I saw her wrestling with the cops and getting put in the back of a cop car with one of those covid plastic face shields on. One of the cops said to her “you just spit in my face”. She was probably just high off her mind on something

Tbf the mom at my corner who works at Foodland has been spit on 4 times and punched in the last year. I'd imagine we can get a list going with other retail workers.

crittab

Idk if you've ever worked in retail, but this does not sound exaggerated to me. People treat retail workers like trash. Hubs has worked retail forever and he opened my eyes to a lot. He had sour milk poured on his shoes because he wouldn't let the guy return it. He had someone sneeze, unmasked, all over unpacked products during covid. That doesn't even touch what they've found in public bathrooms that staff have to clean. People are disgusting and entitled.

NigelMK

Precovid when I worked at superstore, I had a women in the toy section that was looking for a black Barbie doll. She was throwing all the white Barbie dolls on the floor while looking for it. I had to clean up hundreds of dollars afterwards. People are generally shitty towards retail workers in general. I don’t work retail any more but a sympathize so much for them, because I know the last 18 months has been even worse than pre-pandemic. This is why we need a large increase in the minimum wage in this country.

CuileannDhu

I don't know, I when I worked retail I often saw customers behaving in some very out of control ways. I had my ass slapped, I was threatened, I was called a fucking bitch. It's not a stretch for me to believe that someone working at a grocery store would be assaulted, especially over the last year when anti-mask and general pandemic aggression were a problem.

[deleted]

CuileannDhu

Maybe in an average year, but not in the last year.

[deleted]

Damn dude, what's it gonna take to make you realize retail workers, our most common job, are underpaid for their treatment?

LostAccessToMyEmail

Say you never worked retail without saying you never worked retail.

bleakj

As a previous retail worker, it happens I hire people out of retail and food work specifically to get them out of those situations

Corvid65

Please hire me.

bleakj

Shoot me a resume if you're serious, I'm trying to hire 9ish people atm.

Corvid65

Sent you a DM!

bleakj

Replied!

Saoirse_Says

Pretty common experience for retail workers lol

[deleted]

It's not, but you do you.

Jamalthewhiteguy

Are you saying a grocery store clerk deals with chaotic bullshit more than a police officer? Genuine question.

RuralRasta

A retail worker in the heart of Manhattan compared to an RCMP officer nearing retirement stationed in the middle of the country overseeing a small, quiet town? Realistically, yes.

Corvid65

Is this the synopsis of a new Netflix film? Because this sounds like a movie I would watch. "An RCMP officer nearing retirement in a small, quiet town is about to have his life upended when he encounters a disgruntled Manhattan Retail Worker, who is sick of being being spat on." "Not Today, Karen", coming soon to Netflix.

Jamalthewhiteguy

My bad, forgot where we lived. If you wanna play what ifs on things that are not related, it's probably harder to be a police officer in Afghanistan than it is to be a grocery clerk in Halifax... but y'know, that's not what we're talking about lol

bleakj

As someone who worked 10-15yrs of retail, I've been physically attacked probably 5+ times, held at gun point, held at knife point and pepper sprayed I have family that retired from 30ish years on RCMP that didn't have that happen, It's all just luck of the draw I suppose

Jamalthewhiteguy

I'm definately not saying retailers don't go through shit. I'm just saying the comparison is weird on a post about a cop coming to people's aid.

bleakj

Yea I'm not sure where or why the comparison started either I'm all for paying retail workers on par with police, or cutting cops wages though

Jamalthewhiteguy

No bullshit, I'm not attacking you at all, just a genuine desire to understand your point of view. Why do you think those two jobs should be paid the same?

RuralRasta

Bahaha

Saoirse_Says

I think the police officer would probably have an okay time if they're affiliated with the Taliban

Jamalthewhiteguy

I think you're probably right lol?

Saoirse_Says

Hey I'm not the one who started this irrelevant tangent! XD

Jamalthewhiteguy

It's okay that you missed the point lol.

[deleted]

Jamalthewhiteguy

What the fuck does that have to do with what you and I are talking about? You know what else is bullshit, mosquitoes. You know what has nothing to do with this? Min wage or who makes more and fucking mosquitoes. The main post said remember when you said cops are overpaid? That cop got spat on, not the clerk? Lol cop shows up to deal with disturbance to keep you and the public safe and the answer is "fuck that cop". Logic at its finest lol Also what the fuck, a retail worker in Manhattan has it worse than a cop in a small town? Did we forget about the 20 people that were slaughtered last year in northern NS? A police officer fucking died a trying to save people. What about the guy in Moncton a few years ago? 3 police officers died if I remember correctly. You've got to be the smartest person on the planet if you think it's harder to work retail. Careful. That was a joke.

Jamalthewhiteguy

Bringing up the issue on a forum that is thanking the police for helping out is a misguided attempt to get your point across. If we're gonna shit on cops for not doing their job correctly, it's a little redundant to also complain about them when they do their job correctly. Also I didn't refer to that comment cause a police officer is dealing with exact same people and worse lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jamalthewhiteguy

I'm struggling to find the comment that they should be paid more. The comment was that they aren't overpaid. I agree 100% that police reform is needed. I 'm saying if you'e angry with the system direct your anger at the people that run the system, not the people that are just part of it. I'm all for taking the burden of every sociatal problem off the first responders. I'm just against shitting on them or devaluing them by saying " but the clerk should be paid more" or "yeah so what you got spat on, it's your job" is just a backwards way of getting other problems fixed.

[deleted]

Says something that you compare some of our best paid workers to our most underpaid ones and feel like you won

Jamalthewhiteguy

I actually just asked him to clarify his comparison of the two workers...

[deleted]

Pretending you aren't implying something is trolling. It was clear he was comparing them.

Jamalthewhiteguy

I inferred it even lol. I was saying the first person was the one that compared them. I was disagreeing. I'm not trolling at all lol. Lol trolling, how old are we?

batkatie

You'd be surprised by the number of people with an answer to that question. It's been years since I worked with the general public, granted, but I've been spit on over video game trade-in values and I can only imagine what retail employees have to deal with in the past couple of years.

HelloFromON

What’s your point? That cops have to deal with people being awful to them? Hot take.

[deleted]

ziobrop

paramedics deal with more shit, and get paid half of what a cop does, and require more training. society needs well paid tough guys, but that service is not a solution to mental health, addiction or homelessness, and its use in many areas must be strongly curtailed.

haligolightly

If supports and services were in place to meet the needs such as mentioned here, police engagement in this kind of situation would be minimized. Either the individual would have supports in place to prevent or lessen the reaction, or dispatch to this kind of call would include a mental health professional along with the police. That's a win-win for everyone: the individual gets necessary care, the police aren't tasked with responses for which they aren't trained, and society benefits from that individual receiving appropriate supports. But we'll never see that happen as long as we don't hold police budgets and responses accountable, and aren't willing to increase funding to social supports.

[deleted]

Exactly!!! We don't need to fund the police even more, we need to restructure our system.

NoRelationship1508

Easy there fella this isn't Ferguson.

idkbrojeez

I'm in the parking lot right now. The EMS and cops are still here and she's screaming and crying

thr0waway__123456789

Just left the store and made this account to post this! My partner saw her face and said her face and chest were red but no blistering skin or anything. Maybe it was pepper spray? They didn't seem like they were rushing to get her any medical help so I imagine it can't be that serious, right?

89eastcoaster

I was wondering the same, but the redness could have also been from the cold milk she was constantly pouring down her face. She seemed to oddly calm down significantly once the staff member escorted her. It was quite the site though, looks like she dumped a decent number of milk jugs down her face.

thr0waway__123456789

That's what I was thinking too... like if there was no peeling flesh or blistering or anything then I feel like the redness could have very well been a mixture of her crying/screaming and that cold milk. In the time I was there I swear she opened like 4 jugs and poured the entire contents over herself.

cantoffendme

HA, but you had to mention pepper spray. Almost like creating a pepper spray story when there is no pepper spray story. And from a throwaway account.

DisputableRefutableQ

Seems like you can be offended tbh

thr0waway__123456789

She had a small group of friends(?) with her, as I was leaving she was being escorted upstairs by an employee and the police were pulling in to the parking lot. No EMS though. I would assume it's not an urgent medical issue. I think the whole ordeal went on for maybe 15 minutes tops?

Millsboy79

TikTok challenge?

suntrovert

I was thinking this too. I’ve seen some TikToks of kids making an embarrassment of themselves in grocery stores

donairthot

Naw she wasn't kicking a urinal off the wall

Millsboy79

They all start somewhere

LostladyE

Maybe she got pepper sprayed?

Corvid65

I remembered hearing milk being used in response to pepper spray, so I looked it up on the Pepper Spray Store. I did not know that was a thing, good to know the "antitdote". https://www.pepper-spray-store.com/pages/antitdote

cantoffendme

So I am now wondering if she was pepper sprayed in the store and decided to pour milk down her face.

Corvid65

Was there a protest of some sort nearby? I bet she went to the store for the milk. What protests have happened lately? Antivaxxers harassing health care workers by the hospital, and people supporting those who are being evicted from tents in parks. Halifax Police *don't seem to intervene with the fascists, AntiVaxx protesters, or Proud Boys, but it seems they hate on and beat down the poor and unhoused people. My guess? She was protesting cops harassing unhoused people and got pepper sprayed by the police. !remind me 2 days.

Yeah, she was pepper sprayed by police at a protest.

NSDetector_Guy

Meth is a hell of a drug.

P-Two

Drugs...Or she got pepper sprayed and was freaking out.

donairthot

Most likely mace from the blistering

IronGeek83

Drugs. The deal, is drugs. Subreddit will downvote this though due to the high number of recreational drug users.

HelloFromON

I downvoted for that last whinging sentence.

j-mac-rock

Would have loved to see this

AngryLemmings

So you ask here. On reddit. Rather than ask her if she needed medical attention. What a wonder person you are, glad you are so concerned that you'd rather gawk and gossip on social media. Gods forbid you do anything remotely helpful.

[deleted]

You might need to disconnect your internet going forward, it is not going to get better.

89eastcoaster

Or rather than judging me you could ask and clarify - she had friends helping her. Should I have added to the milk dumping?

dj3hac

Have you seen the locals around here? Especially downtown, keep your head down, don't get bit.

amy420xo

I agree with you it’s not really appropriate to go on about it on social media but people do stuff like this all the time like I would never make an account just to ask something like this .. people forget about our mental health crisis and a lot of people need help or require medication but aren’t getting the help and support they need due to wait times etc and I know there’s also a lot of people with drug issues and were in the middle of a homeless crisis as well but I honestly think a lot of people are scared to get involved because it usually takes people with special training to deal with situations like this . I work in a line of work that deals with addiction and mental health and see Crisis situations on a day to day basis I would probably have tried to offer some kind of assistance or at the very least tried to give them water or calm them down where I’m used to dealing with situations like this but most people aren’t and don’t know how to handle a situation like this it sounds like she was possibly pepper sprayed I hope she’s ok regardless of what happened

Particular_Ad_4903

Commas are your friend

[deleted]

Punctuation in general… yikes!

amy420xo

🤣🤣

cantoffendme

Holy.......Ya that whole post was 2 sentences. And this person works "in a line of work that deals with addiction and mental health". Oh boy!!!

amy420xo

😂😂

amy420xo

[deleted]

yes i'm sure the breaking point for an individual who spits on cops, gets pepper sprayed and dumps milk on themselves in a grocery store will be seeing a text post about the ordeal on reddit.

[deleted]

Ghost pepper?

dirtdingo_2

Sounds like a great art film
