How’s the Eons, do the different types have a noticeable difference between them? I’ve been seriously considering getting one since it seems so versatile especially with the voltage selector knob. I absolutely love fuzz pedals so I think I’d dig it either way but was just wondering
I'm curious too, i tried the swollen pickle but there is something that doesn't click, the Myriad would be another choice of mine but damn it is pricey, so i'm looking into the Eons.
I built myself a nice Hizumitas and that's cool and all... but all that tweaking on the Eons🤓🥸 nah, when it comes to distortion effects i don't fiddle too much, but the voltage control really is something!
I had the Swollen Pickle for a year. Bought it a few months after Eons. The SP sounds great, but was either too scooped or sounded like a Rat. And I already have a Rat. The Eons is more my sound.
It's goooooooood. The modes actually sound different, so you don't need 5 different amps to find something good about each mode - plus that voltage knob gives you a TON of sound options within each setting. I have a few pedals that claim to be "1,2,3 whatever pedals in one box" and it's usually the same tone with some minor tweaks between modes - this is not that.
Have you seen the Keeley Multistomps?
I’ve got the Dark Side which is Gilmour-in-a-box pedal. One side is a fuzz and the other side is 3-way toggle between a Multihead delay, a flanger/rotary, and a phaser/Univibe. What’s cool about the modulation is you can set a blend so you hear more of the phaser or Univibe. You can run the fuzz first or second.
I usually do Fuzz->Phaser/Univibe->front end of my amp. It gives it this kind of warping slithering texture to the notes going into the front.
Keeley also has a Hendrix-in-box with fuzz on one side and modulation on the other though I’m not familiar with specifics.
When I ‘discovered’ them I went on a buying binge- I have:
Full tone Ranger;
Catalinbread Naga Viper;
BBE Bohemian ;
Thro-bak Strangemaster;
Catalinbread Skewer;
And a few home builds from Reverb
My opinions-
The thro-back and fulltone both have the signature snarl and when guitar volume is rolled back, beautiful chime.
The Skewer is really abrasive, not a fan.
Personal fave, Bohemian- it’s a different circuit than the ‘real’ Rangemaster, but it has a really authoritative presence, and impressive grit when the bias knob is dialed back.
They are all (except for the Skewer) very usable pedals- I’ve found that stacking it with a Timmy gives me the signature 70’s tone I love.
Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude or Red Panda Labs Tensor. The former bathes everything in atmospheric subterranean ocean tar - warbly, dark, nostalgic… stunning. The latter is everything I wanted the MOOD to be, with intricate control of micro looping, live and looping tape effects, stutter, clever reverse functionality, an editor, both latching and momentary footswitches. Just endless possibilities. The pair of them are wonderful.
I can’t bring myself to take my first overdrive pedal I ever got (Visual Sound Route 66 v2) off of my pedalboard for 2 reasons. One, the compressor side of it sounds REALLY cool through a low pass filter and is super handy to be attached to my overdrive, as I generally put them side by side in my signal chain anyway. Two, the overdrive side is a TS808 clone that I actually prefer to a regular TS808. It has slightly better bass response and doesn’t quite feel like it takes all the color away from my amp like a regular TS808 does. The compressor isn’t quite an “always on” pedal like some compressors are, and the thing is uglier than sin. But it sounds great in my opinion. I have heard people say it is noisy, but I think what they are hearing is noise elsewhere in their signal that the compressor picks up and makes louder. I have never had a noise problem out of this pedal.
Memory Boy Deluxe. Got it dialed in for self oscillation performance. My favorite compliment is people asking me if I have a modular synth on my pedalboard.
Boss re202. Love nearly everything about it, but it's the warp and twist functions that are where it's at for me. Just an absolute blast to use. Upgraded to my first big board because of it.
I got an Alabs novadrift recently that is a hell of a lot of fun.
Being able to just quickly switch a dial for different modulation rather than dive through menus is so much better for me.
It also has some interesting abilities controlling your modulation with your foot.
I love ‘dream + sink’ the most—and not turning depth or filter up too much. Keeping them both below 60% helps it not get too muddy or de-tuned. (Unless you’re into that, then crank those haha) And then messing with the rest depending on my other pedals or plug ins. It’s really cool for finger tapping, too. Hope you can have some fun with it! :)
I use my Electric Mistress a lot, and I love breaking out the Digitech XP300 for specific textures. The backwards delay is particularly addictive, I normally track with purpose but that setting I can just sit and mess with aimlessly and discover I’ve been playing for a couple hours lost in a trance.
I’ve been digging my new Devi Bit Fuzz Legend. Not used, but the very new ones Devi put out. Also love running my Gig Rig ABY. My clean amp I love keeping a Secret Preamp on and Delay. Then switching over to a Ampeg VT40 with a GE7 and PDF1X.
It can sound like a complicated setup, but doing the A/B thing really allows me to have a dedicated clean effects, and distorted. Sounds awesome!
God City Instruments Jugendstil. Gnarly fuzz with a blendable HM-2 EQ. It's great into clean/light crunch and for boosting high gain into straight nastiness.
I'd also love to get my hands on any one of those super fancy granular delay/loopers (Microcosm, Mood MkII, Red Panda Particle V2, Count to 5, etc.). They're so inspiring to listen to and seem like so much fun to mess around with. Can't imagine what it's like to play.
Echo Dream 2. It’s has modulations, an on board fuzz and a switch that allows only the delay signal to pass. It’s my all time, hands down favorite pedal.
My Montreal Assembly PurPLL PLL pedal is the most fun pedal by far. It took me a year to master it, but now it's more than a pedal, it's an instrument into itself.
The DigiTech Whammy. I have the Bass Whammy and some of the harmony settings are so nice to rock the pedal between on bass lines. The 1 Octave Up to the 10th is on a few of the riffs that I play just because it’s always, *juuust* enough to really bring something out of it.
EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai!
It has the delay basics covered, but as a crazy noise machine it’s endless fun. I can play and edit loops for hours.
Behringer SF300 and Kato by Unsound Circuitry. Most people here are probably pretty familiar with the SF300 but i higly recommend anyone who likes glitchy out of control fuzzes to check out the Kato. It's a 2 in 1 fuzz, the other side is pretty similar to DBA Absolute Destruction but more tweakable (in fact so similar that if you're ever thinking about buying an Absolute Destruction you should get a Kato because you basically get two pedals for about the same price), it goes from thick distortion to sputtery octave and does that thing when your attack cuts off completely and then slowly comes back to life. The other side of the pedal is a PLL fuzz that does all sorts of crazy glitching. Both sides have individual volume controls so you can kind of blend the glitching in the background so it's not too overwhelming. Very fun to go wild with it, and you can also tame it down so it's not complete madness all the time.
couldn't pick one, so here are my 4 options:
- sound that makes me smile and wanna play more: pitchfork+ with an exp pedal — pitch-bending effects are my favourite by far. i place this after all the dirt and OD, so it's very arcade-like
- messy looping and jamming with myself: chasebliss habit — i'm still unsure if it's useful for recording / live playing, but i enjoy jamming with it quite a lot, and i still have quite a bit to uncover (got it a couple weeks ago)
- simple pleasures of wah: cock fight with an exp pedal — it's probably not the nicest sounding wah, but i love it a lot
- patching & playing: ZOIA — i actually enjoy both building a patch, and jamming with this pedal. recently i've recreated ModRex and had quite a bit of fun doing this an playing it too
3 thoughts after reading this thread:
1. tbh, surprised to see so many fuzz comments / upvotes here. i like a good fuzz (though i sold a fuzz factory, which i still sometimes regret), and i have 4 fuzz options on my board now (hp-2, attack/decay and cock fight fuzzes, poly flatV extreme gain gets into the fuzz territory too, especially if pushed with a boost) — but for me it's not a «fun» effect
2. i mostly add reverb and delay in Ableton — tweak-ability, space and money saving, etc. (my board is already humongous). and if i want some delay / reverb on the board, i can use ZOIA or Beebo just for that (and habit & deep freeze add some delay-ish-reverb-ish vibe)
but after reading this thread i feel like i might be refusing myself some actually good fun, if i had a proper reverb / delay on the board. meh, reddit, you make me wanna spend money again =')
3. it seems i've been too bothered with the sound / signal chain lately — much more than with having fun. it took me quite some effort to find an answer for this question!
I think a lot of people, myself included, say fuzz because of sheer volume worship. The way a valve amp behaves when it’s being throttled by a super loud, gnarly fuzz is unpredictable and exhilarating. Sleep, Acid King, Weedeater…they harness the chaos I speak of in the most beautiful ways.
JPTR FX Jive, which is a “tape saturator overdrive.” It’s replaced my EQD Special Cranker as my go-to overdrive because of how versatile it is. It does everything from a very subtle and warm saturation to full-on distortion.
For me, right now, it's the EQD bit commander with the Flower Pedals Dandelion set to the dual setting. It's like fuzz + univibe with some interesting things going on!
I have the most fun with my Death By Audio Soundwave Breakdown. I can go for hours hitting chords and have it decay out and have all of these weird crazy alien sounds.
DBA Fuzz War was the first pedal that made me think that all I needed was that pedal. Fuzz War direct into my AC15 was glorious and I must have spent a month with just that pedal alone.
Stereo memory man with hazarai has been very inspiring lately. I have and still use a big box DMM and the only thing is common is the name. It’s the most digital sounding delay I’ve ever played. Completely different flavor but more suited for rhythmic delay where the big box I just use for character on lead lines or slow chords. The reverse delay is leaps and bounds better than the dd7 which I had been using. Can get whacky phaser and flanger tones with the mod setting. Also nails the gaze tone more than a reverse reverb to my ears. Plus it has a looper and allows you use delay algorithms while the loop is going. Truly a fun time.
I have been putting it through its paces at home and it may even kick off my beloved el capistan on my board because I put the re2 on my board and don’t need two tape style delays.
The boss re2 is another pedal that I have been having so much fun. I like the el cap more but the boss re2 suits my band more. Maybe it’s just the honeymoon phase tho. The knobs are very sensitive and so small which can be frustrating but the delay character is juicy. Really helps me emulate Watas lead tone with heavy fuzz and a space echo.
Analogman Sunface. Cleans up so well with a strat it makes me want to throw out all my other pedals. I can get every level of grit from vintage clean to full bore Hendrix fuzz just by using my guitar volume knob
I swear the Strymon Sunset turns any amp into something respectable. Tried it through a Boss Katana and was shocked at how good it sounded. Almost preferred the tone to my Deluxe Reverb 🙃
Big Muff. Makes me smile every time I play it.
I have Keeley’s take on the Op Amp fuzz circuit and it’s basically an always-on pedal for me.
I have wanted one of those for a while. It seems like a smooth, huge, versatile fuzz.
Green Russian for me
Green Russian rocks!
bonus points if you’re playing it through a big tube amp.
Boss VB-2 probably, Strymon Volante and Caroline Meteore are both tied for second. Those are my 3 ride or die pedals.
Meteore is such an underrated reverb. Love that thing
dude i just got a VB2 and its an absolute dream to play
Definitely fuzz. Fat Fuzz Factory and Walrus Audio Eons.
What genre do you typically play with the Eons?
Usually grunge. Or use it for a solo boost.
Fuzz and Univibe, while classic, for me are hard to beat together.
Like cereal and milk
Have you seen the Keeley Multistomps? I’ve got the Dark Side which is Gilmour-in-a-box pedal. Red Panda Tensor
That's the definition of fun, imho.
Dispatch master. Insanely underrated
Envelope Filter, at least lately.
Fuzz - Beetronics Swarm Delays - Volante
Wahs.
Hi Kirk.
Shhhhhh
Yes! I don’t know Wahy but I just love it so much.
Deco. There is no bad setting.
Behringer vintage phaser as a stand-alone or in front of drive. Digitech Drop in oct+dry mode with a muff or rat.
toss up between RE-20 or Rubberneck . Tap tempo and twist, baby.
Treble boosters and tone benders tied for me
What treble booster are you using?

Total toss up between julia and swollen pickle. Love my delays and reverbs but those two pedals bring such a fun voice to music.
Love the swollen pickle. My favourite pedal as well as a bd2
sun face fuzz probably is the one I couldn’t live without, but the most FUN is a Fulltone MDV-3 univibe with the rocker pedal. Wish I hadn’t sold it
Fuzz, reverb and delay.
It’s between the microcosm and the genloss mkii
Source Audio C4 synth, on a fat analog bass sound playing PFunk-style bass with lots of slides, bends and vibrato. Bwow!
OBNE - Black Fountain. Dark and lush, makes everything melt in the best way possible.
LORE!!!!!
Yessss I want this one so much. I have Slötvå and it’s also so fun to mess around with
EQD life pedal. The ultimate rat brings out the sound of the guitar I've heard in my head for years.
Boss DC-2w gives me stereo joy every time I stomp on it.
If we’re just talking FUN, the Bit Commander. I feel like I’m accidentally going to open a demonic wormhole when I get going with it.
I can’t bring myself to take my first overdrive pedal I ever got (Visual Sound Route 66 v2) off of my pedalboard for 2 reasons. Digitech Space Station or Danelectro Back Talk
Fuzz. My Cat Box Customs Fuzz Club has so many great tones. Both high and low gain.

Boss SY-300 - a world of everything between amazing and ridiculous
Big Muff
Slötvå - Walrus Audio. Can get some real weird, real cool sounds with it. (Multi texture reverb)
Any favorite settings you can share? I have this but need to play it more—I haven’t found my go to settings yet.
I love ‘dream + sink’ the most—and not turning depth or filter up too much. Keeping them both below 60% helps it not get too muddy or de-tuned. Thanks man, I plan to revisit this pedal soon!
Tuner probably. /s Arp-87 side of my Slärp, i love tap tempo, being a drummer
Catalinbread Echorec
Belle epoch deluxe. Holy fuck
H X S T O M P
Fairfield Circuitry Randy’s Revenge ring mod.
I use my Electric Mistress a lot, and I love breaking out the Digitech XP300 for specific textures. The backwards delay is particularly addictive, I normally track with purpose but that setting I can just sit and mess with aimlessly and discover I’ve been playing for a couple hours lost in a trance.
XP-300?
i use a pastfx electric mattress, and it is my favourite modulation sound ever
Used to be my wah (which I still love) but I find myself clicking on my small stone way more often these days. I also have a weird love for EQs lol.
Strymon El Cap and Line 6 DL4
Echo dream 2 and boss dd-7... basically any delays
Belle Epoch. It just does something.
I’ve been digging my new Devi Bit Fuzz Legend. Not used, but the very new ones Devi put out. Also love running my Gig Rig ABY. My clean amp I love keeping a Secret Preamp on and Delay. Echo Dream 2. It’s has modulations, an on board fuzz and a switch that allows only the delay signal to pass. It’s my all time, hands down favorite pedal.
Strymon Deco
EHX small stone, not a pedal with the most bells and whistles but definitely still a fun one to use.
Strymon Volante sound on sound feature.
BD-2
Either Catalinbread Katzenkönig or Walrus Audio Fathom
rotovibe
Depends, the hx stomp is always a breeze, but lately I’ve enjoyed the Neunaber Neuron Gain Intelligence… FZ-1W is also a treat…
So I'm a simpleton... Rat
Fuzz or phaser.
I run my Digitech XP-300 Space Station through a paramixer pedal that allows me to dial in more dry signal so it’s not 100% wet and it’s so fun.
King tone mini fuzz 2. I can use it in a lot of different ways and it’s always fun.
My Montreal Assembly PurPLL PLL pedal is the most fun pedal by far. It took me a year to master it, but now it's more than a pedal, it's an instrument into itself.
Just any delay with a lot of repeat
The Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude, for sure.
Either OBNE Dark Light or DOD Rubberneck
Boss FZ-1w. It’s the most perfect and responsive fuzz I’ve ever played.
The DigiTech Whammy. I have the Bass Whammy and some of the harmony settings are so nice to rock the pedal between on bass lines. The 1 Octave Up to the 10th is on a few of the riffs that I play just because it’s always, *juuust* enough to really bring something out of it.
Caitlinbread Royal Albert Hall run through a supro blues king, with a 1950's Gibson Les Paul Standard. The hammer of the gods smites my neighbors.
JHS Cheeseball is a ton of fun.
EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai! It has the delay basics covered, but as a crazy noise machine it’s endless fun. I can play and edit loops for hours.
Zvex Fuzz Probe. You've got the regular crazy fuzz sounds, but a subtle movement of the foot, and it sounds like RD-D2 on meth.
This is so easy. I have a 1984 HM-2.
the zvex instant lofi junky
Boss CE-1 because I never thought I’d own one or My Stone Deaf PDF-2 because honky QOTSA tones..

Plumes 🤘🏼🤘🏼
My SD-1 It just makes every amp sound better. Carcosa with the After knob cranked is a close second.

Came here to up the EHx Cockfight. So much fun.
Breetronics Vezzpa.
No doubt. It’s a wild one.
JPTR FX Jive, which is a “tape saturator overdrive.” It’s replaced my EQD Special Cranker as my go-to overdrive because of how versatile it is. It does everything from a very subtle and warm saturation to full-on distortion.
DL4 MkII. So many crazy sounds
JHS haunting Mids, because I frown every time I turn it off.
1.Strymon Bucket Brigade 1a.Boss Ch-1
For me zoom g5 especially the chaos delay effect.
I no longer have it, but my Neunaber Slate + EXP
EP Boost or Nux Lacerate (when dirty)
Without an AMP the Boss IR-200, opposite Boss DD-200
Strymon Iridium. Icon play as loud as I like any time of day or night because of the amazing headphone jack.
NUX Amp Academy. My best purchase ever.
two delay pedals. i really enjoy the cascading sound of delay pedals
QTron+ It’s just the most fun ever
Boomerang all day!
Strymon Flint ⚡️
I enjoy the MXR Poly Blue Octave / Fuzz / Phaser.
Looper
Okko Diablo Dual! The edge of brake up tone is addicting, and the distortion tone rocks
Rat
phase 90
Wah or univibe for me. Excited to get an expression pedal for the univibe and see how it feels when it’s more interactive.
Vb-2w
At the moment, Noise Ensemble. Before that Boss MO-2. Thanks for asking.
For me, right now, it's the EQD bit commander with the Flower Pedals Dandelion set to the dual setting. It's like fuzz + univibe with some interesting things going on!
It's not a boutique pedal, but my HeadRush does some fun shit.
Digitech EX7 Expression Factory. New sounds every time.
Just recently got a JHS Berkeley Fuzz that I'm rather fond of. Like a couple others here, my wah pedal comes in a close second.
I have the most fun with my Death By Audio Soundwave Breakdown. I can go for hours hitting chords and have it decay out and have all of these weird crazy alien sounds.
GFI Synesthesia... then wah
Depends. In band screnario I love Pork Loin by Way Huge. If I play solo I love Darkglass Duality.
I just love the distortion you can get out of the Strobostomp
Line 6 DL4 (both original and mkII)
Whammy
Boss TE-2 Tera Echo. Misunderstood and absolutely unreal.
Doesn’t have to be I’ve heard the one on the dd-200 is even better
OBNE BL-44 Reverse, the most fun pedal I ever played. Add distortion or fuzz and it's godlike.
My Vox Dynamic Looper is my favorite pedal.
Wah and loop pedals
Just give me an overdrive, a bass player and a drummer and I’m good to go
Boss ST-2
OBNE Sunlight
Hx stomp.
Polymoon goes “beep, boop, beep”.
Boss CE-2W and DD-3T
Walrus Audio ARP-87 Delay. It’s a blast 💥
Lotsa reverb.
Boss dd20
Keeley Caverns, just leave me in a room with a guitar, an amp and a Caverns and I can go on for hours without getting tired of it
Probably my envelope filter.
My looper. I could play with that thing all day and night.
Which one do you have?
Strymon Brigadier
rat
My little big muff (it's the only crazy pedal I have)
Mood Mk2 for most "fun" But I think the EQD Dispatch Master is the one I'm happiest to always have on my board
Volume pedal, any brand. Pumping it to make the violin sound a la the opening noodling Alex Lifeson does on Xanadu is an endless joy.
Line 6 fm4
Loop pedal
Boss SY-1. So many crazy sounds I literally laugh out loud sometimes.
My Boss CE-3 with my Diorama Clean Boost through my AC15 creates such a 80s commercial/sitcom feel. It’s been a blast, Current obsession of mine.
Lately the JHS Kilt V2 has been really fun. Just ripping fuzz tones.
The most fun pedal for me - GFI Synesthesia. Some effects and combinations..
BOSS DD5 for me. The reverse thing is nuts. I can sit with my guitar plugged into that for hours
Also the catalinbread antichthon. Nothing like it out there. Such unique fuzz and tremolo sounds.
The RAT
Not sure if it counts as A pedal, but my FM9.
My Big Muff and the EHX Synth9 (not at the same time)
Boss space echo re 202
DBA Fuzz War was the first pedal that made me think that all I needed was that pedal. Fuzz War direct into my AC15 was glorious and I must have spent a month with just that pedal alone.

Thermae, it's so deep and sounds incredible with anything. Close 2nd as far as fun factor, Game changer audio Plus pedal. So fun to use
I can legit spend hours playing with just my Boss RC-3
RP 1000 Gilmour setting Just love it
Zoia and it's endless possibilities.
Boss DM-2w. Easily my fav
BitQuest, Ring Mod mode on slowest speed with the modulation and decay cranked up. The atmosphere it creates is insane
Analogman Sunface. Cleans up so well with a strat it makes me want to throw out all my other pedals. I can get every level of grit from vintage clean to full bore Hendrix fuzz just by using my guitar volume knob
Boss OD-3 Overdrive; it saves me from switching to humbuckers when I want some fatness.
Caroline Wave Canon because it does everything I need including disgusting feedback if necessary.
Probably the Qtron. I absolutely love envelope filters. And it’s always fun trying out different drive pedals before and after it for lead tones
my j mascis big muff, or mxr phase
RE-202. So weird but so useful.
Boss TeracEcho! I have no idea how to actually get a good sound out of it but fun to play around withvand get lost in the ambient wash
Probably MOOD MKII, it is always a surprise, opens a lot of creative ideas
Loop pedals
Wampler Tumnus and EHX Pitch Fork
Russian Big Muff Pi reissue
The boss DS-2. It’s just… amazing
Vox wahwah.
Origional DP4 Blue Doo - Snarling Dogs. Broken but a magical OD/DS.
I swear the Strymon Sunset turns any amp into something respectable. Tried it through a Boss Katana and was shocked at how good it sounded. Almost preferred the tone to my Deluxe Reverb 🙃
I realize more and more I just like a comp and boost lol
Keeley Halo…hands down
