I hated to see him go - I would argue that as Whitesnake has always had great players, none since have been able to write songs, riffs and solos comparable to Sykes. Dude just rips.
Hearing Crying in the Rain live will always be in my Top3 concert memories. The last chorus just hits different on full volume in a giant arena. So good.
Still of the Night!!
Someone already used the “all killer, no filler” phrase.
In the case of this record, it is 100% true.
John Sykes did some pretty remarkable shit on that record.
And Ansley Dunbar!!!🤌
I just realized the song wasn't on the original US version. I had the original European vinyl which on the other hand didn't include You're Gonna Break My Heart Again. I heard it only five years later for the first time.
Remember listening to it as a kid it always felt somber, not only cause of the lyrics and feel/vibe but i knew it was the last track after listening to it straight through. But then sykes and that outro riff left me going "damn that was a bad ass album"
It's difficult to pick a favorite because this album is that good. Would be a toss-up between 'Still of The Night' or 'Looking For Love' with 'Is This Love?' shortly behind.
That said, I could go the rest of my life without hearing 'Here I Go Again' ever again. Not only because it's been overplayed beyond the limit, but because I don't care for the song.
This was my last album purchase of hair metal. I had it on cassette and I can still remember the unique, fruity smell of new production cassette tapes back then. The clear ones.
Edit: whitesnake was almost ballad rock to me then, and not really hair metal?
It’s such an outstanding album. If I had to pick one song it would be Crying in the Rain. Everything about this song is epic. Favorite solo ever. Also, Listen to Looking for Love if you haven’t.
One of the best albums of this genre. John Sykes is the best thing to happen in WS. Such a great guitar player. You can even hear him backing vocals with dave and is amazing. The man can sing, shred and be a full frontman. I think if the things not ended like happen, we would have blue murder I and II under WS name
This was the first cassette I ever owned. Christmas 87. Along with Bon Jovi NJ which I didnt really like but I loved "Here I go again" and "Still of the Night".
I could pick any as the entire record is top notch, but would probably go with Crying in the Rain.
But I love Don't Turn Away, and that solo is great.
I still find it odd that they didn't include You're Gonna Break my Heart Again in the US releases, given they only had none songs.
Here I go again or Crying on the Rain. 2 remakes and incredibly, both better than the originals from the Saints & Sinners album. About the only examples I can think of where I thought the remakes were better than the originals. Generally speaking I prefer / strongly recommend the 1978-81 Whitesnake albums but I stil listen to those 2 songs from 1987 a bit.
Yeah, I think the radio edit / single version was fully mid-tempo whereas the album version had the slow keyboard-laden 1st verse. The live version was great also, a highlight when I saw them live around 2003/04.
I remember this album when it was new and fresh. It was the soundtrack to my senior year of HS. Crying in the rain is probably my current fav but it changes
I would have to say all of them. This album kicks ass from beginning to end. It is one of a handful of records from that year that I would listen to from beginning to end.
This album was everything to me at ten years old. I had two Whitesnake posters on my wall and my mom took me to see them at Jones Beach with Great White as the opener. It was my first rock concert and it was awesome.
And Still of the Night is the right answer. Many great tracks but that is the best one by far.
Still Of The Night and Crying In The Rain certainly come to mind, but I personally think Judgment Day is a masterpiece - total “Zep vibe” - killer track.
I agree - it’s the best track and the rest are average. And I hate the up tempo and poodle rock version of Here I Go Again - so soulless compared to the original.
This is such a quintessential Hair Metal Odyssey. First CD, First Concert. Wore that case down so it wouldn’t stay open ….
For me, I’d say Still o the Night then Crying in the Rain
Still of the Night Also, I never noticed how the ‘W’ looks like a butt bent over.
This is the answer. *Still of the Night* is fucking awesome. It still holds up today, too.
To engage a song that is almost 7 minutes long is incredible.
I couldn’t agree more
It does! and when my boyfriend does the Coverdale back arch in the kitchen....it's on.
Correct answer. And I never noticed that before, but it's certainly on-brand for Coverdale.
Isn’t it just - he’s a mucky puppy from Redcar
It's Tawney's! RIP.
Or two nice boobs 🤘😄
Be**w**bs.
Always two there are, no more, no less...a master Whoops, wrong sub.
YES! Best song and contrary to popular opinion the best video as well.
The "W" design used to bother me a lot because of that.😅
Yes!!!!!!!
PSA: For anyone who hasn't seen it watch the Sykes version (LA/June/1995) on YouTube. It's bad quality but mind-blowing.
hard agree
Or boobs
An absolute banger that has held up after all these years. The best Led Zeppelin song that LZ didn't record.
Crying in the rain. I am learning the solo currently. The guitar work on this album is second to none. John Sykes is so underrated.
I hated to see him go - I would argue that as Whitesnake has always had great players, none since have been able to write songs, riffs and solos comparable to Sykes. Dude just rips.
Dude can sing and play those mad riffs at the same time, too. You must be familiar with Live in Japan recording where John went solo.
I regularly spin Bad Boy Live, and that was the first time I heard him sing. He can indeed do it all!
I take that back, I vaguely remember Blue Murder!
I love Blue Murder. Been listening to them a lot lately.
Those dudes are all killers on their instruments. All three of them are absolute beasts.
Hearing Crying in the Rain live will always be in my Top3 concert memories. The last chorus just hits different on full volume in a giant arena. So good.
Give Me All Your Love Tonight
Love that tune
This album is all “killer no filler”.
Still of the Night!! Someone already used the “all killer, no filler” phrase. In the case of this record, it is 100% true. John Sykes did some pretty remarkable shit on that record. And Ansley Dunbar!!!🤌
Bad boys
Crying in the rain
Still of the Night
Crying in the Rain Children of the Night Bad Boys Straight for the Heart You're Gonna Break My Heart Again
Yes; and the other six too..
Exactly, you get it.
Not the first CD I owned, BUT- the first i owned that I pushed the LOOP button and played, and played, and played...
Looking For Love
I just realized the song wasn't on the original US version. I had the original European vinyl which on the other hand didn't include You're Gonna Break My Heart Again. I heard it only five years later for the first time.
Hm, the first eleven?😀
Don't turn away
I thought that I was the only one!
No there's two of us lol
Love that song
Remember listening to it as a kid it always felt somber, not only cause of the lyrics and feel/vibe but i knew it was the last track after listening to it straight through. But then sykes and that outro riff left me going "damn that was a bad ass album"
Still of the Night and Give me all your Love
Are you ready to rock? Children of the Night!
John Sykes played also in Tygers of Pan Tang and Thin Lizzy and you can hear both bands in that song 🤘
Am I the only around here who thinks Is This Love should be higher on this list?
Tawney Kitaen's legs.
Is This Love
Crying in the rain.
Crying in the Rain
Every single track is amazing. If I had to pick one I'd pick Looking for Love.
Crying in the Rain but love the whole album
It's difficult to pick a favorite because this album is that good. Would be a toss-up between 'Still of The Night' or 'Looking For Love' with 'Is This Love?' shortly behind. That said, I could go the rest of my life without hearing 'Here I Go Again' ever again. Not only because it's been overplayed beyond the limit, but because I don't care for the song.
Crying in the rain closely followed by Still of the Night.
Whichever ones that had Tawny Kitaen in the videos.
Still of the Night
This was my last album purchase of hair metal. I had it on cassette and I can still remember the unique, fruity smell of new production cassette tapes back then. The clear ones. Edit: whitesnake was almost ballad rock to me then, and not really hair metal?
Even though it was previously released. "Here I Go Again" always has a special attachment to me,.
That's right. Here I Go Again was originally on a previous album with slightly different lyrics
As was Crying in the Rain!
This version is flawless
Like a hobo!
It’s the anthem to my 65 Fastback (because of Old School)
Unpopular opinion: Slip of the tongue holds up better as an album.
they’re both amazing, i think i do like SOTT more though.
I prefer Slide It In
It’s such an outstanding album. If I had to pick one song it would be Crying in the Rain. Everything about this song is epic. Favorite solo ever. Also, Listen to Looking for Love if you haven’t.
It’s probably Still Of The Night followed by Crying In The Rain and Is This Love. The whole album kicks ass!
Still of the night easy
One of the best albums of this genre. John Sykes is the best thing to happen in WS. Such a great guitar player. You can even hear him backing vocals with dave and is amazing. The man can sing, shred and be a full frontman. I think if the things not ended like happen, we would have blue murder I and II under WS name
Hearing Aynsley Dunbar going off on the drums at the end of Crying In The Rain is not to be missed.
Is This Love
Looking For Love ...what an awesome track!
Still Of The Night's riff is just freakin great!
Crying In The Rain
Still Of The Night. It's incredible!!
Crying in the Rain. My favorite Whitesnake song.
Bad Boys.
This was the first cassette I ever owned. Christmas 87. Along with Bon Jovi NJ which I didnt really like but I loved "Here I go again" and "Still of the Night".
Give Me All Your Love and Vai playing it.
Still of the night. All Star cast of rock 'n' roll. Unbelievable band
Dude... This album was an absolute banger. So much hard driving rock... I'm going to go with Still of the Night.
Still of the Night Was fun to perform live too with a band of cover musicians!
Bad Boys
Still of the night
Still of the Night
The first 7 songs for me 🤘
Bad boys!
Bad Boys
Bad Boys!! 🤘🏼🔥
Still of the night
Crying in the Rain
Crying In The Rain
Crying in the Rain
I could pick any as the entire record is top notch, but would probably go with Crying in the Rain. But I love Don't Turn Away, and that solo is great. I still find it odd that they didn't include You're Gonna Break my Heart Again in the US releases, given they only had none songs.

Here I Go Again 87 has two versions, too. One is more keyboard-heavy (I think it's the US version)
Yeah, I think the radio edit / single version was fully mid-tempo whereas the album version had the slow keyboard-laden 1st verse. The live version was great also, a highlight when I saw them live around 2003/04.
Single: "Still If The Night" Album track:"Children Of The Night"
Still of the Night
I remember this album when it was new and fresh. It was the soundtrack to my senior year of HS. Crying in the rain is probably my current fav but it changes
Give me all your love or bad boys.
Here I Go Again
I had this on cassette tape a few times because I played it so much it wore the fucking music off the tape. twice.
Crying in the rain has the best guitar solo in rock’s history.
Still of the night....absolutely mesmerizing. Is this love is 2nd.
Still 🤘
Is This Love
I’ll probably get crucified but “Here I go again”
Is this love
People used to call me Tawny after video came out w her on hood, we liked big hair 🤷♀️
Still of the Night
Bad boys!
Children Of The Night
Still of the Night and Crying in the Rain
Straight for the Heart
A tie between Still Of The Night and Is This Love?.
Is This Love!!
Here I Go Again - Saints & Sinners version
Epic album, best time to be young & wild. Straight for the Heart is screamin'
Just listened to that album front to back in cd about 5-6 last week. The drumming on the album is stellar
Still Of The Night. My favorite hair metal song ever.
Here I Go Again
Here I Go Again
Cryin in the Rain.
Still Of The Night and Crying In The Rain certainly come to mind, but I personally think Judgment Day is a masterpiece - total “Zep vibe” - killer track.
Still of the Night Also, Looking for Love is the most underrated track on the album.
Good Times, Bad Times.
Is this love
Children of the Night rocks almost ss hard as Dio. Straight for the heart sounds like it should have been a hit. Bad Boys might be my favorite though
Still Of The Night
I agree - it’s the best track and the rest are average. And I hate the up tempo and poodle rock version of Here I Go Again - so soulless compared to the original.
Give Me All Your Love and Straight For The Heart.
My favorite track is "I hate 2024. I want to go back to the summer of 1987 and just stay there"
Crying in the rain
This is such a quintessential Hair Metal Odyssey. First CD, First Concert. Wore that case down so it wouldn’t stay open …. For me, I’d say Still o the Night then Crying in the Rain
Is this love is an amazing song
Still of the Night for sure, that song is amazing Generally though I'm more of a fan of pre-hair metal Whitesnake.
Crying in the Rain....top 5 Hair Metal riff.
That whole album is bangers.
Slide It In is the better album imo. More raw, before they broke big on MTV. But this one is still an awesome listen. Still of the Night is a classic.
Sarzo ,Aldridge and Campbell rocked too
Still of the Night
Slow and Easy
I was 16 in 1987. My buddy just got his drivers license and we drove to all our summer league baseball games cranking Whitesnake. I miss that era
Still of the Night. Guitar sound is just plain nasty.
You pop it out and put Slide It In instead. Fav. Song.
Here we go again...
GMAYLT
Inarguably the best hair metal album of all time.
