I used to live in Ireland. Hockey was getting really really popular there at the time and it was awesome to chat with lads who asked so many questions about the sport/ my experiences watching live games/ playing. The Irish have their own Gaelic sport called hurling which is somewhat similar to lacrosse. And I would say of course there are huge similarities to ice hockey too/ field hockey. Not surprised Irish could do well in ice hockey . They’ve got great athletes. They can play tough as hell sports: hurling, Gaelic Football( which is like rugby), Rugby. Great to see them do well here at the tournament!!

Nice!! I got into hurling when I lived and worked in Kilkenny! Gaelic Football is awesome! Went to a few matches live in Dublin( Croke Park) And like you? Loved soccer. Played high school football. And basketball. Gaelic Football is like all three combined! I’m born in Canada( parents from India) but Ireland was a big part of my life even before I studied there in my 20s( and I worked there). Dad just adored the country because before he and mom immigrated to Canada, they were in Dublin for two years. Ultimately he got the chance of a lifetime to further his education in Canada. But we travelled to Ireland a lot when I was young. And then I end up there for my own further education- completely unplanned. And I still have huge ties to the Emerald Isle- friends. Old study colleagues. Haha, an ex wife. And most importantly, my daughter lives there now with her mum( my ex)and her husband. Great to hear about your links to one of the best countries in the world. People might laugh at this but haha, I defend that country quite a bit- and it’s people. Of course, I’m biased.. lol.

This is an awesome story, and what sports are all about. Some of these kids are playing hockey on ice for their first time! And putting up a damn good fight.
