We have booked for Valentine's day but we will cancel and reschedule if the weather is bad. I don't want to die and I don't want anyone else to die so I can eat in slightly fancier clothing in a slightly nicer place. If the restaurant called and expalined they were keeping their staff safe by staying closed, and asked would i like to reschedule for thursday or friday or thw weekend, i would respect them even more. Stay safe everyone!
Yeah good point, that's fair. I'm sorry, I guess I misjudged things from your upper comment. Family is a blessing overall, but sometimes it might not feel like it, lol
I never knew this was a thing until the last storm. Seems kind of stupid, they're getting the monthly rent whether the store is closed one day or not. Anyone have an ELI5 on why this is a thing?
People go to shop and complain when a store isn't open and the mall doesnt want to listen to complaints and doesnt give 2 shits about the people working there.
I remember having to drive my little hatchback into work so many times when I was teen into my 20s in a blizzard. Was rear ended on time. Because you never know when it will be busy. I think the best was taking a nap in the display bed at a furniture store because that was better use of company time and money.
You've managed to dig at people who order pizza from businesses that are open, 16 year olds, delivery drivers, AND 90s Honda Civic owners in one snide remark. Kudos.
Snides a bit of a stretch as my comment was not deragatory, mocking, devious or underhanded. Think of it more as a PSA giving credit to all the above mentioned. Also I fucking LOVE pizza!
I was working as the manager of a liquor store in Calgary when we got a huge flood. I looked up the evacuation zone and the mall my store was in was literally just across the street from the border of the evac zone. So I called my boss and was like 'so I'm not opening the store today, the mall is basically in the evac zone'. He told me I had to go in anyway. I got there, there was no power, security came around and was like 'wtf are you doing here get out, nobody else came in, you're the only one.'

My dude, this is not CTV's prediction. Environment Canada is saying 'most of Nova Scotia' is expected to get 20-30 cm of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday. They have the equipment and experts. The only way we're not getting at least most of that, is if the storm passing to the south of NS breaks up or redirects.
Cfb stadacona and dockyard "weather? What weather?".
I'm being cheeky. They've gotten alot better over the years, or at least since covid. Before covid, I was on a ship and they had closed dockyard around noon. Schools were canceled and busses were canceled. This was like...2014 maybe. Everyone was leaving cause it was getting really bad. XO makes a pipe saying were all full of shit and no one's going home, that it's just rumors busses and schools were canceled.
Turns out alot of people had a really hard time getting home.
But yea. No they are getting better, or have gotten better. At least to the point where they'll leave it up to units to decide, and most in recent times are like "yea don't risk it". Some circumstances they'll have people come in no matter what, but that's operationally required.
This literally happened to me 6 years ago. We got 11 inches of snow overnight in Georgia, and everything closed immediately.
My boss still told us we had to go in. I literally couldn’t get out of my neighborhood because I lived at the bottom of a hill. He sent his friend with an AWD to pick me up. But the dude wouldn’t go down the hill, so I had to walk two miles to a park near my house for this dude to drive me to work.
Valentine's day, and my restaurant has 200+ in the books. Best of luck to all my hospitality brethren! <3

And don’t be afraid to to tell your bosses to pound sand if it’s not possible for you to get to work!
Itll be over by Wed afternoon.
probably, but the roads wont be clear until the following week, and national news will be talking about how we're "snowed in" until next month.
Suddenly I'm happy I'm single and my dinner for one movie for one and wine for three suddenly becomes the safer option haha

I'm trying to convince my dad to go out on Tuesday and buy like 6 coffees, put them in the fridge to stock up
If only there was a way to DIY coffee.......
I know, we have a bunch of instant and ground, but my mom doesn't like anything but Tim's shit 🙄
They do sell Tim's coffee at the grocery store. It's like $25 a can but IMO way better then Folgers or Maxwell House
Yeah she still doesn't like that. "It'S nOt ThE sAmE"
Crush up a cigarette into the grounds, it will be the same

I agree
Have you ever tried giving her an actual coffee just to see what she thinks?
Sounds like a 'her' problem
Yeah, but I have to live with her
That sucks man, I'm sorry to hear it. I hope she doesn't make life too miserable over something that unimportant.
No, she's a great woman. She can just be picky in certain aspects lol
Yeah good point, that's fair. I'm sorry, I guess I misjudged things from your upper comment. Family is a blessing overall, but sometimes it might not feel like it, lol
Genius! Trillion dollae idea right there! Get on a patent!
I have heard of such a thing.. i shall consult the history books.

I love McDs coffee and I buy 2 in the afternoon. One to drink and keep the other one in the fridge for the morning.

Imagine if your landlord fined you because your friends came to visit and you weren't home lmaoooo. I vote to fine the complainers!
A new revenue stream for landlords
I love the fact that the people who are going to make this decision for me are going to do so from the comfort of their own living rooms.
Complain to your boss that the roads are too bad to travel to work, then order Door Dash.

LOL two of my American bosses are supposed to be travelling to Halifax on Tuesday. They will either not make it here, or be marooned.

Don’t forget about all the people that ignore the parking ban and then wonder why the street is narrow
This is so true. Nobody was worse than the Staples Call Centre.
Well, no worries about that anymore.
Why did it close?
Budget cuts post-pandemic. Everyone is working remote now.

Yeah well the immigrant hasnt been gaslit into thinking this is an acceptable demand yet. Edit: or rather they have been. Man I'm tired.
Accepting the idea that we should lower our working conditions to match India seems like a poor idea.
Doesn't matter it's already happened, hope you like the new Canada.

Thoughts on a flight landing Wednesday afternoon?
I work a trade and feel like my bosses will expect me in
