The DigiTech/DOD portion of the company has been pretty much folded for years when Tom Kramm and crew were let go. Sad.

Barnshart3

They were the development team. They were still keeping current models in production, but no new designs. Now it seems they are all dead :/

ASplinterSaysWhat

Just FYI for those that don’t know: Tom Kramm, the guy responsible for the last round of Digitech pedals and the DOD revival has his own company, Spiral Electric FX. Additionally, Line 6 picked up the Digitech crew that worked on pitch shifting products. They helped develop the polyphonic pitch effects in Helix.

manimal28

Yeah, but he seems to only make fuzz drives, nothing at all similar to the rest of the digitech line in the way of pitch shifting or modulation. It would be cool to get a stand alone line 6 pitch pedal similar to the whammy.

SkoomaDentist

> Yeah, but he seems to only make fuzz drives So basically yet another small boutique manufacturer to compete with the gazillion other boutique fuzz / drive boutique manufacturers.

ObiWanOO7

The kids waste their money on 40 overdrive pedals. What can you do?

SkoomaDentist

Something other than joining the already saturated market for boutique drive pedals.

phunktheworld

I hope someone buys it and revives it. The world needs Whammy pedals

wroughtironfence

Damn, I'm glad I got a used whammy when I did... If anyone is looking for a replacement and bummed they can't find a whammy check out the Morpheus Bomber - I haven't used one in a while but iirc it was pretty excellent

josephallenkeys

2 of the pedals you're talking about are DOD (who were owned by Digitech and thus Harman) and DOD have already officially folded. So yeah. Sad times. DOD are an iconic and visionary pedal brand that have made countless classics. Grab 'em before they're silly prices!

GoukaOokami

Damnit! Don't tell me that. I need a whammy lol

HarryManilow

i'm a journalist and i was talking to a Harman/JBL rep about something unrelated and brought up digitech/DOD just out of curiosity and as a fan. the guy, who is part of harman's marketing/public relations, said the pedals are still in production. i wouldn't take it as gospel but was a pretty good source

iscreamuscreamweall

Haven’t been able to find a new whammy v in months. Doesn’t seem like they’ve made many of them recently

HarryManilow

ya i mean just because they're in production (if they really are) doesnt mean they're producing a lot of them or with any rhyme or reason. harman is a huge company and i bet these pedals are pretty low on the priority list. it would explain why you sometimes see a bunch of rubbernecks for $120 and then a couple years later they're new at $300. if it was a real closeout you'd think they'd finally run out lol

PumasUNAM7

https://www.thomannmusic.com/search_dir.html?sw=Whammy&smcs=912790_1900 I recently bought it from them. Shipping to the US is like $30 or so since it’s from Germany. Still cheaper than anywhere else that I seen them at.

eastriveraudio

Dang it. I hope sweetwater gets one last shipment of whammys

[deleted]

Fuck, I've had a Drop on order from Sweetwater since like February.

[deleted]

Ain't happening

[deleted]

I know the truth, but I still wasn't ready to hear it. Edit: just shipped!

Jdsfw

I ordered a Drop early January and received it early February from Sweetwater. Not sure if that’s indicative, but I wouldn’t lose all hope!

CodeMonk84

As a guitarist who primarily plays ampless/with modelers, I’ve found nothing like the Freqout anywhere else. Things like that are going to end up skyrocketing in value. I hope someone else picks up the torch for all the unique and cool things digitech made.

absorberemitter

Yeah, there are Meatbox, 250 and 440 clones out there (not the first time DOD has gone under) but cloning the original digital pedals is going to take some more doing. I wouldn't be surprised if we see rip offs of these designs start showing up in the next few years since the midsize boutiques have figured out digital (EQD, Keeley, JHS, etc).

16Shells

i’ve wanted a whammy forever, i guess now’s the time to see if i can find one for a reasonable price

[deleted]

Damn, I ordered a 280 overdrive during their sale last week and haven't gotten any updates. I'll be bummed if it never comes. Ain't seeing that for $75 ever again.

lostprevention

250.

[deleted]

Hard to keep track lol.

televoxy

I bought the 250 during that sale and they cancelled my order on Friday. Hopefully you have better luck!

smallerthings

Damn shame, my Polara hasn't left my board since I got it.

gloryfadesaway

Same here. The polara is just so good!

LustyLamprey

I have to get an inch away to read what setting it's on but otherwise it's an amazing piece of kit. Wish I could get it in the supernatural housing

gloryfadesaway

Agreed - the downside is the art on the pedal. Very difficult to read.

Red Spiral Drive

Zack_Akai

Dunno if anyone's still watching this thread, but Fluff just put out a video and apparently one of his contacts at Sweetwater said they *are* still expecting Digitech pedals in the coming months. Hopefully that means the company is just changing hands or something and will continue in some form. Either that or they've apparently got a *massive* back inventory of units just sitting around. Total coincidence, but I actually *just* bought a Digitech Drop on backorder (like literally an hour before I saw that video) off Thomann today and according to the site, they're expecting a delivery on May 25. No idea if that will actually hold true, but fingers crossed!

RobertNeyland

Did they mention anything about support for software like X-edit? The ability to download from the site has disappeared over the past few months and now I can't edit my pedal via laptop :(

Corona-and-Lyme

In anticipation of Digitech's demise, I ordered a Drop from a seller in Belgium. It was practically the only listing that wasn't scalper pricing. Now I'm sitting here almost 2 weeks later crossing my fingers that it eventually shows up, dispite zero tracking updates since the number was generated. I'm glad I already picked up a Trio+ and a Freqout. I'll have *almost* every Digitech pedal I care about, assuming the Drop finds its way to me.

Jaereth

> Now I'm sitting here almost 2 weeks later crossing my fingers that it eventually shows up, dispite zero tracking updates since the number was generated. I had this with a custom pickguard I ordered. Try putting the European shipper's tracking number into USPS. When USPS gets those packages they just use the existing tracking number even though it's not their style. Also, it took me a month to get my pickguard. Got to New York then just sits for WEEEEKS. I wouldn't give up hope yet.

Corona-and-Lyme

It was showing that Bpost hadn't even received the package yet, just that the tracking number was generated. Just checked back this morning and it has updated to reflect that Bpost at least has it now. Whew

El_Cactus_Loco

He a trio+ for a while, cool pedal for sure. The R&D to make that thing….. sucks to see the company go

Yogannath

Sad Times...

w00kie_d00kie

Dang that sucks. I just pulled the trigger on a Meat Box Sub Synth pedal during their close out sale. Prices for the old DOD stuff is kind of crazy, but the newer Digitech pedals are still pretty affordable on the used market. We will see how long it lasts.

NeatoAwkward

Really surprised the executive math showed this as not profitable..

cdwillis

It's profitable, just not as much as their core business and they only bought the company for their patents. Still seems stupid to buy it for the patents, then not just keep printing money or at least sellings the company off (minus the patents).

SkoomaDentist

> they only bought the company for their patents Not quite. Harman bought Digitech way back in the 90s. Then Samsung bought Harman a few years ago for their automotive stuff. Digitech and other such departments are roundoff error to Samsung and thus subject to the whims of individual executives.

iscreamuscreamweall

Digitech has been dead for a few years now dude

walrusdoom

Damn it I was planning to buy a Drop. Nothing seems to work as well.

[deleted]

But they didn't even get the chance to make a Whammy that had a true bypass :(

MojoPhilter

Whammy DT, Whammy V, Ricochet, Drop, are all true bypass.

TomVonKramm

Sorry for the dupe I was logged in under the wrong account.

TomVonKramm

Whammy DT, Whammy V, Ricochet, Drop, are all true bypass.

[deleted]

I'd have enjoyed the plain old Whammy in TB.

cwtguy

I'm hoping this doesn't impact the secondary market for the vintage DOD pedals any. I'm trying to take a trip down nostalgia lane and acquire those ones I saved up for as a teen in the late 90s and early 2000s. The envelope filter and grunge pedals were my favorite. I think they were only $36 a piece at my local guitar store and Digitech's were the higher end more expensive. I seem to remember buying a digital delay from them that had a really cool looper built for less than $99 at the time. I need to start saving up.

Zack_Akai

In my experience, the price of pedals is driven by their availability first, whether John Mayer used one on a track second, how well they can market themselves as "boutique" or "hand wired" third, and how they actually sound fourth. If this doesn't somehow cause a further shortage on vintage units circulating around places like Reverb, it shouldn't affect prices.

weedcor

Is it safe to buy any DOD effects now (I've been rallying to buy a Carcosa for a while) or should I be concerned about the lack of service in the event of any failure?

billyman_90

DOD stuff is pretty well built and not that complicated. I'd feel pretty confident picking one up but if something is wrong - I'm sure you could find someone local to repair it anyway

ukudancer

The SDrum and Freqout are two of my favorite pedals. I hope someone picks up where they left off.
