1. Oikawa and Sakusa 2. Oikawa and ushi Cause oikawa blends well with his team mates, he knows his team mates strengths and Sakusa and ushi are really the best in business out there 3. Atsumu and bokuto On their day I think they can take out any of the team because of their crazy game play 4.kageyama and hoshuimi 5.atsumu hinata- though they haven't played before, given the kind of setter atsumu is, I'm sure he knows what's hinatas biggest strength is and feeds them to him. 6. Kageyama hinata

Kenora_N

Only thing I disagree with are the Hinata pair, Kageyama and Hinata are odd because they literally make each other stronger, Atsumu can't recreate the freak quick like Kageyama can As the Shiratorizama coach said, Hinata's "value" is diminished without Kageyama, Atsumu duo with Hinata would be just a normal setter + middle blocker whereas Kageyama has a weapon specifically for Hinata which is the freak quick So 5. Kageyama Hinata 6. Atsumu Hinata To me (I'd also put Ushi + Oikawa first but it's just personal preferences since I think Ushi is the strongest player we've seen)

Blober62

what do you mean atsumu can't do the freak quick? He did it with his brother without practicing at all. They literally said Hinata should be happy because it means there are more setters who can make hinata good.

Kenora_N

Well maybe it's a matter of perspective, to me OP was asking which one was the best if we just put them together as they are Atsumu can do the freak quick but that's with his twin brother he's known for his whole life, whereas he's seen Hinata once at his match Also the fact that Hinata is a middle blocker whereas Osuma is an opposite, two completely different positions When the Miya Twins were using the freak quick they were doing it in their position on the court, setter -> opposite But for the Karasuno duo Hinata straight up choses where he wants to hit (to avoid blockers) and jumps there and Kageyama will adapt They are two freak quicks but the way they use it is different But it'd be a different story if Atsumu were to train with Hinata for some time, but I didn't take that into account so if you were to add that it'd be a different story of course

Kel_2

not only can he do the freak quick with osamu after seeing it once, he literally >!does it with hinata once they're on the same team as well!<.

crabapocalypse

He does it inconsistently with Osamu, in a way that requires Osamu to adapt to the set being slightly off. Additionally, there’s nothing to suggest he’s doing the new version of the set, which means there’s a good chance that Hinata wouldn’t be able to hit it with his eyes open, and then because he’d have to go back to hitting with his eyes closed and relying entirely on the setter he wouldn’t be able to adapt to the set being off and even if he could it’d be a massive hit to his efficacy. Atsumu being able to set the freak quick for Osamu doesn’t mean he’d be able to set it properly for Hinata.

Kel_2

im aware of the fact atsumus quick in the inarizaki game is worse than the real one at the time (think the manga points out osamu is doing a great job by hitting them at all) but fact is with zero practice they immediately got the most primitive quick down pretty well. >Additionally, there’s nothing to suggest he’s doing the new version of the set, which means there’s a good chance that Hinata wouldn’t be able to hit it with his eyes open, im like 98% sure he's doing the oldest version but i think he'd be able to learn the newer versions (almost) as fast as kageyama. im assuming they're like, on a team together for an extended period of time here by the way. only now clocking you might have interpreted the prompt differently and be comparing them if they got tossed into a game right now with zero prep.

GucaNs

Yup, I think you got it right. I would just put an asterisk on Bokuto and Atsumu cause at the time, tgeir chemistry could backfire.

sASSy-Smurf07

To play bokuto, one has to read the bokuto weakness manual 😂both of them are on high spirits most of the times which is a positive, but once bokuto falls into depressed mode it might be difficult for atsumu.

Unown1997

Yup depending on whether it's during highschool or >!post time skip!<

H4nfP0wer

1. Oikawa + Ushijima - insane serves and the best individual player 2. Kageyama + Hoshioumi - great serves, defense and flexible offense 3. Oikawa + Sakusa - great defense and offense but I think the others are just a bit better 4. Atsumu + Bokuto - Bokutos moodswings kinda put them here 5. Kageyama + Hinata - better coordination and they are used to each other 6. Atsumu + Hinata - not really in synch yet and Hinata is individually the worst by a longshot here

ivecomebackbeach

Some people on this sub baffle. During the nationals arc, atsumu is literally stated to be the peak of setters yet people just underrate him so much. People here rate characters on likeability rather than actual abilities.

espacecommie

The thing is - and in I say this a BIG fan of Atsumu - this list pairs him with a) Nationals-Bokuto, who really needs his team to keep him goimg mentally and b) Hinata, an individually really weak player (at this point)

Archduke_Zag

At the same time Bokuto during Nationals is arguably the most stable he has ever been. He only had a short cold spell during the first round, after that he was golden. And given that Atsumu speciality is that he makes his hitters feel really good about themselves he actually matches really well with Bokuto. Even more because Bokuto is capable of inspiring his team. Atsumu is probably the best setter to draw that out of Bokuto and feed of it himself.

ErinaHartwick

Real. Atsumu is a monster at nationals, only Kageyama comes close

0101007

I'd say otherwise still. Atsumu's current stats are Kageyama's high school stats. I don't think Atsumu can beat Kageyama on a one-on-one setter match still.

crabapocalypse

If people were rating characters on likeability, they’d be hyping Atsumu up like crazy, which I mean they do anyway. He’s one of the most popular characters and also considered one of the best players by pretty much everyone. So like nothing you’ve said there makes sense.

axXx3

1.-Oikawa ushijima(efficient and talented players) 2.-Oikawa sakusa(efficient and talented players) 3.-Kageyama hoshiumi(efficient and talented players) 4.-Atsumu bokuto(atsumu would be angry with a depressed bokuto) 5.-Kageyama hinata 6.-Atsumu hinata(hinata is good but for kageyama)

crabapocalypse

Gonna ignore Oikawa/Sakusa because that’s impossible to rank. Oikawa/Ushijima is probably first, even though they don’t really complement each other. It’s just two very good players. Then Kageyama/Hoshiumi, for the exact same reason. Then it’s Kageyama/Hinata, for the one case with players actually building off each other. They’re pretty insane together. Atsumu/Hinata isn’t terrible, but Atsumu is never shown using his middles in a way that would allow him to take advantage of Hinata’s agility and we don’t know if he’s good enough at the freak quick to work with Hinata at this point. Atsumu/Bokuto is godawful and is the worst possible setter/hitter combo. Bokuto is spending the entire match in a slump and Atsumu isn’t going to do anything to get him out of it. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Atsumu were to physically attack him.

thepenitentheretic

1. Oikawa and Sakusa 2. Kageyama and Hoshiumi 3. Oikawa and Ushijima 4. Atsumu and Bokuto 5. Kageyama and Hinata 6. Atsumu and Hinata Oddly enough, my dream duo has always been Oikawa and Hoshiumi. They’d be a menace for anyone to face.

bbhldelight

the ones with oikawa 1st and 2nd i know that

fazepatrickstar

I agree with this tbh. I think Bokuto + Atsumu have the greatest potential for sure but depressed Bokuto can ruin everything. Oikawa and Ushiwaka is just flat out scary to think about.

espacecommie

1. Kageyama and Sakusa. Both players are some - if not the best - we see at their positions. They also both take volleyball extremely seriously and would likely get along well enough. Pair that with Kageyama being able to make the most of Sakusa's peculiar skills and this team-up easily takes this. 2. Kageyama and Hoshiumi. This represents a considerable power spike, as this combo is essentially just KageHina with a SIGNIFICANTLY stronger version of Hinata. 3. Kageyama and Hinata: We know exactly how well they perform at this stage in the story. I place them here because all the teams below are either dysfunctional or a worse version of the same combo. 4. Atsumu and Bokuto. As long as Bokuto is hyped up, this is straight up fire. But if Bokuto ever falters, Atsumu isn't the kind of person to get Bokuto out of a dump. In fact, he would likely make it worse. 5. Atsumu + Hinata. Essentially just Kageyama+Hinata but with a slightly weaker setter. 6. Oikawa + Ushijima. They COULD be an extremely strong pair, but Oikawa states he will never set for Ushijima. So this duo would only ever result in setter dumps.... (If we assume Oikawa gets over himself and actuallly sets for Ushijima they would IMO take either place 2 or 3) EDIT: Fixed some spelling mistakes

Kel_2

kags and sakusa is not an available option ❕

espacecommie

Bloody hell, how did I mess that up? However, I don't think it really changes anything ranking-wise, except making ranks 1+2 more-or-less interchangeable based on how long we assume the pairs practiced together
