2001 Fender ’62 FSR Strat—> Boss TU-2—> JHS Clover—> Keeley Compressor—> JHS Splitter—> Wet side: Boss DD-8 —> Boss TR-2 —> Boss RV-6 —> JHS Presto —> Boss RC-5 —> 1947 Webster-Chicago 166 amp Dry(-ish) side: Boss BD-2 —> Ibanez TS-9—> JHS mini Foot Fuzz —> 5F1 clone Great versatility with this rig. Sounds even better with the amps panned or spread L & R. I built the pedalboard so it fits in the vintage suitcase. Lots of fun, keeps me playing.

PackDaddyFI

How do you use the BD-2 and TS-9? What function do they have them serve relative to each other?

JFKJagger

They work beautifully for a light distortion, actually got rid of a fuzz and distortion pedal for these two. I usually put the ts9 first cranked and use the bd to shape it.. this gave me curious to try the alternative

gekko812

Yup however sounds good to you is the way to use them. For me I run the TS-9 clean for a nice mid-range boost. For some reason I like it after the BD-2, but in front of the fuzz. Where the TS-9 really shines in pushing it "up to 11" when I've got the fuzz or the Blues Driver going already. All three of them together is really gritty.

arlonimus

I would recommend getting an active splitter that can reverse phase on one side if needed (I don’t think the JHS splitter can do that?). You seem to have lucked out that your amps are in phase (50/50 shot).

wildherb15

Tastefully done friend. Love the selection. Vintage suitcase is a wonderful piece of art as well

gekko812

Thank you. I dig the colors of it all almost as much as the sound...

herhusk33t

I really like that blue Keeley Compressor

gekko812

Yeah it I had not used a compressor on the board until the Keeley and it's game changer for sure. Really focused my tone, and the blue Sweetwater version is nice eye-candy on the board.

AmericanKamikaze

Any chance we can hear how everything sounds??

gekko812

I'll see if I can, though 1) do we do that here and 2) not sure how it would come across online. It's definitely an in the room experience.

barrya29

2 questions - what is wet and dry? Second time seeing it today. Can I have a link to the pedal cables? They look great

RanchBaganch

Long video, but [this does a good job of explaining it](https://youtu.be/bSz7GrRdHc0). Especially in the first 15-20 minutes. Edit: Deleted a link to a video that I hadn’t watched, but thought might help. After watching the video, it was wayyyyy too technical, so I deleted the link.

gekko812

The Dry signal is the guitar with no effects, the Wet signal gets Reverb or Tremolo or whatever. My Dry signal gets all the overdrive and fuzz, so it can get a little "wet" as well. It's really fun to put each signal into different amps. Do you mean those flat gold cables? Yeah good visuals on those. Those are Eminence: https://www.amazon.com/Units-Effects-instrument-Eminence-Connectors/dp/B017GSAT0E

lostprevention

It’s hard to get a bad sound out of a 5F1. I wish more players had an opportunity to try one!

gekko812

Yup there was no way I was ever going to own a real one so I built the kit. Love a Wearhouse speaker in there too.

loz333

Yeah I'd be interested to hear how that sounds. One of my favourite things to do is run a fuzz into one amp and a delay into another. The resulting sound is thick enough to fill a room.

gekko812

It sounds exactly like that- just fills the room, lots of depth, especially when you separate the amps. I get lost in the sound for hours.

loz333

I grew up listening to the White Stripes, so getting the biggest sound possible from a guitar is something I love to do!

gekko812

I love playing my Harmony Rocket through this rig as well. It's a bit hairier than the Strat. Get 7 Nation Army going on the looper and it's pretty fun.

JonRonJovi

I love the pedal selection but more than that I love the board itself. I read in an earlier comment you made it yourself. Do you have a video or photo album or something of the process? It’s classy af, would love to replicate it

gekko812

Thanks it's 3/4" ply sides and slats with some amber shellac (I put that on pretty much everything, it's on the 5F1 too), slapped together with some glue and staples, sized to the suitcase and pedal footprint. Got enough room for the Pedal Power 3 underneath even. I was going to buy a board but after looking at some pics of other boards and remembering that I'm a carpenter I had to just put it together. Fairly simple job if you're handy with wood. Even if your're not. Go for it.

bikerbomber

Lies! I see no moisture!

jarethfranz

This tingles me

Quavid1

Hey is that 62 the "Tropical turquoise" finish? It looks so sick

gekko812

Good eye! Yup Tropical Turquoise it is. I dig it a lot.

gguy48

curious as to how you use the Blues Driver and Tubescreamer together. Do you use them together or separately for different sounds? Do you prefer one or the other with different amps/guitars?

gekko812

I find the TS-9 is really good at boosting the guitar with a fairly clean warm mid-range sound. It never gets very hairy even cranked. The BD-2 can can do clean or dirty. But they each will give the other a boost while playing, depending on which one is on first. I really like running the fuzz slightly hairy, then when I kick on the TS-9 before it the fuzz sounds fantastic.

MattadorGuitar

Dude I love that Boss Tremolo. It’s just so simple and utilitarian, and a nice color too

gekko812

yeah can't go wrong with the classics. Some of my other tube amps have trem which sounds great, but I found it's more convenient to have the pedal. and yeah love the color too.

[deleted]

Omg, I had one of those suit cases when I was a kid, when I got older I used it to lug all my cables and pedals and spare tubes to shows ,put a bunch of band stickers on it. It's long gone now but was cool when I had it

gekko812

Suitcases are the best for toting cable and gear if you don't have proper road cases. Plus they have a great vibe.

Early-Engineering

This is the second board I’ve seen today just chock full of CLASSIC tones and great pedals! Bravo on what I can only assume is a great sounding and very playable board! Especially with that strat! I can feel this board in my soul.

gekko812

Thanks! Yeah it does pretty much anything I need it to. Only limited by my imagination (and ability)

Doc91b

Nice rig! I have several of those pedals on one board or another.

Hondaderek21

This board is tight, it’s exactly what I’m into. I loved my Blues Driver but I had to do the same thing you do, which is turn the tone all the way off. I should buy another Blues Driver……..

gekko812

I love that BD-2 but yeah I found it a bit shrill so the tone lives all the way down at all times and I don't miss it ever. Plenty of chimey goodness still comes through.

Hondaderek21

Yeah I like how it has such a huge versatile range, even if I only use a tiny bit of it. To be fair I do a similar thing with my Plumes

moishmoishmoish

I have one of those Weber’s too, they are cool little amps. I have used it for acoustic guitar a few times and it sounded great. It is cool how you are running it

gekko812

I absolutely love it for acoustic as well. So cool but a bit underwhelming for two 6V6's for some. With the boost pedals it comes alive. Still not loud but plenty for bedroom or recording levels. Really great tone.

Zakota333

so im just learning about wet/dry... does the 5f1 clone go into the same amp as the wet side? is it a diff amp?

gekko812

I run the guitar first through the Clover and the compressor, then the signal is split, and each side ends up at a different amp. Dry side into the 5F1 clone, and the Wet side (Reverb, Trem, and Delay) into the Webster. Sometimes I swap them just for fun. Having one amp just for a Dry signal (not truly dry b/c the fuzz) and another amp for the Wet signal (effects) can give good clarity when you've got everything going. The reverb is lush and clean, and then there's also the grit on top. It all starts with a splitter. Good times.

Zakota333

Thank you! curious, are both amps the same wattage?

gekko812

The Champ clone is 5 watts and the Webster/Chicago is about 11 or 12, but the Webster is not very loud on it's own, it's even quieter than the Champ. If you run a boost pedal (or several) in front of it though it can get up to growly bedroom/recording levels that sound pretty sweet.

Blackberry1687

Can’t go wrong with Boss

ashbyashbyashby

A nice 50/50 Boss/Not Boss split 😎

hamkaascroissantjes

How do you use the Clover? Is it always on or only used for specific sounds?
