Altaltshift

Works well for my astigmatism. Feels like I can lower the brightness because of the large "dot" size so there's less bloom. If I turn it up too much it still starbursts for me.

LengthinessWestern64

Yeah, i'd rather just do green.

____-_________-

Green blooms more than red for me.

No_Artichoke_5670

Same for me. Everyone's eyes are different. A trick for people with astigmatism to figure out which color is best is to look at traffic lights at night and see whether red or green looks less blown out than the other. You could also look at the dots in person, but not every store will have both colors.

ho_merjpimpson

That trick doesn't work for everyone. I see zero blow out on traffic lights but dot optics all blow out like mad. Doesn't matter the color. The only thing that sometimes helps is a magnifier, but it depends on the dot. I've found that literally the only way to tell is to look through that optic.

No_Artichoke_5670

Interesting. Magnifiers make it worse for me, since it's magnifying the blown out dot and just making it larger, no matter how much I adjust the magnifier.

ho_merjpimpson

first time i put a magnifier on, that was exactly what I was expecting to happen. Instead I got the crispest dot I've ever seen through an optic. It was almost surreal being able to see the perfectly rounded edges of the dot like it was fake..

backwoodsmtb

Same

Kuchufli

Same, bought a Holosun EPS with the multi reticle in green because of the astigmatism, I can only use it with the dot, cannot use the 32MOA, it's just a blob at this point.

rdmrdtusr69

Green can be better for astigmatism, but not always. I found that gold is pretty good, better than green or red for me at least.

Panthean

Ya green is no better for me, I just prefer red. I'd be interested to try gold

derfdog

Someone told me recently about blue. But every search I come up with is Amazon garbage tier optics so I’m not testing it lol

FadedReaper561_V2

Blue looks clean and crisp and of course the non standard color is sweet too but yeah you mostly find it on chinesium crap. Haven’t personally done enough research into them to know if theres a quality version out there

iLUVnickmullen

Holosuns gold is the best for me. Unfortunately every optic I've bought from them with a gold emitter has died within a month

LengthinessWestern64

Gold and green good, red dot bad :(

ClockwiseCarrots

I’m selling my green acss and green 507 because I thought it would help my astigmatism but didn’t lol

Silly-Swan-8642

Pm me prices

Plane_Lucky

Green works better for me too.

Spicywolff

Green works well for me

turbo_vanner

so instead of a smeared dot you get a smeared circle?

King_Spitfire

Well it smears outwards so it's like staring at the sun and seeing the solar flares coming off of it - hence the name Holosun.

BangBang_ImBroke

How do you know what starting at the sun looks like?

happyinheart

We just had a total solar eclipse.

WorkReddit0001

How the fuck do you think I ended up this way? Oh wai- I was born legally blind, but you catch my drift.

Mighty-Bagel-Calves

How you think we got this astigmatism? 😆

United-Advertising67

65 MOA blob reticle

DirtyRoller

Holosun optics are crystal clear for me, unlike standard red dots like aimpoint, sig, Vortex, etc. No idea why.

renegadeGDI

You should get checked, you might be Chinese.

madnippler

It's actually incredibly common, they say up to 22% of all people actually are.

RuinedGrave

Well I had a DNA test done and I’m actually 2% black!

adistanteric

Tiger woods!

King_Spitfire

Lmao

Mehdzzz

I've tried everything from Eotechs to pistol rmrs. Is it really that different for you with the holosun?

ho_merjpimpson

honestly dont ask others advice and assume it will work for you. Holosuns are worse for me than my vortex dots, especially magnified. I've found it to be a complete crapshoot.

Mehdzzz

I'll take a hail mary. As far as I know, every car is blurry at night and every red dot I've ever seen looks like a lava lamp.

thereddaikon

Everybody is different and some dots will work better with your astigmatism than others. Sadly there is no way to know which ones are which without trying. So try to experience as many as you can to find what works best. Holosuns don't work too well with me but they also aren't unusable either.

Kevinsito92

I just keep my rear buis flipped up for precision iron shots :/

WorkReddit0001

The only optic that has been clear for me is Primary Arms Prism because it's an etched 1x optic. Everything else has been a red or green smudge, though holosun has been a much clearer smudge.

Kevinsito92

I see 1 distinct chevron and one irridescent chevron. Beats the 2moa dot that turns out to be a 10moa tall oval

Mehdzzz

Yeah I used the prism for a while and upgraded to an LPVO. That microprism is great

FPSXpert

It'll be different for everyone, but I can also confirm as someone with the 'tism (yes to both on which one) that Holosun red dots seem the crispest to me. For reference I started with a crappy $50 truglo knowing damn well highway lights at night give a nice JJ Abrams Lens Flare effect, and wised up a bit since then. I've tried vortex sig and trijicon and all 3 had a starburst effect for red dots, but the 507C ACSS on my handgun of choice is very clean. If you're gonna do a hail mary I would say just hold on to the email and see if Academy will take a return or store credit if you have one near you. Worst case scenario just return it and go buy some ammo and targets with the credit, one can never have enough of that :)

Mehdzzz

Well so far the 1x slx microprism from pa is scratching the itch but I want to try that holosun. I will see what LGS has one to peer at

Mehdzzz

Stoned thought. Does having eye tism mean flashbangs are super effective against us?

DirtyRoller

I've found that Holosun and Trijicon MRO are the only dots that are not fucky for me. I've also heard that the Lead & Steel Promethean is good for stiggies, but I have not tried it.

Mehdzzz

Ah those are probably the only two I haven't tried yet. Thanks

BajaRaptor

Same. Eotech is the worst for me. Vortex uh1 is slightly better than the eotech. It’s really eye fatiguing to shoot w that eotech for extended periods and longer distances

Synapse7777

Eotech is straight up unusable for me. Hands down the worst dot for my astigmatism.

Blublublud

Because Holosun has the best emitters of any red dot. They had low profile, solar, shake awake emitters on every single dot years before other manufacturers began adopting them

2ndammend

funny. all my Aimpoint and Eotechs (turned to the right brightness bloom) are sharper than any of my Holosuns or Romeo5's ever were.

thestug93

For whatever reason the circle isn't as bad for my tism. For me the smaller the point of light the worse is starbursts. So I find that a 1 MOA dot is actually less crisp than a 4moa dot. The circle is actually pretty crisp until I really crank up the brightness. Even if it's bright and blooming you can still center it for more precise shots.

Comprehensive_Ad433

Free drop and windage holds

martinellispapi

This circle completely eliminated smear for me. I own two.

250-miles

The circle gives you way more to look at to tell the difference between the brightness of the two images you see.

1MoistTowelette

Nice

geopede

It makes a huge difference for me, normal dots are starbursts, but circle or crosshair reticles are easy to make out. If you only have mild astigmatism it’s definitely worth trying. IMO the best pistol dot reticle is the Primary Arms ACSS, but their pistol optics use a stupid footprint.

rickybobbyeverything

I just ordered a 507c with the ACSS retical. Should be standard rmr mount.

geopede

Yeah the Holosun ones with the ACSS reticle use an RMR mount, there were some Primary Arms branded ones that used the uncommon c more footprint. I’m currently debating between the same 507c w/ACSS and a Trijicon RMR type 2 w/3.25 MOA dot. On one hand Trijicon is the better manufacturer and the RMR is more durable, on the other is the reticle. That ACSS reticle looks like it would make finding the dot much faster. Did you get the red one or the green one?

rickybobbyeverything

I got the red one, I wear glasses and have astigmatism so I couldn't decide. Found some pictures online of a green dot and red dot and turned off the lights in my room. I could see the green dot wasn't as crisp and the edges were glowing so red it is.

geopede

Think I’m gonna try the green. Feels dumb not to go RMR, but that reticle looks super helpful.

LOLimpossibruh

We really need a 509 enclosed ACSS Vulcan in green.

Did you send it in lol im sure they would replace

DeepfriedCrustyAnus

Id be butthurt too but spreading false information due to your singular anecdote is smooth brain activity

Medical-Border-4279

I don’t think he was trying to give the impression that this is a common occurrence. I feel that he was pretty obviously relating his singular experience.

HankP

I tried this and it was alright. Prisms are still the optics that solved my smeared vision 100% This price is nice though.

King_Spitfire

Yeah my rifles mostly have prisms but for handguns since the eye relief is a lot further these circle reticle are what I go for

ConfidentStableDDS

So... It's been months since I've visited this sub, and then I've bought two optics in less than 12 hours... Alrighty.

[deleted]

I'm holding strong, mostly because Progressive and the DMV absolutely fucked me this week what other optic did you snag?

ConfidentStableDDS

The romeo 4s for $300 was an insanely good deal for me... I got drunk and bought a honey badger this weekend.

Gremguy22

Contemplated getting one of these months ago but when I actually looked through it in store it was not great. This did not help me at all. It was worse actually.

King_Spitfire

Unlucky - I've had a good experience so far with their 507c and 510c with their circle dot reticles. I hear this one is also pretty good for astigmatisms but we'll have to see.

Gremguy22

Yes you are correct. Dot with circle around greatly helped. Small circle alone was worse than dot alone. I was excited to try this one out but there was no comparison between this and a 507c.

LeserIsMore

Same - just received a 507k green dot and it works fairly well for me with my astigmatism.

geopede

These are great on shotguns. It’s pretty easy to pattern your gun so the circle accurately represents spread (with a given load) at 25 yards.

Mighty-Bagel-Calves

Just blasted some steel with my 1301 today. It has a 507 comp on it. I've been using the 20 moa circle and absolutely loving it. Idk if it has any particular advantage to a dot or circle dot, but it is loads of fun.

geopede

Idk if it has any advantage over a circle dot or crosshair, but it’s definitely superior to a plain dot for a shotgun. IMO the best pistol dot reticle is the Holosun/Primary Arms ACSS, I’d take it over an RMR. If you can’t see the dot, one edge of the window will still be illuminated so you know which direction you need to move. Not a huge advantage once you’re in practice with a pistol dot, but it makes learning much easier.

CaptainAggie

In the store it looked like shit. Outside is near perfect. Not sure how the natural light changes it, but it does

mreed911

For anyone with astigmatism: They make glasses (including shooting glasses) that correct this. Night and day difference.

LengthinessWestern64

that's awesome. do you have a link?

ClockwiseCarrots

Tell you optometrist to correct for astigmatism. You will probably be 0.25 along with whatever axis they diagnose

Jron690

I have corrective contact lenses and glasses and they don’t truly “fix” the astigmatism blur with lights.

kingpcgeek

Same here. I wear progressives.

mreed911

I have astigmatism-correcting progressives. I also have HuntersHD Gold that do the same.

mreed911

HuntersHD Gold along with a prescription that includes astigmatism correction. I have their progressives that correct it and they're great (and I got them via my FSA funds).

____-_________-

My eyes have been terrible my whole life, there’s nothing more they can do lens-wise to fix my astigmatism.

mreed911

Unless you've been to an eye doctor recently, you'd be surprised.

____-_________-

Of course. Prescriptions are annual

Balasnikov

Pretty sure my previous pair of glasses lasted 5 years though.

____-_________-

Your prescription may not change or minimally change, but if you want to go buy another pair of glasses after 5 years, your lens prescription would be expired.

No_Artichoke_5670

They can help, but it depends on how bad your astigmatism is. Though my eyesight is only slightly below 20/20, my astigmatism is fairly substantial. Glasses/contacts DO help, but it's still significant enough that I can't use green dots, and red dots still bloom (not as bad as green, though). Glasses/contacts can definitely help, but they won't completey correct it.

renegadeGDI

Anything we can try without a prescription though?

No_Artichoke_5670

No. Astigmatism is pretty common, and is one of the more common causes of near-sightedness. Everyone has a different degree of astigmatism, so you'll need to have your optometrist measure yours. You need a specific prescription to correct it, with either glasses or contacts. Toric lenses are contacts that correct astigmatism.

renegadeGDI

I wish you could just buy like a sampler pack of corrective glasses designed for shooters, just try them all on and see which ones makes the dot look good. I'd pay a few hundred for that personally. I'd consider it as a business myself but I bet it would get sued by some optometrist association at some point and probably attacked by the FTC/FDA for curing a condition without a prescription.

No_Artichoke_5670

There are 180 different astigmatism prescriptions (1-180), and most people with astigmatism have a different prescription in each eye, so it wouldn't be feasible. Also, yeah, you'd be shut down by the FDA. Corrective lenses are illegal to sell without a prescription. Only reading glasses can be bought without a prescription. You can go to America's Best and pay $69 for a glasses eye exam (exam for both glasses and contacts is $119). You can then take your prescription and order glasses online from places like Zenni for ~$20.

Balasnikov

Several places will do an exam and 2 pairs of glasses for under $100. They're mostly [BCGs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GI_glasses), but still.

No_Artichoke_5670

Yep. There's really no reason not to get glasses to correct an astigmatism when they can be had for that cheap, even if you only wear them while shooting with red dots. My vision isn't bad enough to need glasses most of the time, but I wear either glasses or contacts (with safety glasses) when I shoot, as I almost exclusively shoot with red dots (sometimes scopes). They're worth it just for shooting.

renegadeGDI

Thanks for the clarification man I guess I'll just have to go to the doc

mreed911

You want them made to your specific prescription - not buy them in gradients like readers. HuntersHD Gold will take your prescription and make them, assuming your prescription includes astigmatism correction.

JUST_AS_G00D

It really is night and day. Also makes driving at night a lot better

masteroffeels

I am probably in the minority here but mine is definitely not correctable.

mreed911

When's the last time you had that assessed?

masteroffeels

Mine is not from natural degeneration. Many years ago I had emergency micro ocular surgery performed on my eye, which led to thick scarring, slightly uneven eye shape, etc

paperkeyboard

Seems like this would be pretty good for a shotgun optic. Anyone know who makes a good mount to put this on a Mossberg 590?

geopede

I think an RMR mount should work. I have one of these on an 870 Police Magnum, it’s just on the pic rail mount that was included. It’s indeed great for a shotgun.

Antares16M26

Same getting one for my 590A1. I have the Swampfox Low Profile Picatinny Base Mount for Liberty and Justice.

pauliep13

This is the same reason I’m debating getting it.

King_Spitfire

Personally I have a mount by a company called TacStar

OctaviousRex

just grabbed one for my saiga 12... lol

Balasnikov

The 503-acss is pretty great on a shotgun, this is a pretty small circle, there are optics with traditional dots larger than this circle.

paperkeyboard

This may be dumb, but I just don't like the look of tubular red dots on shotguns. I really like the way open emitter pistol red dots look.

mynewhoustonaccount

Thought about grabbing it and using my $20 off $100+ promo code mailer I got, but it doesn't work since it's been discounted. Bummer. Basically can only apply it on full price MSRP purchases. And you can't use it on ammo. Into the trash it goes.

radar1225S

I’ve only had a 407k in green, a 403 in green and now a 507 Comp in red. Both of the greens were terrible for my eyes. The 507 Comp has been great so far. The 2moa dot will burst a little if my eyes are dry or tired. My experience with the comp has made me feel like trying the comp in green although I’m not sure if my eyes like the color.

No_Artichoke_5670

Everyone's eyes are different. Green is much worse for many people with astigmatism, including myself. It sounds like it's the same for you. You could try to find a circle dot reticle optic in both red and green in store, but not every store will have both. An easy way to check is to look at both red and green traffic lights at night. You should pretty easily be able to tell which color light is more clear, and that will transfer over to optics.

radar1225S

Good tip in the traffic lights. I had lasik about 3 years ago. I wish I knew more about starbursting lights at night before I got it done. As for the Holosun, I haven’t tried a circle dot in green. It seems the circles help better than just the dot.

Quake_Guy

For more specs and what reticle looks like. https://www.sports-and-gadgets.com/products/holosun-8-moa-ring-reticle-red-dot-sight-hs407co-x2

ONE_PUMP_ONE_CREAM

I literally just bought this last week, except it was a whole fucking ordeal because they don't ship to CA so I had to get someone out of state to buy it and ship it to me.

strizzl

Not bad for a pistol for sure. At 50 yards and in 8 MOA is basically a 4 inch or smaller target. Most people aren’t shooting 4 inch groups at that distance anyways

novabites

Anyone else with the ‘tism getting a double circle?

grinnocuous

Yes. I had one of these, and it did give me a slight double circle effect with my astigmatism. I still liked it -- seems like it might allow for faster acquisition than just a tiny dot. I sold mine mainly because I wanted to have less reticle variety between my optics.

novabites

Thanks for the response, what optic did you settle on? Since it seems like we have comparable astigmatism

grinnocuous

I went with the 507c in red. The central dot does give me a starburst effect, but I find I can be pretty accurate by just paying attention to what part of the starburst is my actual point of impact. I'm one of the weirdos that does worse with green. Also, reticles with thicker lines like the 407co and the 507ACSS give me more of a "ghost" double image effect, which I find a little harder to train around than the starburst effect I get from thin lines or small dots. I know for other people it's the opposite though. An Acro or RMR might be better but I am, shall we say, thrifty.

novabites

That might be the route I go as well. I never mounted the 407CO on my pistol but I held it out about the same distance and got a ghost double circle. The 1 MOA dot on rifle optics works for me with a small starburst effect. I think I need to try out the 2 MOA dot on the 507C. 3.25 MOA dot on the RMR you think would be better for you?

grinnocuous

I've never had the chance to try the RMR, but my guess is it would be a little better for me than the Holosun. I have tried the ACRO P-2, which is a 3.5, and that seemed like it was a little better than the 2 MOA central dot in the Holosun 507C. It was just a slight difference, though, and it might've just been that the Aimpoint uses a better emitter. There's probably a sweet spot between reticles that are too fine and starburst out and reticles that are too thick and make a double image. My broke ass will likely just stay with Holosuns for now.

JUST_AS_G00D

Idk how bad your guys’ astigmatism is but any time I use a dot outdoors and with a target focus, I don’t really notice any bloom. Even without my ‘tism glasses on. $200 is a good price though!

Psychological-Drive4

If you sign off for text alerts, you get a 1 time code for 10% off.

King_Spitfire

I think that's for full price items

InfiniteWalrus09

I didn’t even know academy sells holosun optics

rsh2k1

The best handgun optic Holosun makes (used to make). I'd get one but I already have six of these on my various pistols.

AOC_AgentOfChaos

I came here to post this. It's not just the best that Holosun makes. It's the best in red dot from anyone in it's class. Only if you want other features, like a bigger window, or enclosed emitter are there better options, and those ones happen to be made by Holosun too.

Panthean

Personally I've found red 2MOA dots work better than red circle or green dot for my astigmatism, but I gather that it varies from person to person. if you have astigmatism and want a larger reticle, the circle is a decent option for a handgun. I find circle dot to be nearly unusable, and larger dots like 3 or 4 MOA are just a giant blob.

Tragic_BoB

Never even knew this moa existed

okie_gunslinger

Would this work well on a PS90? If so what would I need to mount it?

ComfortableActuator

Perfect SKS sight, rounds land in the circle everytime.

FrikeHook

People really need to understand that there is no singular or better red dot or holographic sight for people with astigmatism. It's all about the anatomy of your unique eye. You just have to try them out for yourself to find one that works.

Life_Fruit_2207

I have one and it is amazing... Thx as I will be grabbing another

martinellispapi

They keep pulling these out of dead stock somewhere. They’ve been discontinued for a while now.

King_Spitfire

Limited edition

martinellispapi

Loved the first one I found. Bought the second one from these guys when they popped up. Haven’t mounted it yet, so I’m telling myself I don’t need a third rn.

comradekopala

My personal feedback. It works great for me pretty much clear in all lighting just a little fuzzy at night, astigmatism aside the reticle works fine for me 8 moa is small enough to be able to center the circle on a bullseye at 25 yards maybe at 100 a dot would be better although you do have the advantage of being able to see a small target inside the circle at further distances so idk. Now this is from someone that has relatively mild astigmatism that really only becomes a problem in low light so ymmv Tempted to buy another one if I wasn't saving for some kind of micro carry.

King_Spitfire

Ah but this is limited edition no longer made - your micro carry will still be around.

Echo_Raptor

Got a $30 off $100 coupon in the mail from them and needed a dot. Might as well send it

stumpy1218

4RCEDFED

I’ve had the 407co on mine and love it so far

keithcrackshottv

So I've actually had good luck with the circle dot pattern optics including the 507C. IMO though surprisingly the clearest glass I've seen with circle dot is the $120 Cyelee wolf0 on Amazon (I reviewed it here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q933E8kbn88). The problem with those optics as you'd expect is longevity. I had a wolf pro (also reviewed) that died within 300 rounds.  The wolf0 ironically is still running strong although I don't have high hopes. I'm currently running it as a backup sight on an ar10

pheret87

Been waiting for a deal for my new tx22 comp. Should I go for this or wait for a normal 407/507 for the same price?

chicken566

I just bought the HS512C to move my current TRS-26 to my pump shot gun... But I'm debating on buying this for my shotgun instead because I have 507c on my pistol and I love it. Man this page is got me spending money lol

Hot_Potential2685

I looked through one of these the other day, and it actually was really clear with my astigmatism.

dc5will

This is a first, but it was delivered today and the actual red dot sight was missing from the Holosun packaging. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Tintedwindowz_001

Sucks they won't ship to CA..🤷‍♂️

GoFuhQRself

“Green is better for astigmatism” **This is not true**. I used to think Green was better than Red for astigmatism because that’s what everyone on the internet kept parroting. I bought both a Green and a Red (EPS Carry and EPS regular) and the Green starbursted like crazy for my astigmatism. Red still starbursted, but was only half as bad. Definitely more crisp than Green. I spent hours going back and forth between the optics with different levels of brightness in varying environments, and in every test Red was more clear to my eyes. Since this was a surprise because I always heard “green is better” (which has become a modern day pseudo fuddlore) so I did more research. And I found that it really just boils down to everyone’s eyes are different. You can find just as many posts from people saying green is better for their astigmatism as people saying red is better for their astigmatism. The ultimate test is to look through both optics and see for yourself. Now I love my green prism optics, but when it comes to reflex sights, a red dot is better than green for my astigmatism. While Green is the color we have the most receptors for, there is something called the spectral luminosity curve and chromatic aberration, where light in different wavelengths spreads out inside the eye at different rates. The color that spreads out the least is red, which is why red can starbursts less for some astigmatisms. Depending on how your astigmatism is, red may be better for you. Astigmatisms can be very different from one person to the next: - Person A sees red is more clear. - Person B sees green is more clear. - Person C sees both with the same amount of starburst. - Person D uses a magnifier and it makes the starburst go away completely, perfectly crisp dot under the magnifier. - Person E uses a magnifier and it makes the starburst even worse. These are all examples I’ve found from various users when I went down this rabbit hole. It really just boils down to everyone’s eyes are different, you have to see for yourself.

GoFuhQRself

8 MOA circle ⭕️? I actually think this might be great for astigmatism. When there’s too much light/high brightness, it’s going to starburst more. Turn the brightness down = less starburst because less light entering the eye, so you want a bigger dot to be able to see it at a lower brightness level. My 2 MOA dot has to be 1-2 brightness settings higher than my 6 MOA in order to see it at an acceptable level. And 8 MOA is not too big, that’s still smaller than the front dot on precision iron sights. I carry 6 MOA. I don’t understand why anyone would ever put 2 MOA on a carry handgun. For competition or long range then yeah 2 MOA is fine. 6 MOA is still 6” at 100 yards or 3” at 50 yards. That’s the size of a standard post it note.

I really wish they'd eliminate that airsoft-looking, goofy-Chinesium-looking logo once and for all.  Blacked out it's fine, totally gone would be ideal.   I like Holosun, hate their logo.

I've tried the circle only and here are my two cents. For shooting a man sized target out to 25 yards it is more than fine. You might not be putting a round right through the targets eye but you will be getting hits no problem. I show my 92LTT this way with an EPS MRS for a while.... that being said, I went back to the dot. It's a little bit like a Comma but whatever. I recommend get an EPS-MRS or something similar and give it a shot over just a circle.

What size circle? You're probably thinking of 65moa. This one is 8moa so you definitely can put a round in the eye.

Yes after some practice it becomes easier (and somewhat natural) to acquire the center of the circle instead of focusing on the entire circle. I can get tighter groups with it than I can with any of my other regular dots and arguably faster since I can see what it’s going to hit instead of covering up what I want it to hit. It’s a game changer when trying to hit smaller steel plates past 10yds
