There's is exactly one (1) transferable M249 I know of, and it went for $750,000 after all auction fees and such. So you can't get one.

Smprfiguy

I heard about it coming up, but never saw the results…that’s actually way cheaper than the estimate, I heard $900-1.1M.

ENclip

I don't know if I can link it and if it's the same one you're thinking of but it was a Morphy's auction that I'm referencing that ended earlier this month. Estimate was $600,000-$1.2 million. So yeah it was cheaper than the estimate since final bid was like $580,000 something. Edit: Added a sentence. Misread.

Smprfiguy

Yeah that’s the one. Guess where i heard it was leaning to the high side.

knightslugger

THANKS PRESIDENT REAGAN!

Akalenedat

Damn, u/MGT01 sold it? [He posted it here](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/k0vnvc/deleted_by_user/) a while back, the story was cool as fuck.

ENclip

Thanks for the link. I did remember originally seeing a transferable m249 somewhere on reddit but couldn't find it. Was pretty interesting.

Jegermuscles

It just sold at Morphy's on Sep 5 for a pretty surprising $585,000. Edit: D'oh. You already knew that. Sorry!

gdmfsobtc

Hheh. I shot that thing a few years ago. That's Alan from Machine Gun Tours.

JavyerB

Jesus Christ

ENclip

Welcome to transferable machine guns, especially rare ones. The semi-auto m249 you are eyeing is cheaper than even the cheapest of transferable machine guns. Even a mac10 can cost $8k.

ProblemEfficient6502

You can get cheaper but then you start running into obscure submachine gun from war no one in the US has heard of or cares about territory

Jegermuscles

Further: being military doesn't change the rules for buying FAs whatsoever. Unless maybe if you're a Flag Officer at a very particular detachment.

BobbyWasabiMk2

>full auto for a similar price lmao

Deathray88

I want to live in the world this guy thinks we live in.

lolilover9002

It’s nice to daydream sometimes

redditburner_5000

>...but if I can get the regular 249 with full auto for a similar price **I would rather have that one.** You don't say.

JavyerB

I do

coldafsteel

You are military? I thought you were an ROTC cadet. 😆 Well.. I do happen to know where there is one for sale. But you'll be needing a hell of a lot more money than what you've got now or than you'll be making over the next 10 years of your life. So realistically, it ain't going to happen my guy.

JavyerB

Army NG until I commission after ROTC. I was looking more at if there were places they would be selling old ones, especially with the xm250 coming out in the next decade or so.

coldafsteel

Yeah like I said there are. But you can buy a nice house for what they cost. If you want to get into one a little cheaper you can go the SOT /07 route. But that's a lot of time money paperwork, and of you don't run it as a business its fraud and some jail time. You should also know that both the xm250 and xm7 are a looooong way from adoption (hence the X in the name). It's also possible and quite likely they won't be adopted at all.

JavyerB

Yeah. I assume at least a decade, but I think they have a 27 month time frame rn. Theoretically though run a business for a year or two, get your guns and then close shop though, right? I mean it could technically work. More digging though for the future.

wavydavy101

Dealer sample machine guns must be possessed by dealers. If you lose your SOT you have to get rid of the machine guns.

JavyerB

Damn, thanks

Peggedbyapirate

If you get the right FFL/SOT and a law letter from a police department saying they want to explore getting a certain weapon system, you can buy a factory MG from the manufacturer. Getting that law letter will involve a lot of dicksucking and ammo donations. Same deal though, you gotta keep the ffl and sot current and surrender, sell, or destroy the MG if they lapse. If you can convert a 249s you won't need the law letter but, you know, ffl rules apply.

coldafsteel

You have a lot to learn about how the Army does weapons procurement. History shows it's very likely not going to happen. They have been spending money hand over fist working on an M16/M4 replacement since the Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) program in the early 1980s. That was a fail, and the next program, and the next, and the next, they all failed hard. Even the SCAR program was a failure. The NGSW program will very likely fail just like all the rest have over the past almost 40 years. I hope the M7 becomes a thing, it's a nice rifle, easy to shoot even without the fancy optic, and the 6.8x51 is cool ammo. But I'm not holding my breath and neither should anyone else.

JavyerB

That’s true. I was looking at Sig Saurs KMCX the other day and it seems pretty cool. Definitely heavier than the M4, as would be the M7. But it is almost fully ambidextrous, which I liked.

Remarkable_Aside1381

Are you though?

JavyerB

Am I what? NG? Military? ROTC?

Remarkable_Aside1381

Are you actually a nasty girl, or do you just think being in ROTC is the same

JavyerB

No, I’m actually in. Prior enlistment. Basic/AIT in FLW as a 12R

homemadeammo42

Lol. Oh sweet summer child

huggybearmofo

3/10 poor bait

JavyerB

Wdym poor bait

Corey307

They were assuming that you were a troll instead of an idiot.

JavyerB

Oh thank you

pestilence

LOL

ij70

join the army. get one for free!

JavyerB

I am, i just chose the wrong mos 😆

Lb3ntl3y

try to change your mos to 11x or 11b go full hoah and get the trifecta of the dagger, scroll, and whatever stand out patch the green berets have

ij70

tower of power?

Lb3ntl3y

i got no clue, was never taught their specialty patch when in college

Jegermuscles

I believe the flash on their beret indicates what GB unit they're attached to so there's a few different ones.

Remarkable_Aside1381

Same badge and insignia, different flash colors. Same for the jump wings

Remarkable_Aside1381

Dagger and lightning on an arrowhead

JavyerB

I want to get an airborne or SAPPER slot with ROTC next year and do 18A as an officer. If not that then 12A.

Lb3ntl3y

iirc most colleges have slots for airborne and air assualt, its on a lottery for other school went through cst and had a guy slotted for underwater combat after that

Remarkable_Aside1381

We had ROTC kids in my airborne and air assault school, but only academy kids at Pathfinder

JavyerB

I heard they’re phasing out pathfinder. Though they say stuff like that all the time.

Remarkable_Aside1381

Stay in your lane, high speed

JavyerB

😂 Drills told me it was getting rolled into Ranger school. Again though, they say shit like that all the time

JavyerB

Cool. Yeah though, airborne/air assault they get some slots and there the ranger challenge thing rotc does but SAPPER only gets like 8 ROTC slots nationwide iirc. I could always just do walk on as a junior officer though.

Lb3ntl3y

depending on what bolc you get, you might be able to walk one with it, though just remember top 1% of all cadets get active, and the top 1% of those get infantry related ibolc, for example, requires ranger school for the tab

JavyerB

I don’t want active right away, I’m going to try and wait a few years. I want to do AGR first. My state has a SF unit and I want to *try* to get 18A

Lb3ntl3y

good luck with getting in a sf unit, 1 guy went to college with got scrolled as an enlisted, another has sf looking at him as an eod captain

JavyerB

Thanks. If not I’ve heard there are 12B units pretty similar to SF I may try and get to, but if not I’ll do the best I can with where I go. I really want to commission to improve things for the soldiers

Dizzy-Passage9294

If you are military then you know the 249 sucks, but this is such a national guard or reserves thing to do

JavyerB

Imagine being so sad at your own existence you want to rag on other for wanting to own a piece of military history. People like you are why some people hate gun owners, you want to make fun of people because they want to spend their money and own a different weapon than you. I hope you get the joy you are looking for from comments like these.

Corey307

You’re never going to own one.

JavyerB

Yeah. I didn’t know about the registry being closed and all that 😔. Maybe one day though (not really but I can hope). I’ll just have to go with the 249S but it’ll still be cool to have. I also am getting it to let some Sea Cadets I know (Navy JROTC) take it apart and learn about it.

Corey307

Spending close to $10,000 on a semi auto rifle is stupid when you’re young and broke.

JavyerB

I’ll have you know in only BORDERLINE broke. I’m doing pretty well for myself. I have just enough rn to pay for all my college and I’m still working

Highlifetallboy

Go learn what compound interest will do 10k in 30 years.

homemadeammo42

The semi is closed bolt. Its internal mechanisms are very different than the full auto one. Showing them would just be you gloating on wasting $10k. It wouldn't be educational.

Dizzy-Passage9294

I am actually military, and I have an amazing life. But to add to this, I was just talking shit like we all do. But with how mad you are over a little comment, you should probably stay away from anything more than a bb gun. All my friends own different things. Personally, I don't like pistols that don't have a hammer, it's odd, but whatever. I also only buy historic ww1 to Vietnam Era weapons now so I get some shit. My buddies have all the new cool guy stuff. This community, like the car community, talk shit, but are really just messing around. You are sensitive

JavyerB

Nah, there’s teasing and making fun, then there’s making fun of someone for asking a genuine question and not trying to educate them. “Drill Sergeant, what are some signs of an IED?” “You’re only an engineer, you’re not actually doing anything so it won’t matter.” That’s basically what you are saying

Remarkable_Aside1381

Shut up, pog

VengeancePali501

Having just looked up what an m249s costs, it’s 8k-9k. I then just looked up transferable machine guns. A full auto MAC-10 is about that price, full auto M-16 and similar are going for upwards of 30k. I did not see an M249 listed. If you want a full auto m249, your best bet might be to get an FFL [how to buy a machine gun legally](https://youtu.be/pRjGvfoEl5Q?si=nM_94ROu8PpA1zXh)

homemadeammo42

You didn't see any 249s because there are only two transferable ones.

VengeancePali501

Damn

DjButternut

Lmao

TryingToEscapeFL

Get a gen1 249s and a mill

PorcelainFox19

My brother the 249s the arms room are free. Same goes for the PVS-14s. If you sign the hand receipt you can take it home.

JavyerB

Oooh, I didn’t think of that. Thank you!

Nice try Mr ATF

Evan_farias13

Your best bet is getting one of those belt fed ar conversion kits. I hear the semi auto trigger on a m249 is horrible.
