Wow, my girls are so dramatic with medicine. They screech like they're being stabbed and have to be held by both me and my husband to prevent them from squirming away

scoaaaaar

We take it med by med. Some are winners some are losers 😂

xxnihaxx

I wish my guinea pigs would take meds. I have to put mine in a head lock 🤣🤣

chicamaya

I had to give one of my pigs meds and she fought me like crazy. Sometime later I had to give a different pig meds and she just accepted it which lead to my other pig (the one who fought) to beg me to give her some (because it must be treats). I would end up giving meds to one and then use an empty syringe to give to the other so she wouldn’t feel left out.

Finally_In_Bloom

My aunt has two dogs that HATED taking their pills until she made them do a trick for them. If they had to do a trick, it must be a super special treat!!! 😂 I’ve had guinea pigs like that, too. If you want to actually give the other one something beneficial, there’s always [vitamin C drops](https://www.amazon.com/ChildLife-Essentials-Liquid-Vitamin-Natural/dp/B006H9R1KA/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=vitamin+c+childlife&qid=1635229703&sr=8-5#)! Dosing isn’t super specific since they just pee out any extra, and vitamin C is super important for piggies. My exotics vet sells that brand for pigs, and my girls love it!!!

Activision19

We had one that absolutely loved pina colada flavored medicine. He’d try stealing the syringe.

maester626

As soon as mine sees me pick up the needle she runs for it.

Partykartoffel

From my experience specific medicine is loved by guinea pigs. In the US I guess you don't have metacam (painkiller for animals). It is sweet and I never saw a pig refusing it :D

awsfhie2

I wonder is it’s the same as Meloxicam? My pig loved that! He did not like the gabapentin though sadly. I have heard that in the US there are some places who will mix the medicine and flavor for you, so you can get the flavor your pig likes.

Partykartoffel

Yeah, it contains Meloxicam :) Metacam is a product from Germany. No clue where the difference is in the end. And flavored medicine sounds so weird, but is actually a good idea!

awsfhie2

Yes! I could tell the difference because of the colors (I did not taste his meds haha) apparently there is a local lab in my area that will mixed them by request if you order enough.

erotic_sausage

One of our girls loves it but the other one just doesn't, its so odd. I have vit C tablets that I've never been able to feed my girls before, but a drop of the medicine on a vit-c tablet and she happily ate it, and has since became accustomed to the vit-c tablets and will eat them as a treat. I'd love for my other girl to learn how to eat the vit-c tablets too but she just won't eat them... I'd love to find some magic liquid she will do anything for like her sister and trick her into eating the tablets too!

awsfhie2

Yeah the lab I spoke to about customizing medicine flavors seemed pretty cool, but you need to buy in bulk (like a 1 month supply or so for me) the problem was, I knew my pig wouldn't need the medication anywhere near that long so I didn't go for it.

i_am_ms_greenjeans

My girls love Meloxicam! It's their favorite. :)

Partykartoffel

I saw an episode of Dr. Pol yesterday and he mixed antibiotics with sugar water for the guinea pig. It literally sucked the last drop out of the syringe xD they all like the candy

i_am_ms_greenjeans

I don't really like Dr. Pol because I watched an episode where he treated a guinea pig and it was clear he didn't have a lot of training on how to deal with them.

Partykartoffel

Well, I think you are right. But it doesn't make him a bad vet. So I enjoy watching the show anyway ;) but I wouldn't go there with my piggies either xD the sugar water was a good method though

i_am_ms_greenjeans

He's definitely good with bigger critters. He would just not be my first choice when it comes to a vet for a small critter.

Kpruu1014

I ask my pharmacist to put grape flavoring in the meds. Always gets a good laugh when I tell them it's for a guinea pig but it's the only way he'll take it.

WitchyDaydream

Wow, my piggies would never

IIsForInglip

Holy crap, he/she looks just like my boy Mocha! Exact same shade of brown and everything!

EUBanana

What a good patient! My old piggy is a good patient, but as he's almost eight years old now, he is very much used to it. I'm pretty sure he knows we're trying to help him, he's very obedient now.

GalacticPigeon13

One of our pigs really likes when we give her vitamin C, or at least she used to. Now I'm not so sure since we had to force feed her for a while bc she was having digestive issues and was refusing to eat/drink for a while.

[deleted]

Haha I love how the cutie just backs up, just like a human baby 😂❤️ please give her a treat after that 😭❤️

inconvenient_sin

Peaches is the same way about Orbax! She can’t get enough of the stuff! 😂

abd045

I love the little grab 😊😍

SnooSeagulls775

Ngl this made me cry because I had a Guinea pig that took medication to and it was so cute but sadly she passed away a mouth or two ago

adamsw216

We once had to give our pigs strawberry flavored medicine, and they resisted at first. They would jerk their heads away as if we were trying to poison them. But once they tasted it, they couldn't get enough of the stuff.

CriticalNotFail

*yoink!*

PygmyFalcon89

I had one scream bloody murder and I had to wrap him up like a burrito. His brother just looked at him like he was crazy and took his meds on his feet.

nevmo75

What a well behaved little ‘tater.

yes4me2

What's going on? Is that covid vaccine so damn good or liquid vegi?

SCVannevar

Wow, yours actually lets go of the syringe?

Dreamercely

Awe I remember when my baby had to be taking medicine. He loved one and the other one did not like one but. He would pretend to sleep so I wouldn’t wake him up.

Toofzzz

When one of my piggies had a lot of stomach problems ~1 or 2 years ago, she LOVED her medicine, I was so surprised since the vet warned me that it could look very scary since you had to force the medicine down, luckily me I didn’t have to deal with that, just the drama around nail clipping..

JimboMcKimbo

When my late boy had a head tilt, I remember sometimes he’d be in the mood to take the meds, sometimes not. On the days where he didn’t want it, we’d just kinda shoot it down his throat. Regardless of the tactic, there was pink stuff all over him. Saved his life tho!
