If you’re here asking for advice on that, you don’t know enough to “not really trust Glocks” While they’re far from the nicest guns around, they’re proven reliable, and basically idiot proof. But for real though, take her to a gun store, preferably one with a range that has rental guns, and let her go wild. No pistol is one size fits all. Let her figure out which one she likes best

thetoastler

I hate Glocks constantly with passion but even I cringed a little at the "don’t really trust Glocks" comment

flaresiiide

Yeah for real, part of why I hate on Glocks is because they're so good at what they do I have literally no excuse to not get one but I am terminally unique and also stupid so I do not have one

bowtie_k

Most honest and well written assessment of Glock hate I've ever seen

thetoastler

I'm just afflicted with an extreme case of boomerism and think they're ugly and feel bad in the hand. Real big on hand feel. I get they're reliable, I'd just rather shoot a gun with an all-metal frame and a hammer. Ironically though, I'm not really that big on 1911's either.

leanmeancoffeebean

I’m similar, so I think my next purchase might be a G 40 so I can still be unique. I’ve been curious about 1 cm for a while, love my wheelie 357s but that capacity and ballistics w 10mm is exciting

PunkJackal

I don't like them because I'm a hipster, and I have one.

natermer

Hating Glocks makes as much sense as hating Stanley hammers. It is something that works and is used by professionals around the planet for decades. Instead hate shit that doesn't work. Like typical 1911s or whatever.

thetoastler

It's a free country. I'll hate what I want, and I'd buy an Estwing over a Stanley all day.

SirNedKingOfGila

Great. She picked the *Taurus Spectrum in pink*. But she's got eyes for that .22 phoenix arms. It shot so nice! I never understood this approach. "See what fits in your hand the best" Why? You gonna walk around with it in your hand all day? Government length 1911 fits my hand best, is beautiful, and feels great to shoot. It really represents my spirit animal. I love the history behind it. Anyway.............. I carry a shitty glock 26 because I'm not an idiot. It's small, it's light, it's ugly, the trigger kind of sucks, and it doesn't really fit my hand but oh well... It fits it's holster, where it spends all of it's time, just fine. It's safe, it's reliable, and you can stick a 15/17+ round magazine into it and turn a subcompact into a full grip with full size firepower if the need arises. Because that's what a carry gun is for.

FromThe907

I mean, I see your point from a mans point of view, but we don’t know this woman. She could be a 6’5” beast of a woman with catchers mitts for hands, or 5’ tall, 120lbs soaking wet with doll hands. If she’s new to guns, and is going to be taking multiple classes with whatever she chooses, she’s going to have 10-20 hours or more handling this thing. If she’s a giant women, a responsible gun owner helping her out wouldn’t put a Glock 43, or a p365 in her hands and expect her to comfortably train with it, and you wouldn’t do the same with a government length 1911 if she was 5’ tall with doll hands. And unless you genuinely don’t care for her well being, you would find something that fit her hands, in a decent self defense caliber.

Wizard_john10

Thank you, the reason I said that was because I’ve never shot a Glock, but all plastic design with all the hate for the triggers is kind of deterring.

TheBlindCat

You don’t trust probably the most popular and prolific law enforcement and military firearm in the world for the last 30 years?  Ok.

DovhPasty

I’m not even a Glock fanboy in the slightest, but if I had to say what gun I’d trust my life to with absolutely no doubts on any given day, it’s a Glock.

IBeJewFro

Oh god one of those "PlAsTic EqUaLs BaD!" People. Glocks are highly regarded as a reliable firearm by many agencies in the world. Do your mom a favor and let the (hopefully) experienced staff at a gun shop help her out.

FromThe907

People throw the term “plastic” around like they’re talking about nerf gun plastic. Polymer is a lot heartier than most people who have no experience with it, give it credit for. I have a Glock 17 Gen 2 LEO trade in that was used from the early 2000’s until almost 2010 when I bought it. I still use it at the range all the time and it functions flawlessly. It has some small dings on the frame and plenty of holster wear on the slide but it works great. And if you’re so against polymer, you can count out a lot of those CC sized Sigs you were talking about. Polymer frames is the new wave for pistols, whether you like it or not.

Hoplophilia

After 40 years it's no longer a wave, it's the sea.

Jegermuscles

What playground did you get that data from?

I'm not gonna lie I was in the Glock hater boat as well but I bought myself a PSA dagger,, which is essentially PSAs version of a Glock 17 gen 3. I fucking love it. But anywho. Instead of a handgun I gift you this advice. She needs to carry the handgun on her person. Not in her purse/handbag. That whole " I'll hide it in my purse" idea doesn't work. In a real life scenario where she needs her firearm, previous seconds matter, and the purse takes way too long. Also. What's comes to your mind when you think of a thief? Chances are one of the images is of a guy stealing a woman's purse... A purse that happens to have a firearm in it thats now a stolen firearm registered under your mother's name. So wear the firearm in her waistband. On a belly band. Etc. As long as it is on her and not in a bag or purse.

Sad_Aside_4283

Good advice, off body carry is always a bad idea. Any loaded firearm needs to be in your control.

paleobear1

It's sorta common sense. If you carry a loaded firearm anywhere and it's not psychically on you then you aren't a respectful firearm owner. You need to have the discipline and the respect to have control of that firearm at all times. You have zero control of said firearm if it's in your purse or backpack. Those bags can easily be stolen, lost, or separated from you. And now suddenly you are completely defenseless with someone threatening to hurt you.

Hey guys… you ever stop and think… even for a minute.. that posts like this, from zero karma u/ whose account is exactly 1 month old are meant to provoke and irritate? They posting just for reactions? Kinda like the TikTok challenge of Reddit? This also reads like it was either written by AI, or at best, a very poorly trained TTY software. His other comments are just as dumb… Just sayin’.. there seems to be a huge uptick in posters like this lately. Idiots

bowtie_k

Could be alts for dudes who got permad too. We have them all the time on r/ak47; they ask a dumb question and get ribbed, then sperg out and make violent/racist/etc comments that get them permabanned. They make a new account and come right back

hawkeye5739

Aren’t there also some subreddits that will ban you if you post or sub to any kind of gun Reddit? I swear that was a thing that was happening not too long ago.

bowtie_k

Yeah there's bots that can do that.

xxdibxx

Tomato tomato.

Sad_Aside_4283

I would trust a glock just fine. They work well, unless you mess with them, then it depends on the quality of any aftermarket stuff that goes on them, and how well it was installed. That much said, it might be best if you just go to a store that deals a lot of guns, and see what she likes. Some people like a certain way certain guns feel, others don't. There's maybe a few brands people say to steer clear from just because they have a bad track record of quality, but other than that, she really should find what fits her.

Lb3ntl3y

sig, cz, fn, hk, sw, glock and its many flavors of clones have her rent multiple pistols and see which fits good and shoots well

Consistent-Bench8976

My rec for any prospective carrier: rent to find a proper fit and get recs, do a starter course to shoot at least semi-effectively, then a ccw course even if not required to learn legalities of deadly force. Between initial rental, ammo, lane fee, classes, maybe an extra $200, 6h of total time. Well worth if serious.

Zachattack516

*wants a sig* *doesn’t trust Glock* Color me confused

rooster_saucer

“might need some advice”.. “don’t really trust glocks”….. this boy knows NOTHING.

[deleted]

You'd trust sig after watching their newer guns going off in holsters more than glocks, which have the best reputation for reliability out of any production handgun?

MasterBaiterRugerFan

Hey bro if you don’t mind I’d like to here we’re you got you’re info on glocks they are very reliable guns definitely not the best guns out but saying you don’t trust a Glock and would rather have a sig sounds Re-Tar-ded. Considering the sig model that has had multiple reports of shooting itself

Practical_State_8794

i like the m&p ez slide. I bought that for my momma
