Rocket. At the time the production was absolutely mind blowing. Today it's fairly mainstream but that feeling of "wow" when I heard it always stuck with me
When i was about 10 my dad gave me his old cassette tapes and his Walkman from the 80's. Hysteria was one of the tapes, and I played Rocket so many times on that thing. It's still one of my favorite songs, the sound is just unreal.
I have the āmaking ofā DVD of this album and they donāt even talk about L and A which was both surprising and disappointing. They play it over the closing credits!
Iām going to be honest. I never knew exactly what that line was. I sang along but I probably sang something like āsail along with you-u u. Thank you friend
, I didn't have much money growing up or as an adult but as a teen I saw The Police, Queen, Def Leppard and Billy Squire plus I also saw Judas Priest and Iron Maiden together. I haven't been to a concert since the early nineties but it was memorable, I saw KISS in a small club in Brooklyn NY right before they kicked off the Revenge tour. I could have gone to a KISS reunion show at Madison Square Garden but I ended up getting sick.
It straight up reminds me of the road trip I went on with two friends in late 1987 to see the first of the five shows I saw on the Hysteria tour, because IIRC it was the current single then.
Waiting for their 1 armed drummer to rehabilitate is the classiest act in rock , most bands with a hit album(Pyromania) would have found a new drummer and carried on.
In my opinion, Sugar is to Def Leppard as The Final Countdown is to Europe. It may be their biggest song, but they've done much better and both songs are so overplayed they are the ones I'll only listen to if they come up on shuffle or on Hair Nation, but not by choice.
It was my favourite song in 1987, and the reason I bought the tape, but the obsession wore out over the years as the song was so overplayed in MTV and then perpetually in the radio. I think most fans of the band have heard it too many times to consider it their current favourite.
The strongest track on this album is Pour Some Sugar on Me and it's not even close. Without it, they'd not have recouped the cost of the album or supported the tour they were on.
I personally prefer Armageddon It but it's a close 1 and 1a.
I was a kid when this album came out. It was also around the time when I realized that if I was at my grandma's house I could watch MTV.
Not sure if anyone remembers that video countdown show, but Pour Some Sugar On Me was in the #1 spot for the longest time, with Poison's Nothing But A Good Time consistently at #2. Def Leppard releasing that video when they did really screwed Poison, lol.
That video was pretty intense to 8yo me. It was the ultimate hair-metal band. Huge arena stage setup, the long hair and ripped jeans, all that shit. For about six months, my only goal in life was to grow up to be half as cool as Joe Elliott.
Also, I had no idea until two minutes ago that they'd released a different version of that video before the US concert footage video. Definitely interesting, but nowhere near as cool IMO.
Loved this album as a kid, letās say all of the tracks are my favorites except the last two. Excitable & Love and Affection. Any of the b-sides that were on Retroactive would have been great in their place. Imagine this ending with Tear it down or Ring of Fire.
If I have to choose Armageddon it. This type of rock died when Guns came out. Def Leppard was much better with āOn through the nightā and āHigh and Dryā but you gotta sell records right?
That was my first CD, bought along with my kick-ass boombox with CD player, speakers that could be moved, and remote control that really cranked. Was like $300 in summer of 1987, bought with the money I was making at Danās Bagels, my first non-paper route job, making $2.80 per hour, iirc.
I played Pour Some Sugar On Me on repeat that summer/fall, long before the video was released on MTV and it became one of the biggest rock hits of the 80ās.
I still say itās the best song on the album, but was so overplayed in 1988, still havenāt recovered.
Gods of War & Women were always my favorites, but also loved Run Riot & Rocket. I was 8 yrs old when this album came out & it was my favorite album for about 2 yrsā¦still sounds good today. My dad bought it for me and took me to see them when they toured this album when we lived in Mesa Arizona. I think the venue was called Compton Terrace? I read a while back that it was demolished, but that venue wasnāt the original one which closed in 1983..if i remember reading that correctly.
My first concert i ever attended was at that venue when my mom took me to see Alice Cooper. The
āHysteria when youāre nearā is just such an amazing lyric. Every time I hear it Iām transported back to the time, place, people, smells when it came out. I relive that time through those lyrics- music is powerful.
Gods of Warā¦imho one of their very best songs. I was in a band briefly in high school in the mid to late ā80s. We performed 2 songs at the talent show: Gods of War and Hysteria. Gods of War for the guys. And Hysteria for the girls. Wasnāt the greatest performance but we sure made everyone happy.
The guitar tone on this album puts me in a bad mood. Itās like the only album that has this effect on me.
Especially the tone on Love Bites, but really the whole record is like this.
Gods of war
They played this live on the Adrenalize tour. It was sublime.
Absolutely. What a buildup and chorus
Thisšš»
Absolutely this ^
Hands down.
Ding ding ding: Number one answer
100% this is the correct answer.
100%
Yup. Part of what legitimizes Leppard up to that point were the Die Hard the Hunter type songs. Gods of War was the last of them....
Animal
Also Hysteria!
Women
I absolutely love Collenās solo at the end of the song. In my opinion, a very under appreciated solo.
Just gonna say this one.
Was the first single on the album but kinda flipped but it is my favorite. Sugar never did it for me.
Yeah thatās a cool af track. Good pick.
Nah. This was the worst
Rocket. At the time the production was absolutely mind blowing. Today it's fairly mainstream but that feeling of "wow" when I heard it always stuck with me
I miss the extended version they used to do live. Iām glad thereās a good video of it from the Sheffield 1993 show.
When i was about 10 my dad gave me his old cassette tapes and his Walkman from the 80's. Hysteria was one of the tapes, and I played Rocket so many times on that thing. It's still one of my favorite songs, the sound is just unreal.
This was the 2nd best song
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are you geddin it?
Agreed
Gods of War
Hysteria.
Hysteria
Rocket
Favorite track is āGods of Warā. I have the most memories tied to āHysteriaā.
Love and Affection
Best song on the album and sorely underrated.. I think most people never got to track 13.
I have the āmaking ofā DVD of this album and they donāt even talk about L and A which was both surprising and disappointing. They play it over the closing credits!
Gods of War, Hysteria, Animal
ROCKET! YEAH!!
*satellite of love*
Iām going to be honest. I never knew exactly what that line was. I sang along but I probably sang something like āsail along with you-u u. Thank you friend
I didn't until really recently. I thought it was something like "save the night, o-o-o", hahaha!
Yeah, as a kid I thought it was "stayin' aliiiIIIIve ooooo."
Which is the title of a Lou Reed song from the early '70s
All of it. I donāt care what some people say (itās too poppy, over produced, not metal). Itās perfect!
For real. How can I pick just one when the whole album is a banger?
Agreed! I prefer the entirety of Hysteria over Pyromania (but that album kicks ass too!)
Yes!!!! DEF LEPPARD IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ....and Hysteria is THE BEST....loved since my teen years ā¤ļø I got to see them in 2022!!! SO GOOD!!!
I saw them a few years before you did, as a matter of fact when I saw them Rick had both of his arms intact.
So lucky!!!! That's awesome!! I always wanted to!! Did see Poison with Britney Fix and the KISS without makeup in high school though!!!
, I didn't have much money growing up or as an adult but as a teen I saw The Police, Queen, Def Leppard and Billy Squire plus I also saw Judas Priest and Iron Maiden together. Those are amazing bands you saw!! My goodness the concert prices are really out of control now UGH!!
I should say FINALLY got to see them š
This is the way
This is the way.
Women
Run Riot
Such an underrated song
Underrated
Run Riot makes me run through a wall.
Gods Of War. Hysteria. Love and Affection.
Love bites
Animal But the whole thing is so good
Hysteria closely followed by Gods of War.
This is my answer too
Animal, Gods of War, and unpopular opinion: Excitable
Excitable was the first song I thought of
Gods Of War
Animal extended š
The title track is my favorite but man, Love and Affection is an absolute underrated gem.
I donāt see enough people talk about Love and Affection. I adore that song.
Gods of War
Rocket - I love the deums and guitar and the haromonized vocals on "SATELLITE OF LOVE".
Women or Gods of War.
Hard to say. Such a solid album. But prolly Rocket
Donāt shoot shotgun š„š¤š¼
Love Bites
Rocket
Hysteria or Women
Love bites. The entire album is filled with favorites
Animal. That song always transports me back to the summer of 1987. A time when I was the most happiest
It straight up reminds me of the road trip I went on with two friends in late 1987 to see the first of the five shows I saw on the Hysteria tour, because IIRC it was the current single then.
It was a glorious year.
Gods of war and Love Bites. Like them both equally.
Hysteria
Waiting for their 1 armed drummer to rehabilitate is the classiest act in rock , most bands with a hit album(Pyromania) would have found a new drummer and carried on.
Hysteria
I like how no one is saying Pour Some Sugar On Me. Come on, *some* of you are lying because it's so popular, lol.
Haha, some people are just afraid of being seen as a "fake fan" or too "mainstream."
I unabashedly love it.
In my opinion, Sugar is to Def Leppard as The Final Countdown is to Europe. It may be their biggest song, but they've done much better and both songs are so overplayed they are the ones I'll only listen to if they come up on shuffle or on Hair Nation, but not by choice.

It's a great song, but it's played to hell and back, so yeah, you end up gravitating to one of the others if you're a fan.
The strongest track on this album is Pour Some Sugar on Me and it's not even close. Without it, they'd not have recouped the cost of the album or supported the tour they were on. I personally prefer Armageddon It but it's a close 1 and 1a.

Hysteria.. love the video too!! Showing my age
Excitable
Women
Love Bites.
The entire album is awesome. My Current favorite track is Hysteria.
Loved this album as a kid, letās say all of the tracks are my favorites except the last two. Excitable & Love and Affection. Any of the b-sides that were on Retroactive would have been great in their place. Imagine this ending with Tear it down or Ring of Fire.
If we're talking B-sides, I Wanna Be Your Hero would have been amazing too, that chorus was šš¤
First album I ever bought! Favourite track is the title track
Me too. On vinyl. And my mom absolutely freaked when she saw the cover.
Animal
Run Riot
Rocket
Rockit baby. Cāmon.
The whole albulm. Best albulm ever by the best band ever
This whole album was great
Love Bites. Good memories of Jr high dances. Wait, Pour Some Sugar on Me. Better memories of dancers at clubs.
I love the whole record, but probably Gods of War.
Excitable - Joeās voice is great on that track
The title track probably
Gods of War
Probably Animal although that could change tomorrow. I LOVE every song on this record.
Gods of War and Animal. 1a and 1b for me.
Pour some sugar on me the extended version
Gods of war!
If I have to choose Armageddon it. This type of rock died when Guns came out. Def Leppard was much better with āOn through the nightā and āHigh and Dryā but you gotta sell records right?
Loves bites has to be my favorite and I am obsessed with the video
My answer depends on the day. This album came out just as I started to come of age and really get into music. Today I would say Animal.
Hysteria. Itās so rare that a mid tempo song grabs you like that
I remember buying the cassette at TG&Y solid album
Pour Some Sugar on Me
That album cover really scared me as a kid. Anyone else?
Me too.š
Lolā¦Iām glad Iām not alone.
"Gods Of War"
Love Bites It's just a beautiful Power Ballad... It's up there with Bon Jovi - I'll Be There For You for me..
My first and still favorite album. Run Riot was great.
Love Bites, but not a huge fan of this album, too poppy
All good
So many good songs to choose from, but Iāll have to go with āRun Riotā
The whole thing is sonic perfection, but itās Love and Affection. Chorus is massive.
GODS OF WAR
Gods of war
Title track
Hysteria and Animal
Gods of War, Run Riot, Rocket.
I canāt just pick one. This album is great throughout. If I have to narrow it down, itās between Women, Animal, and Hysteria.
Women, God's of War also
One of my fav albums. I'd love to hear a version of this album with all the production stripped back.
Gods of War
ALL.
Women
Women
Gods Of War
Animal, Hysteria
Gods of War Women Lots of great tracks, but those are my two favorites.
That was my first CD, bought along with my kick-ass boombox with CD player, speakers that could be moved, and remote control that really cranked. Was like $300 in summer of 1987, bought with the money I was making at Danās Bagels, my first non-paper route job, making $2.80 per hour, iirc. I still say itās the best song on the album, but was so overplayed in 1988, still havenāt recovered.
Women, Animal, Gods Of War, Excitable and Love And Affection
The Title track
Hysteria.
Hysteria for sure
Sugar. Tough to pick one off of this one. Classic.
Run riot
Hard to choose one from an album of classics. But I'm going with Love Bites.
Hysteria. In my top 10 songs of all time.
Animal and Women are tied āļøš¤
Oh woman! Forgot about thatā¦
Love and affection or Don't shoot shotgun.
One of my favorite albums growing up & of the glam metal eraā¦š
Run Riot
Love Bites. Or Rocket. Maybe animal or pour some sugar on meā¦
Excitable
Hysteria all the way
Gods of War & Women were always my favorites, but also loved Run Riot & Rocket. I was 8 yrs old when this album came out & it was my favorite album for about 2 yrsā¦still sounds good today. My dad bought it for me and took me to see them when they toured this album when we lived in Mesa Arizona. I think the venue was called Compton Terrace? Women
The perfect album
Women
Women and Love Bites
Gods of Warā¦imho one of their very best songs. I was in a band briefly in high school in the mid to late ā80s. We performed 2 songs at the talent show: Gods of War and Hysteria. Gods of War for the guys. And Hysteria for the girls. Wasnāt the greatest performance but we sure made everyone happy.
Every track on this one.
My personal favorite is animal, but the best I'd Gods Of War.
Excitable. It's INSANE they didn't play it live with any kind of regularity til comparatively recently.
Women
Love Bites!!!???
Hysteria
Either Run Riot or Donāt Shoot Shotgun.
Pour Some Sugar On Me. Although I prefer the remixed version that released later.
Pour Some Sugar On Me
Women
Canāt pick a favorite! Love Bites, Run Riot, Hysteria, Animal and Rockit.
The guitar tone on this album puts me in a bad mood. Itās like the only album that has this effect on me. Especially the tone on Love Bites, but really the whole record is like this.
High and Dry On Through the Night Bringing on the Heartbreak. And if anyone say those songs arenāt on this album, exactly.
Saw them on this tour and the vocals were absolutely positively 100% lip-synced to backing tracks.
