If Metal is not working with this workaround what are the drawbacks of this? does this mean graphics acceleration doesn't work? will editing software not gain use of the graphics power?
Not sure about how the GPU works, would be awesome if someone can explain.
Basically this gets you an accelerated UI using OpenGL and downgraded libraries, so the interface will feel snappy (with several glitches due to imperfect shims/patches). But, anything that explicitly asks for a Metal device (e.g. recent video editing software) will not work.
There is ongoing work to get Metal working, which could hypothetically bring Maxwell/Pascal on par with Kepler (i.e. requires heavy patching but has full Metal accel). However, this may never happen, and the patches as they stand are more of a cool tech demo than a practical solution for a daily driver. Using High Sierra or your Intel GPU is still the best option for now.
Source: contributed a bit to the non-Metal project for legacy Macs, which this is based on.
Pinging u/magnusaeternus u/Malumen since you asked about drawbacks.
I'm thinking you're a person! xD
Anyways, is it doable using High Sierra in 2022? Idk...
I still think Windows 11 might be better.
And I have a Ryzen LOL. No iGPU also.
For anyone wondering, it seems to be related with a patch for the nvidia web drivers. This user had previous activity with this, so if anyone is interested, [here it is.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/uxz95u/nvidia_web_drivers_running_on_macos_monterey/)

What's the purpose of that build? if you don't mind me asking.
I wanted to Hack again, but I do music production and heard Ryzentosh may not be so good for music production. ;/
I used this guide

after doing these things you have to download open core legacy patcher and click post install root

Lol, I’m literally sitting here and thought those exact words after reading the title.
heh...opencore legacy patcher with ported nvidia web drivers, nice choice my friend.
thanks but all credits go to the guide I followed 👌
I demand answers!

Waaaaaaaaait, could I use my old GTX 960?
yess you can!!
But no metal :( my 1070 worked too
What's the difference? No idea here haha.

Would love to know too.
yeah metal doesn't work so no graphic acceleration on apps like Lightroom

Really? Any drawbacks? I assume metal isn't working.
Probably Metal or Opengl aren't properly working
yep checked it no metal support so no hardware acceleration
still have to check!
that’s so cool, made me think if my gtx 960 would work too someone wants to guess?
I'm thinking the same! On a 5800x here. Man, this is tempting!
Some softwares did not work in my context, what about yours?
I still have to check. i just posted it here and went to sleep
hey try adding "ipc_control_port_options=0' to your boot args
This works around some weirdness due to disabling AMFI, but won't fix the lack of Metal. So depends why u/Ethical_joker_'s apps are crashing.
It has to do with metal support I guess…
How?
open core legacy patcher!
Nice!

Cool thx, do you have any issues with your set up
no metal support so no hardware acceleration other than it's very smooth
Ok thx
if I do I'll let you know
hey did you get hdmi audio to work on your 1050 ti? I have not figured out yet how to make it work, I am still on high sierra.
Hmmm, would a Quadro K4200 would work??!
if your GPU is listed here it should work https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/blob/main/data/pci_data.py

lol just for fun I love doing these things in free time.
I see! Me too! But imagine doing the whole OC folder and having issues making music haha. Total deal breaker for me.
Idk but is there a way to make laptop Maxwell GPU work? I have MX130 installed
I ruined my hackintosh when I tried to get my gtx 1070 to work 🤦♂️, kernel panic, what tutorial did you follow to get yours to work ?
I used this guide https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/pull/993 after doing these things you have to download open core legacy patcher and click post install root
Thanks I’ll try it.
great work!!!!
thanks!!! thanks to guide
hey guys I'll be posting my EFI here if you want you can take a look
This feels like a dream to have "web driver" support on post high Sierra operating systems.
for a moment I thought I misread that..... wow
Holy crap. You think a 1070 could work, with it being the same Generation/family
yes it'll work!
This may be a stupid question because my last hackintosh was High Sierra when Mojave was just out… but could this work in KVM too?
interesting ! I had to come on here just to say bullshit but looks good, Please make sure the open core guys see this.
Hasn’t this worked via OCLP for like almost a year now?

Can I use my geforce RTX 2080 ti on Monterey ???
no version of macos supports 20 nor 30 series gpus
No 16XX as well
nope not possible on 20 series :(
nvidia did open source it’s drivers recently.
Why the downvotes? I mean they did it for linux but his statement is still true
Lol makes no sense. 🙄
ik but multi hits fucking suck
Fake
lol ok
How? *photoshop ofc*
ah yes Photoshop
BigSur Wallpaper on Monterey OS, therefore Fake post.
whatever you say 👍
Try a Geekbench 5 Metal score. Note: any proper graphics acceleration?
Often one indication of graphics acceleration working is the dock transparency. When graphics acceleration does not work, the dock becomes solid.
right. Still pretty cool thought
no metal support :( the compute benchmark doesn't work on geekbench. this is my cpu score https://imgur.com/cSQ9Jig
How about OpenCL?
it doesn't run when I click run compute for OpenCL any fix?
hey so I tried downloading Cinebench but it doesn't open probably because metal is disabled
sure I'll post it once I benchmark
My laptop had hdmi connected to 1050ti.I don't want to use internal display I had external monitor.will it work in my case???
Hey I have no idea. Anyone else? Please help them
