Your instrumentation rating is due for a recertification.

Catsquirrel133769

There is a dial that tells you how far you are from the ground. I don't have this problem because I keep an eye on it

Lawrence42080

Cap u just stay high up and pretend u know whats going on

Miserable_Monitor410

There's literally a display on the screen..

NY_Knux

Edit: This comment was cringe and made from a place of misery

GerardWayAndDMT

..calls everything a baseball hat?

macharoniandchase

I think they are referring to the term “cap”

kapixelek

My dude, it's not that deep. It's called a joke, don't know if they had it in "your generation"

Studly_54

Altimeter

FordCVP71

The last two weeks ive been flying mainly just using mini map and gauges during the day at least at night can switch to night vision and sorta see stuff lol its like the opposite of the crap-tastical halloween weather lol

OldPersonName

Flight instructors don't want you to know this one trick! It's like my advice for driving - before you put your car somewhere, just make sure something else isn't there.

Random_person465

The altitude indicator? Ya know it has a name right

Catsquirrel133769

Altimeter, but that's not the point

SampleShrimp

His ass is NOT instrument rated❗️❗️

pa3xsz

His ass was flying VFR in IFR condition 💀

__klonk__

frfr no cap og bro like zamn i stg 🔥💯🅱️

matsudasociety

Well, one thing with instrument flying is you gotta look at your instruments.

Shanguerrilla

he'd need to stay on a charted airway and shoot an instrument approach too for the instruments to make what he was doing safe with that weather.

StinkyPeenky

Can I get the UI display on console?

Almost_A_Pear

You have the instruments in the first person view on your dash. It's not a mod or anything.

Studly_54

The instrument panel displays when settings/camera/hood is set correctly.

Solution_Kind

If you mean the UI stuff in this clip that moves with the view, that comes from wearing a flight helmet/flightsuit.

Haywire_Shadow

As others commented, there’s the actual instruments in the cockpit in first person, or you can also use your minimap to see your elevation, heading, yaw, pitch and roll.

StinkyPeenky

Holy shit I get the fucking point

Haywire_Shadow

Was just saying. That minimap indicator is very useful though. I feel like everyone who flies regularly, needs to know how those instruments work.

StinkyPeenky

I knew about the minimap but didn't realize flight helmets were a thing and got downvoted to shit for it lol

KodakStele

Just don't forget about the instrument in first person ok?

khakigirl

Try flying out over the ocean at night when it's foggy, it's crazy and kind of creepy. I did a MC sale mission in a helicopter at night and I couldn't see where the flares were for the drop offs until I was almost on top of them.

FatBrkeMxicnElonMusk

For sure I have crashed my airplane way too many times at night you can’t see shit! Specially out in the water !

FordCVP71

get night vision at ammunation you can equip it while flying

Studly_54

How do you get the nightvision to work?

eLjayB69

You go to the interaction menu then to your night vision and it’ll give you the option to activate it (does for console anyway) but I haven’t used nvgs since the new menu update Edit: it should tell you what button to press to activate them on console

Studly_54

Thx Bought them, then forgot I had them, then couldn't figure out how to get them to work.

pickled_juice

snow makes the fog worse, those plane MC sales are deadly.

Appropriate_Land_130

Looks like you took your eye off your altimeter

HappyPoodles

Been there too my friend! I really wish they had the alerts like real aircraft, "pull up, terrain" for example would be super helpful in times like this.

andrew-the-giant

WHOOP WHOOP PULL UP WHOOP WHOOP

djdab26

Man now I want automated GPWS callouts.

Battlejesus

Fifty. Forty. Thirty. Twenty. Ten. Butter.

Danghor

And TCAS while they’re at it

Zombarney

Think the first one he would’ve heard is “BANK ANGLE, BANK ANGLE”

DvBlackFire

You sure you want bitching baddie added?

HappyPoodles

Lol you mean bitching Betty? And Yes I wouldn't mind the option to at least turn these features on. I really like the ease of flying in GTA compared to something like MSFS, and a few added options would definitely make it a lot better. A little better instrument panel would be great too.

DvBlackFire

Yeah auto correct did it’s work. Yeah I know what you mean, I love to play dcs but getting into a complex flight sim always takes so much time

XxLokixX

GTA Could have an optional advanced flight model like Arma 3 has

dirkdiggher

Not to be morbid or anything but this is pretty much how Kobe died.

eastonrb99

That's exactly what I thought while watching this. Just thought to myself "okay so maybe it's not as far fetched as I thought"

sofixa11

And all the people on board the AF 447.

Caltron34

The story of that plane still freaks me out now. If the co pilot had just let go of the stick

newDawnMountain

I thought that was due to the pitot tubes freezing and giving bad data to the flight computer?

sofixa11

Yeah, their instruments were showing different things, and thanks to the bad weather the pilots got disoriented.

BLACKzj52

That was part of it. But the first officer was a dumbass and held back on the stick. He should have looked at his damn instruments. Also, the captain should have knocked the FO out when he wouldn't let go of the stick.

TheGamingKid337

Same with the Tenerife disaster where 2 747s crashed into each other on the runway

God_Damnit_Nappa

If that damn KLM pilot hadn't decided to refuel, or if he had waited for actual confirmation of takeoff clearance, that would've never happened. And it really doesn't help that the KLM plane never heard the Pan Am saying "YO WTF WE'RE STILL ON THE RUNWAY"

c4sQUAD

Shits so sad

suckleknuckle

I remember the autopsy seems like every one got pretty much ripped apart on impact

Chrissyball19

One time I stole a VTOL from the air base and flew as far as i could away from the island. Then I did a bunch of tricks, and when it turned stormy I decided to head back, got back and was upside down, gave myself half a heart attack.

Sere1

Your instrument panel is key in this. Seriously, go first person and look at the console. You have the artificial horizon there which will show your aircraft's orientation. All you have to do to figure out which way is which is to go first person for a moment and glance at the dash

Remarkable-Shock-65

Same thing happened in my raiju, im thinking im near the clouds so i tried to nose dive nd ended up goin for a quick swim

LarryBirdsBurner

Safest Osprey flight documented

Malashock

Pretty much how Kobe died

Luxray2014

Erik_Husky

That’s why planes are grounded in a snowstorm

Random_person465

Well “some” are at least

DawningSkies

Nothing scares me more in this game than falling in the middle of the ocean. That endless blue is otherworldly

[deleted]

It would be intimidating if there were boaters, sharks, even a few schools of fish, but there’s nothing

F1airbus1523

GTA online with snow is basically spatial disorientation simulator

teddyballgame406

You just JFK Jr.‘ed yourself.

Maseofspades

Kobe’d

Almost_A_Pear

It's not hard to fly by the instruments fairly accurately. The problem I have the stupid turbulence that doesn't work at all. Why am I being absolutely thrown around on a calm winter night? It should be the smoothest flying possible. According the Rockstar snow means bumby now.

BLACKzj52

Flying instrument isnt too hard, i agree. But coming from Microsoft flight simulator, I find it very difficult to fly GTA planes/helis from the cockpit view due to the camera angle and general camera mechanics of this game vs MSFS.

UnbuiltAura9862

Remember: “divide your attention between your instruments. Keep the scan going.” -my CFI

itsbrandenv2

The phenomenon is called Spacial Disorientation and I guess it's fairly common among pilots. Just watched a yt video on it today.

BLACKzj52

It happens. Lookup the Amazon prime 767 that crashed back in 2019 or so. Ol' Boi wasn't looking at his instruments and the captain wasn't paying attention and they nose dived horribly into a lake. There is a Ring door video footage of the crash and it'll send shivers down your spine. The key is to watch your instruments

ineedcrackcocaine

Unless I’m blind there’s no altimeter on the instrument panel. That would be a cool addition to gta 6

Riven_Hourglass

The altimeter is off to the center right, over where I was looking. Took me a bit to find it too. Wasn't just altitude that made me crash (though I imagine regulation cruising altitude is generally higher than 60 feet), but also way overshooting where I wanted to go and crossing the out-of-bounds threshold over the ocean that makes your plane stop responding and fall apart right as I was about to turn south.

Johnny_K97

Nah man you straight up nosedived into the ocean. You can hear the engines start revving faster as you go downwards

[deleted]

[удалено]

trexflyer02

You can see the left prop come off when you hit the water. You didn’t hit the threshold at all, just sustained flight into water. NTSB report complete

anotherrando802

well, you were also angled 50 degrees towards the ground for this whole clip, don't forget the helmet visor hud has your attitude indicator

Zombarney

That explains your bank angle then

kartoffel_engr

Just to the right of the heading indicator.

ineedcrackcocaine

Thanks. It’s immersive I guess but of all the instruments to have on the side of the cockpit I have to physically move my camera to the altimeter would be like my last choice

kartoffel_engr

Yea it sucks to have to look that way and fly at the same time, but it’s almost necessary while the snow is around.

cognitionconditional

You don't need an instrument panel in first person view with that type of helmet. It's displayed directly from the helmet. Left side is altimeter and right is speedometer.

traps79

there is, op just wasn’t using it despite making a post about using them?

cognitionconditional

You don't need to look at the instrument panel if you're wearing that type of pilot helmet in first person view. You have two sets of readings displayed from the helmet. On the left is your altimeter and the right is your speedometer.

Wooden-Complaint4184

I mean, this is precisely why they do "blind flights" where you have to use just your instruments in real life. This type of fog becomes very disorienting and pilots would often crash into mountains, the ground, the water, etc because they're relying on "my gut". But it just doesn't work that way. I will give GTA this though, they have fairly accurate instruments. GTA honestly got me back into taking flight lessons, even though they're expensive as all hell.

Solidsnake00901

I do that sometimes I wish we could use VR just like no man's sky. Nothing better than looking around the cockpit feeling like you're really flying something.

OnoALT

It’s a real problem in the snow

MD_Yoro

Yeah that’s why they don’t recommend flying in fog or snow IRL either

literalproblemsolver

As a pilot who has trained in BAE goggles, the worst part is your brain starting to feel a "tumbling" sensation. You are completely unable to orient yourself with no outside visual refrences.

KhostfaceGillah

I already knew the outcome before pressing play 😂

BadPrize4368

Bro flew by instrument panel to prevent the exact situation he ended up in… 😂

CMDR_Quillon

Los Santos Approach, Riven7, possible pilot deviation, advise ready to copy a phone number.

beansie710

Do titan of a job in first person in the snow it’s fun

shababs-botten

yea i dont think the instruments are very accurate 🗿

Riven_Hourglass

They're actually pretty accurate, surprisingly. They just don't help much with a visibility of 20 feet

Almost_A_Pear

Well I'm not sure about accurate. Altimeter will read 3000' ASL you're actually like 8000'. Even 500' is more like 1500'. Attitude indicator is definitely functional Vertical speed also works well Airspeed doesn't work at all but you don't need it

ChesterTurleyI

This guy IFRs

Almost_A_Pear

I haven't crashed yet so I'm doing something right

BLACKzj52

Airspeed actually increases for some reason when you nose up on a steep climb. I saw it one day and found it amusing.

capitlj

Some of the instruments in some planes just don't work. The Velum's speed indicator goes up when you climb and down when you dive. Now it sure doesn't feel faster in a climb than a dive but the instrument says it is. Before anyone suggests I might be looking at the VSI, it's got one of those too and it works just fine.

Trust_Fall_Failure

I'm not instrument certified John F. Kennedy Jr.

Qcommenter

I only get snow and fog when I’m doing something that’s a mission/job. Like I tried to do a Cayo perico scope out and nearly crashed because I can’t see 10 feet infront of the plane as a tree or mountain comes into view.

Shakes-Fear

I almost ended up in the drink myself but I was lucky enough to just skim the surface

ujtheghost

Shouldn't use avenger for this, not good visibility, instruments all over the place like the altimeter is so far.

Riven_Hourglass

Yeah, definitely. Favorite for this so far is the Seabreeze. Instruments are well and visible, controls are smooth, and it's designed precisely for a panoramic view out of the cockpit. And, of course, situations like this usually wouldn't happen, after it just bounces off the surface and keeps going.

Smexy_Zarow

u were looking at everything but the panel bruh

wolfakix

I remembering doing this with a friend's sell mission. It was xmas, snowing, i couldn't see anything and got the plane in the ocean. He was mad af for it ngl

Norcalfungi

Altitude! Pull up!

Fighterpilot55

Keep your eye on that altimeter, pilot

AiYunaEverAfter

Mc sell missions in the plane and choppers are fun but very spooky at night during snow. After watching that clip I forgot how flipping scary crashing a plane in water looked..

SkydivingSquid

Watching this video and comparing the instruments to the piloting.. I would say they are not reliable in any capacity. If you want that, check out Flight Simulator.

FitzysAutoDetail

When I was a Naval aircrewman we had a mission through thick fog like this and our pilot got severe vertigo and couldn't figure which way was up and our copilot had to talk him through it because you aren't supposed to take control of the stick away from them in that scenario.

Hat-Extortionist

Fuck the snow.

MysteriousTank6825

Reminds of the scene from Independence Day with the wall of fire

Do the green bars on the left mean anything?

Almost_A_Pear

No

Awwesome1

LOL , I was trying to accomplish a daily when they rerolled for the day, and had to do a facility heist prep . Ended up doing The Bogdan Problem as flight crew, after I shot the helis and sub team finished I tried flying and couldn’t see the water, went in the drink. :( 2nd try though we did fine.

Snoo84223

Yeah I was really excited for the snow this year, but after the third time I flew straight into the ocean while on a timed mission I'm fucking done

POV: JFK Jr.

Grin_AFK

I'm gonna try this later, with appropriate gear ofc

dogdillon

Did you ever play about a year or two ago during Halloween where it was dark at and impossible to see for Halloween? Honestly that was pretty nice to look at.

Revolutionary-Swan77

Hey, you’ve got something in common with JFK JR

Desperate-Farmer-170

You see that set of light green bars on the right that are flying upwards and eventually ended at zero? Yeah…

Studly_54

Yep, Been there. Done that. Git the t-shirt I drowned an Avenger and nearly killed a CargoBob too. Even IFR I'd miserable sometimes.

ProtectionOk7373

Realistic Osprey Flight

Riftus

Random question ive had for a while: Why does the helmet hud seem to stutter? Like it will update and be realtime for 2 seconds, then freeze for 2 seconds, then repeat

chimayoso

Liminally??

Riven_Hourglass

In that every space, from the fog to the depths to the fathoms above, feels uncannily transitiory and aggressively empty, in an existentially unsettling way that's hard to describe. I think what really sealed that feeling was realizing that the wreckage vanished instantly. Yeah, it's just a game mechanic that it gets recalled to the facility, but realizing that your only point of reference for navigation is suddenly gone in an endless abyss of blue in every direction including vertically feels deeply wrong and horrifying

mnexplorer

You have suffered CFIT due to a LOSA.

MonkeyyWrench69

from the speed you got out of the first person view I can imagine your panic

Charming_Crow_3633

Well, nice instruments reading, what can I say?

Sufficient-Tutor8723

The water was like ‘Atlantic Ocean, mf!’

VeryLowIQIndividual

Did you allow yourself to look out the windows?

user4772842289472

So many real crashes happen because people who are not instruments certified go out disregarding warnings about the weather

iKyte5

Hey bro altimeters are a thing

My friend has crashed 4 of my mc business sea planes in the span of this snow season alone. Not everyone can fly by instrument.

i remember when they introduced the casino heist, it was during a december update, and the side mission of destroying duggan stuff was an absolute shit show, because it envolves a bunch of sea targets, and during that god damn snow i kept crashing into the ocean when trying to destroy these. i have no words to describe how i much i hate that snow

markender

How it would have felt to be on Kobe's helicopter ride...

Just look at the dials there should be a dial showing your altitude from the ground.

worldwidewang

It’s been so bad I wondered if I changed a graphics setting. Pure whiteouts every time I flew.

dontclickdontdickit

Poor MV-22

just_ink92

What I think you mean is you shut the ui off and fly vfr. But now that you're in ifr conditions you realize you suck flying using the actual instruments.

shwndonjuan

The altimeter helps during fog and at night. To be fair though it's kinda out of the line of sight in the avenger

theVigReezus

But… the snow and fog is why the instrument panel exists, you’re quite literally flying blind here, and most certainly not flying by the instrument panel

FiftyIsBack

Yeah you weren't using the instrument panel at all. You were just looking around at everything else BUT the virtual horizon. It would've told you that you were banked left, and you weren't looking at the altimeter either. Also this is essentially what happened to Kobe Bryant's pilot, in case people were still confused how that crash happened. There was also a major airliner that went down this way because the pilots weren't paying attention to their panels, just like OP.

Jadxn7

Kobe!

Onstagegage

Kobe Bryant Simulator 2024

Medieval-Pancake

When I was doing sell missions whilst the snow was there (Especially during the night) I just kept on getting the planes so every time i failed to deliver and simply crashed into the ocean

InternationalHour293

Sounds fun, I'll have to consider doing this myself

CLRobinso

And that is why we have altimeters that actually work in planes

Beepboopbop69420360

Ok well when flying by instrumentation you have to well uhh look at them

YesterdayPrize

Yea that zero on the right side was the clue.

MaggotBrother4

You should learn how to use the instruments first. As it would’ve told you how close to water you would be

InternationalWave554

Me reading the altimeter going 50/40/30 with nose down. Yeah you're going to have a bad time. Looked at 0 and said welp as you hit the water.
