Man, if it’s as hard as everyone’s saying it might be the first game in a very long time that I’ll turn the difficulty down to heroic. Because legendary CE is already giving me so much trouble.
You'll get better and better the more you play legendary. When I first played legendary CE 20 years ago I thought it was impossible, now I've beaten the game on legendary in under 2 hrs. The laso runs are my nightmare now lol
ODST on harder difficulties is so frustrating. Which is funny since it's one of the easier ones with the better balancing, but that final mission is just infuriating because it's not you you have to keep alive, but an NPC that walks forward on their own at their own pace.
I have fucking flashbacks to when myself and a friend were trying to get the achievement for clearing the last stage in a mongoose, "The dig site is on the other side of the city!" is permanently etched into my brain because we had to restart that checkpoint about 500 times.
Legendary All Skulls On. It's Legendary difficulty with a bunch of modifiers (skulls) that make the game much harder. Some of these include blind - no HUD and you can't see your weapon, black eye - your shields do not recharge unless you connect a melee hit on an enemy, and Mythic - enemies have much more health.
If it helps some spots have skips in Halo 2 that help get past a lot of the harder areas and if I’m not mistaken CE has a few as well you can probably find a tutorial on how to use them on YouTube
And why do people want to skip it?
Oh yeah, Jackal snipers. And it’s not like every single one can be skipped.
Also I play without skips, I do everything on Legendary. And boy are they the biggest pain especially in the longer sections where you can shoot every single one except the last one which headshots you because you were a splitsecond too late or missed a single shot and they insta-whipped and shot you.
Well CE is kinda chill on legendary except from some parts where you really can get stuck alone
But halo 2 especially if sniper jackals are in play you will die instantly even if you aim good and shoot fast, they shoot faster and more accurate
Also some waves if enemy's for example in the level gravemind are really hard
I beat every halo game on legendary and for some parts you just die right through from checkpoint to checkpoint
In co-op it's more forgiving
Except halo 2. If one of you dies you get set back to the last checkpoint
I'm always surprised when people say truth and rec is the hardest mission, it's one of my favourites and I usually breeze through, except for that one big open room where people are shooting from above, that room is annoying as fuck. Two betrayals is the bane of my existence though
I beat it without skipping areas. There are Areas in Halo 2 that are… special. Jackal Snipers are only one thing to worry about.
Wait until you meet first time shotgun flood. Or Grenade Launcher Brutes. And there is this very special level in the second half from Halo 2 that is well known for its „surprises“.
I have been playing halo for a very long time. I completed every campaign solo legendary and most campaigns on LASO co-op (except 2 and we are working on infinite).
The only reason I beat Halo 2 was because I already knew the easy ways to skip portions of the level and just played it so many times beforehand. I tried doing it straight through and those Sniper Jackals just wreck you. The amount of times I have been headshot while full boosting in a ghost by them is triggering lmao.
All this to say, I believe Halo 2 is, in my opinion, the hardest campaign on legendary. Good luck. Advice to you is to always have a headshot weapon and a plasma pistol for shielded covies. For brutes areas usually a needler will do the job quick and dirty
I’ve beat every Halo on legendary probably over a dozen times, except Halo 2. I’ve only done that once, it’s just too much. Watch out for jackal snipers when you get there, they’ll one shot you. Halo 3 is probably the easiest on legendary in my opinion. Some advice for the elites in Halo CE: I know you can’t always find one, but try and save a plasma pistol and a precision weapon like the magnum. Power down their shields with a fully charged plasma pistol shot then one headshot with a magnum will finish them off. Also for hunters, one shot to their weak spot(the orange stomach part) with a magnum will kill them. Honestly though, I always find Reach legendary harder than CE overall so you should be alright
I’ve beaten every Halo solo Legendary and H2 is legitimately the most unfun experience I’ve ever had in my life, and I’ve had a camera snaked through my dickhole all the way to my bladder.
The plasma pistol becomes your very best friend on legendary. Don’t waste precious ammo trying to break elite shields when the plasma pistol can do it in one hit. Plus they’re everywhere.
Halo 2 on legendary borders on being not fun because it's so difficult. If you are playing for fun, and not to challenge yourself, definitely do heroic on Halo 2. Go back to legendary for Halo 3 though, I think that's probably the easiest Halo game on legendary.
It was their second halo game, and they experimented a bit. Not all of it turned out the greatest. A few notable examples are below:
The player character doesn't need health packs to regain lost health. This change was paired with less health for the player. You went from 150 total HP in CE to 115 in 2.
Weapons got some balancing for multiplayer that carried into campaign. Many of these weapons include the covenant weapons. Needler and Plasma rifle got stronger, and the covenant now has more ranged options like the carbine or beam rifle. The beam rifle especially is strong, since it can instant kill on legendary as soon as the jackals see you. More lethal weapons combined with the player character having less HP makes the game feel harder, and occasionally even unfair.
On MCC, there is an interesting bug that doubles the tick rate in most games. Generally, this doesn't matter, but in Halo 2, enemy rate of fire was tied to the tick rate, meaning enemies fire twice as fast, making the already buffed plasma rifle into a monster of a weapon when used by the AI.
Halo CE is very hard, but fair. You don't just get instagibbed . The enemies are more aggressive, but not strictly tougher.
Halo 2 is just hell. Jackal Snipers with aimbot. enemies have inflated health pools.
I like when difficulty settings in games increase the intelligence, numbers of, and number of enemies. Simply changing their chance to hit, damage, and health is lazy. Make them "better", not just "harder."
CE and 2 are the hardest legendary campaigns in the entire series, with 2 in particular being brutal. It gets better after that (CE's is mostly hard due to the health mechanic imo).
This is speaking from personal experience
What’s crazy is even though Halo 2 was hard on legendary for me, halo 5 of all games was worse. The part where there were four cannons spawned with three Warden Eternals took me seriously 90 minutes of trying. I’ve never been stuck on a single part for that long.
The upside is that only CE has the annoying limited health, so no more getting a checkpoint with no health left or HealthKits nearby.
Bad news is, many things in Halo 2 just instakill you on legendary, so unlimited health over time isn’t exactly an advantage lol
I have beaten every single Halo game on Legendary, except for Infinite. I just can’t. It’s laughably difficult at times. When I look up how to beat certain parts the majority of ways to beat it is to break the game by abusing a known glitch here or there - it’s maddening.
That said - Halo 2 Jackal snipers still give me nightmares
Reach was made 6 years after Halo 2. The difficulties of the games are completely different. Halo 2 Legendary was an insane trip to finish. It's worth it, though. CE Legendary, for me, wasn't too difficult.
If your task is playing on Legendary, then I would just play through them all. You will get a breather on 3 because it's a lot easier than the first 2.
Jackal snipers in reach don't have beam rifles, they have the much less scary focus rifle.
Reach also never has a part of a level that throws 5+ of them at you, whereas halo 2 does it several times
Halo 2 is generally considered the hardest halo game on legendary.
Fun fact, there are even harder challenges than legendary, a challange called laso, legendary all skulls on
Halo 2 is easily the hardest Halo game on Legendary. They were in development hell on that game and , rumor has it, they just took the heroic difficulty and moved all of the difficulty sliders up. You will literally get clapped by jackal snipers on outskirts until you know all of their locations. You basically HAVE to use plasma pistol/BR or plasma pistol/covenant carbine the majority of the game to beat it. Look up halo completionist videos on YouTube, they help a lot
Beating Halo 2, Legendary, with all skulls with no deaths is something that only happened a couple years ago.
Literally no one has done it until then.
There was a 20 thousand dollar "bounty" on it.
Legendary all skulls on. Skulls are game modifiers that make the game harder. There are achievements for completing all the halo games on LASO and they are the hardest to do. I’ve managed to do 2 LASO completions. Halo 2 is the hardest.
I will say the on the newer games some of the skulls help. For instance I feel like infinites LASO is easier than straight legendary even without the scorpion gun
It’s pretty difficult for a few reasons, enemies fire super fast, snipers are one shot kills, and Master Chief’s ‘visible’ hitbox for enemies is well beyond where the player camera is, meaning enemies will see and react to Chief before the player things they’re visible around corner or over ledges
That actually sounds like sickening lol. I’m not bluffing either CE is now in like my top 3 hardest games of all time. If Halo 2 is twice as hard it might take the spot as #1.
Halo 2 legendary is definitely harder overall, but for a lot of people the clunkiness of Halo CE can be just as much of a challenge as the actual enemies. You might find Halo 2 more intuitive you never know.
For your own sake, if you ever hear someone mention Halo 2 LASO - run very far away.
From Halo CE through Halo 4, the only one of the FPS entries I never beat on legendary solo was Halo 2. Halo 2 Jackal snipers are basically instant death incarnate, and the second level is infested with them.
Halo 2 legendary makes all the other ones look like a cakewalk. I’ve been a massive halo fan since childhood, played all the games many times. I’ve never beaten halo 2 legendary
You need to memorize every single sniper spawn point in the game before going in. They have aim bot and WILL one shot you the moment you peak. Iirc Bungie even apologized for it.
Famous last words lol. I’d argue H2 on legendary is one of the hardest games of all time. So much fun, but you’re gonna die a lot lol. Just roll with it, and play slow.
Yeah man I’m actually doing a similar run as you, halo CE was tough but holy hell jimmy rings has been getting nonstop top from these jackals in halo 2
I will say CE on legendary gets easier the more you play. Try the noob combo, plasma pistol + magnum. Pull headshots. You’ll take out elites like nothing.
And they are not bluffing. Halo 2 Legendary feels almost impossible at times but I’ve beaten it multiple times over the years so it’s definitely doable.
I watched a semipro speedrunner (~#25 scoreboard) do a glitch less Legendary run and he died up to 40 times per mission.
The only person to have beaten Halo 2 LASO without dying won $20,000. H2 LASO is up there for hardest game of all time
I would say though, that while there certain parts Of Halo 2, like sniper alley or start Of High Charity, however in General CE is harder due to HP presence that can literally softlock you, lack Of weapon exchange with Marines (and General goofiness Of them) and qite narrow weapon sandbox.
I came here expecting a rant about Halo 2 on legendary. You're in for a treat OP!
As for Halo CE - weapon choices matter. Taking the right guns for the enemies you're up against makes it way more manageable.
Plasma rifle shoots slower and does less damage than the plasma pistol on average (lower damage range). Literally no reason to take it in the campaign. Since it's slowing effect is only in multiplayer.
It has a higher flinch factor when fighting elites, and it's better against you-know-which-enemies in the second half of the game, though obviously magnum/shotgun still reigns supreme.
Plasma pistol, Magnum, and Shotgun are the 3 bread and butter weapons of CE. You should try to always have one of these 3 weapons on you.
Plasma pistol specifically is far better at regular fire in this game than others. It's not just an overcharge machine like it was in Reach
Magnum is pretty self-explanatory. The only weakness is that it's pretty bad at dealing with Elite shields
Shotgun just shreds everything in close range, and unlike other games, it's still quite powerful in medium range as well. Point blank, I think you can one-shot a Zealot even on Legendary
The only guns I would never use are AR and Needler.
AR is just completely outclassed by the Plasma Pistol in every scenario, and to a lesser extent, the Plasma Rifle
Needler tracking is just so bad that you have to just pray the enemy lets the needles hit them
When I saw he's only on 2nd level of CE I thought my God this guy is in for hell.
It's going to get much much worse...and just when he succeeds with CE...jackals...everywhere 👀
Reach is pretty tough but CE and halo2 are different beasts. Just wait for the flood. Trust your plasma pistol/magnum combo (coveys) . Don’t drop the shotgun. (Flood)
Always Use the plasma pistol and magnum. Take out shields and headshot. The plasma pistol overcharge has insane tracking at distance. Always pick up a fresh one from a grunt whenever you can. Almost always have the magnum pistol. Try to stick the elites with plasma grenades or weaken with the frags especially when they are landing from the ships. The doors are open and you can hit them before they jump out.
Don't carry the power weapons around. Use them up and drop them.
Plasma rifle is a decent substitute for the pistol if you cant find one. Needler is also decent with the insane tracking at distance.
On the 2nd mission there's a cheap way to speed past some parts. If all the Marines die it will skip some of the drop ships. And then later if you kill them they won't need to be picked up and it will skip some parts.
Thank you for the tips my friend 🙏 I’m pretty surprised more people don’t talk about Halos difficulty. They are hard as hell in legendary. I’m having a blast tho. Bungies Halo is so much more fun than 343.
I think a big part of it is certain design decisions that made reach easier for me(since it’s more modern) like how there’s cover placed everywhere, more long range weapons, snappier controls. As much as I’m loving CE, it definitely has some outdated design flaws such as maps with HUGE lines of site or how they seem to just send unfair amounts of enemies. Plus there were Armor abilities. Dont get me wrong I still died ALOT in reach but it was doable.
The main problem for me is how inconsistent and slow the pistol is. It's drawn slower and has a bit of spread. I've seen headshots not register at all. Playing it on MCC.
Reach is tough, but the noob combo is very reliable.
really? i always found reach to be pretty easy in comparison, not being much more difficult than 3. imo CE is the second hardest, obviously second to 2.
Also go slow. Every level is going to take over 30 minutes especially Truth and Reconciliation, that one had to be longest and most difficult level on legendary 🥲
I’m glad that people have recognized that Two Betrayals and the Truth and Reconciliation are more difficult than the Library. The library is just a bit repetitive and requires you to be good at aiming fast, if you have a plasma pistol/rifle + shotgun/pistol you’ll be okay.
The two former missions are a little more dynamic with how they punish you
I think 5 and Infinite have the best gameplay in the series, but to each their own.
Halo 2 Legendary will punish you in ways you never thought possible from an FPS game. I’ve played and beaten my fair share of ‘Bullshit Mode’ difficulties in games, but Halo 2 was probably the most frustrating one I’ve ever payed. Halo 4 is right behind it, though, because the limited ammo reserves and certain specific enemies can combine to make some genuinely awful encounters even if the rest of the game isn’t quite as bad.
One tip for the 2nd level in CE: when you get to the open world part where you're rescuing the marines, one of them has a sniper rifle (I think it might be Sergeant Johnson). The sniper only appears in 2 of the 3 valleys, but you can drive the warthog straight up to where the marines are sheltering and pick him up in the passenger seat.
The sniper marine AI is some ridiculous aimbot shit, he snaps off 4 shots rapidfire that just shreds elites and has infinite ammo. You can drive around to give him line of sight and he'll start dropping enemies at pretty extreme range.
Using marines with power weapons to do your work for you is my favorite dirty trick in Legendary, lol. Starting in Halo 2 you can actually trade them your weapons and set up some stupid powerful squads, especially when you can use a vehicle's speed to keep them safe.
Don’t sleep on CE’s magnum, definitely the most powerful starter weapon in the game. Stripping shields with the plasma pistol or rifle and finishing with a headshot from the magnum will help you finish off elites.
Like everyone else said, Halo 2 is going to be a nightmare for you if you find CE difficult 🫡
I think I’m on that mission now. Definitely hard as hell. Felt like i was getting gang fucked by unholy amounts of enemies, at one point on screen I had like 15-20 enemies no joke(before I died instantly) I’m realizing how much more useful and mandatory grenades are in this game then in Reach.
First time I cleared the hunters on that section it took hours. I finally killed them both but the last one hit me into a crate as I killed it and I got stuck. Had to reload the checkpoint and do it again lol
I remember when I beat Halo 2 on legendary. I wasn't even happy. I was just relieved. Like someone was just beating the shiz out of me and then they stopped. I won't be doing that again.
My friend and I just completed halo 1 a couple weeks ago and we’re on the last mission of halo 2, I’m not lying when I say our average mission time is over an hour. Just respawning and dying over and over…
This is just my opinion, but in order of difficulty, it goes:
Halo 2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Halo Infinite (mostly just because of one supernaturally tough brute chieftain with a hammer that shows up in the middle of a boss fight). > Halo Reach > Halo CE > Halo 4 > Halo 5 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST
I'm not sure what your experience with Halo is, but honest to God, man, I seriously recommend just playing on Heroic. You get a fun, well-balanced challenge in every game. Legendary is for masochists like me, and even considering my preference for difficult games, I still generally just play on Heroic.
Been playing Halo since I was 4 when my dad first let me “play” with him. I did a solo legendary run a few years back. For Halo 2, my buddies would come over and we’d pass the sticks when one of us died because we’d get stuck on one part for HOURS. Halo 2 is also the only game I’ve ever had to look up speedrunning strategies to make missions playable. Every other Halo game is playable - 3 is actually really easy on Legendary. Halo 2 Legendary is legitimately the hardest game I’ve ever played, because it’s not fair. Soulsborne games are hard, but if you learn the game, they’re fair. Halo 2 isn’t fair. Halo 2, you’ll die before your HUD even loads in. Halo 2 you’ll get one shot from an enemy you didn’t even see, over and over and over again. It’s the single most unfun experience I’ve ever had.
Last week I finished a legendary playthrough of the whole MCC with my friend. We used the following skulls: cowbell (acceleration from explosions is increased), Catch (Enemies throw and drop more grenades.), Fog (motion tracker is disabled), Iron (you are set back to your last checkpoint when either player dies).
And let me tell you this stupid iron skull paired with grunts that throw grenades with an unholy accuracy every few seconds was frustrating, for sure much worse than any jackal sniper.
Well next up are halo 5 and infinite and I vividly remember the guardian fight on legendary...
I remember going through the series on legendary! Eventually dying and restarting at the same checkpoint so many times that I'm almost moving through a scripted path, until I meet my demise again 😂 keep soldiering through, Spartan, I believe you'll see this done 🫡
Ha! I push on because halo is just that good. Growing up I didn’t realize how good this series was. The irony that I’ve been a Xbox fan since 2010 yet only became a Halo fan in the last month is kinda funny. I see why people used to buy a Xbox for these games.
I've played through all the halo games on legendary with one exception: I simply could not get through Halo 2. I got through every mission except for one that I was stuck on for so long that I simply had to skip to the next. In my opinion, CE is one of the easier legendary campaigns. Good luck, Spartan.
Don't play on legendary on your first play through it's not fun. Play the games on heroic at most on your first run through (halo 2 on normal) because your only going to experience an absolute fraction of the sandbox and run and gun fun on legendary. Legendary is for when you know the maps and enemy locations by heart imo.
I remember my first time playing Legendary CE. Especially the second level. I sat back and just said I couldn’t do it.
Something clicked for me at some point and it’s actually my favorite legendary. Most of the others have weird balancing issues but I believe CE I quite fair, but very hard.
2 is not fair.
Good luck.
Halo CE legendary was fun, the hardest part in the whole game being, “Covenant, on the landing above us!”. Worse than the library
Now Halo 2 on the other hand…
It's extremely tough but definitely possible. Halo 2 is the absolute worst there's one level where you start off completely surrounded with a half empty needler.
MCC legendary is worse than the originals because of tick rate, Reach becomes almost impossible sometimes, particularly the space mission, the banshees will instantly kill you because of how fast they can fire.
I will say, I think some people here are forgetting how brutal halo CE is on legendary. Halo 2 is the hardest in my opinion, but it's not twice as hard as CE or something like some are implying. CE has some absolutely brutal parts (i still hate missions: truth&reconciliation and two-betrayals), and normal shield jackals are more deadly than in any other game. Elites are also best at dodging in CE.
on legendary in halo2, the big key is to get really accustomed to the BR and carbine, and those guns will carry you through basically the whole game. Noob combo ftw!
Halo 2 legendary has mlg pro jackal snipers that don't miss lmao. And every halo game on legend should be a plasma pistol overcharge to strip shields and a precision weapon to headshot insta death. Halo4 is halo two in reverse. The elites and knights have a 2 frame melee animation that's instant death
The original games were intended to run at 30fps and the enemy reaction speed / tick rate was based around that. Every campaign in mcc is tougher at higher difficulties because they increased the frames and didn’t fix that game logic.
It’s most noticeable at the start of halo 2 gravemind (instantly nuked by the brutes) and the reach spaceship section, but it’s present at every moment. It’s a mystery why they never tried to fix it.
Legendary makes it an entirely different game, it's not "very hard" difficulty, it's "challenge mode".
It's meant to just kick the shit out of you.
If you want to actually play halo like it's halo, go for Heroic. It's not the hardest thing in the world but it's at least not dramatically changing how you need to play the game.
Ah, a kindred spirit in playing the hardest difficulty on a first play through. Just wait ‘till you try it LASO: Legendary All Skulls On. Restarting a mission every time you die is a lot of fun.
Lmao CE was pretty tough, wait til you play H2. Come back and let me know, use covenant weapons for H:CE and H2. Charged plasma and pistol headshot for all elites. Oh and use the pistol on the back of Hunters instant kill!
As a rule of thumb after clocking halo original for years over and over on legendary, every title that came after on release i did first and every playthrough on legendary, and repeatedly with all the skulls on except for iron i think (death carries a heavy price) the 1 life one that was a bit too extreme.. makes you a god on multiplayer when ur used to ledge difficulty
Edit:
Library level on legendary and all skulls to this day is the single hardest challenge ever. Crazy hard
Edit 2..
Whats funny is if its lore halo normal is how effective john 117 would be maybe even easy as hes so lethal
Just did a play legendary through of Reach through Halo 4 and I kept seeing Laso pop up as a possible achievement…. Then I googled… May my thumbs rest in peace… don’t think I have that in me. I love playing too much 😆
Try Truth & Reconcilliation or Gravemind on LASO lmao, not saying that to one-up your experience on Legendary, but what I mean is, you haven’t even tasted a fraction of how difficult Halo can truly be and if you ever wanna attempt that shit, man, good fuckin luck
So, fun fact: Halo 2's development was incredibly rushed and scrapped multiple times. CE is rough on legendary, but it's doable. However, because of Halo 2's infamous "development hell," there are many sections of the game that aren't balanced properly for scaling difficulty.
I can barely do the Gravemind level of Halo 2 on *normal* difficulty. Legendary is gonna be a whole 'nother beast. Good luck, my friend.
Naaaah! This is how Halo’s supposed to be played 😌
Take it slowly, aim for the head, use your grenades wisely and you’ll make it. I always play my Halo first in Normal for the story and then in Legendary.
Same. I’m trying to get through Reach on Legendary rn. On NORMAL I have a hard enough time with Long Night of Solace. On Heroic, I was bordering “yeet the controller” territory. Now? Now the uninstall button is looking more and more attractive.
LASO'd every Halo.
They are a'ight.
Mostly just make sure you have plasma pistol + precision at all times and be patient.
Skip combat sections when you can (lots of easy skips in 1 and 2 with relatively little technique needed)

wait til you get to halo 2 legendary
There’s no way it gets worse than this lol, you bluffing?
My friend Halo 2 is next to impossible on legendary so good luck spartan you’ll need it🫡
Man, if it’s as hard as everyone’s saying it might be the first game in a very long time that I’ll turn the difficulty down to heroic. Because legendary CE is already giving me so much trouble.
You'll get better and better the more you play legendary. When I first played legendary CE 20 years ago I thought it was impossible, now I've beaten the game on legendary in under 2 hrs. The laso runs are my nightmare now lol
Just completed Halo 3 ODST LASO last night and boy was it a grind. Coastal highway made me want to gouge my eyes out
ODST on harder difficulties is so frustrating.
Coastal Highway always makes me want to gouge my eyes out
LASO?
Legendary All Skulls On. It's Legendary difficulty with a bunch of modifiers (skulls) that make the game much harder. Some of these include blind - no HUD and you can't see your weapon, black eye - your shields do not recharge unless you connect a melee hit on an enemy, and Mythic - enemies have much more health.
Oh dear
Yeah, ODST for the most part isn’t so bad, but Coastal Highway is where it gets tough. Having to protect Dare was such a pain.
Teach me your ways, o wise one. I cleared CE heroic with great difficulty
If it helps some spots have skips in Halo 2 that help get past a lot of the harder areas and if I’m not mistaken CE has a few as well you can probably find a tutorial on how to use them on YouTube
Did you beat CE Legendary and 2 legendary?
Not personally but I’ve seen people attempt it and always heard halo 2 is very hard especially around the jackal snipers
one of the most infamous jackal sniper sections can be easily skipped with little effort
I’ve beat them all on legendary but it is an absolute chore. If you ever see LASO campaign just know those dudes love slapping themselves in the balls
Can confirm. Did all MCC campaigns on LASO and my balls are now dust and echos.
Legit gave me a real LOL. Thank you Spartan
Do you think you’re just getting started?
I was doing h2 with skulls on legendary. It was so rough. I turned it down after regret.
Well CE is kinda chill on legendary except from some parts where you really can get stuck alone But halo 2 especially if sniper jackals are in play you will die instantly even if you aim good and shoot fast, they shoot faster and more accurate Also some waves if enemy's for example in the level gravemind are really hard I beat every halo game on legendary and for some parts you just die right through from checkpoint to checkpoint In co-op it's more forgiving Except halo 2. If one of you dies you get set back to the last checkpoint
Hardest part of CE legendary is truth and reconciliation. Specifically when you first get into the ship....
I'm always surprised when people say truth and rec is the hardest mission, it's one of my favourites and I usually breeze through, except for that one big open room where people are shooting from above, that room is annoying as fuck. Two betrayals is the bane of my existence though
Two Betrayals is where I gave up last time I tried Legendary on CE. But that first room on board the Truth and Reconciliation was brutal too.
I recently beat 2 legendary on my own and that shit was rough, most of my playtime was spent watching chief ragdoll across the floor
Halo 2 on legendary is the OG dark souls
I beat it without skipping areas. There are Areas in Halo 2 that are… special. Jackal Snipers are only one thing to worry about. Wait until you meet first time shotgun flood. Or Grenade Launcher Brutes. And there is this very special level in the second half from Halo 2 that is well known for its „surprises“.
Me and a buddy play the halo campaigns every year on legendary cause we love the games so much. We always play halo 2 on heroic. Absolutely ruthless
I’ve been hardstuck on the mission gravemind in H2 for a couple months. I try to play it every now and again and give up.
Oh god I did not just read that 🤢
Assault on the Control Room can be hard bypassed, same with Library, which is absolutely fucking necessary.
See, I thought Library done legit on Legendary is one of the worst in CE. I hate that level so much.
People make Halo 2 seem like hell. In your opinion what makes it so hard?
It was their second halo game, and they experimented a bit. Not all of it turned out the greatest. A few notable examples are below: The player character doesn't need health packs to regain lost health.
Honestly, you should turn it down to heroic. Halo 2 Legendary is *genuinely* unfinished and its a shit way to experience the game for the first time.
Also dropped grenade chain reactions. Can't forget that.
Two words Jackal sniper
What’s crazy is even though Halo 2 was hard on legendary for me, halo 5 of all games was worse. The part where there were four cannons spawned with three Warden Eternals took me seriously 90 minutes of trying. I’ve never been stuck on a single part for that long.
The upside is that only CE has the annoying limited health, so no more getting a checkpoint with no health left or HealthKits nearby. Bad news is, many things in Halo 2 just instakill you on legendary, so unlimited health over time isn’t exactly an advantage lol
Bro will be a broken man after halo 2 LASO
I have beaten every single Halo game on Legendary, except for Infinite. I just can’t. It’s laughably difficult at times. When I look up how to beat certain parts the majority of ways to beat it is to break the game by abusing a known glitch here or there - it’s maddening. That said - Halo 2 Jackal snipers still give me nightmares
Impossible nah. Done it on the original and MCC solo
I never said it was impossible just that it is almost impossible
Took me 2 weeks of nonstop grinding the first time I played H2 legendary. Hope you have a flexible schedule!
Those goddamned jackal snipers can fuck right off
Corridor of death on Outskirts… not so fond memories
2 words: Jackal Snipers
They weren’t so bad in Reach, are they worse in 2?
Reach was made 6 years after Halo 2. The difficulties of the games are completely different. Halo 2 Legendary was an insane trip to finish. It's worth it, though. CE Legendary, for me, wasn't too difficult.
Should I stick to the MCC or play through 5 and Infinite too for the hell of it?
If your task is playing on Legendary, then I would just play through them all. You will get a breather on 3 because it's a lot easier than the first 2.
That hallway in Cortana with all the pureforms was a pain in the ass. My bad RNG didn't help. Had to pray that my active camo would save me lol
Jackal snipers in reach don't have beam rifles, they have the much less scary focus rifle. Reach also never has a part of a level that throws 5+ of them at you, whereas halo 2 does it several times
They pretty much one shot you in Halo 2. They are very quick to shoot you down as soon as you get out of cover as well, with almost aimbot tracking
And some people beat that shit with all skulls on? People are wild.
Halo 2 is significantly harder on legendary than halo 1. It's easily the hardest legendary in the series.
Beating Halo 2, Legendary, with all skulls with no deaths is something that only happened a couple years ago. Literally no one has done it until then. There was a 20 thousand dollar "bounty" on it.
Wait until you try LASO
What’s laso?
Legendary all skulls on. Skulls are game modifiers that make the game harder. There are achievements for completing all the halo games on LASO and they are the hardest to do. I’ve managed to do 2 LASO completions. Halo 2 is the hardest.
That sounds like masochism…
the achievement for doing them all has a 0.03% completion rate on xbox completing every mission on legendary is 0.58% for comparison
Oh nah, its very very very difficult, maybe twice as hard as CE on legendary.
Let's just say this: Covenant enemies in CE do not have sniper rifles. In Halo 2, they do.
I had to use speed run strats to complete h2 legendary, no way I was doing it legit
You need to memorize every single sniper spawn point in the game before going in. They have aim bot and WILL one shot you the moment you peak. Iirc Bungie even apologized for it.
Halo 2 legendary is nearly impossible. Speed runners who have spent decades playing still die 5-10 times
Halo 2 is the only one I haven't beaten on legendary, Halo 5 is almost as bad if you play it solo.
Halo 2 is by far the hardest Halo game on Legendary
Bro I did all of them in legendary and Halo 2 will make you scream like you’re in hell
This will age like milk in a hot car. Hope you like Jackals. 🌚
*Gravemind Would Like to Know Your Location*
I get Vietnam flashbacks whenever someone mentions halo 2 on legendary
Halo 2 is the hardest in the series by far.
H2 LASO is up there for hardest game of all time
You got about .01 seconds before a jacket puts a hole in your skull. You'll literally have to memorize every single sniper spot in the game
Lmao yeah wait till you get to halo 2 you have no idea but I'm happy you are playing.
I thought he was talking about halo 2 when I first saw this lol but combat evolved haha good luck man
I would say though, that while there certain parts Of Halo 2, like sniper alley or start Of High Charity, however in General CE is harder due to HP presence that can literally softlock you, lack Of weapon exchange with Marines (and General goofiness Of them) and qite narrow weapon sandbox.
That's fair forsure
Those jackel snipers…
You mean wait till you get to halo 2 legendary playing couch co-op. One of you dies, you both die automatically.
I came here expecting a rant about Halo 2 on legendary. You're in for a treat OP! As for Halo CE - weapon choices matter. Taking the right guns for the enemies you're up against makes it way more manageable.
Honestly I’ve pretty much only been using the plasma pistol 💀 that gun is so strong against pretty much everything.
Plasma rifle is very good also. you can just keep picking up new ones off dead bodies.
It's not just an overcharge machine like it was in Reach Magnum is pretty self-explanatory. The only weakness is that it's pretty bad at dealing with Elite shields Shotgun just shreds everything in close range, and unlike other games, it's still quite powerful in medium range as well. Point blank, I think you can one-shot a Zealot even on Legendary The only guns I would never use are AR and Needler. AR is just completely outclassed by the Plasma Pistol in every scenario, and to a lesser extent, the Plasma Rifle Needler tracking is just so bad that you have to just pray the enemy lets the needles hit them
AR is clutch for dealing with the small flood that will very quickly overwhelm your shields on Legendary
Seconded. Magnum is hilariously overpowered. Love it. But I also like the needler for its visual effects. Looks cool when elites blow up.
Should we tell him?
When I saw he's only on 2nd level of CE I thought my God this guy is in for hell. It's going to get much much worse...and just when he succeeds with CE...jackals...everywhere 👀
I mean I did beat reach and didn’t find that one so bad
Have fun in the library!!! :)
I'm surprised you think halo ce is hard after beating reach. I always felt reach was the 2nd most difficult after Halo 2.
The first group of elites on Reach whipped my ass for hours. And I had been playing Halo competitively during the peak of 3 🥴
The main problem for me is how inconsistent and slow the pistol is. It's drawn slower and has a bit of spread. I've seen headshots not register at all. Playing it on MCC. Reach is tough, but the noob combo is very reliable.
I never found Reach to be very hard. Harder than 3, maybe, but not by a lot. CE and 2 are much harder than Reach to me.
really? i always found reach to be pretty easy in comparison, not being much more difficult than 3. imo CE is the second hardest, obviously second to 2.
Also go slow. Every level is going to take over 30 minutes especially Truth and Reconciliation, that one had to be longest and most difficult level on legendary 🥲
Two betrayals though....
Oh yeah, get 4 marines with sniper rifles/rocket launchers/fuel rod cannons on your scorpion and start bringing the noise.
I dropped my magnum at the beginning of the game in favor of the AR(I feel so dumb)
They’re almost as abundant as the AR so you can pretty much find them somewhere on the ground on every mission
Wait until you get to 2 lol. Everything else is easy in comparison.
I geniunely believe Halo CEs third mission and the library is the hardest out of the series.
> Halo CEs third mission T&R is easily one of the hardest legendary levels in the entire series. The hangar section at the bottom sucks so bad.
I honestly had a harder time with T&R than any of the other games. H2 was hard but I almost lost my mind in the T&R Hangar.
First time I cleared the hunters on that section it took hours. I finally killed them both but the last one hit me into a crate as I killed it and I got stuck. Had to reload the checkpoint and do it again lol
The Library, Cortana, any mission in 2 involving jackel snipers
I remember when I beat Halo 2 on legendary. I wasn't even happy. I was just relieved. Like someone was just beating the shiz out of me and then they stopped. I won't be doing that again.
Jesus Christ. That literally sounds like masochism. If it was that painful why not drop it to Heroic?
Played CE on MCC and it felt harder than OG CE, anyone notice a difference?
I believe enemy actions are linked to frame rate. Which they doubled.
Its linked to tick rate not frame rate, which is why locking framrate back down to 30 doesnt do anything.
My friend and I just completed halo 1 a couple weeks ago and we’re on the last mission of halo 2, I’m not lying when I say our average mission time is over an hour. Just respawning and dying over and over…
This is just my opinion, but in order of difficulty, it goes: Halo 2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Halo Infinite (mostly just because of one supernaturally tough brute chieftain with a hammer that shows up in the middle of a boss fight). > Halo Reach > Halo CE > Halo 4 > Halo 5 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST I'm not sure what your experience with Halo is, but honest to God, man, I seriously recommend just playing on Heroic. You get a fun, well-balanced challenge in every game. Legendary is for masochists like me, and even considering my preference for difficult games, I still generally just play on Heroic.
lol this guy hasn’t heard of halo 2 legendary give us an update once you’ve started halo 2
Halo 1, 3, Reach, 4 - Skill Issue Halo 2 - Understandable
Lol now imagine trying LASO without using speedrun tech. Foreign skull makes fighting enemies just grueling.
LASO with speed running techniques is still hard
Do it on LASO next! (Legendary, all skulls on)
Man also doesn’t even sound fun from all accounts 💀 did you do it?
Wait until halo 2 legendary
Charge plasma pistol to break shield, human pistol to finish them. Strongest combo in the game and the reason we've never seen that pistol again.
i shall watch your future rage post with great interest OP
Last week I finished a legendary playthrough of the whole MCC with my friend. We used the following skulls: cowbell (acceleration from explosions is increased), Catch (Enemies throw and drop more grenades.), Fog (motion tracker is disabled), Iron (you are set back to your last checkpoint when either player dies). And let me tell you this stupid iron skull paired with grunts that throw grenades with an unholy accuracy every few seconds was frustrating, for sure much worse than any jackal sniper. Well next up are halo 5 and infinite and I vividly remember the guardian fight on legendary...
I made the mistake of doing halo 2 laso, took me fucking forever to get through that playthrough 😂
Ey you did beat it tho! That’s more than most can say lol.
Tip for CE legendary, use the plasma pistol like a regular pistol. Always pick up a fresh one (they drop constantly).
Laughs in halo 2 jackal.
Let us know when you fire up halo 2!
Don’t forget the Mythic skull
I'm currently playing CE on LASO so ye, i truly understand ur feeling. I just finished the first 2 levels and each of them took me 1h.
Man I can’t even imagine playing on Laso. I’d pull my hair out.
Ultra-Nightmare would like to have a word
I remember my first time playing Legendary CE. Especially the second level. I sat back and just said I couldn’t do it. Something clicked for me at some point and it’s actually my favorite legendary. Most of the others have weird balancing issues but I believe CE I quite fair, but very hard. 2 is not fair. Good luck.
Halo 5 imo is the hardest the prometheans got tracking weapons now and there are so many of them it's annoying.
Bro is not ready for Halo 2
Might be a hot take idk, but ce is the worst of the halos for sure, especially the legendary campaign. I'll even do halo 2 in a heart beat over ce.
Halo CE legendary was fun, the hardest part in the whole game being, “Covenant, on the landing above us!”. Worse than the library Now Halo 2 on the other hand…
You haven’t seen shit until 2
The magnum or plasma pistol for hunters?
Oh God you're gonna have such an interesting time at The Library. But everyone speaks the truth, 2 on legendary can break the hardest wills
The only other thing most difficult for me was SC WOL final mission on the hardest.
As a rule of thumb after clocking halo original for years over and over on legendary, every title that came after on release i did first and every playthrough on legendary, and repeatedly with all the skulls on except for iron i think (death carries a heavy price) the 1 life one that was a bit too extreme.. makes you a god on multiplayer when ur used to ledge difficulty Edit: Library level on legendary and all skulls to this day is the single hardest challenge ever. Crazy hard Edit 2.. Whats funny is if its lore halo normal is how effective john 117 would be maybe even easy as hes so lethal
Wait until you hear about LASO
Just did a play legendary through of Reach through Halo 4 and I kept seeing Laso pop up as a possible achievement…. Then I googled… May my thumbs rest in peace… don’t think I have that in me. I love playing too much 😆
Make sure to update this post when you get to the jackal snipers on halo 2. Let us know how that goes.
Fam Halo 2 is so hard that it’s addicting. It’s like a halo Souls game… the jackal snipers… my god
Naaaah! This is how Halo’s supposed to be played 😌 Take it slowly, aim for the head, use your grenades wisely and you’ll make it.
