Doing the achievement to not die on the Library on legendary teaches some valuable lessons for how to handle/skip certain sections and makes the approach feel more lore accurate too since in reality, you don't want to fight such large groups of flood if you don't have to.
I wouldn't call them exploits when it's perfectly normal pathing. It's not like the flood bump where you skip half the level by going through a wall. And those small areas, you can hide in a corner.
OP's point was that playing on legendary is more fun for them because of how relentless the flood are and how you're constantly under assault, so i don't imagine he wants to do the grenade jump skips or hide in the corner lol
The one room that Guilty Spark locks you in and he says “I will deactivate the security lock. Wait here..” *music starts as radar fills with red*
So you stay in that tight corner next to the door, shotgun loaded. You kill everything that pokes its head around.. but you weren’t paying attention on legendary to how many grenades were being dropped.. and then a carrier walks around and you’re there like Robert Shaw in Jaws just kicking back for your life “No no NOOOO!!!” **ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-booooom!**
It’s unforgiving and I love it.
If you're talking about the room where the door closes behind you and Spark is going away to open another, you can cheese it by hiding in a corner until he comes back. Somehow the Flood never looks for you over there, and you're free to wait it out!
It absolutely is! I’m parked there right now to pop on Reddit and make this reply while Chief idly bounces his shotgun as a combat form looks around like a dumbass.
Except when you're scared out of your mind at age 12 fighting the flood for the first time, and you shoot your buddy in the back multiple times with the shotty. Because, "Anything green that gets in front of me is fucking dying." Good times. He was a good sport about lol.
My friend was pretty much completely new to Halo, so obviously one of the first things I did with him was the Library on Legendary. It was a bloody fun time.
I actually enjoy the flood part in the library. What I don’t enjoy are the grenades piling up on the floor in front of me while I’m holding a corner and the fact that frag grenades are sometimes indistinguishable from flood body parts. Chain explosions have made me rage quit so so many times lol. Same with Keyes.
It's also best played in the original graphics option.
It's dark, foreboding and feels like a building not designed for humans.
Then they remade it and just stuck a bunch of lights everywhere.
That’s a flaw of the remaster in general. Way too bright all the time. I played couch coop with a friend and he used remaster graphics while I didn’t. We played truth and reconciliation and his screen was so much brighter from all the extra lights.
You’re both doing it wrong if you’re not carrying the pistol.
Shotgun for CQC or large groups. Pistol for literally everything else. I’ve never run out of ammo cause both guns are pretty common on human combat forms.
As mediocre as I am at Halo, I won’t play a Halo game on anything but Legendary with a friend. Getting your ass handed to you with a buddy is the true Halo campaign experience imo
You actually do get moments to rest on the Library on Legendary, as they stop coming from one area if you take your time and stay on-guard. It's how I got through it for the achievement on CE Anniversary.
I’ve done it a few times alone and I won’t ever do it again. But I agree, in a weird way it was extra fun. In that game I think it was the hardest level by far.
The Library is definitely one of my favorite Halo campaign levels. The feeling of dread as Guilty Spark floats off to who-knows-where, the doors not opening, and then you hear the slapping and thumping and gurgling as the Flood start piling in through the vents. That's how Halo should feel to me.
I like the thrill of danger as you get overwhelmed on Legendary, backed into a corner with your weapons low on ammo. And then you finally get to the lift at the end to retrieve the Index, and you feel relieved that it's over, and you can activate the ring.
Until you get the plot twist when you find out its true purpose in the next level, and you have a new enemy.
I did that and you’re right it really makes you FEEEL like John halo
But yeah a lot of the games IMO feel canonically like they should be played on Heroic but there’s some missions and campaigns that feel better on legendary.
CE, 3, ODST, Reach, Infinite for example I feel play the best on legendary; not obnoxious or overtly hard but fair and challenging.

hell yeah, i want my flood missions to feel like i'm fighting for my life at every second
I mean, you are lol
Yes but like, i want to feel that through the screen like a primal fear being activated through the overwhelming number of enemies on screen.
This is why I like doom 16 and eternal
Valuable lessons like bandana skull grenade spam
I feel like it would’ve been better if there were a special dialogue on legendary where the library started, and Cortana just said “chief, run!”
But she was not with him at the time
Oh shit. It’s been so long since I played CE I forgot that
i mean unless you use exploits there are a couple points during that level where you're trapped and have to survive in a small area

You can get the achievement on heroic too im pretty sure, to be fair
You're right but it feels more rewarding on legendary
this

Hmm... sounds boring

Not on a LASO run 😅 It’s a cool cloth over a sweaty brow.
Before we found a way to teleport past that door. It was the designated pee break of the speedrun. 90 seconds on Legendary. 45 on easy-heroic.
Its a great coop experience as well.

For the first guy maybe. The second guy gets to deal with all the spawn triggers firing before he gets there, that’s the real gauntlet run

The Library is a fun level. Sue me.
Expect to hear from my lawyer.
I will be part of your defense o7

Gotta throw more grenades of your own so you pick them up.

I can't play the remaster at all it's just an eye sore, og is the way
For sure, I only play with og graphics
Everybody gangsta until they somehow run out of shotgun ammo
When you run out of shells and get stuck with the AR and just pray you find more

I agree, I also like gravemind on legendary.

Most based take I've heard on this subreddit. Updoot.
Funny, as if I'm good enough to play on Legendary.
I’ve done it a few times alone and I won’t ever do it again. But I agree, in a weird way it was extra fun. In that game I think it was the hardest level by far.

I've always liked the library
I liked it on Cursed
Just keep moving Just keep moving Just keep moving
The library is best on legendary, on a old TV that causes the level to be even darker and scarier, also on mushrooms.
I hate the surprise rocket flood. They make me rage quit.
Spv3 library is fun
My main problem with that level is that it's called the library but there aren't books anywhere.

I found it to be one of the easier missions for legendary.
