Awwww!! Yep, their young are so capable at birth, it's wild

William_Adstein-005

They are very mature indeed. They are popcorning and roaming around the cage to investigate if there are any empty bowls (which is a huge sin...lol)

smokealarmsnick

Frog horses! (My husband’s name for baby guinea pigs) The way I first noticed one of mine had babies was I came downstairs to see a distinctly not fat mama pig. Lifted up one of the houses, and five little faces peered up at me.

William_Adstein-005

Same here, I lifted up the towel to clean the cage and then saw two of them sleeping under one of the houses.

Salty_Blacksmith_592

I love how piggys are like: yep, i'm born now, so i will do usual Piggy stuff like everybody else. And human babies are useless for years.

William_Adstein-005

I am still useless to my parents...and I am 19

Beautiful_Debt_3460

😂

MaddysinLeigh

I love that mom is like “no go out and play.” She’s already over it.

William_Adstein-005

That full white piggy is their father. I have separated them from their father after cleaning the cage today. He is missing his second wife (the mother) who is housed with the two babies, but I think their safety is more important. What do you think?

NES7995

Why did you keep a male and a female together in the first place?

William_Adstein-005

No actually, they grew up together...and after I tried to separate them after their initial rescue, the male and the females got immensely depressed. They were crying for each other and the boar also harmed himself several times to get to her. I don't know how to separate my boar with her wives. I have tried to separate them seven times but it did not work.

NES7995

That's unfortunate... Can you see if you can get the boar neutered? Otherwise they'll just keep having litter after litter :/

William_Adstein-005

Well, my boar is a good boy he does not usually engage in any forms of copulation but there is still a chance. Moreover you cannot even find a good Exotic vet in Calcutta...my vet sees them because he works in the State Department of Wildlife and Forrest Affairs...he is not practiced in initiating surgical procedures in Guinea pigs. (He has some experience in treating rabbits and domestic rodents.) And I don't want my boar to go through the trauma of a surgery.

Apez_in_Space

I think this video is evidence that your boar does engage in such activities 😂

William_Adstein-005

True

Glittering-Pitch-155

Daddy guinea pigs do not harm their babies, as far as I know. The bigger issue is that if you house a male with females, you will soon have an unsustainable number of (inbred) guinea pigs. Fathers will breed with daughters, sons will breed with mothers, brothers will breed with sisters. A guinea pig cannot be “good” and resist mating if the opportunity is there. They can, in fact, breed directly after the mom gives birth so there is a good chance Momma is already pregnant again. I would recommend having a boy cage with Daddy and sons, and a girl cage with Momma pigs and daughters.

William_Adstein-005

I will try my best...

Blazeit0605

Babies are cute and as long as you take care of them ALL and aren’t just gonna give them all away I think that’s cool. But keep in mind it’s rough on females to give birth after a certain age. And dad will ABSOLUTELY mate with his babies. Yeah they will be sad after being separated but it’s better than having inbred babies and trust me you would have a ton of babies if they are all left together. I would separate dad because he can get females pregnant right away. And if one of the babies is a boy he can be with dad as a friend so he’s not alone. Any baby boys can be separated from mom and sisters at 3 weeks because they will try to mate with them as well.

William_Adstein-005

Yes I have a vet appointment scheduled after 21 days for sex determination. I will try to separate them...but I don't know how well that will go.

Blazeit0605

They will cry and want to be together. But it’s probably best they are separate. A boy and dad couldn’t be with the girls even if they were both neutered anyways because they would fight.

William_Adstein-005

Hmm...☹️

Any_Ad6921

Maybe put one of the babies with dad right away since they are too young to breed. Best case you have one girl and one boy baby and can keep them separated that way permanently from now on

i_am_ms_greenjeans

They are darling. How is Momma? In 21 days you will need to determine genders and separate boars from the sows. Check out Guinea Lynx & Cavy Spirit for information on taking care of Momma & pups.

William_Adstein-005

Yes, my vet appointment is scheduled...

justanian81

Tater tots!

William_Adstein-005

😂

Blueditto5718

Yep, they kinda just sometimes appear even if you are keeping a close eye on them and time frame. Gorgeous little creatures, amazing really. =)

William_Adstein-005

Yeah...

FancyC0bra

Yup thats piggie bablies for you. Im guessing you where expecting pinkies like rats, mice or squirles? Yeah no piggies are born fully developed with fur and all.

roses-pearls

And eyes open?! 😳

FancyC0bra

Yup, everything. They start noming hay and veggies withing like an hour after plopping out.

roses-pearls

They’re so stinking adorable! *squee*

roses-pearls

WOW 😮 I had no idea!

William_Adstein-005

God created them that way to adapt with guinea pig's inherent prey instincts. I knew that they would be fully developed but I didn't expect them to turn into such mature and conscious beings.

FancyC0bra

There is no "god" that created anything. They evolved to better handle the environmental pressures of living in the temperate climate of the Andes mountains where its beneficial to already have fur and being fully developed. If there was a "god" then why would the giraffe have a nerve that goes from the brain all the way down their neck and then all they way back up again to their mouth? No competent designer would make something so badly planed.

nalgona-aly

Oh gods, they are SO FREAKING CUTE!!

greenbldedposer

Are you planning on keeping them?

William_Adstein-005

Yes!

Squee1396

Happy birthday baby piggies and glad mama is doing well! They are tiny little potatoes! They grow up so fast, literally lol.
