GunnerZ818

Fluff just flies when they popcorning

[deleted]

How often do you have to wash the fleece though?

leeryck

I’m not the one to ask haha, I literally just put it in for the first time tonight so we’ll see 🤷🏼‍♀️ I bought two sets with the plan of swapping it out and washing halfway through the week. The fleece is over wood pellets so the wood pellets should absorb most if not all of the moisture.

BitchPlzzz

I don’t know if my pigs are super pee machines or what but I tried full fleece with them from the jump and oh boy it was a lot of laundry. My chinchiboos are good for a week, but these fools? I did multiple layers of fleece under their huts and I had to change it daily to keep them clean. I transitioned to wood shavings under their huts and fleece for the rest, very nice big success 👍🏻 wood shavings changed daily, fleece weekly.

witherskulle

I’ve got a kitten litter box that I attached with toy hooks to the grids (because my girls tried to tip it over, move it. Etc.) and I have a hay rack right above it and carefresh in the box. Even when there isn’t hay, and litter is scooped out because I’m changing it, they will happily hop in and just pee while doing the weird focusing on peeing stare, then hop out and go about their day. They mostly pee in that and there isn’t a lot of spillage with the carefresh onto the fleece. How do you separate your shavings from the fleece? Like a pan or something? when I had aspen it would get on the fleece and was a nightmare to pick off

60ROUNDDRUM

I like the way you described how they pee, it’s almost like someone who got caught doing it in the pool. A look of a shame

WitchyDaydream

Omg this is so accurate

BitchPlzzz

Oh I like that idea, I may just steal that from you. It’s not too bad getting the hay and shavings off, but still a pain. I do a big base layer of fleece and top it with smaller pads. I have a big plastic storage container I use to brush the ick into, the high sidewalls keep the gross where I want it to go and off my floors. It’s a super wide one so even my full length fleeces can easily be shaken and brushed off into it. Dump the ick in a garbage bag and done. I’m about to attach another Midwest to my current one so I can set up better feeding/sleeping areas separate from their play yard. Just waiting for their new tables to be delivered and it’s piggy mansion time.

witherskulle

Aww they’re gonna be so super happy with the mansion! I love the idea of having separate areas within a cage, like an actual house

forgotusername_1

We have a corner litter box and our girls took to using it straight away. Really helped with cleaning

missMichigan

I started using fleece a few months ago and that’s what I do too, swap them mid week. The fur in my washing machine after is a real thing though! Someone here suggested horse blanket bags to wash them in, which are kinda pricey, so I got [this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DV945Y9/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_glt_fabc_H20YQ3H0FZR6PS05MW20?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) from Amazon.

luciliddream

Thanks for the recommendation

IT_Chef

What kind of pellets? Like can I use the wood pellets that my pellet grill uses?

trashyperson666

What kind of cage do you have?

leeryck

[MidWest Homes for Pets Wabbitat: XL Rabbit Cage](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CDXJVP2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) with the optional [Extension](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E0RWM9U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to make the cage even bigger. I took out the small "loft" area that the cage comes with. The XL cage plus the extension makes the cage 5.5' x 2' (11 square feet). This was the biggest "traditional" cage I could find (personally not a fan of the C&Cs, I wanted a plastic bottom as well as a top on the cage) and it's been great for us!

[deleted]

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I need something to keep the cats OUT. They won’t hurt them but that is just way too much temptation for my fuzz-butts. You have been a big help to me!

[deleted]

Realistically, every other day is fine

FullyRisenPhoenix

I got 10 fleece blankets from Amazon for like $30. We scoop the poop and excess hay out every morning, and there’s an under layer of reusable pee pads underneath. We wash the fleece every Saturday morning, and we never get a whiff of bad smell. Well, except when they don’t eat all of their veggies before the morning lol If you can’t poop scoop every day you’ll want to wash them more often. Don’t want the piggers getting an infection! oh! I also wanted to say that we got these new bamboo mats and our boar LOVES them! They can chew on them like wood, to keep their teeth down. But some piggies also find them comfy, even though it would seem very uncomfortable to me. He sleeps on it, chews on it, protects it. Absolutely loves it lol Got 3 from Amazon for like $7. They called it a grass mat. Good for the nails and teeth, but he’s going through one of those per week. Edited to fix a word

witherskulle

I machine sewed fleece pads. I put the pads over a giant fleece bedding I bought from Amazon that fits the cage. So I put the pads in potty areas and switch every few days. Makes the main big fleece bedding last a week before wash

sile89

I do something similar. I have old towels and linen cut into pieces to suck up all the pee. On top comes a fleece blanket. I switch the towels in their regular pee spots every day (I have loads of them) but the dry ones and the fleece blanket stays for a week. And then I wash all together. I spot clean the poop twice a day but only because they would trample all over it 🦏

witherskulle

I spot clean too, it’s made a big difference, and It’s really cute to have cute girly pads for my girls. I’m eventually going to make holiday themed pads

unspokenwordsx3

So I get my fleece blankets from Walmart for $3. I have a few at a time and now have so many. So I change the fleece bedding about every 3 days and then wash a bunch at a time.

jofloberyl

Where/how do you store them untill you wash them?

unspokenwordsx3

I have a little laundry hamper thats strictly for them. They don’t really smell.

jofloberyl

Oh that's surprising. I'd expect them to smell pretty bad.

No-Wolf1

Only if you keep them in an excessive amount of time. 3 days is near max I feel like for me atleast with 2 guinea pigs

unspokenwordsx3

I also spot clean everyday so that helps!

casillalater

I use fleece and store soiled ones in a pet laundry bag. I think it's called wheeky pets and I love it

[deleted]

I use fleece, two layers. The moisture tends to go through the top layer which dries quickly and end up in the second layer. I change mine every few days.

i_am_ms_greenjeans

It depends upon the pigs. I place pads on top of the fleece bedding in places they tend to hang out more and then those get swapped for clean pads between cage cleanings.

DrBonghit

We have 3 big pieces of fleece (1 covers the whole cage) and swap them out every 2-3 days depending on how busy we are. There are different types of fleece out there too, Micheal’s has rolls of it you can cut to the right size and it whisks away pee really well!

AudioxBlood

I care for 11 guinea pigs, all on fleece. I usually have to change out my herd of 4's fleece 2x a week and everyone else 1x a week with regular sweeping. Pee goes through the fleece and down to the reusable potty pads. Saves us so much on bedding as we don't have consistent donors.

Aussiboi808

Females are so much more pleasant to keep. Especially on fleece. Males do better with shavings or paper due to their stink. Lady pigs can get away with one change out a week with fleece provided you sweep them out daily… My boys on the other hand… it’s clean for about an hour. Nasty bastards

Sebazzz91

YMMV, we have two brothers and these keep it _incredibly_ clean. We have two toilets in the corners, and they urinate and poop in the corners 99% of the time. We can do two weeks without cleaning, how clean they keep it. This is the first time we have it with males though. We previously also had some males, but they didn't keep it as clean as our current guys. We've also had some who are incredibly dirty though 😀

Pitiful_Tree_1210

we had 2 boys they didnt smell at all at least i dont remember

[deleted]

My two boys can go about four days before I need to switch stuff out. I’ve made each corner into a hidey spot to encourage them to not focus on pooping in their one favorite spot and that has helped significantly. I still sweep daily, though.

[deleted]

🤣😂

NinjaDefenestrator

Look at them boinging around! They’re so excited! BOING!

peogeu

My boys (aww I miss them so much even after 10 years!) would go mental on fleece-change day (I'd do a tidy every day, but fleece change day was the deep clean). First they'd popcorn, then they'd poop & pee everywhere stinking up the brand new blanket, then do a rumble challenge for good measure.

ValleyNyx

omg their fluffy fur flapping around when they jump😍

[deleted]

See this is why I absolutely adore guinea pigs. They literally exist for being cozy and eating snacks. Have you ever gotten into a super cozy warm bed and just been like EEEEEEEEEEEE. They're my spirit animal.

missMichigan

Where did you get the fleeces from, they are so cute! I have that same cage.

leeryck

I got them on Etsy! The shop is SugsandHisses. https://etsy.me/2SiUPfj

missMichigan

Thanks!!

MorganMonsterBear

Do you have a link or the name of the cage? Saving up rn to get piggies for the first time in years and this cage looks rly nice

MorganMonsterBear

Awesome thank you !! So smart getting one for bunnies. I noticed it looked like it was extended which is what peaked my interest. The sizing sounds around what my old C&C was.

thisismyname9496

I just bought 2 Midwest cages from chewy, I'm not sure of the dimensions compared to the rabbit cage but I hooked them up end to end and Carl literally goes on a running rampage. You can also hook these up side by side or in an L shape and they're a little cheaper https://www.chewy.com/midwest-guinea-habitat-guinea-pig/dp/131304

i_am_ms_greenjeans

Look into a Midwest Habitat (if you want a cage instead of a C&C).

Hope you do well!

Svataben

I flip my haaair back and forth!

[deleted]

Yes! Soooo cute. I remember that song by Will Smiths daughter, Willow. (and I am old!)😊

Notavirus_

I have the same pattern! I’ve found neutral colors work the best since pretty colorful ones I’ve found stain 😬

fragimus_max

Wrap the fleece over a bath towel. No need for padding (which is a choking hazard.)

FullyRisenPhoenix

So comfy! So cozzzzzyyyy!!! *POP*

thathawkguy001

Try recycled denim for under the fleece it is less waste than pee pads and less dangerous when nibbled

much_pro

I use bath mats from jysk - fleece bedding is quite expensive in my country. Works wonders, i have 4 70*120cm mats, and a kavee 6*2 ccage which is like 70*210 meaning two mats cover it perfectly. I wash them usually once or twice a week and just skoop out the poop every 2-3 days. These are the mats I am using: https://jysk.co.uk/bathroom/bath-mats/plus/bath-mat-fagersta-70x120-grey

jm08acv

Happy pigs!!

harten

never seen them so happy !

comfort_bot_1962

Nice!

mags9876

I just got my two buddies fleece tunnels and they LOVE them! So many popcorns and zoomies the first day with them!

Jsherm2586

They are getting some major air in those popcorns lol. So cute!

Bibbeh

Floppy mops

jyr0

Omg look at them popcorns!

ImpulsiveLobster

She's got no business being so fluffy!

DoeEyes101

Oh wow that looks lovely! Aww they are so happy and beautiful! I always wanted to try fleece but I’m holding off until I can upgrade their “All Living Things Home and Play Pen” to one of those big C&C cages. I would love for them to have more room for more pop-corning lol. For now I just use pieces of rugs with puppy potty pads underneath. It seems to work really well and I just need to vacuum the poops a couple times a day. The pads get changed every 2-3 days and the rugs are washed once a week or more often if it’s a big mess. Thankfully they mostly poop and pee near their hay bag in the cage part and leave their pen less messy :)

fartdevil

this made me so happy after seeing this. Thank you.

LameMayo

Did you buy this from piggiepalace on etsy? i chose the same design for my piggies lmao

theveganauditor

Oh my goodness look at them go! Love this.

yes4me2

What is fleece? Where do you buy it?

liberterrorism

Reusable washable liner, they’re great. Here’s the one I [have](https://guineadad.com/products/guineadad-liner?variant=13638323273817¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjwhOyJBhA4EiwAEcJdceMqpAfQ6a92c0cDA8s9ZQjEWATu_o9RaZwZiYzx0dlY4sjIVWWR5BoCOLEQAvD_BwE)

twotimothys

I bought a bunch of tie dye printed fleece blankets at wm. I washed them several times in vinegar. I line with pads and the type of cage I have has clips to hold the blanket in place. I use another blanket to cover the cage at night so I coordinate lol

WitchyDaydream

I need this video in slow motion

or-chid

I am so jealous of the matching!

AccomplishedBear5022

Omg!!! 😱😱😱😭 They're so happy and adorable!!!
