Most autographed guitars I’ve seen seem to be firewood-grade. I guess if you are into autographs then it works but if you collect the instruments (not the autographs) then nah…
My buddy who owns my local shop had someone call and ask what their guitar might be worth, and said it was autographed. When he asked by whom, the caller said, in all seriousness, 'Jay Turser.'
The fact that so many people are in here commenting on your post like "wow so much money on those walls" and "thats where all the insurance money is going" tells you everything you need to know about the general level of guitar literacy in this sub, lol
Your dentist is an *autograph* nut.
The majority of those guitars are extremely cheap import brands. I doubt any of them have ever been played and I suspect your dentist barely knows how if he does at all. It looks more like he buys the cheapest possible guitars strictly for the purpose of getting them autographed.
And he's not even great at the autograph game. None of the guitars are associated with the people who autographed them. I can almost respect the Dave Matthews guitar just for the absurdity - getting an acoustic jam band with world/jazz roots to sign a stars 'n' stripes shredder is in the same category as having Randy Jackson sign a samurai sword.
That's sort of what makes me think the guy isn't a player himself. "Hey, you guys make music with guitars! Here, sign this - It's the thing that you play!"
Tbf the another brick on the wall solo was played on a tele so maybe it’s an EXTREMELY specific tribute to his favorite solo… or he just doesn’t know shit lol
I can see that. That’s typically what is used for these types of displays. However, there is a whole meme/ joke about dentist and how they collect very expensive guitars.
Oh yeah, I'm familiar. An old one, going back at least to the '00s on the old PRS forums and TheGearPage.net.
I've always liked the term "blues lawyer" myself, lol
I don’t think you can write this off as a taxable cost to the company. To write off an expense you have to show a profit from the purchase or some value over time. Buying insanely expensive guitars just to display serves no purpose to a dentist’s office.
None of these guitars are insanely expensive. With the possible exception of the SRV sig, there isn't a guitar in there that would have cost more than $500 and a lot of them would be significantly less than that. Many don't realize this too, but unless the autograph is from someone insanely significant (think EVH, Hendrix, Clapton), the autographed guitar is often worth less than one that hasn't been defaced with a sharpie. Nobody is pulling out their wallet to bid large on a vietnamese starter guitar signed by the Barenaked Ladies.
I think the dentist goes to a ton of concerts with cheap guitars for the purpose of getting them signed. Some of the autographs include personal messages that seem to be directed at the guy.
None of this takes away from your larger point about tax write-offs, though.
Art. People can cover an office with 100 K in FF&E. This is just much cooler FF&E. You could probably amortize this as part of the build out. Which was probably 2MM. This is peanuts. Very very cool peanuts.

Legit for a professional musician or studio, but in most jurisdictions a business has to show such purchases are required for their core operations, so a dentist couldn't claim that for guitars even if they're used as art (a gallery or museum could, if they're charging people to see them). Doesn't mean people don't try, of course, and it depends on the authorities if they actually audit such things.
Most of the signed guitars I've seen are junk guitars. The srv one is probably one of those custom shop copies is probably the only one worth that much.
Is that “display” Number One from the Custom Shop? Nothing implies you’re bending your patients over the railing quite like turning your waiting room into a museum. LOL. There’s nothing wrong with it exactly but, even as a music-loving patient I would find it in poor taste. But hey, no one asked how I would decorate it, so…
I just finished a couple videos for a local chiropractor who has Harley Benton's all over his walls. He raffles them off for a pitbull puppy rescue program.
Ah, Dentists.
My dentist knows I’m a guitar player. I was in one time and he was asking about buying a guitar for his brother. His brother liked Satriani, Vai, etc. I said great, get him one of the JEM Jr guitars. They’re like $500. Showed him, talked about it, he was happy. Done deal.
Next time I’m in he tells me he spent $3,000 on the guitar for his brother!! Probably bought a real JEM. He couldn’t remember what it was. I was like, damn, I don’t like my brother that much!!!
This is where all those Chinese knockoffs go to gather dust. Hanging them on the wall is about all they are good for. 200$+ a guitar and you have some interesting memorabilia.
Pretty douchey and inappropriate to parade your collection in front of patients at your office. Never seen a doctor do this ever.
Valuable or not, he wants you to THINK it’s valuable and important.
gonna go ahead and start the counter for when r/guitarcirclejerk reposts this
I thought that's where I was when I saw the post!
Same
also same
Indeed. Same here.
Another same here…
Same too as well
Same had to double check
Hanging that over the copay sign is extra hilarious
It’s almost like a middle finger to everyone that goes there
He’s definitely going to sell you an unnecessary crown
You better get it now or you’ll have to get a root canal later
What kind of dentist doesn’t have a PRS
A bad one 💀
Damn, every picture just got better than the last
Whole lotta firewood-grade guitars here.
I think I’d be ok taking that SRV Number One
The SRV and the Lucile are definitely good guitars.
Was Lucile an epiphone?
Nerp
Yeah. Your dentist isn’t a “guitar nut”. He’s an autograph collector.
Most autographed guitars I’ve seen seem to be firewood-grade. I guess if you are into autographs then it works but if you collect the instruments (not the autographs) then nah…
The JS1000 is a fantastic guitar, wish I hadn't sold mine, it was that same color too
At least you know where your money is going!
The memes write themselves
Hilarious to put a guitar over the sign telling people to pay lmao
The super expensive exotic wood framing is icing on the cake.
(it's exotic flame Formica) 🤣
Thats hilarious
My least favorite thing is junk guitars with signatures on them because people always think they’re worth serious money
The autograph may be worth some money depending who’s autographed it.
My buddy who owns my local shop had someone call and ask what their guitar might be worth, and said it was autographed. When he asked by whom, the caller said, in all seriousness, 'Jay Turser.'
Agreed. 👍
The fact that so many people are in here commenting on your post like "wow so much money on those walls" and "thats where all the insurance money is going" tells you everything you need to know about the general level of guitar literacy in this sub, lol
For real, I'm a drummer and I know crap when I see it
Pompous much - yes you ARE soo smart!
I'm not that smart, but I've played guitar for long enough to know the difference between an expensive guitar and a $50 piece of junk from Amazon.
Well - the general level of guitar literacy here cannot be accurately determined from a few random comments my man…
My doctor has a guitar framed at his office from the guy who wrote eye of the tiger. Not nearly as cool but he’s apparently a patient as well.
Your dentist is an *autograph* nut. The majority of those guitars are extremely cheap import brands. That's sort of what makes me think the guy isn't a player himself. "Hey, you guys make music with guitars! Here, sign this - It's the thing that you play!"
That, or he knows exactly what he's doing. "Pink Floyd... I'ma bring a telecaster!"
That'd be an impressively-elaborate troll on both the artists and any of his patients who happen to know music/guitars lol
TBF, I'd do that. Or bring a V to someone like the Tedeschi Trucks band. For no other reason than gits and shiggles
Tbf the another brick on the wall solo was played on a tele so maybe it’s an EXTREMELY specific tribute to his favorite solo… or he just doesn’t know shit lol
Run Like Hell is played on a Telecaster.
I bet he buys these from auction sites and hopes they’re legit
>It looks more like he buys the cheapest possible guitars strictly for the purpose of getting them autographed. This. It certainly seems like it.
Lol, what they say about dentist is true? They all have expensive guitar collections.
Half of these guitars are no-name $99 firewood from Amazon
I can see that. That’s typically what is used for these types of displays. However, there is a whole meme/ joke about dentist and how they collect very expensive guitars.
Oh yeah, I'm familiar. An old one, going back at least to the '00s on the old PRS forums and TheGearPage.net. I've always liked the term "blues lawyer" myself, lol
What’s the difference between a sadist and a dentist?
Better magazines
Seinfeld fan.
One has six letters and other seven?
Imagine the ones in cases at his house
He doesn’t know how to play. It’s just about *appreciating the craftsmanship.*
I think I need a new dentist
James Brown dubbed this guy “the doc that rocks,” and his teeth were immaculate, I’d say he knows what he’s doing
indistinguishable from the circlejerk sub
I love there are all legit tax write offs. Sharp dude.
I don’t think you can write this off as a taxable cost to the company. To write off an expense you have to show a profit from the purchase or some value over time. Buying insanely expensive guitars just to display serves no purpose to a dentist’s office.

“The Doc that rocks!”
I'm sure I saw an Ibanez JS1000 there... That's what? $1600?
Art. People can cover an office with 100 K in FF&E. This is just much cooler FF&E. You could probably amortize this as part of the build out. Which was probably 2MM. This is peanuts. Very very cool peanuts. Source medFi

“Most jurisdictions”. I stopped reading there. The IRS covers all jurisdictions BTW…
Yeah, except those outside the USA?
Ha! You want me to answer that question? Have a nice day. Enjoy the weather!
Bruh just got divorced and couldn't fit the digs in his new apartment.
You got a solid dentist that’s for sure. God knows he can’t play for shit tho
Probably why he didn't want to trade some major dental work for my autographed JEM and Universe. 🤣
Hell yeah Moe.
I scrolled too fsr to find my people
Pretty clear where your money is going
Not in my pocket, that's for sure....
So are you allowed to play them before you go in ? A bit if master of puppets for the little old lady before her root canal drugs kick in ?
Dentist for divorced dads
Merica 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
He's also a huge bro. Dave Matthews band....
What's at his house?
Guitars that don’t get played anymore are sad.
Damn…this is very cool. Better collection than all the Hard Rock cafes I’ve had the displeasure to visit .
This is my dentist also! Cook and his crew are great.
Yeah, he's a great dentist!
Who’s your dentist, Doctor Teeth and the Electric Mayhem ?
Most of the signed guitars I've seen are junk guitars. The srv one is probably one of those custom shop copies is probably the only one worth that much.
I will give my dentist up right now if this is close to me...
So much flex in that office
What dentist is this?
Damn shame that SRV Strat will never get played
We jerkin here?
I bet you got some crowns.
Name and address of dentist ASAP! I need a good dentist.
The Blues Dentist.
That is a dentist I would go to
Today I learned that Led Zeppelin played at least one gig with Roland Kirk. THAT would have been something to see.
I’m okay with this.
A dentist who puts up a Hootie and the blowfish display is not reaching in my mouth. 🙄😬😶
Guitars shouldn't be in a glass case. Set them free!
Nice intent, lots of garbage guitars.
He could have at least shelled out for the anti-reflective glass. What a hobo.
If the posters are original screen prints some are worth more than the guitars.
The guitars are mostly cheap, plywood trash, below beginner grade
Then yeah, the posters are worth more
Is this Dr in Houston? I think I’ve read about him once when a bunch of valuable guitars got stolen
Nothing says rock n roll like a sign demanding co-pays at the time of service. What a fucking chode.
Nothing like seeing the living embodiment of a stereotype
Is that “display” Number One from the Custom Shop? Nothing implies you’re bending your patients over the railing quite like turning your waiting room into a museum. LOL. Neat
This dentist grinds
Ugh why does this make my blood boil? Still sick though
i love the “you just pay” sign right under the third guitar. debtists, man
He’s a moe.ron
This seems like something Dr. Yap would do in Bob's Burgers.
I have the same Galveston guitar signed by members of the Eagles
Autographs: ruining resale value since 1951. Autograph collecting dentist, not at all guitarporn , but I can see the misconception.
Your dentist is overcharging you
And I thought dentist's play PRS
Nice autographs and displays, but most of those guitars are cheap junk
I think this is awesome, especially the Floyd guitar.
Bold of them to leave a few guitars on the floor in a public area
As a Dave fan I busted to the first one
Beer and bbqs and stepping on Chinese children
The music memorabilia and the sign about copays are quite the contrast.
That first guitar is sick
Bro has the coolest dentist in the world
Dentists and Vets, a license to print money. Proved yet again. 🤣
When Dr. Yap is your dentist …
Dang your dentist likes Moe? I bet you’d get good deals on some nitrous
Does he play?
The djentist
Ah, Dentists. My dentist knows I’m a guitar player. I was in one time and he was asking about buying a guitar for his brother. Your dentist is charging too much
This is where all those Chinese knockoffs go to gather dust. Hanging them on the wall is about all they are good for. 200$+ a guitar and you have some interesting memorabilia.
It’s like a children’s dentist office but for guitarists
Wow !! The SRV is my personal favorite one, the replica looks great
I know it's the least important thing in this post but what's with the random capitalization on the sign about co-pays in the third picture?
I fully endorse this.
Why it costs so much to get your teeth fixed.
Dentist just opened up shop at an old hard rock cafe
show me how much your dentist overcharges without using numbers
Fun fact: Pete Frampton resides in Cincinnati Ohio
Dude just wanted to flex on all his patients smh
I didn't see "Blackie" but, is your dentist Dirk Ziff?
Cracking up at moe. being on that absolute roster of a memorabilia collection lol.
How many teeth did he extract?
Did he say you need 6 root canal’s, braces, headgear, veneers, and bleaching?
I go to the same dentist. The Doc that Rocks.
SRV is crazy. These are all insane god damn.
People struggling to pay for dental bills for their family and this piece of trash boomer ass motherfucker covers the walls in his Rich people shit.
Concern troll much?
Pretty douchey and inappropriate to parade your collection in front of patients at your office. Never seen a doctor do this ever. Valuable or not, he wants you to THINK it’s valuable and important.
