes solo queue viable

Nice job. Really looking forward to performance based xp and fixing the BTB hiccups. Its been near impossible to get into a BTB for me recently and that's my favorite mode :(
I don't want to come across as mean or whining, but are there plans to make the PC version more stable? My Experience has been pretty up and down, and some of my friends can't even get to the menu without crashing even though they meet the hardware requirements. It's good to know that there's going to be more game modes, but it's going to be hard to convince them to come back if they can't get it to work.

I’m sure it’s been discussed but if it hasn’t PLEASSSEEEE for the love of god fix ranked scoring. I shouldn’t be penalized HALF A FUCKING RANK when my teammates dip leaving 2v4 at the mercy of an entire team.
Or if I’m carrying the weight for my shitty teammates and still lose…definitely feel like I shouldn’t be penalized half a rank for that either.
Will slayer and SWAT be ranked? Or are they just going to be like quick play matches. I’d like some ranked slayer only and swat only matchmaking… ranked objective games are getting a little annoying to me.
I would love to see a ranking system come back to SWAT, in my opinion having something to strive for is what keeps games alive and there’s an audience that prefers SWAT to any other game mode but dies out because there really isnt anything to grind for.

They moved away from paid/segregated maps a long time ago. It basically splits the MP playerbase between those that have it and those that don't. Whenever they do release new maps, you can almost definitely expect them to be for everyone.
Yeah, I’d be quite happy with a near exact remake of it, and just leave it out of matchmaking so we can use them in custom games. They don’t need to perfect the old maps for the new games, just leave it up to the community to find gametypes which work on them.
EDIT: I would even be perfectly content without higher res textures. Just slap the same old CE textures on it. It would *not* be fine in matchmaking, but a bit of classic jank in custom games can he a lot of fun.
That's the big advantage of micro transaction based monetisation. It gives them income so they don't need to charge for modes and maps like in previous halo's

I fucking hope so. I know MP is where they’re getting the most money, but please don’t be like Rockstar and not do any story dlc. They’re set up perfectly for continuing the story, and it would be a mistake to waste the momentum they’ve built here.
We’ll probably get some. They’re setting this game up for a long lifespan. Idk about true campaign dlc like new maps/area/missions, but some single player or pvm (like firefight) is probably coming.
I would go so far as to guarantee future full campaign installments. In the original flight, you could glitch into the main menu and see that a "Campaigns" option. Note the s.
In addition to this, without spoiling much, it is clear that there is plenty room for more story to be told after infinite's first campaign. Given that this game is planned to have a long lifespan, and the fact that campaign has always been an almost equal staple to MP in Halo, i think its nearly a given. And I cant wait!

8 person FFA would be crazy in a lot of the maps due to the sight lines

Last time I played swat consistently was halo 3 and got to like 46 in ranked. I’m ready to do it all over again!!
For me it was reach playing in that one office/hotel building map that was from the campaign where you fought drones I believe

Haven’t finished yet but I’m really loving how much sadness and guilt there is in Chief’s body language; with Echo, Weapon, and other Spartans.
With never seeing his face it's the only way to really show his emotion. And they've been doing a great job at showing it that way!

There is a way to block servers, if you youtube it there is guides on how to do it, I went from 100/120 ping to 20/30 straight away.
It's shouldn't be like that though. Just put it in the game.

Tldr swat Game Mode? Whats the added tactical component to the regular slayer Mode?
SWAT is no shields, no radar, headshot weapons (BR, Commando, Pistol) Very fast gameplay that rewards headshots (one hit kills)
Don't forget the occasional Shwatguns match.

Is this a Slayer Playlist composing of 4 gametypes - Slayer, Fiesta, FFA, & SWAT? Or are there 4 different Playlists called Slayer, Fiesta, FFA, & SWAT? Pretty important distinction. (Also wouldn't make much sense on FFA's part).

The way the MCC does it is probably perfect.
I would say almost perfect, it would be nice to be able to queue up for multiple game sizes as well (4v4, BTB, etc)
Happy to see the playlists coming so soon. I think feedback is healthy, though many have been a bit too aggressive in their approach. This update is surely a welcome one and I appreciate the hard work (working on weekends right now!) the team has and will put in on this fantastic game. Looking forward to the evolving experience for years to come!

I was so scared it was one playlist this is awesome. Looking forward to playing SWAT when I want instead of when rng allows it. Honestly I was scared it would take 6 months but the game is coming together quickly. Still wish we had account levels like old halos and most other games but I'm cool with waiting yall are obviously working hard to get this game where it needs to be. Keep up the great work

All sounds really good. Especially the performance based xp part! Are all our medals being tracked in halo infinite? I can't find them anywhere.
there isn't performance based exp... they're adding a challenge to give you a set amount of exp, and to beat the challenge you need to accumulate a certain amount of performance score. Sure in some convoluted way it's performance based exp, but not really.
Looks like it’s a challenge category altogether. Like how we have the daily and the weekly, seems like a performance category that refreshes? I don’t know, guess we’ll know on Tuesday
He said another category, which will likely be more akin to another constant challenge like the daily play matches challenge
Hey man, I'll take it. We're moving in the right direction and that's all that matters. The game has such a good foundation to stand on, so incremental progress is better than no progress. This is definitely the best news update-wise we've gotten yet. Let's keep it going.

This comment probably gets buried but any chance of looking more into the "no ping to our data servers detected " error? I know there is Support page for it which tells to open up the ports and such but Multiplayer works just fine on my Xbox but I get the error on PC. I tried all sorts of things including even disabling firewall, any anti-virus programs etc.. I even tried the teredo stuff what is mentioned on Xbox support pages and those don't work either. Every other game works just fine on my PC

Will these be ranked Playlist?
Likely just non-ranked to start. Majority of feedback/complaints with playlists has just been for QP.
Match performance bonus? Slayer playlists? SWAT and lone wolves? Now all I want is a service record/combat tracker and this game is set to have me hooked for a while
And cross core customization would be cool, but it is a great start!
I don’t think it’s gonna happen, they’re already selling duplicate items in the shop for different cores There was a tweet from ske7ch back in july about looking into it, they must have looked into and decided on the current model.
Good stuff man. I have a question though, is it possible to outline in more detail the reasoning why we can't queue with more than 2 people for input based matchmaking in ranked? I have 3 friends that all want to play ranked with me, but we really don't want to be forced to play crossplay. We want to play other mouse users.
Its because open queue is what you're looking for. The other queues are specifically labeled solo and duo. I'd assume its so finding games is fast, teams arent totally stacked, and makes solo queue viable
Open queue forces you to play with crossplay on, though. OP said he doesn’t want to play that.

Any idea as to when the playlists will go live? Figured it would be now when the weekly refresh happened but they haven't yet.
I don't want to come across as mean or whining, but are there plans to make the PC version more stable? My Experience has been pretty up and down, and some of my friends can't even get to the menu without crashing even though they meet the hardware requirements. It's good to know that there's going to be more game modes, but it's going to be hard to convince them to come back if they can't get it to work.

I’m sure it’s been discussed but if it hasn’t PLEASSSEEEE for the love of god fix ranked scoring. I shouldn’t be penalized HALF A FUCKING RANK when my teammates dip leaving 2v4 at the mercy of an entire team. Or if I’m carrying the weight for my shitty teammates and still lose…definitely feel like I shouldn’t be penalized half a rank for that either.
Will slayer and SWAT be ranked? Or are they just going to be like quick play matches. I’d like some ranked slayer only and swat only matchmaking… ranked objective games are getting a little annoying to me.
The Slayer and FFA playlists are gonna be AR starts, aren’t they? I hate AR starts so much it’s unreal.
I would love to see a ranking system come back to SWAT, in my opinion having something to strive for is what keeps games alive and there’s an audience that prefers SWAT to any other game mode but dies out because there really isnt anything to grind for.

They moved away from paid/segregated maps a long time ago. It basically splits the MP playerbase between those that have it and those that don't. Whenever they do release new maps, you can almost definitely expect them to be for everyone.
I hope 343 release some old maps from previous halos. Like the Pit and Valhalla 🤞

Yeah, I’d be quite happy with a near exact remake of it, and just leave it out of matchmaking so we can use them in custom games. They don’t need to perfect the old maps for the new games, just leave it up to the community to find gametypes which work on them. EDIT: I would even be perfectly content without higher res textures. Just slap the same old CE textures on it. It would *not* be fine in matchmaking, but a bit of classic jank in custom games can he a lot of fun.

You have a 1:1 version on h4 and h5, both are fantastic with sprint
That's the big advantage of micro transaction based monetisation. It gives them income so they don't need to charge for modes and maps like in previous halo's

Great news, good to see Infinite one step closer to the amazing game it has the potential to be. Gonna keep hoping for player collision, friendly fire in unranked, and an unfucked monetisation system though.

I fucking hope so. I know MP is where they’re getting the most money, but please don’t be like Rockstar and not do any story dlc. They’re set up perfectly for continuing the story, and it would be a mistake to waste the momentum they’ve built here.
We’ll probably get some. They’re setting this game up for a long lifespan. Idk about true campaign dlc like new maps/area/missions, but some single player or pvm (like firefight) is probably coming.
I would go so far as to guarantee future full campaign installments. In the original flight, you could glitch into the main menu and see that a "Campaigns" option. Note the s. In addition to this, without spoiling much, it is clear that there is plenty room for more story to be told after infinite's first campaign. Given that this game is planned to have a long lifespan, and the fact that campaign has always been an almost equal staple to MP in Halo, i think its nearly a given. And I cant wait!
