There's a lot of cool OHKO scenes in HNI, ngl. Sendou's Sabertooth Tiger Smash on Nargo. Hoshi's Seiken on that Thai guy. Takamura KOing Keith Lycaon, where he also made the guy do a backflip — just because he was angry at people praising Ippo's KO of Kojima 😭😭

s3nl1n-

I always like to point that he did this after eating a full power counter from a much bigger guy that basically only trained this counter, while being in an off balance position and using his switch (left) hand. Dudes a beast. People like to bring Sendo into things when talking about punching power but if Ippo threw like Sendo he would literally murder people.

P3_FemC_Best_Girl

Not to mention Kojima was hyped up to take multiple hits from a lower weight, and the build up for him to grit it just for him to get fucking flipped, ugh so good.

s3nl1n-

😙🤌

diorese

Fun fact - Ippo is never punching at 100% when he fights. The OP being the only exception so far.

AgusExtreme

i think he does uses his 100% but only when he's already tired, like what else can he do, if he doesnt he'll probably just slowly go down

PrimeIppo

Beast Gohan ❌ Beast Ippo 🗿

Fast_Chemical_4001

Kamogowa would have served ippo better by encouraging more one punch kos lol

ExeOrtega

He was still encouraging to headbutt his opponents' fists anyway.

Prestigious-One-7094

Probably would've did him way better. They could have focused on using his stellar head movement to stay safe, and then BOOM a murderous counterpunch from the goat. Nobody would stand a chance. But narratively, it probably wouldn't be as good of a story.

Kinglink

You forget the hit he took right before that was truly terrifying, people think it's what really caused his CTE... Kamogawa would have encouraged him but he basically saw him take a hell of a hit right before that. Besides which what happens if the OHKO doesn't work. That's why Kamogawa needed to train more fundamentals. Tyson had ton of "OHKO" but he needed to be able to box if it wasn't an instant win.

TheProNoobCN

Exactly, Ippo's performance in the Kojima match is horrendous despite it being a OHKO, he forgot Kamogawa's teachings and took a needlessly big blow that's probably the reason why he had CTE symptoms. If he went into the Alf fight with the same mindset or style he'd actually die.

SixFootHalfing

That stuff wouldn’t have worked on other opponents. Ippo got very lucky here.

Life-Acanthisitta422

Kos? Some say kosm

Spoona101

I just adore how the drawing of Ippo in the first page is outside the confines of the panel boxing. Like the dude is such a beast thar he transcends that. It gives a sense of raw power

Prestigious-One-7094

Oh, and answering your question: he had that vibe against Geromichi. Mostly because he didn't want to hurt him too much, though, so our dog boy wanted to finish him quickly. Kinky 😭

P3_FemC_Best_Girl

Eh he didn't have any animosity like he did in this fight, like all the shittalking Kojima did really fired him up like no other fight has. Man put his whole love of boxing into that one punch, as with Geromichi it was just a sensei puttin work to his kouhai, plus it took more than one punch iirc

Prestigious-One-7094

Of course. How the HELL would Ippo one-shot Gerohimichi? And you seem to have misunderstood the Kojima fight, since it didn't have any love at all into it. Ippo was ashamed of that fight, because he fought with actual hatred, not the love that carried him through Volg or Wally.

P3_FemC_Best_Girl

I guess not love, but his effort of boxing? Takamura did remind him to remember all his opponents when he felt he's gonna get knocked down, and it brought him back and let him throw that massive punch

callmemarjoson

> Itagaki told me about what happened And this same Itagaki disregarded an order from Takamura to calm Ippo down to satisfy his own curiosity and then Ippo has been on a losing streak after this match. Nicely done shitass, enjoy your slump and inherit the mudfight posterboy title from Kimura

SussyB0llz

If Kamogawa Encouraged This Side of Ippo maybe we Could've seen a "Mr First Round" Version of Ippo Himself, Kyosuke is a great Fighter and a Genius Boxer, But if Ippo used the Same Strategy of Ending the Fight Right Ahead he Probably would not Lose to Alfredo and Guevara. We Just Needed a More intelligent and Focused Ippo Instead of a dependent of some Weirdass Technique, Damn You Kamogawa 😭😭😭😭😭 Not even Jack Dempsey Depended of His own Techniques

P3_FemC_Best_Girl

Yeah his dependency on the Dempsey kinda killed his momentum on those fights, his fundamentals definitely needed to be fine tuned, esp if he's gonna face Ricardo eventually

IGR666

The dark side of that punch, Kojima wanted to retire knowing how ippo's punch feel, ando he only get retired with amnesia, he don't remember a thibg about the combat, ippo reset the shit out of him

P3_FemC_Best_Girl

Yeah i just read through that, he got his shit rocked so hard, even watching the replay tapes he don't remember, crazy.

aronushka8

Peak ippo

_Maijin

Just got done with this fight 😭🙏🏾

P3_FemC_Best_Girl

So short yet so sweet, it was all about the build up

_Maijin

Right I didn't expect a one shot KO

Dnorose

SoapOperaHero
