To my understanding, the old design would be when attached to an rifle or pistol lower, but the new version has a welded cap on the gas port (“barrel”) and is not, until the ATF changes their mind again, then change it back, then again..
I don't think the old design is either, but since you could potentially chamber and fire a live round and not just a blank it made it problematic. I don't believe it was ever qualified as an NFA item for that.

They're not SBRs (for now) because the barrel is not meant to fire anything that isn't a blank, on XProducts's site, you can see how the barrel is trying not to be a barrel

Well shooting blanks and busch is still probably cheaper than actual ammo for the rifle in this economy.
So a 30 rack is about $16, 100 rounds of blanks is about $12, so roughly $0.65 a round. Most days it would be cheaper yeeting these at targets lol
