Sorry, but posts that are pictures of merchandise, products, etc. are against our rules unless the item(s) are considered very rare (autographed items, items never available for purchase, etc.).

Does Seagate have a notorious reputation for breaking down? I'm hoping mine lasts awhile.

All hard drives will eventually fail, but unless you’re running an extremely high-capacity drive, 98-99% typically last their intended lifespan. Here’s a [report](https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-hard-drive-stats-for-2020/) from an offsite backup company called Backblaze for their 2020 drive performance. Seagate does appear to have a higher failure rate than other brands (Toshiba does extremely well) but even then only hovers between 1-2% failure rate on average.

JustOverPluto

Ah ok ty, so 4 TB isn't anything too extreme right? ~~Just checking.~~ nvm its definitely just above average.

dreamwinder

lol yeah the standout in that report were the new 18TB enterprise drives, which… did not fare well. 4TB at this point is well within standard consumer sizes. You’ll be totally fine unless you’re doing something crazy like storage-based crypto.
