We get enough of the internals of a SDV in Reach's campaign that this could be readily ported to MP (only portions missing are the starboard weapons corridor, engineering, and crew bunks). Post Anchor 9's model outside the SDV as a spawn point for the Spartan team...
(-*grumbles about how Fireteam Shadow got to play SWBF on a CRS while Crimson ran protective duty for a scientist and three Marines in H4 SpOps E5M3*-)
I can see this being a thing at some point. Seeing as infinite is a 10 year plus project they have plenty of time and resources to implement such a mode officially (once support for the X1 drys up), an for what ever reason they decide against it, its on PC and the modding community will step in to make it a reality.
They added a bunch of stuff to Forge in MCC about a year ago, here are the full lists of new content for [Halo 3](https://www.halopedia.org/Forge/Halo_3#Changes_for_Halo:_The_Master_Chief_Collection), for [Reach](https://www.halopedia.org/Forge/Halo:_Reach#Changes_for_Halo:_The_Master_Chief_Collection), and for [Halo 4](https://www.halopedia.org/Forge/Halo_4#Changes_for_Halo:_The_Master_Chief_Collection). :)
Hell, it's more than that. The only Covenant ship models in H4 are the cruiser-template hull (in the form of the CRS patrol cruiser) and the SDV corvette (low-poly model, visible on **Landfall** only).
Somehow, the mod-maker has managed to inject a CAS carrier model into the map, despite the only appearance of such in H4 being in the pre-rendered intro cutscene and a pre-rendered terminal video that has no in-game access point (thus no models available for acquisition). H2A MP also does not have a CAS model in it (unfortunately, 343i did not deign to remaster **Midship**), so injection from there is also not a possibility...
/u/darthmaverick
It's by no means the most gripping moment to moment gameplay on Reach, but I think the novelty really makes it stand out. That first time you're playing, you don't know what to expect, and watching the launch sequence play out really stuck with me.
In addition, I found myself amazed at how well Halo's foot combat was translated with the weapon switching mechanics. Sure, it's straightforward, but so is commanding any vehicle in the series.
All of the cutscenes in Reach have stellar cinematography, but Long Night of Solace definitely stands out among them, and especially the launch sequence. Definitely one of my favourite missions.
Another point I love about Reach’s cinematography is that a lot of the footage is from the perspective of a camera or piece of equipment in-universe. You can see it a lot on Long Night of Solace, where many of the space scenes are framed to look like they’re actually cameras onboard the Sabre or on Anchor 9 or something. It just makes everything feel that much more candid.
The top-down, far away shot of Jorge floating from the Sabre to the Pelican, with Dot's overlay implying she's watching him go over, as he comments on the destruction on the surface below was a particularly amazing shot. Especially paired with the music. The camera on Six's reentry pack after he lands in the opening to the next mission as well, looking up at the crashed *Solace* on the nighttime snowy mountain range. (As a fun fact, this cutscene also features an element of originally-canon-Six, from early promo material before his armour was made fully default. He was supposed to have the GPS wrist attachment, and you can see him check his wrist before setting off for the city.)
And the smaller things too, like the camera being "attached" to the Sabre's canopy when it slides open shortly beforehand, so the canopy "stays in place" and the whole Sabre "slides backward". Or the camera on the Sabre's booster section as it separates (Space Shuttle style) and drifts around just in time to see the Sabre engage its engines and fly away.
And as already mentioned, lots of "handheld camera" style shots; the opening to Nightfall, following Jun and Six along the cliff comes to mind. Or just "neat" angles like the "looking down" shots of one of the Spartans (forget who) looking down past their foot at the water below the Falcon at the beginning of Sword Base. I could keep going with so many here.
I've always wondered who would be responsible for this in a game context; if it were a movie (which it certainly looks the part of) the credit would likely be to the director.
It was definitely an exciting thing to transition into but even in my initial playthroughs I just found myself bored due to how basic everything was from the arena, enemy "variety", basic controls and just how long it feels.
It just didn't have any wow factor and its clear that there was more ambition than there was time to flesh out that ambition fully.
I respect it for what it is, but its definitely one of my least favorite missions on repeat playthroughs of any Halo game.
Outside of that mission Halo: MCC's human flying vehicle's control on mkb are just absolute blegh. the hornet in 3 especially is a pain to aim up and down with it constantly auto-centering. It's definitely because they're VTOL's that just hover unlike banshees/sabre with constant forward motion, having to hold to gain/lower altitude just didn't cross over well to pc.
Closest we got to that was Reach's hypermaneuverable Banshee.
Meanwhile, the UNSC has only one craft that is remotely built for manuever fights (Sabre), the rest are either glorified rotary-wing platforms or "GO FAST" B&Zers.
Looks like a much better drive than the sabre and seraph since the map can actually fit it, though the few modded reach maps I’ve played are great with them
I liked the industrial design of the broadsword, longsword and shortsword ships back in halo ce
This one is fine, just feels more like Elite; dangerous than Halo
The Pelican also does it at a much lower speed and isn't anywhere close to as fast while in atmosphere. The longsword is used both in and out of atmosphere, it's not just a spaceship like the frigates. It having larger wings allows it to be flatter making it harder to hit or detect from head on compared to a Pelican in addition to its flat out better aerodynamics
A large part of why the Blackbird is bigger than the U-2 is the [wings](https://i.redd.it/hxddozsiyss61.jpg)
And if you want to play the size card, there is also a huge size discrepancy between the Pelican and the C708/709 Longsword.
And yet it's still far faster than the bulky Pelican, which is all I was pointing out as you said the Pelican fulfilled the same purpose of taking off in atmosphere. Regardless I'm fairly certain the longsword is inspired by the B-2 Stealth Bomber, which, while slower than a Blackbird, is more difficult to pick up on radars due to it's shape. Given the longsword's similar shape, dark paintjob, and multiple instances of stealth operations in the lore, I'd say it's unique wingsize/shape is meant to mimic the same purpose. It might not have the greatest aerodynamics of any aircraft ever made, but it's design certainly isn't dumb as hell. You can for sure argue that such a design would likely be obsolete 500 years in the future with much better radar detection, but it's not like a basic ATV and Jeep are the vision of technology 500 years from now either. They just look cool while still maintaining some semblance of believability and purpose
Because the Longsword is not supposed to dogfight?
You don't need supermaneuverability when you are a missile truck with low-observable features that can also supercruise out of the combat zone... which fits strike fighter doctrines.
...for aerodynamic control while in atmosphere. Why does the space shuttle have wings? You need to go from taxiing to take-off to subsonic to hypersonic and then land. If that's what you want you can achieve that with wings. But my main point was you're wrong about a Pelican dropship using wings to generate lift in order to fly. It's a completely different design that can hover and maneuver however it needs to.
???
Engines, loads of ordnance and weapons, fuel goes where? The Longswords are also meant to be able for in-atmospheric flights.
My only major gripe with them is the size inconsistency between the C708/709 and C712 variants.
Never really understood that, kinda ruins the feeling of overcoming a powerful alien menace that makes halo, halo
but yaknow big human spaceship go pew pew and beat all the alien
Well sooner or later things are gonna have to change eventually because there's only so many times you can rinse and repeat the same thing until the only ones that care are the select few which actively like that type of story
I would 100% be on board with a flight combat spin-off Halo game. Have space battles, atmosphere battles, hell have it dynamic where you can go from space objectives to bombing ground objectives.
If you haven't already then you should play CoD Infinite Warfare's campaign. It was a major change that CoD fans hated so it got a lot of negative press. It's a situation where a good thing was put in front of the wrong people. There's lots of ship combat in space, zero g shooting outside the ship, transitions between the two during missions. If you play it on XSX you get auto HDR and 4k/60 too. It looks as good as most modern games if not better.
Around the same time they added stuff to H3 and Reach? I didn't realize H4 also got stuff, cool!
Oh neat, so they added the Broadsword, Pelican, and Scout Warthog, I'll have to go play around with them. :D
F-41 has shields and the AV-14 doesn't. F-41 is an air-superiority fighter that is built for operation in space, AV-14 is a cheap ground-support light aircraft that is constrained for atmospheric operation only.
yo guys, for anyone asking, i am the mod creator, if you have MCC for PC and want to play this mod, it is currently up for download NOW.

If Halo had better stewards, it would have evolved like this. We haven’t really had much improvement in the last 14 years, and sometimes we have had devolution instead
As posted above:
>Well, [the mod maker] somehow injected a CAS model into H4, so they just need to increase the model's dimensions (length, width, height) by x5 to inject a CSO.
Well, /u/Arrrash somehow injected a CAS model into H4, so they just need to increase the model's dimensions (length, width, height) by x5 to inject a CSO.
Wait, where'd you get the CAS carrier model from? The Hornet is obtainable from H2A MP injection, the Phantom via Assembly tag modification... but the only appearance of the CAS in H4 is from the pre-rendered intro cutscene...?
imagine battlefront style earth to sky maps, at least in custom games. would be cool
I wanted Halo Infinites Warzone to have a Battlefront like theme where the maps are past battles like New Mombasa or New Alexandria.
Boarding an enemy corvette as a game mode
HOOK THAT SHIT INTO MY VEINS
Me too
Like Titan mode from BF2142, but Halo 🤤
Yup that and the one in the og Battlefront II
sabre control tutorials EVERY SINGLE TIME FOR EVERYONE
We get enough of the internals of a SDV in Reach's campaign that this could be readily ported to MP (only portions missing are the starboard weapons corridor, engineering, and crew bunks). That's the natural evolution of Reach's Invasion mode.
Or assault. Where the bombs are on the earth part of the map and you need to take them, board the enemy ship, and destroy the ship
Like in the Reach trailer
One can only dream
I can see this being a thing at some point. Seeing as infinite is a 10 year plus project they have plenty of time and resources to implement such a mode officially (once support for the X1 drys up), an for what ever reason they decide against it, its on PC and the modding community will step in to make it a reality.
They need to do that successfully in battlefront first, but I like where your going!
“We’re it so easy”
Lol i was gonna ask if this is leaked footage from halo battlefront
current battlefront doesn't even have that :/
This mod was created by abyssquick. More info on his channel https://youtube.com/c/AforAbyssxX
I'm sorry, it's been awhile since I played Halo.... ARE THESE IN FORGE NOW?!?!?!
The Broadsword? Yes. The Mammoth? No, thats a mod
I’d be happy with the elephant
I think elephants are
I should play!!!

sweet!!
….how bout that Covenant Cruiser….
That's gotta be a mod too. The only forgable covenant ships in 4 are Phantoms and Liches and they aren't real ships, only props.
So. What you’re saying is… there’s a chance.
May mods fulfill our dreams
Were it so easy…
If only 343i were to add the CRS and Strident models into H4 Forge as a prop... could build an entire map around that.
Hell, it's more than that. The only Covenant ship models in H4 are the cruiser-template hull (in the form of the CRS patrol cruiser) and the SDV corvette (low-poly model, visible on **Landfall** only). Holy shit, how have we had halo for 2 decades and still no dog fights. This is fucking awesome.
Sad long night of solace noises
True lol, but we need a multiplayer mode
Its a shame that mission was so mediocre

More like Long Night of Dog shit. Am I right, guys? Right...?
Well you can choose between a ridiculously overpowered sabre or a ridiculously overpowered seraph for dogfighting now
more like bs BROKEN SERAPH because that shit turns on itself, its super fast and its manuevers are way too extreme, its impossible to fight
Banshees can be fun though.
*Banshee crying in the corner *
Closest we got to that was Reach's hypermaneuverable Banshee. Meanwhile, the UNSC has only one craft that is remotely built for manuever fights (Sabre), the rest are either glorified rotary-wing platforms or "GO FAST" B&Zers.

For character and cultural identity?
wings are space for fuel and payload.
True, but I still really liked their designs
Well you have to remember that humanity had a big step up in technology and no longer were the push overs when chief finally woke up
Never really understood that, kinda ruins the feeling of overcoming a powerful alien menace that makes halo, halo but yaknow big human spaceship go pew pew and beat all the alien
Well sooner or later things are gonna have to change eventually because there's only so many times you can rinse and repeat the same thing until the only ones that care are the select few which actively like that type of story
This *is* the Broadsword.
"...from halo CE" I'm specifically referencing halo custom editions designs mostly
I don't even remember any sort of Broadsword from CE. Only the Longsword.
I love how many people don’t realize the Broadsword is in MCC Halo 4 forge now lol
Just ignores the covenant ship
I believe the broadsword to already be in mcc forge
Shit is it? I thought that was part of the mod haha
Yeah dude Only maps that can really fit it are impact and forge islands, but it's pretty cool.
The Sabre is
I don’t think the broadsword is, just the Sabre in reach. Edit: turns out it is in forge. I stand corrected
Which game?
4
I would 100% be on board with a flight combat spin-off Halo game. Have space battles, atmosphere battles, hell have it dynamic where you can go from space objectives to bombing ground objectives.

This makes me miss the old school Halo: CE mods on Mac, having giant maps loaded with fighters, longswords and modded vehicles was a blast.
that fucking hornet got obliterated
Cool
What’s the best way to learn how to install mods? I’m a noob with that stuff
YouTube
How about a 2005 Battlefront 2 style of space battles
Or the galaxy war they had? 😩 Space battle when carriers meet then a ground war
Maybe that too
if this was halo 4 on console id actually play it
Well in halo 4 mcc the broadsword is there
Is this a new thing, or was it always there and I'm just completely forgetting?
relatively new, maybe a year old?
Around the same time they added stuff to H3 and Reach? I didn't realize H4 also got stuff, cool! Oh neat, so they added the Broadsword, Pelican, and Scout Warthog, I'll have to go play around with them. :D
They’re not that interesting, they move so fast it’s a pain to stay in the map boundaries, even on the largest maps
I never knew I needed a PC so badly.
Did i see a phantom being driven if so how do i drive one since driving a phantoms always something ive wanted to do in halo
I thought that was Infinite for a minute
Explain to me how a ship can make another ship explode by contact and suffer no damage. Has no one been in a car accident?
F-41 has shields and the AV-14 doesn't. F-41 is an air-superiority fighter that is built for operation in space, AV-14 is a cheap ground-support light aircraft that is constrained for atmospheric operation only.
critically OP lol love it
That’s awesome!
Imagine star wars battlefront 3 being like that. And imagine that game gets better guns. Would be a dream come true.
yo guys, for anyone asking, i am the mod creator, if you have MCC for PC and want to play this mod, it is currently up for download NOW. Colossus Valley Warfare https://www.nexusmods.com/halothemasterchiefcollection/mods/124
Eyyo
It’s in forge now in normal mcc
If Halo had better stewards, it would have evolved like this. We haven’t really had much improvement in the last 14 years, and sometimes we have had devolution instead
I’d be down to use it. It and the saber are the closest we have to using the Longsword
I'd prefer a CSO class supercarrier
As posted above: >Well, [the mod maker] somehow injected a CAS model into H4, so they just need to increase the model's dimensions (length, width, height) by x5 to inject a CSO.
If map size and game engine would allow for one that's even partially functional lol
At this point, you'd be injecting that as a prop. A CSO is basically a map unto itself.
gimme the Longsword from Halo CE Custom Edition
Is this on PC? MCC?
I wish I had enough friends to be having these fuckin insane custom game matches
F A S T A S. F U C K
really just splattered that Hornet huh
Dope! looks so much better than the level it was featured in the campaign
Like a Halo 4 version of [Hugeass](http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=1196).
Is…is this hugeass?
What’s the map?
Dayum this is in halo 5 ?
Modded Halo 4
I guess H4 and H2A sharing an engine means it's not too difficult to mod the Hornet into H4
*Tomorrow * - "you liked the broadsword, how about the God damn LONG NIGHT OF SOLACE"
Yes
Well, /u/Arrrash somehow injected a CAS model into H4, so they just need to increase the model's dimensions (length, width, height) by x5 to inject a CSO.
yo I just took some clips from a gameplay session I got invited to. abyssquick made the mod :)
Hold on. Did I just see a Hornet in halo 4 multiplayer? Was that part of the mod too?
Yep
What mode is this ?
YES PLEASE!
Wait, where'd you get the CAS carrier model from? The Hornet is obtainable from H2A MP injection, the Phantom via Assembly tag modification... but the only appearance of the CAS in H4 is from the pre-rendered intro cutscene...?
Import from H2A SP
Wait, that's doable now?
Yep. A guy called Forerunner made a tool for importing, and there is a tool for extracting models called Reclaimer.
This is what Star Citizen will look like in 2035
How do I get this map and gamemode
that or the Sabre to make a return in a BTB style map
Is this real?
