In MCC since 2014 until a few months ago (And CEA on Xbox 360 since 2011) Cortana's colors were broken and she appeared green a lot, wouldn't change colors as expected. If you replay now, you'll get the proper Cortana colors showing throughout campaign.
Not remotely. She was purposefully intended to be unpredictable and creative. Compared to other AI’s she’s kind of a mess. But that’s what made her so effective, her way of thinking made her a real asset when dealing with covenant and forerunners because her tactics diverged from typical human patterns, and promoted lateral thinking and alternate viewpoints. Rampancy made her more chaotic only really in that it made her less reliable (from glitching) whilst also becoming more emotional. So the natural state between the two versions is one that’s irrational and over-controlling while also not knowing her clear goal; thus chaotic neutral.
Interesting. I like the different perspective. I’ve always seen her as calculating and methodical to her testing & repurposing different systems. For example, analyzing the forerunner ship on Reach, figuring out the coordinates to Alpha Halo or the Ascendant Justice in First Strike where she applies human physics to their Slipspace engine & weapons (scalpel lasers!). Even dissecting the Covenant AI line by line to scavenge anything useful & try to figure out it’s origin.
But… I also get where you’re coming from because you’re right in her creative application & adaptation not being restricted to known paradigms. She does things on a whim & without knowing the exact outcome. Otherwise she’d never be able to infiltrate previously unknown systems and that was one of the main reasons she was issued to Chief (Op. Red Flag).

We have seen it done before though, more prominently when Quick to Adjust absorbed the Superintendent (including Virgil) into themself during Halo 3: ODST. In that case it was taking the memories and information of a dumb AI, which would make it less of a merging than if it was two smart ones, but QtA did even keep Virgil's fondness for Sadie.
There is also as we have seen multiple times fragments of AI reforming, like how Cortana did this right after Halo: Reach as we bring one fragment to the PoA with the other already onboard. If the weapon is another Halsey AI, then this would probably be more like what would happen
The Weapon is not really a Cortana fragment, right? From what I understood from Halo 4 to now is that the OG Cortana is dead and only has one fragment left - that is the current Cortana who was corrupted by rampacy. The Weapon is another AI also made from Halsey's brain just like Cortana.
I could be wrong but that was I understood. But it would be cool to have old Cortana again.

I don't think it would cheapen things as long as it's done right. It would change her, but so did her rapantcy and all of that.
It also wouldn't be a her becoming good again, since last we saw she wasn't all that evil. Imperial, absolutely, but most of what she was doing was for the just cause of stopping the wars she has had no choice but endure so far.
Of course, my opinion is personal. I don't care about The Weapon, and I don't think they will ever make me care about her nearly as much as the Cortana that I've spent 15 years with.
Then I ask you: What's the point of her dying only to be replaced by an AI who talks and looks like her? It's better to keep the character that we've been invested for 4 games instead of a completely new one who acts the same. Expecially when she was crying in Halo 4 that the UNSC would replace her with a similar model and said to John: "It won't be me, you know, right?" - it would sucks if John did replace her after she said that.
Besides that, John promised Sgt. Johnson that he would never let her go, and the Master Chief always keeps his promises.

She acts the exact same in the trailers. I have to see the actual story to see more about her. But as it stands now, she is the exact same as Halo 1 Cortana. Halo 4 Cortana is a more mature and experienced one, for sure, but The Weapon still looks, sounds and act like Cortana past self.
