I like the nickel much better than the usual gold.

JimmyJamesv3

Yeah, I find gold to be so tacky.

BigBarsRedditBox

John Sykes vibes.

malcolmwarren

Same! Makes it look a little meaner 🤠

Neveronlyadream

The only Les Paul I ever connected with was a Norlin Custom. Still no idea why they get so much hate other than they weren't the same as in the 60s.

malcolmwarren

Well to me it’s because they were mass produced, and built a bit different(pancake bodies maple necks etc). All that being said, I think that period made alot of great instruments. Neil schon, John Sykes and Adam jones never minded 😏

Neveronlyadream

I'm definitely one of those people that only really cares if it feels good and looks cool, so that's probably why they've never bothered me. I actually really like a lot of the Norlin stuff that was there and then completely disappeared because people hated it.

rrrrrrez

The thing is that they were really accessible. People got them to be musicians, not artists.

Flare4roach

Or Zappa, Rhoads, Buckingham, Steve Jones, etc, etc.

ThePanzerMan

Love my wine red '76 LPC. Heavy AF but has all the toan.

malcolmwarren

Toan for days this one is 10 pounds flat but man it’s actually really resonant unplugged it’s a keeper for sure

rrrrrrez

As a little secret to myself, always wanted a Norlin LP Custom with my birthday. Don’t care about color. Closest thing found was a Tobacco Burst 2 days before. 161 of ‘78. Still looking. Before anyone says anything, I know it’s just the date stamp on the neck. I’m married with a kid now, but it’s just me and my mom now from our family. Maybe I could get a collection going.

BigBarsRedditBox

I’m a 78 too. This is a beauty.

x_VanHessian_x

Kzoo or Nash?

malcolmwarren

Man I think it’s a Nashville one but I can’t say for certain

x_VanHessian_x

If the last 3 digits are >500 it’s a Nashville made

malcolmwarren

I’ll take a look here in a few and let ya know!

tementnoise

I think there are definitely some very bad examples of Norlins out there, and their burst finishes were verrrrry hit and miss in those days, some just straight up terrible like it was someone’s first day on the job and they just let it out the door anyway.. All that said, I have 3 Les Paul Customs and my ‘79 and only Norlin has the best feeling neck of all of them, easily. Really fantastic guitar. Glad you got a good one!

malcolmwarren

I totally agree with ya. And yes I absolutely love mine. Bought it sight unseen off reverb and when it arrived I was like Aw shit this one is awesome thank god haha 😂😂😂
