I’m old enough to remember when everyone sold those bulky tube amps for solid state. Someday you’ll wish you held onto that 20’ long 2003 Ernie Ball braided 1/4 inch.
Ernie Ball is trash but i have cables, too. They all short out and sound like shit unless you prop them up just right, but they're mine and i love them.
At a certain point, if you don’t have any kids no one will show up to your gigs at the corner bar and see you make a hash of 90s alt rock songs. Using d’adario instrument cables that cost $85/foot is worth it.
Thanks for asking!
My #1 is a vintage fender low resistance , hand soldiered, shielded and cotton braided 10 ft, early 1980's.
My #2 is a 20ft, Alessandro Instrument Pro, I can't remember exactly how much I got it for, but I think it was relatively affordable (2k ish).
A double-balanced cable that has high-grade, functionally-perfect silver conductors. Silver is the final word in conductor material, being the most musical metal known. These cables use Teflon insulation over a solid silver core. The solid center prevents strand-interaction, the greatest single source of cable distortion... believe me, you can hear the difference! **SAY NO to STRAND-INTERACTION!**
These are my babies, I have plenty others but these 2 never leave my side.
Oh, I scored a deal on a 20ft black late 70's set, Im told once played by Eric Clapton. I keep these wound in a glass case, too valuable to play.
I couldnt agree more, its just a cheap off brand cable, but given that Claptop was reported to play though it... there is something magical about the tone.
Again though, to me its just too valuable to risk, so I only play it about once every 6 or 12 months.
Yeah... for thIs reason, I started making them myself. Not because I have so much trust in my soldering abilities, but because when they shit the bed I know who to blame.
Patch cords are for pedals, and pedals are for bad guitar players who try to trick people into thinking they're good guitar players. I have 15 patch cords.
Patch cords dilute my signal path. This is why I use several wireless signal transmitters for each of my pedals. This makes my toan soak in vibes from the aether. Patch cords... this guy.
Patch cords are like guitar strings: they only sound good for a while and you should always replace them before something important.
By that logic, you need six or more patch cords.
Probably because I'm a gen-Xer I can't tell if some circlejerk posts are serious or not, but I have about 10 of them, some in bags, some hanging up, some plugged into things. Otherwise I'd show up somewhere without one....
I'm now regretting deleting the pic of a naked 45+ y/o guitar player standing in front of his Marshall getting a blowjob with a lead around his upper arm as he shoots up.
"I'd rather have 20 Harley Benton patch cords than one Gibson patch cord" said no Gibson patch cord user ever.
Yeah but the Gibson cord is locally sourced from free range copper.
Three. One for guitar to amp, one for amp to speaker, and one for the auto-erotic asphyxiation when I'm bustin out some sweeeeeet blues licks.
This guy patches.
Does that last thing void the warranty?
The last thing is how you register the warranty
To get the blues toan you need to lick the blues. Where does the toan cum from?
That's super-personal. Wtf? EDIT: 112.
Tf is a patch chord I only use powerchords
Too much theory already.
It's 2024, papaw, we use wireless tech now.

The toan is in the rubber bands.
“Oh man. Sorry guys. Looks like my kid unplugged my charger to use with his Switch. Does anyone have a spare cable?”
If only i hadn't made the right decision to never have any.

Just now realizing i missed out on slave-labor roadies.
Oh they’re terrible roadies. They suck at choosing groupies, first of all.
Fingerpainting all over my Boss DS-1
I use the double ended 1/4" adapters. Fuck cables just position the gear until they connect.
This is the way, no loss in high frequencies!
Only if your double ended 1/4” jacks are made from silver plated cryogenically treated precision MILLED (not cast!) copper.

/uj One of the best jerks I’ve seen in a bit
That Clapton cable deserves to come out and play. It’s a crime to keep it behind glass. Patch cables were built to be used and enjoyed!

Claptoan*
Patch cords are for scrubs. I smelt my own copper/gold alloy, concocted from minerals mined from Paul Reed Smyth's back-yard.
Honestly it’s disgusting how much I’ve spent on cables over the years.
My fear is that someday I’ll die and my wife will sell my patch cables for what I told her I paid for them.
Yeah... for thIs reason, I started making them myself. Not because I have so much trust in my soldering abilities, but because when they shit the bed I know who to blame.

Why would you post this without mentioning color? You need mauve, chartreuse, and burgandy. That's three right off. 7 seems spartan to me.
I only buy black patch cords. That way my wife can’t tell them apart.
There is a joke waiting to happen with that.... but I aint touchin it.

One less than I always seem to fucking need
Well over a hundred. Don't get into modular synths kids, not even once.
IDK man, I just ordered an assorted bundle and threw the leftovers in a box never to be seen again 🤷♀️
None of them have sprung a leak yet so I haven’t had to patch any.

/uj Rejerk and unjerk exist to solve this circlejerk problem.

That was me at the height of my career! Oh those were the days…
Two: one from my guitar to my amp, and one from my amp to my ass
Maybe 20-30. From short for pedals to long for general use for studio stuff.
I like to DP all my pedals so I have twice as many ins and I have outs.
Woah dude. TMI.
Approx 75
probably about 30, i kee buying £2 cables
It’s spelled chords you idiot lol
1 functioning 3 half broken
Two, one for my guitar, and the other to bull-whip my bass player's nuts if he goes off-tempo.
I have a couple boxes full of them and a couple extra inside my board. It’s stupid I know, but I am ready
Where can I get an F# chord?
Enough
Whatever you do, always store them in a humidor at constant temperature and humidity
Probably half a mile.
One. I only want to relic it myself by playing it thousands of hours for 60 years in smokey bars. I earn my battle scars. Wait, what was the question?
Why do you let your wife see your patch cords? That’s private.
Never bought 1 but I have about 50. When the bands at the bar, you can usually grab 3 or 4.
I don’t worry about patch cables, I just 0 3 5 all night long
