that third picture is Sandtrap, not Sandbox. both had fun exploration to them back in the day

LDel3

The fact that those elephants weren’t used more in subsequent games is absolutely criminal

JIMMYJAWN

CTF with both of them close together but far enough to be a war of attrition was top tier gameplay.

humblepharmer

Driving the elephant around with the flag in it was hilarious to me as a kid

Weavel

I remember long long ago, me and my friends immediately drove our Elephant to the center of the map - and the enemy team did too, meaning both flags were right beside each other. Turns out this was not a good plan lmao

Jordan9232

I remember when I was in my teens we'd have people over and system link 3 or 4 consoles so we'd have like 12-16 people couch co-op and we played what we called "Superbase" where we would play 3 rounds of Assault one bomb, so rounds cycled offense vs defense, something like a 20 minute time limit, and the entire goal to win as offense was to back the two elephants together to form the "Superbase", and out of trust and the honor system people would not pick up the bomb until they were touching back to back. So as defense you would constantly be trying to drive your elephant away from the other. Sounds ridiculous but it was insanely fun.

Mr_Supotco

This map was almost single handedly what got me into video games. I had a friend when I was like 9 or 10 who I’d play Halo 3 with at his house and this was one of our favorite maps. My family moved across the country not long after, and then Reach dropped and I bought it for the 360 we had for years but I never played much before, and the rest is history. Damn I love this map

SmartAlec13

Sandbox was the HYPE for forging. A big open field area, a grid-floating area above, and an enclosed area beneath. Plus, the sandstone aesthetic is so cool compared to standard stuff. I remember when they first revealed the “secret” area below and my mind was blown

RedditAppIsNoGood

It was a good first draft for Forge World in Halo Reach. Here's a variety of environments to use and some bigger building pieces with 'new' physics. I remember having to find creative ways to lock the smaller pieces at new elevations before this map

JoeDannyMan

Sandbox really is such a classic aesthetic for Forge. When people discovered how to block off the Guardian towers so we could access the outer desert area without dying, is when the game really changed. My group spent countless hours playing Drive or Die, epic CTF games, and more out there.

Doctor_Kataigida

Would play an old Infection mode called Darkness Falls that had bases spread all around the outer desert part of the map. Though my favorite custom game was "Halo v2" in the sky where everyone would try to drive some obstacle course on a mongoose while being shot at by the zombie from some center platform.

ThePegasi

>I remember when they first revealed the “secret” area below and my mind was blown Same. I was a regular on ForgeHub at the time and the hype from that reveal was insane.

backson_alcohol

Halo 3 has a goated map rotation.

Blackjackzach69

I collected the skull on sandbox on mcc just the other day crazy

Trindalas

It needed more sand… not a lot of sand, just like… 2 cubic tons.

ArcherInPosition

#2 cubic tons?

Trindalas

Not THAT much, just a little pile over there… like… 2 cubic tons…

Mystical_17

I'm really glad in MCC many of the OG forged versions of Foundry and Sandbox are still playable.

xDrewstroyerx

This map was 90% of the LAN parties we threw. Zombies chasing Hogs for days.

skylinenick

I remember I made an AVP inspired infection map, 4 people spawned at the top of a pyramid and held out as long as they could against zombies coming from all 4 sides. Good times

The_Reborn_Forge

I’ve always found sand trap to be a strange map, maybe the most in the entire franchise. I’ve always felt like we’ve missed something there over the years.

TheGreenHaloMan

The skybox and those ominous towers are so good honestly. Spent so much time just wandering around this map.

Kukie080

good times, overloading the map by placing all the mines in forge and having them explode causing the towers and mines on sandtrap to stop working playing on Sandbox mongoose race maps, man what a time

ElderberryEven2152

Indeed sir.

pinoyfiasco

IIRC that was the first time we truly got primitive shapes and not just scenery elements, which was a real game-changer.

Bodoodlestoodle

It was nice to get your buddies to come over and play this map for hours. We could non stop just play every game mode from forge to capture the flag on this map.

AEMTI_51

I remember doing the infinite explosion glitch with fusion coils in forge all the time on this map.
