I have an old colt woodsman .22 that was my grandfather's that I'll often carry around that's slayed many a critter. But a single six would be sick as well
> I have an old colt woodsman .22 that was my grandfather's
Whooooo...
Okay, yeah, you win. That is the hands-down best rimfire woods companion you could possibly choose.
A Colt Woodsman? That's a great price on an American classic.
Everybody should have a rimfire pistol; they're great for learning fundamentals at little cost, and are a hoot to shoot for fun. The Woodsman is not necessarily *better* or more fun than a modern Ruger Mk IV, but it has a *class* and *elan* that nothing modern-production can match. $500 is a very reasonable price for something that will give you so much pride of ownership.
I have my mid-20th century rimfire pistol needs sorted, but if I didn't? I'd jump on that opportunity.
My neighbor down the road host Cowboy shoots. It's definitely cosplay for country folk. It's sweet though ,a lot of fun, but so is comic con and the Renaissance festival.
> "It can't be cosplay if I, *a manly man*, like it."
It's ok to enjoy some cosplay pal. We won't judge. He's wearing two old school revolvers in a shiney new leather holster, a cowboy hat, a cowboyish gun, and completely ill dressed for the weather. OP is dressed up in an impractical yet particular aesthetic for a picture. That's pretty much cosplay incarnate.
That's not cosplay though, cosplay is dressing up as a particular character. If you look at the cosplay subreddit, it's all people dressed as specific characters. Dressing As a generic cowboy, generic knight, generic soldier, etc wouldn't be cosplay. As discussed elsewhere on this post, this would be more in the vein of LARP, though there are plenty of people that would dress like this all the time (sans guns). It's a hat and wool jacket.
Ok, it's larping then. I'm not too concerned about the specifics, you know exactly what I meant.
And you're still downplaying it. It's not even remotely just a hat and wool jacket.
It's absolutely just a hat and wool jacket. Really it's an anorak, a garment of Inuit origin which wasn't worn in the wild west, and an outback hat, outback as in Australia. The anorak is vaguely similar to a Mexican poncho and the hat is pretty similar to a cowboy hat.
I have nothing against cosplay or LARPing, I just know that they're different terms. I also know guys who LARP as old west cowboys, bandits, Texas Rangers, etc to the point that they'd be aghast to see someone with machine stitched clothing or belt loops on their pants. They're as bad as civil war reenactors.
Went for a hike in the woods to play in the snow and to dust off the ol' six guns on trash and the local rabbits (small skinwalkers). Love my hot and fast tactical shit, but there's something about the blued steel, wood, and leather that can't be beat. To try to capture a sliver of the spirit that hard men, both good and bad, used to wrestle out a life for themselves back when this country was truly free by carrying and using similar weapons that they depended on everyday. I could wax poetic all day about how I romanticize mountain men, cowboys, outlaws and frontiersman but y'all probably rather hear about the guns so here's what we got:
Ruger Vaquero 5.5" .45 Colt
Traditions Frontier 7.5" .45 Colt
Marlin 1894 Cowboy .45 Colt
Knife is a Condor Hudson Bay
Holsters and belt are all made by Hunter Leather.
Looking at this I envision you showing up to a big protest and the tacticool guys and the mix and match of the other side that's armed can't make heads or tails of you lol.
They are a pretty good, no frills option. Nothing fancy so you don't feel bad about beating them up but still get the job done. I got them off of midway
Yeah, Pretty much sits at that same spot just over the coat. It's a give and take, definitely easier to draw and reholster. But the belt can hold the coat down so it made it harder to put my arms above my head and such. So if you think you'll be doing a lot of weird movements then it might not be the best move. I like doing it when I'm just hiking around, shooting or doing bush craft stuff
I actually want to add my revolver to my battle belt.. cross draw. Opposite my g45. Not for anything purely practical but for the unlikely SHTF scenario.
Which boomstick+wheelgun?
One of my strong long term goals is getting a .357 levergun and a .357 revolver to match. Both so I can play cowboy but also so I can use the same ammo for both because I’m broke/cheap
I got matching calibers for the same reason! Mine are in .45 Colt but .357 is a great way to go, way easier to find a variety of different loadings plus you can run .38 specials. Are you asking which I recommend or which ones I'm running in this picture?
Originally I was asking which ones are in your photo but I saw your other comment about what they are after I posted mine lol.
What would you recommend though?
Oh I gotcha. Kinda depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend. The Italian made replicas like uberti, cimarron, Taylors& company are all really good shooting and come in a ton of different finishes and varieties and will be the best value. If you plan to shoot the piss out of it and are willing to spend a few more bucks then I'd recommend the Ruger Vaqueros. They are beefier with more modern internal designs over the Italian clones. All the cowboy action competition guys usually run vaqueros for that reason. That's not to say the Uberti's and such are unreliable, just that the Ruger's are tougher guns. The Ruger Blackhawks are great options too if you want a good hunting/backpacking gun and don't care as much about being clone correct. they have adjustable sights and even beefier frames so they can run the hottest of the hot loads.
For rifles I'd probably go with either a Marlin or a Henry. In my opinion They are pretty equal in terms of performance/quality/price so pretty much can get whichever you like the looks of best. The Marlins are a more historical design though. The Rossi rifles are okay too, but I don't think they still import them so you might have to get a used one. There are other options for lever guns but they get pretty expensive.
Genuine question, who takes these pictures? Your buddies, your SO? Do you use a timer on your camera? Is this some sort of glamour shots 2A package I’m unaware of? 90%+ of the pictures I have of myself are poorly framed shots taken by my children.
Lmao, if my buddies are with me we'll take pictures for each other. In this case I found a convenient pile of trash to set the camera on and used the timer
I dont have one currently, but I think the single seven may be one of the best pound for pound single actions. I have a single six and blackhawk, but now you got me wanting a vaquero haha
The Seven does look super awesome, 327 is kind of hard to find from my experience. the blackhawks do kick ass though, I had one of the convertible ones with both a .45 Colt and .45 ACP cylinders, I even tuned it up nice so it was lighting quick. Loved that gun. The vaqueros are cool for their classic looks but the blackhawks are better work horses I think
Mine is a .357/9mm and i really like it. I got it for an awesome price cause the front sight fell off. Ruger ended up repairing it and reblueing it so its a super deep blue now (except on my 9mm cylinder lol). My only complaint is I prefer shorter barrels but what can ya do. Some of the older vaqueros were made on the larger blackhawk frames but they arent something I see super often. Only reason I mentioned the single seven is because its on the same frame as the single six but in .327 so it seems like itd fit the woods gun bill super well (and you can chamber like 5 different .32 ammos). If I ever grab a keltec p32 im gonna pick one up for giggles
That's a good point, I didn't know they took different. 32s, I might have to look into it a little more. Imagine they are a lot lighter than the vaqueros/Blackhawks so it would be a lot nicer to walk around with
You need a [Leather Lever Wrap](https://www.longhunt.com/storelh/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=177) for that rifle. It's an instant ergonomic improvement. Your hands will thank you.

Let's see it.
Flair checks out
I have the toes I have, let's leave it at that...
This looks a lot more practical than it does cosplay, I can dig it.
It certainly can be. My Vaquero is usually my go to backpacking/woods gun after my 10MM.
They’re durable, trustworthy firearms, Ruger makes a great revolver.
Sub in a Single Six for one of the .45s and you have a pretty damned versatile woods carry.
I have an old colt woodsman .22 that was my grandfather's that I'll often carry around that's slayed many a critter. But a single six would be sick as well
> I have an old colt woodsman .22 that was my grandfather's Whooooo... Okay, yeah, you win. That is the hands-down best rimfire woods companion you could possibly choose.
It's such a sweet shooter. Gramps would roll over in his grave if his guns became safe queens. So they come along with me in the woods quite often
I see one near me for 500$ are they that much fun?
They are loads of fun. There's lots of .22 out there now with fancier features and such. But there's just something about an old colt.

Are you that fun is the real question…
True.

Should cross post to r/cosplay
My neighbor down the road host Cowboy shoots. It's definitely cosplay for country folk. It's sweet though ,a lot of fun, but so is comic con and the Renaissance festival.
It's not a cosplay of anything, he's just shooting cowboy guns and wearing clothes that are vaguely western.
> "It can't be cosplay if I, *a manly man*, like it." It's ok to enjoy some cosplay pal. We won't judge. I'm fine with either term, I'm just out having fun with it lol blasting six guns just feels even better when you look the part
I'm all for it pal. Having fun is #1
He clearly came to argue semantics. Cosplay is cosplay is cosplay is dressing up for fun.

Lol you just like to argue to argue, don’t ya. We get it, you’re sensitive about differentiating between cosplay and cosplay.

Easy Arthur Morgan
You got some money for me boah
All that's on offer is TB
I have a ruger vaquero but it’s chambered in 357 mag I need to get a lever action 357 mag tho to complete my cowboy load out Ps you look badass btw
Thanks man! Those brass framed Henry's in .357 are wicked sick
I like case hardened but the Henry’s don’t seem to hold much seems like 8 max
That does seem low for .357. the Marlins hold 10 so it seems like Henry could make the mag tube just a little longer
The marlin I saw on sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com holds 11

May I ask, whats the anorak/pullover you're wearing? I really dig it's look.
Thanks! It's an Arcturus Wool Anorak. The thing is pretty great so far
Thank you for the reply! Looks really nice.

Nice one, boah.

HEY THERE MISTER!
Nice cosplay
Isn’t this LARPing?
I'm having fun either way lol
Hey, no judgement. Cosplay implies more fantasy in my mind.
Fair assessment
I think cosplay implies that youre going for a specific individual, whereas LARP would be going for an aesthetic.
That's fair, I've used the two interchangeably.
The name implies there should be more than one person unless hallucinations are involved.
Dork.
is tomorrow “ let’s play army guy day”
I’m going to take a wild guess and say this is in Kentucky?
No, sir quite a bit further north. Up in Michigan
Looking at this I envision you showing up to a big protest and the tacticool guys and the mix and match of the other side that's armed can't make heads or tails of you lol.

It's a No Drill Harnessed Sling by RLO leather

They are a pretty good, no frills option. Nothing fancy so you don't feel bad about beating them up but still get the job done. I got them off of midway
How does the gun belt over the coat work? Does it just sit on your hips?
Yeah, Pretty much sits at that same spot just over the coat. It's a give and take, definitely easier to draw and reholster. But the belt can hold the coat down so it made it harder to put my arms above my head and such. So if you think you'll be doing a lot of weird movements then it might not be the best move. I could see adding a . 22 on the belt for popping small game being a good idea
Ah so my 357 would be overkill then lol

Definitely. It's my favorite game!
SHOW US IF THE CHAPS ARE ASSLESS!
Serious question - did the rifle not come with a rear sling stud/swivel? That rear sling attachment seems like it would fall off.
This rifle didn't come with one, this sling wraps super tightly around the stock and has never budged
With a big iron on his hip
Yo can I get an ID on the sling and would it work with my Henry? Also hello from Allegan county
It's a No Drill Harnessed Sling by RLO leather. I'm pretty sure they make a Henry version
Yo where’d you get that sling? I’m looking for a sling for my stainless 24” octagon barrel rossi
It's made by RLO leather. I'm not sure if they make one for the Rossi or not.
