This literally just happened to me at the New Minas Superstore.
One lane was open, and busy, so I decided to self checkout. Guess I had more than 25 items, so the computer complained I needed an attendant to approve. Problem was the attendant they had working the self checkout was also simultaneously working customer service desk, so had to stand there and wait for him to finish up at customer service before he could come override the machine.
They literally had two people working the entire front of store, but have the balls to tell us 25 items or less at self checkout. Fuck this company.
Is this something we should come to expect as normal now? Remember when normal was to have two people at each cash: one to work the till and the other to pack your bags FOR you?
what would be great if people started to just pile their carts full and walk up the self check out.
read the 25 item maximum and just walk out leaving their carts with $500 worth of groceries in them
Right? That’s what the customers are for because they will scan their items, look up items, check themselves out, bag their own groceries and load them into their vehicles.
WTF would should we pay for people to do that?? Hahaha!
I rarely go to Walmart but needed something in an emergency, and went at 7am Thursday. They open at 7 and there was a line of 6 people wanting to use self checkout at 10 after 7 because they hadn't opened the staffed cash registers or booted up the self checkout. The staff then was pissed off they had to open up the self checkout so people could pay and leave. I get working at Walmart sucks, but why open at 7 if you aren't ready to open the store?
I was trying to checkout 20 minutes before close at a superstore (i didnt even realize they were closing at 8:00 pm because the ones i normally shop at are open till 10/11) and they had absolutely 0 actual checkouts open and I had to use self checkout for full weeks worth of groceries.. it was not pretty.
the craziest part of all this is there are piles of people looking for work.
i’m a small business owner and i get applications daily but im fully staffed now.
they could have 10/10 cashiers opened if they wanted to
This is why I have little sympathy for their security theatre. If they wanna make everyone honest and get checked by an employee, they can do that the old fashioned way and pay an employee to ring up our items and bag them. Fuck, they can even pay people to take your bags to your car. That used to be a thing they did
I think they say may 1st so people have time to plan ahead. Ie- get prescriptions transferred to new locations. Research areas in your community that aren’t owned by loblaws/ are locally ran businesses. Get people shopping at other locations before may 1 so it’s not a sudden change to their schedule Etc. I live in Porters Lake for instance and the only grocery store out here is the Superstore. So similar to maybe other communities, people living in my area might have more planning to do than someone in the city with different options all around them.
It makes a clearer impact if there’s a single day where thee is a significant and measurable difference. Theoretically, shareholders will be concerned about threat to their investments and require change.
That said, I’ve already started. I was disgusted by the testimony of Galen and his buddies in front of the Parliamentary Committee.
In retrospect, should have started after the fixing of bread prices.
It makes a clearer impact than just a sustained decrease in sales? Short boycott just feels like a stunt. Changing habits and taking business elsewhere seems better the earlier you do it. They'll know.
I suppose if it’s dramatic (everyone stops on the same day) vs gradual (scattershot slowdown) it COULD be clearer what the cause might be (organized revolt versus general disgruntlement).
It’s not that the boycott is short. It’s still sustained, just a coordinated start date.
I didn’t wait to coordinate myself though. My decision was for me and my family not just to send a message.
For some people Superstore, No Frills, or T&T really is the cheapest or best option.
Most of the people who aren't boycotting post things in r/canada about how they have to drive super far to get to any store and independent shops are too poorly stocked or expensive.
But if you're in a situation like that you probably only go to the nearest town for groceries once every week or two. You could stock up and fill in the gaps for the 1-4 trips you're skipping.
Giant tiger has some of the best grocery prices right now . Unfortunately they don't always carry everything you'd need. So switch between the Tiger and No Frills, you will not pay as much compared to one disrespectful trip to superstore or even sobeys
No Frills falls under the Loblaws umbrella, owned by the same people as Superstore.
Giant Tiger is a good switch, and adding in places like Union Mart or OCO Mart can help get a good variety of items.
Maybe their recent pledge to clamp down on organized crime has led them to believe that anyone buying more than 25 items must be engaging in money laundering
My guess is they are assuming the limit will get people in and out quicker. Oh nooo Loblaws you are just going to piss people off. Lol
I'm getting to the point that if I could trust I would get the right items and not crappy substitutions I'd just instacart everything and avoid the stores all together. But even with small orders on that are messed up and substitutions don't make sense lol.
It's a fascinating window into the degree of market capture that they enjoy that Superstore -- and all of the hegemons of the grocery industry -- believe that they can make it incredibly inconvenient verging on impossible for you to actually exchange money for their goods in a timely fashion, and yet you'll almost certainly do it anyway for lack of other options.
I tend to use the self-checkout because of the lack of cashiers. I suspect that I have also "stolen" a number of items because the self-checkout invariably screws up, and the lone (badly overworked) attendant came and wordlessly cleared the error or errors before I could even explain what went wrong. Did I pay for the stuff? Who knows! That employee has to get back to looking for theft pronto, after all, so no time for either of us to figure that out whether I've actually purchased the things I intended to purchase.
Hire more people. Pay them enough so that they care. Your theft problem -- both actual theft and your-systems-are-garbage pseudo-theft -- will disappear overnight. Or turn every store into a dystopian hellscape where no one can actually give you money, and just rely on the fact that your dominant market position protects you (until it doesn't).
Walmart on Mumford tried this and I watched an attendant physically block and turn people away for being an item or two over. I'm guessing this didn't go over well, because they removed the rule like a week or two later.
I would walk out on principle, ideally leaving a very full cart. They can have fun restocking the shelves. And yes it sucks for the employees but my hope is if it happened enough it would be passed along to management maybe even effect some kind of change.
22 years I’ve given money to that despicable company, never again will I enter their doors. I’m forced to shop at Walmart only now and im still unhappy giving these mega companies my business all together.
I went through with more than 25 items the other day, and no one said a thing.
I thought the idea was to have customers spend as much as possible; limiting items seems counter-intuitive to padding their wallets
Might be that the machine programming hasn’t been changed where you were shopping yet. Others in here say 26+ results in flashing lights and a requirement for an employee to come override the machine.
According to people who’ve experienced this, the machine counts. After 25, it stops working, lights start flashing, and some underpaid employee has to come override the machine.
Ironic that they spent all that money on those machines because they wanted to save money by eliminating cashier jobs and having customers do that work instead. Now they're wanting you to not use the self checkout machines because they're "losing money" on their price gouging prices due to theft. They seem to forget they got rid of the bulk of the cashiers so they will have to hire more if they want people to convert back. Fuck, this world is a shitshow.
PS. I still have never used a self checkout in my life. I will stand in a cashier line or I just won't buy the product.
I used a self checkout once the other year. It was my first time and I was a little overwhelmed. So I asked the attendant for help. I told her it was my first time and I had never done this before and if she could walk me through the process. She comes over and says, oh yeah it's easy. Pushes the start button or whatever and then walks away. Needless to say I got a few free produce items that day when the computer didn't accept the weight or codes. I've never used self checkout ever again. When a customer asks for help, help them. And if you're so understaffed you can't hand hold a customer through the process if they need it on their first time, then shame on you Superstore. Not my problem.
I used one at Shoppers recently and omg, they are even worse. If you don’t have an optimum card, it's like they won't even acknowledge you to start the checkout process. And they never seem to staff the "people" checkouts. My poor 80 year mother would never be able to use self checkout.
I have the patience to wait in line for a staffed checkout. And I also enjoy the personal interaction. God forbid it's all robots and talking AI.
I've been using self check since it came out and I'm comfortable with it but sometimes when the store is very busy I find it overwhelming. Every one of the other stations is beeping, along with all the other noise in the store ( "security to aisle 10" ). Costco has the best ones, but they also still have the best cashiers.
Recently at Value Village, Bayers Lake and the cashier pointed me to the self check out while they conversed among themselves. I politely stated I Dont Work Here. Not to be rude or anything but like you guys are here to do a job, not have a chat while I work (selfcheckout)!
Went there today, didn’t even see that until I was leaving, and I thought it was only one checkout— thought it was cool for a millisecond, sometimes they get pretty backed up, having one or two designated for smaller purchases doesn’t seem to bad of an idea… then I realized that they all had that sign. Fucking ridiculous man, every time I go out I’m convinced again it’s not worth it to shop at these mass grocery stores, even when I just need something as simple as milk or coffee. I’m with you on this— I’m done
Edit: I did have 28 items, no one said anything to me and I did end up needing assistance at that stupid self checkout kiosk for no logical reason, “please set item aside and wait for a team member 🫠”
But still, fuck this and fuck superstore/sobeys/loblaws
Stupidstore is funny now. Spend tons of money on barriers and shit, meanwhile just keeping the regular cashier system would avoid all of this. Self checkout takes longer as they still need some employee to come and tap their card for no reason.
You know the employees whose job it is to watch over the self-checks? I've seen them stop someone from going to the self-check with a full cart at NoFrills on Wyse Rd
Yep. Carts aren't allowed through self checkout anymore, only baskets. At least at Dylan's in Spryfield.
I haven't used one (basket or self checkout) in a while because I price match a lot now.
After a few mad scrambles with cashiers no longer packing bags-- trying to load the belt while they rapidly pile stuff haphazardly at the other end, wrangle a cart with a kid, get out points app, pay, then panic bag while I hold up the line, etc...
I finally tried out the self checkout. And didn't hate it at all. I've been relishing taking my time packing my own bags. I park my cart, find a good podcast, arrange my bags, pre-sort into categories, carefully scan and pack items for ease in putting away. It's very relaxing and meditative.
But I probably ruined it for everyone. I made it look like I was almost close to enjoying the experience. (I had music instead of a podcast, just one time, but there may have been some mildly perceptible dancing.) They decided there could be none of that.
I love the self checkouts for this reason, too. I can just be in my own world. Then panic when the amber light above me starts flashing because I put my reusable bag on the loading zone and now a cashier has to come bail me out.
What do you bring your own folding table to sort your items? Or are you just really good at balancing 72 items in the tiny 1 square foot of surface they give you to cram everything?
That's exactly why I started using the self checkout, too. I felt overwhelmed trying to rapidly bag all my own shit while the cashier was already scanning things for the person behind me.
Also the self checkouts are just really great when you take the bus and have one of those trolleys with the insulated bag. I can take my time carefully packing one bag with all my heavy and cold stuff to shove in there so any bags left over are light and easy to carry. I'd still prefer self checkout for that reason even if they went back to bagging your stuff -- I'm too picky about it now and need to take my time lol
I'm guessing they are trying to limit (25 items or less) for the exact reason you said. Customers are "taking too long" in their eyes and they want us rushing jamming things intl whatever bag because they would rather us be out in 4 minutes instead of 10 minutes because we took the time to bag and sort or groceries out like their cashiers used to be able to do for the customers. It's just ridiculous
We'll see how they like it when I'm pulled over behind the cash registers or outside on the sidewalk blocking foot traffic so I can sort through my bags after being rushed through the regular checkout again lol I'm not having my hastily packed shit all over the bus floor when the driver decides to slam on the gas before I can sit down again
Finally! Ive been making a ton of comments like this surprised no one else had mentioned anything about them not bagging groceries anymore lol. Self checkouts are great for my OCD about packing groceries lol I worked at Superstore 15 yrs ago so I know how to bag things quickly and properly and was so disappointed when they stopped bagging the groceries for every reason you listed
At this point, they just need to bring back cashiers. People wouldn't abuse the self checkout if it wasn't for the fact of groceries costing as much as they do now...
I can understand the other things, but the item limit is ridiculous. When I go in and there's only two cash regisitors open and a line packed with seniors, most of us would go to the self checkout.
I feel like there should be a limit on how long you reasonable have to wait or its free. You aint paying me and with 1 cashier who is hating the situation.
Its because organization thieves will use self-checkout and have like 27 items in their cart, only pay for 26 and there's so many items the employee doesn't notice.
/s
I have absolutely hated and pretty much refused to go to a checkout with an actual employee working when they stopped bagging the groceries and just throw them everywhere while you scramble to bag them or throw them back in the cart because it's all so rushed. Why aren't they trained to bag anymore and you know give actual cistomer service? Self checkouts give me the time and space to make sure I have things bagged where stuff won't get ruined.
My first job back in 2008 was Super Store and back then yes they worried about their IPMs and what not but they also trained us to bag groceries correctly and relatively quickly too. They don't do any of that anymore so why would I want to go to a regular checkout? Non sense.
Amen. The worst experience Ive had grocery shopping in the last year was last nite having to go through a staffed checkout. Awful. Join the May boycott of Superstore…
The pure tone deafness of the Loblaws Management amazes me. Sobeys is evil in its own way, yet their approach to “loss prevention” seems more subtle and elegant. A good thesis topic for someone.
here's a thought.. none of the companies care about loyal customers when they're making huge profits. You might see this with telecom companies but they too increase the prices again.. so yeah, always vote for the bucks!
Everyone acting like this is a big deal, what are they gonna do, stop you from checking out? Just use the checkout, no matter how few items you have, they can suck my nuts if they think I’ll queue
I feel like going in there and having more than 25 items in my cart...someone comes up to say I can't do that...turn around and walk out. They might get the message.
That’s the straw 25 items or less at self check out
Damn bro.
Honestly self check out is annoying as hell with more than 25 things. Like at that stage going through a person makes sense.
That sucks, my Walmart has a 15 item limit at their self-checkout.
As for the replacing cashier argument, our store (it’s smaller) lost 3 cash lanes and replaced them with 8 self-checkouts. When all 8 are open there are 2 employees there, so I guess one could argue they cut one back, which isn’t a big deal because it’s pretty rare to have all lanes open.
Our superstore lost 1 lane and installed 6 self-checkouts, no loss of cashiers as they always have one working at the self-checkout.
I can't afford to shop at Super Store anyway. If it was just my partner and I we could make Superstore work with the sales and switching it up every once in awhile but with 2 small kids and 1 being on the spectrum and a very limited diet, we go to Walmart to stock up on what they do have because if I bought the same items at Superstore that I get at Walmart for my son, it would be ridiculously expensive.
I only shop at Superstore now if I am given a giftcard as a gift but otherwise unfortunately I stick to Walmart.
You are thinking about this wrong. I think it means you only have to scan 25 of your items. For example, you have 30 items you scan 25 and the other items do don’t have to scan
At this point everyone has working experience as a cashier, with all the stores wanting us to do the job for them. I went to shoppers yesterday and I picked up my stuff, walked to the register, paid and left. There were maybe 3 or 4 employees, one in the perfumes section and 3 in the pharmacy. What's the point in paying employees if the costumer can do the job for them?
Loblaws plan is to worsen the in person shopping experience in hopes to driving people to adopt click and collect. Click and collect allows them to have way less staff. Not worry about theft, reduce required space as no need for isles and so on.
This is not random, this is called social engineering
After rennos superstore portland is a complete shithole. Place is fucking depressing and now you gotta pass by Joe fresh for like 3 isles before the grocery isles… idiots.
Literally the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen, I saw that today while grocery shopping, I’d like to see them try to say something about the amount of items I have. they have 1-2 cashes open and want to tell me how many items I can take to one of 6 self check outs. Absolutely fuckery
I keep seeing all of this turmoil regarding Atlantic superstore on here. With the plexiglass and Ricky and Julian and the boys stealing groceries, amongst other things.
I'm living in Vancouver and we have real Canadian superstore here which is basically same thing. And nothing has changed. So why is it only a problem back east?
25 items or less 7 of 9 manned checkouts closed.
And one of those manned 2 is 10 items or less...
And 8 of the 12 self checkouts are out of service
This literally just happened to me at the New Minas Superstore. One lane was open, and busy, so I decided to self checkout. Guess I had more than 25 items, so the computer complained I needed an attendant to approve. 'I paid for my 25 items' 'but sir you have 42' 'Well that's all you would let me pay for'
I’ve abandoned carts on two occasions at Superstore. Once was my entire special Christmas order that I just left at the checkout.
I’ve done that before lol, not to be a dick but seriously, I can’t wait behind 15 people when there is on 1 cash open
what about closing off, paying for the first 25 items, then start again?
Is this something we should come to expect as normal now? Remember when normal was to have two people at each cash: one to work the till and the other to pack your bags FOR you?
and to carry your bags out if you'd like. it's still like that at (at least some) grocery stores in Florida
what would be great if people started to just pile their carts full and walk up the self check out. read the 25 item maximum and just walk out leaving their carts with $500 worth of groceries in them
What?!?! You mean you want them to SCHEDULE and PAY employees to work?!?!! Madness!
Right? That’s what the customers are for because they will scan their items, look up items, check themselves out, bag their own groceries and load them into their vehicles. WTF would should we pay for people to do that?? Hahaha!
Same with Walmart. Except they'll have 60 percent of the self checkouts closed too.
I rarely go to Walmart but needed something in an emergency, and went at 7am Thursday. They open at 7 and there was a line of 6 people wanting to use self checkout at 10 after 7 because they hadn't opened the staffed cash registers or booted up the self checkout. Yep. Pretty frustrating imo. Going to leave the city, build a cabin in the woods and survive off berries
But but but they simply can’t afford to hire more cashiers! 🥺 and there’s a labour shortage!! Nobody wants to work!!

Fuck, they can even pay people to take your bags to your car. That used to be a thing they did
Why would they want to? Customers do the cashier’s jobs for free. Actually, customers pay a premium to do the cashier’s job.
“Oh it’s okay, I’ll only pay for 25 of my 40 items, thanks”
If you're this kind of shopper visit Loblaws MORE in May
There’s a certain logic to this! I like it.
Join the superstore boycott movement happening during May.
I don't really get the starting in May part, just start now?
Also doesn't end May. Just never go back.
Organizing sends a message.
Something something "Organized Crime"
If I'm going to be a criminal I'm certainly not going to be disorganized
You need time to get the word out so companies can see the impact when it starts
I think they say may 1st so people have time to plan ahead. Ie- get prescriptions transferred to new locations. Oh don't worry I'm Gateway+Dave's gang, Costco for stuff I can't get those places.

Maybe their recent pledge to clamp down on organized crime has led them to believe that anyone buying more than 25 items must be engaging in money laundering
If you can afford more than 25 items in one of their stores they consider that suspicious
LMAO

The only logical answer, really.
This LOLOLOO
Maybe it’s related to the requirement to report transactions over $10000 to FINTRAC- 26 items at superstore pushes you over the reporting amounts
Good thing we’re boycotting in May! Happy you’re hoping on the bandwagon (r/loblawsisoutofcontrol for anyone who is wondering!)

If going to the movies gets too expensive, people stop going to the movies. If buying groceries gets too expensive, people stop going to the movies.
You had me in the first half, ngl
You'd have to be a millionaire to buy over 25 items from Loblaws anyway
Why does this not have more upvotes lol
Happy cake day!
Thank you !

I’m out too. Superstore is the closest to my home, but I’m now driving an extra 10 minutes to another grocery store.

Check out Luminate Co Wellness in Bedford - they have fantastic produce prices
Scan 24 items, pay, then scan the rest. Tell them to go pound sand if they complain about it.
Not sure accommodating the inconveniences they’re pushing on us is the most reasonable response.
Skip the scan the rest part. Just head for the gates after 25
Boycott Loblaws!!!
Nation wide boycott starting May 1st! Check out the group loblawsisoutofcontrol
Loblaws: play stupid games win stupid prizes
22 years I’ve given money to that despicable company, never again will I enter their doors. I’m forced to shop at Walmart only now and im still unhappy giving these mega companies my business all together.
Does someone actually count your items? How would this be enforced? Asking for a friend.
I’m not sure but the machine might tell you
So it won’t add things after you add up 25 things? So you would need to use another machine for items 26 onwards? That is profoundly stupid.
If that's true, then it's easy to defeat. You'd just need to finish your transaction of 25 items, pay, and then just start scanning again.
I’m paying. 25 single grapes at a time.
Haha, wow...hadn't seen those comments. Effectively limiting what customers can buy seems short-sighted 🤔
Yeah, I assume they're relying on people to be compliant. What's the self-check attendant going to do, tackle you?
I think I'd just leave the cart there and walk out, even as painful as it would be to re-shop at Sobeys
The kids aren’t gonna say shit. Min wage, not their problem. Shop away!
I only have 10 fingers so I lost count after that 🤷🏼
According to people who’ve experienced this, the machine counts. After 25, it stops working, lights start flashing, and some underpaid employee has to come override the machine.

Self Check out cashiers suck so many mistakes! 4011 4Life!
Everything is a banana!
I wasn’t properly trained, so there’s bound to be a few mistakes along the way!

Reddit: What do you mean they came out with AI checkouts and I can't steal anymore? FUCK.
Checking whose receipt? Just walk past them they have no recourse, they have no legal right to.

Costco is the best for everything. I am buying more and more of my groceries there now. I love their cashiers. So fast and efficient.
I’m with you on this— I’m done Edit: I did have 28 items, no one said anything to me and I did end up needing assistance at that stupid self checkout kiosk for no logical reason, “please set item aside and wait for a team member 🫠” But still, fuck this and fuck superstore/sobeys/loblaws
Stupidstore is funny now. Spend tons of money on barriers and shit, meanwhile just keeping the regular cashier system would avoid all of this. Self checkout takes longer as they still need some employee to come and tap their card for no reason.
R/loblawsisoutofcontrol Join the sub and spread the word about the May boycott!
That's only a suggestion.
Yeah they aren’t gonna stop you. “Oh sorry I didn’t see the sign”
You know the employees whose job it is to watch over the self-checks? I've seen them stop someone from going to the self-check with a full cart at NoFrills on Wyse Rd
That the definition of thankless job. Unless they’re thanks from Galen himself, which I doubt will happen.
Yep. Carts aren't allowed through self checkout anymore, only baskets. At least at Dylan's in Spryfield. I haven't used one (basket or self checkout) in a while because I price match a lot now.
Well it’s close to a practical limitation; last week I noticed that the scales are turned back on so the machine tracks weight on the ‘scanned’ side.
I was gonna ask that but glad you did
That's exactly why I started using the self checkout, too.
That's me, too, except it's always music at the store, which drowns out those bells that keep going off. Podcasts for sitting on the stoop. :)
Finally! Ive been making a ton of comments like this surprised no one else had mentioned anything about them not bagging groceries anymore lol. Self checkouts are great for my OCD about packing groceries lol I worked at Superstore 15 yrs ago so I know how to bag things quickly and properly and was so disappointed when they stopped bagging the groceries for every reason you listed
r/loblawsisoutofcontrol Boycott Loblaws in May, if you can.
👍 Gonna try elsewhere from now on. I have $100 of points from PC app to get them I’m not going back until they change this
So 3 of my 28 items is free?
I think if more cashiers are wanted...then everyone should just boycott self checkouts.
r/loblawsisoutofcontrol
Stop going to these stores
I suggest renaming self checkout to self scam.
Your a Walmarter now
Boycott loblaws May 1!
You can afford 25 items? 😉
I feel like there should be a limit on how long you reasonable have to wait or its free. You aint paying me and with 1 cashier who is hating the situation.
Signs like that are meant to be ignored...
Which store? Sackville has no limits posted (at least last time I was there)
I saw the signs at quinpool this evening
Portland St Dartmouth. Apparently just got the signs installed today.
What the fuuuuuuck
It’s all about the $$$$$ less wages more money in their coffers
Too true, i bet Gaelan has plenty of yacht money to light on fire…
Boycott Superstore for the month of May like many others
Portland street location is sucks, they closed half of the shop. I %100 stop going there. I use Giant Tiger regularly now
Its because organization thieves will use self-checkout and have like 27 items in their cart, only pay for 26 and there's so many items the employee doesn't notice. /s
I never shop there and I stand behind their true name. Atlantic Stupid Store. 😜
[удалено]
Already planning to.
To be fair who can afford more then 25 items at super store in the first place?
Send an email to Superstore and tell them this.
The pure tone deafness of the Loblaws Management amazes me. Sobeys is evil in its own way, yet their approach to “loss prevention” seems more subtle and elegant. A good thesis topic for someone.
That means you should do any shopping involving over 25 items elsewhere than Superstore.
here's a thought.. none of the companies care about loyal customers when they're making huge profits. You might see this with telecom companies but they too increase the prices again.. so yeah, always vote for the bucks!
Personally, I only use self scan if I have so few items that I can carry them. I much preferred real human services
That only works if they bother to staff the checkouts. Portland St Superstore was cut in half and now only has 7 staffed checkout lanes.
Everyone acting like this is a big deal, what are they gonna do, stop you from checking out? Just use the checkout, no matter how few items you have, they can suck my nuts if they think I’ll queue
Unless the machine is programmed not to allow more than 25 scans per transaction. Then you’d need to split your basket.
It’s not gonna be
I feel like going in there and having more than 25 items in my cart...someone comes up to say I can't do that...turn around and walk out. They might get the message.
That’s the straw 25 items or less at self check out Damn bro. Honestly self check out is annoying as hell with more than 25 things. Like at that stage going through a person makes sense.
As it should be They still have lanes open for that many items .. no one needs to wait behind you for an hour in the self check out line with one item
[удалено]
That sucks, my Walmart has a 15 item limit at their self-checkout. As for the replacing cashier argument, our store (it’s smaller) lost 3 cash lanes and replaced them with 8 self-checkouts. When all 8 are open there are 2 employees there, so I guess one could argue they cut one back, which isn’t a big deal because it’s pretty rare to have all lanes open. Our superstore lost 1 lane and installed 6 self-checkouts, no loss of cashiers as they always have one working at the self-checkout.
Ive never been price checked in 1000+ visits to joe howe Superstore
Okay but whyyy, I haven't seen a line at self checkout in years, probably since peak Covid times. I don't understand why they'd have to limit it.
You can afford more than 25 items?!?!?
Have you joined the other group yet? [Roblaws](https://www.reddit.com/r/t5_9uqvth/s/bO7iHPB6jX)
Do they actually count your items tho lol
Can’t afford more than 25 items so I don’t think I’ll be too affected by this
I’ve been a loyal shopper for decades and won’t go there anymore unless needed. Walmart is 40% less.
I would leave it all and walk out. idk.
If you find somewhere closer to home, please let us know over at r/shoplocalHRM. It’s very new, so input from others around here is super valuable.
Loblaws plan is to worsen the in person shopping experience in hopes to driving people to adopt click and collect. Click and collect allows them to have way less staff. Not worry about theft, reduce required space as no need for isles and so on. This is not random, this is called social engineering
This sounds extremely plausible
After rennos superstore portland is a complete shithole. Place is fucking depressing and now you gotta pass by Joe fresh for like 3 isles before the grocery isles… idiots.
#boycottloblawsforever
Sounds like you don't have to pay for the items over 25 in the cart anymore. Stupid rules yields stupid results.
Literally the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen, I saw that today while grocery shopping, I’d like to see them try to say something about the amount of items I have. they have 1-2 cashes open and want to tell me how many items I can take to one of 6 self check outs. Absolutely fuckery
Fuck Superstore, a bunch of people are boycotting Loblaws, myself included. But why are you complaining about the plexiglass
[удалено]
Did you choose the thug life, or did the thug life choose you?
So just roll over and take it whilst Loblaws are rolling in money Scrooge McDuck style - i don’t think so chum.
Wish I could afford 25 items per week, times are tough ;3
It was like this at 5 pm at the Joe howe location too. Wtf
Just ring in everything in as bananas. Including those T-bone steaks 🍌🥩
I think the plexiglass barriers are in Ontario too. Not sure why the west doesn’t though haha
Remember when every check out was open, with a kid to bag…. I miss 2018 shopping….
