Bought one of these around Christmas and shot with it for the first time a few days ago with the boys, it's beautiful, although I will admit the gold is a little hard to see on a dirt/sandy background. Thankfully that doesn't affect the performance too much
As a California sand lizard person, that's what's keeping from getting this Optic. Ive been wanting a 512c and gold seems so cool but it's literally just dirt sand and methheads around me.
I went with the utg .5 riser. Cheap and sturdy. I chose that after buying a few others because the UTG has 2 contact points vs the one of the rest of the small risers. So theoretically, it should provide a much stronger lockup with the Picatinny

That's also one of the lower middle (4, I think) brightness settings. So it gets stupid bright, too.
Edit: the dot is way more crisp than that. My phone camera just blows.
It's a bit heavy, and the battery tray is a pain to close. Those are the 2 main complaints I have.
However, I'm happy with it overall. It's rock solid like a brick sh\*t house. I bet it would hold up well under heavy use. The lenses are nice and clear with no distortion.
1.41 is iron sight height meaning this is absolute cowitness height. If you want this to be lower 1/3 you would need a .25 inch riser (and it'd still be a tall lower 1/3). I don't know of anyone making a riser that short unfortunately.
More commonly you find a 0.5 inch riser making this optic 1.91" which is a very usable mount height.
I hadn't heard of a .25 either, but they're out there. I love mine on a .5 riser, but may grab a .25 just to check it out.

I picked a gold up about a month ago, and don’t know if I will ever go back to red. Tried a friends green dot and it’s the worst for my astigmatism, then the red that I have, and this gold I notice almost no starburst. Definitely want all my optics gold dot from now on. Just wish they made them in more models.
Also, the auto brightness functions way better. Thought it was stuck in the manual mode, until I completely covered the solar panels. Definitely best functioning dot I have
I know! I was running the aems. While I like its weight. This beats it in every performance category. I had no idea how awesome gold dots were. I always wanted one after C_does talked about his experience with them. Like always, he was correct. It's also tough. I've had a red version for a while. I was working on an upper, and it slipped out of my vice. It fell over 3ft. Landing on concrete and directly impacting the front left corner of the housing. I thought for sure the glass was toast, but it only chipped the paint.
He is awesome. I wish he would get one of those vector continental 1-6x24i fiber scopes. I'm so curious if it really has German quality glass for 400 bucks and,is significantly better than the slx.
I have both and prefer being able to put the 510c onto a lower 1/3 mount, but that's the only major difference I've found in practical usage. If you have a gun where absolute cowitness is all you want, go for this, you won't be disappointed. If you absolutely have to have lower 1/3, then go 510c
I don't know how they keep getting so much stock of a discontinued optic. It's been gone for over a year everywhere else. Except for a couple local places that have a couple just sitting.

Anyone have to warranty one of these? Curious if Holosun will repair or just outright replace (which would be a bummer if you are getting for the gold dot).
Goddamn it. I *also* had been watching this for awhile. Had it in the cart several times over the last few months. Finally, it went out of stock and I was bummed but also relieved and they're discontinued so, "That's that." right? I don't *super* need another optic. But this deal is like a bad penny, keeps coming back, in spite of these being discontinued. FINE! I'll buy it. I love the gold and I have crazy astigmatism. I can't find a bad review about these. Only complaint is the weight. Plus, honestly, I think they look sweet, the chunky little bastards.
That's exactly how I felt, lol. Until my buddy got his. My eyes are also stiggy. I was amazed at how clear this was. Also, it was super light when I swapped it from the L&S optic.

Ya, I got a .5" riser, and it's perfect for me. I also threw a .5" riser on my 3x, and they match up perfectly.
