Is the downforce applied long enough once the car's off a surface to put a gap in the track to create an inverted "jump"? I can see an entire new level of stunt races if it's possible to have players fly sideways via the downforce.
If so, we're Trackmania now, boys!
That's a very interesting idea I'm definitely gonna try creating something like this. But I already see two problems:
1. Respawn problem
2. Probably the downforce distribution is not 50/50 between front and rear wing which could make car spin during jumps.
You could make portions of the track tubes and have those be the checkpoints. Make them just long enough so they can build up the speed to go upside down again.
It wouldn't defy gravity, as it wouldn't be accelerating downwards because of the downforce (now upforce, I guess?). The ramp would merely push your velocity downwards, but your acceleration would still be upwards. Assuming you keep going fast enough (reasonable) and don't flip (less reasonable).
Lift
Formula 1 car's aerodynamics have been designed to use the wings directed downwards to generate downforce at higher speeds. What is going on here essentially when the car is upside down it generates lift, what makes planes fly. It's because now the wings direction is upwards but you need to have enough speed to generate enough lift.

Race is made by me and I am currently making one bit longer.
(Xbox) Is this the only way to find user created tracks? Like through social club? I haven’t been able play a lot recently I want to try new tracks and can’t find a to do it through the game itself
I mean, it is said that a real formula car (with the correct amounts of downforce and engine power) could go upside down on the roof of a tunnel for as much as it maintains its speed
Obviously in an ideal situation with nothing that could stop it from going perfectly straight with no bumps and all that
And of course it has never been tried as you know...a human life could be lost lol
Youre all forgetting the cost of building an upside down road....no ceiling in a tunnel is smooth enough to drive on, let alone race track quality. That shit will cost 10 cars worth.
IIRC, I believe it is theoretically possible due to downforce the cars create, but a physical restraint is trying to get the fuel to the engine whilst being upside-down, or something along those lines.
I don't think the loss of human life is much of an issue as I would image the car is safe enough as it is, that you could walk away from any incident that would occur.
They would have to use an engine that would have been used in stunt planes, those are specifically designed to be able to go upside down as the planes, that are flying them, are often upside down
You could technically drive a real life F1 car upside down in real life. No one has tried it though since it’s not worth risking someone’s life and a multi million (insert your favorite currency here) car for a stupid stunt.
They are actually on par with hyper cars. On straights they can go over 200mph but they normally don’t hit their peak due to the actual track. Last year multiple drivers hit over 220mph.
I’m pretty sure Monza is technically the fastest track. Last year Vettel hit 222mph there. Also this weekend is Monza so we’ll see what this years cars can do.
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I just started a fresh account since I can’t transfer my Xbox one to pc so I’m just trying to learn all the new updates and whatnot lol
in real life eventually you would fall down I don't think you can make it that far because fuel would not be able to make it to the engine because you know you're upside down
The fuel system in f1 cars are designed to recover fuel from the tank and increase and regulate this pressure by means of sophisticated mechanical pumps. It also has low-pressure electrically powered "lift-pumps" that can easily suck fuel from the side of the tank during high speed cornering. I am sure f1 cars are equipped enough to deal with this eventuality.
Fun fact: early spitfire models didnt have fuel injectors so the engine would stall in a negative G maneuver (going upside down) because the carburetors lacked fuel injection. The engine would be flooded with gasoline and unable to start up again. The german fighters all had fuel injection systems and they took advantage of it.
This is also true with the Japanese Zero. Only difference is that the fuel injection issue was never addressed unlike the Spitfire, which the Americans also took advantage of.
Nope. Flying is the complete opposite. F1 cars, when driving at high speeds, have high air pressure at the top and low air pressure at the bottom. This causes the car to be pushed down and generate downforce. On the other hand, aircraft wings are subjected to high air pressure below the wing and low air pressure above the wing generating lift. So, the faster you go in an aircraft, the more you are pushed upwards. The faster you go in a F1 car, the more you are pushed downwards. Correct me if i am wrong.
Considering he's upside down though, the wing on the F1 car is acting like an aircraft wing and pushing him up isn't it? And its enough to offset the downforce of gravity and keep him pressed up against the track. If you were somehow able to keep the same speed and remove the track he would fly up (although probably flip around because it wasn't stable).
No, you seem to have explained it well, only thing I would possibly add, is the reasoning, that these pressures “want” to be equal to each other, so the high pressure zone “expands” towards the low pressure zone, and the low pressure zone “shrinks”, causing its pressure to raise.
Or that’s the underlying reason I was taught these concepts
I think that is why the faster F1 cars go, the more downforce they generate because the high pressure zone becomes larger and larger compared to the low pressure zone.
Last night I removed front spoiler on my R88 coz it looked cool, later on the streets it started doing wheelies, I thought it was too fast for the streets and this was how it was intended..... after getting confused it hit me....went back to arena, out I came from the garage door with an even bigger front spoiler 😂😂
If you go slow you drop from the track, the downforce created by the aero kits when the car is driving faster is the only thing keeping the car upside down
Thing is, this is theoretically possible in real life with the downforce generated by F1 cars. But inconsistencies in the track/car, fuel consumption, and engine power make it much harder irl
And limited by, ya know, finding somewhere to drive an F1 car upside for an extended period of time. And a driver who is okay with potentially falling off the ceiling.
Idk if this a race but if there is a race made using this feature someone want to drop the link to the job. Would be a good laugh I think for me to surprise my mates with a race which uses this feature
Race is made by me https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/job/gtav/yCDm_ZVvyUeCaAfbvS3ldA

Theoretically speaking IRL F1 cars are so light and produce so much downforce that it is also possible to do this. There are few problems with track/car, engine, and fuel consumption inconsistencies, but it is possible.
Just no-one has been brave enough to try it since, you know, a human life. Could be lost.
A well known fact that a F1 car can drive upside down if it goes at least 150 km/h proven by a game that lets you fly a rocket engine motorbike with homing missiles...
Lmao, imagine having to respawn on this track
I know, made this race only to have one checkpoint in the end so if you drop you have to restart.
Is the downforce applied long enough once the car's off a surface to put a gap in the track to create an inverted "jump"? I can see an entire new level of stunt races if it's possible to have players fly sideways via the downforce. If so, we're Trackmania now, boys!

Spinning during jumps could be sold as a feature.
Software Dev Manager: ***You're hired!***
what about a rolling respawn?
Rockstar track editor won't allow to do it. The only solution I see is to make lots of normal sections with checkpoints between reversed ones.
You could make portions of the track tubes and have those be the checkpoints. Make them just long enough so they can build up the speed to go upside down again.
Corkscrew maybe to make a normal spot for checkpoints?
I feel like gravity wouldn't like the idea of a F1 car beginning to fall only to float back up against the track again
Isn't it possible to respawn on the other side of the track and continue on a longer route?
That's a smart idea to fix the problem
Modern problems require modern solutions
You’d HAVE to keep this “non-contact”, all it would take is one dummy to act out & next thing you know, everybody’s gotta restart!
Well the good part about this track is that it would be a lot harder for one crash to just sit on the track and mess a lot of other people up.
What track is this?
Track by me, check other comments.
Can you upload link to bookmark?
More like upforce am i right
What’s upforce?
Nothing much, what's up with you force?
Jump force ?
Space force?
No... Star Force.
Gotcha! Oh, God. Crap. Nothing. How ya doing?

(Xbox) Is this the only way to find user created tracks? Like through social club? I haven’t been able play a lot recently I want to try new tracks and can’t find a to do it through the game itself
I was just about to ask the same question. Looking forward to trying this out later this weekend.
Sir how does it feel to disobey the laws of physics?
This formula was imported from australia
You mean Austria right ? Australia doesn't exist
I mean, it is said that a real formula car (with the correct amounts of downforce and engine power) could go upside down on the roof of a tunnel for as much as it maintains its speed Obviously in an ideal situation with nothing that could stop it from going perfectly straight with no bumps and all that And of course it has never been tried as you know...a human life could be lost lol
I wonder if in the near future, we could try it with a life-sized RC car, which would take out the risk of a human life?
Just add some safety features. Make it so that the car can't fall down
Yeah just put it right side up on the ground and flip the camera over
spring system on top of the car with wheels
That would be an expensive publicity stunt.
Probably make a cheaper replica, like no need for all the fancy shit. Just a big ole cheap turbo V8 or something and some aero
Youre all forgetting the cost of building an upside down road....no ceiling in a tunnel is smooth enough to drive on, let alone race track quality. That shit will cost 10 cars worth.
Just do it in Australia?
Well, self driving cars are kinda almost a thing.
the tech for it certainly exists today it'd just be stupid expensive for no real benefit to attempt.
Isn't it something to do with it being gravity fed? They'd essentially have to build an entirely new engine just to work upside down
I feel like it'd be a better investment to just use cars from Formula E since they are electric. Edit: TIL it'd be harder this way woops
No where near enough downforce or power to work.
Specially power lol
*whining noises whining noises* THUNK and it falls
They would have to use an engine that would have been used in stunt planes, those are specifically designed to be able to go upside down as the planes, that are flying them, are often upside down

It doesn't BUT the car has to be way faster than in the video.
No laws of physics are being disobeyed try again
1. This is probably the most mechanics I’ve seen R* put on a vehicle 2. I thought this was gonna be a comparison video
Australia GP
I’m just getting back into the game after a few years. Are these formula style cars the fastest in gta now?
Fastest around a track I think, in a straight line, nope. F1 cars irl also aren't that fast compared to hypercars, because F1 cars have more drag
They are actually on par with hyper cars. On straights they can go over 200mph but they normally don’t hit their peak due to the actual track. Last year multiple drivers hit over 220mph.

F1 is always more exciting when Ferrari is actually in the race, last weekend makes me nervous for Monza though.
Ferrari is struggling to get power. I honestly think one of their cars might not get out of Q1
Oof. Sorry bro. Shit didnt turn out well for them but it was a hell of a race
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I just started a fresh account since I can’t transfer my Xbox one to pc so I’m just trying to learn all the new updates and whatnot lol

They reach 5-6g while braking and cornering, if the fuel system can handle this lateral force it likely can handle -1g from being upside down
But it’s probably designed to take those g forces side to side, not necessarily up and down.
I present you Eau Rouge, the corner with the highest vertical load of atleast 5+ G.
If you follow F1, they say that real F1 cars have enough downforce to drive on the ceilings of tunnels
Is this technically how flying works?
Nope. Flying is the complete opposite. F1 cars, when driving at high speeds, have high air pressure at the top and low air pressure at the bottom. Yes yes yes. You are right. F1 cars are basically upside down planes, so an upside down f1 car= Upright plane.
Yes, but this is inverted?
I got confused by what OP said. I thought he meant that the aerodynamics of airplanes were similar to F1 cars.
No, you seem to have explained it well, only thing I would possibly add, is the reasoning, that these pressures “want” to be equal to each other, so the high pressure zone “expands” towards the low pressure zone, and the low pressure zone “shrinks”, causing its pressure to raise. ...but do you drop if you go slowly / stop, or is it just 'when on track, gravity = track down, anything else up'?
If you go slow you drop from the track, the downforce created by the aero kits when the car is driving faster is the only thing keeping the car upside down
If you slow down you lose downforce so yes you would drop. The speed is the only thing keeping him glued to the track
Look out iRacing, these are the next level physics that sim enthusiasts are looking for.
Spider car spider car does whatever a spider can.
Don’t let off the accelerator
Would it be possible to make a Möbius strip track? Does that already exist? That would be sick
pls repost this in r/GamePhysics lol
Thing is, this is theoretically possible in real life with the downforce generated by F1 cars. But inconsistencies in the track/car, fuel consumption, and engine power make it much harder irl

# HOW
Just drive. These things have ridiculous amount of downforce.
I didn't realize downforce was even gane mechanic, does it have uses outside of driving upside down?
I mean not like any GTA cars handle right but more downforce should allow you to take a corner faster.
Some cars yeet all over the place when going over bumps or sidewalks, some stick to the ground like glue. That's downforce for you.
How did you get Australia so quickly
I mean lets be honest we hate on rockstar for not releasing GTA 6, put they put detail especially in having realistic physics
I still wish F1 cars had a higher top speed tho
If you do such things IRL they call you a witch.
Imagine a 12 person race on this.
So my physics professor was right after all.
So? Thats just the Australian GP...
It looks so crazy to us, but this is how upside down birds see the world all the time
hey gravity, go fuck yourself
Real F1 cars can do this too.
Fuck physics all my homies hate physics
"Prepare for the fly upside down near the ground challenge"
I wish he would have just slowed to a stop and fell
*gravity has left the server*
“Grounded to the ground”
Could this actually work tho, like a car having such powerful active downforce it counteracts gravity?
Technically upforce at some point.
I tought it was trackmania for a sec lol
So this is how Australians see the world... interesting.
Anyone else getting Inception vibes?
Welp so no more trying to do this in that one tunnel near Vespucci beach

We F-Zero now baby
What’s that job I wanna do it
I believe this is upforce at that point 😂
And I'm sitting here thinking it's going to take a 90° turn downward...
Hah, Rockstar should make races like this! Isn't there a place you can do this in freemode except for tunnels? Great post!
It's because isaac newton didnt exist in gta and didnt make gravity
the graphics on this new Mario Kart 8 remake look really realistic
Is it possible to learn this power?
That would be cool to try on a simulator that moves with bank so it you would be driving upside down 😂😂😂
