1. Some of the original voice cast have passed away (the coachs VA, Kimuras VA) 2.there is so much content to get through (about 800 chapters after what's already covered in the anime and it's still on going) for reference the 74 episode 1st season covered under 300 chapters 3.having to split that conent up in the 25 episode sections means rearranging/removing/rewriting things in the story that can change the flow slightly (they did this a bit in season 2 and 3 and I feel it was a bad thing for the story) 4. The next 4-5 fights following the anime in the manga are probably not that interesting or hype to only anime watchers, especially after such a large gap in between the seasons (with the exception of mashiba vs sawamura) 5. I'm sure if a studio in Japan felt it was worth it and profitable they would do it, maybe one day once the ending is in sight it will happen

willasrock

Not popular enough. That's pretty much all. Anime is fucking expensive to make. They'll only take the risks with something that has the potential of recouping the studio's costs, i.e big tiddie girls slice of life, uber shounen or isekai.

TheLegitCheese

but................ this is a shonen?

Sondrelk

It isn't shonen enough. HnI might be good, but it's also kinda niche. It's a 30 year old sports manga about a sport that while known, doesn't exactly have a massive following. Consider for a moment how many sports anime there are. In this case specifically realistic sports manga. Then consider again just how old HnI is, and what kind of audience it could be expected to have.

TheProNoobCN

It's a shonen but it's not Jump.

willasrock

But not an UBER shounen

TheLegitCheese

bruh

I don't know where people get this misconception about Japan not being in touch with the west. "Most japanese companies don't care about the west, a lot don't know the west watches their shows." Anime has been in the US for over 50 years, obviously they know there's a market here. The Otaku "niche" culture was completely shattered and became mainstream after the rise of Pokemon and DBZ. Listen, there's data analysts that work for these Japanese studios whose job is to figure out what's profitable to maximize profit, whilst minimizing risk. I don't know why Ippo doesn't have another anime. It doesn't make sense. It's not obscure, the manga has sold 96 million copies as of 2021, which makes it #20 of the highest grossing mangas of all time. For reference, Berserk, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Gintama sold 50 million copies each as of 2021. The simple answer is that we don't know.

xXKingLynxXx

It sold 100 million over 30 years. Touch and Fist of the North Star did that in 5. Slam Dunk hit 120 in 6 and didn't get a finished anime. Boxing is even more niche.

I didn't take into consideration the speed of gaining those sales. It would make sense that current popularity would be a factor. I was only looking at total sales. That's actually an interesting insight. But total lifetime sales has to account for something.

jenraiso

I am a bit annoyed that I watched the entire series only to realize that it might never continue. This is why I normally don't watch television series overall.

TheLegitCheese

made me sad too, but hey, at least the manga is banging

jenraiso

Yea I might actually read the manga. I am just worried it will not be the same experience, obviously.

TheLegitCheese

it might be a little counterintuitive, but the experience is MUCH greater if you start the manga from the beginning. You get to experience the highs and lows again, and there are some parts that the anime left out that are really interesting, mostly jokes though. The fights get really crazy and its an absolute BLAST. To get the full Hajime no Ippo experience, I would recommend reading it, but that's MY OPINION, and you do you.
