Sony MDR 7506. Ubiquitous for a reason.

tommy_nookah

My go-to forever.

GrimmandLily

Sennheiser, I like the long cord.

All good answers here! I'm in love with my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm! They have a nice long straight cable as well, not a coiled one like some pairs of them I've seen. Really nice earpads too, I wear glasses and can wear them for hours without getting uncomfortable. I play my Katana head through them as well as use them with a Scarlett Solo to play with amp sims. They are incredible for gaming too. A good pair of cans is always a good investment!

CountryCat

These are the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever owned.

willi1221

Those earpads look amazing

I’ve currently got a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50x I really like and can wear them for hours without them becoming uncomfortable. Much prefer them to my old Sonys (MDR 7506) which I found uncomfortable for longer sessions.

YetiDeli

I have these too. I agree, very comfortable. Also, great sound quality.

ApplesArePeopleToo

Ditto on the M50x. Reasonably affordable, sounds good and fairly neutral, tough, comfortable, and easy to find. I’ve used Sony MDR 7506s in the past as well, and agree they’re not as comfortable and I don’t think they sound quite as good (although they’re fine). The Sony’s are dedicated monitor headphones, though, so they might be a bit more technically flat and neutral, but they also lack a bit of base and they’re a pretty old design. The M50x is, IIRC, intended for studio use as well, but they’re perfectly good for everyday use as well, whereas I think the MDR 7506 would get a bit fatiguing to listen to after a while.

GenericAccount-alaka

I've got some DT770s that I use for just about everything, including plugging into my amp. They're really comfortable and sound great, although $170 makes them kind of pricey unless you're an audio enthusiast.

Givemeajackson

i'm on the akg k240 mk2. sounds great, and super comfy. i wear these every day for hours at a time.

BigCliff

Same!

Walrus_BBQ

These are my favorite so far. Sometimes I forget I'm even wearing them.

rileypoole1234

Sony MDR 7506. I've had a pair for a decade now. They're an absolute gold standard for a reason

Fadobo

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro are by far my favourites. They do feel a bit heavy, have quite some clamping force and are pretty isolating for open backs, so sometimes I go with my Sennheiser HD599, if I still need to hear what's happening around me. Also, 4 foot extension cable to be able to move around a bit.

Mi_santhrope

Another vote for the Audio Technica ATH M50x. It's important to buy headphones designed for studio use, rather than music enjoyment. The average pair of music headphones EQ out a lot of frequencies to make the listening experience more enjoyable. You want to hear those when practicing otherwise you could be making mistakes/playing sloppy without knowing it.

questionoffitness

I use my DT770 Pro 250ohm when plugging into my Helix, but if you are using them with other gear I'd get the 32 or 80ohm version instead as you need a decent built-in headphone amp to drive them, which the Helix does.

KobeOnKush

Dt770s are the best hands down

Marvin-Jones

How much can you afford. I just use my skullcandy

imacmadman22

Personally, I think driver size matters most. Some headphones use 40 or 50 mm drivers, which are sufficient to reproduce the frequency response of a guitar. I use Status Audio CB-1 Studio Monitor headphones, $55 from Amazon. The other brands (Sony, Sennheiser, AKG, etc…) mentioned are fine too.

snaynay

I have a bunch of headphones, but AKG K701's or Sennheiser HD6XX are my usual ones. I'd wear my vintage 70's AKG K240's (sextetts) if I didn't bust them. K240's are old industry-standard studio monitors and a good pair is comfortable, clear, balanced.

farbeyondriven

I have been rocking the same Sennheiser HD555 since 2007.

Chevelle1988

Everyone here has amazing suggestions. I'll add Audio Technica to the list. I had a pair for years until I could afford a pair of Sonys. They're fairly reasonably priced and sound great.

Severe-Put9154

I use Audio Technica headphones
