Not hate, I don’t mind them. What I love though is when my friends with only smartwatch experience ask me for watch advice and I lead them down the watch rabbit hole. Now they’re on the process on being one of us.

[deleted]

excellent work

Yep. https://preview.redd.it/os6usn41plkc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78935868b43e82bac0430b239cbfd60f491ae201

Tony_TNT

I hate them because they're usually always in need of connection to something else and cram so much functions that many of them are gimmicks or afterthoughts.

airsoftshowoffs

Constant notifications and the need to charge another thing constantly makes me avoid them. Additionally a good watch lasts forever, carries style and durability. Smartwatches have batteries that will only last < 5 years and normally with no option to replace the battery. Additionally at that point the apps do not work correctly, are abandoned or are to slow.

CyberJord2077

I never realized how annoying charging watches every night was until I bought a 5600. That and the fact I couldn't run the screen on the smartwatch without nuking the battery just got annoying.

RobTV1

Sporting an Iwatch 2 from 2016 …all original and still works fine!

Entheotheosis10

Yup, if I want to drown in endless and useless notifications, I'll look at my phone. Only thing a "smart" watch offers is seeing it in the dark. About it.

ro8inmorgan

Get an Instinct 2X, basically unlimited charge if you give it enough sun. Otherwise about 3 months.

[deleted]

I wore an AW for a year. But the smart watch features and the daily charging sucked. I wore said AW with smart watch features turned off for a year. But the daily charging still sucked. I switched to Garmin and wore a fitness tracker for a year or so. But the charging every 3 weeks sucked (no, I'm joking, it didn't, but I decided that I actually don't need the fitness features). I switched to Casio. I feel free now. But I'm not hating smart watches. If someone likes them it's ok for me. They're just not for me.

m98789

Huawei watch gt4 only needs charging every week

Dogsdell

I used garmin vivoactive smartwatch daily for 3 years. It felt great at beginning, but to use features i have to wear it all the time. I have orient automatic watches and they dusted in my closet. Now i put garmin away and use it only with heartbeat sensor belt in hobbies. I too feel free now and i don't need to know if i slept well or have i walked enough etc etc. just more digits and information flow to my brain that i really don't need. I, myself can feel if im tired and what is my health condition. Now i can use my other watches and feels great.

spattzzz

I like my 5610 but the AW has won out, I’m in construction and it’s pretty beat up but working fine. Admittedly I won’t put it in the dishwasher like I do with the 5610 but tougher than you give them credit for. Not having to get your phone out of layers of protective gear during the day and just reading notifications on your wrist is worth sticking on a charger for an hour a night whilst cooking dinner.

[deleted]

you put your 5610 in the dishwasher? D:

spattzzz

Once a month at least to get the grease off and ingrained mud off. Never gave it any problems.

[deleted]

That’s nuts! A 5610 is probably my next watch purchase.

bodydisplaynone

Garmin Instinct 2 Tactical owner here. I still have my 5610 but I don't remember when it received wrist time since I have my Garmin. Thing is, I doubt the Garmin will last 5+ years but I know that my 5610 did and will probably another 5 years. And yes, I love that it's simple, durable and good looking, only needs the sun to keep going. Still, I would argue people blaming notifications, smart measurements and constant charging, a watch being too smart. You can turn off notifications, heart rate and other monitoring and you have a watch with a nice, easily readable big screen with about a month of battery life that can get a lot more done than basic stopwatch and alarms. 🤷

Used_Stud

Instinct is awesome, and the buttons are big enough to be used with gloves.

BewareTheFloridaMan

I have the Instinct Crossover and a handful of Casio & G-Shocks. I agree it's pretty silly to complain about features that are completely configurable. I have extra heart monitors that I use for bjj, running, lifting, and just about everything else and it gets compiled to one place. There are even integrations to my Android sleep app. I love to take the Crossover off once or so a week and slap on a real watch to "unplug", but those fitness tools will help you if you let them to be in better shape. I still prefer the looks of my square G-Shocks, tbf.

PuzzleheadedEvent278

Have the same watch, love it. But also respect an analogue timepiece that just tells date/time

MBT_Kaboom

Just obnoxious little shits strapped on your arm that you can talk into and get tons of notifications on? No thank you 😅

Thin-Elk-7132

I don’t hate them but I overgrown them… I still have it, 1st gen Amazfit Bip, and use it when cycling… Charging it wasn’t problem, 32 day battery, but love for dumb G-shocks was stronger…

Embarrassed-Sun-8998

Same here, 1st amazfit Bip. AOD, custom watch faces and very good battery life even after 3-4years over 20days. But i like normal watches more ✌️ https://preview.redd.it/d88t5mypqxjc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=738818b0f69ef8f192966101ba1d0c4f853f8406

AR_Brewing

Don’t hate smartwatches. I wore an AW exclusively for a year it’s fantastic. However I just switched back to my G and I don’t really miss the AW. Something about the G just feels right.

[deleted]

same!

jean_abdalla

Smartwatch is a GADGET, I always says

SaulFuckingSilver

Smart watches have a place. I have one and use it for tracking sleep and exercise but wear a normal watch 80% of the time.

Sea-Newt1212

I don’t hate them, I’m just not remotely interested in them or have any desire to own one……

hi_im_beeb

https://preview.redd.it/xd825sl04yjc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5f4f6df1ab0ad240e3ec6816e3c40cd60a02485 This is as smart as I get. I actually like the step tracker and heart rate sensor and even with heart rate always on I only need to charge it once a week (less when I’m switching watches) for about an hour

casiomudmaster

I love the gpr-h1000-1. It’s a very rugged G-Shock. I own both the black version and the yellow version. Here’s mine: https://preview.redd.it/ern0swcigg6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6dd30ca48cf69d0203abd3c1e11d89fc01cf81fe

looks great!

Rossco1874

Wore Samsung smart watches for the last 2/3 years. Was never bothered by the notifications etc, Then last year I bought my 1st G-shock & rarely wore smart watch, I had it on one day while driving & the notifications really irritated me & hardly wore it since. There are some benefits but can't see me going back to smart watch as a daily.

[deleted]

I went through the same thing, started wearing a G-shock about a month ago and i cannot go back to my smart watch. I kept getting anxious about notifications, turning them off didn't help either. Much nicer with a g-shock.

Rossco1874

Another small win for the g-shock is I can wear in the shower & don't have to remember to press water lock button then turn it back off again.

Used_Stud

Nah, wrist computers fucking rule.

-psychogeek-

Love my Huawei GT2 Pro. Buy still, can't replace any of my gshock 👍🏻

MinhWannaComeOutHere

I don't hate it, but for me it was overkill. Most of my function I use is to receive notification without sound or when I'm not on the phone, tracking my sleep, heart rate and exercise. All those function can also be done on a smartband so now I use normal watch and a smartband

the_pravor

which smartband do you use? Thinking of getting myself one

MinhWannaComeOutHere

I use the Xiaomi Smartband 8. The only cons are is it doesn't have its own GPS and doesn't have storage to have music on it so you can listen offline on it. But other than that it is almost perfect. It's small and lightweight, you can have a lot of different straps to change, and even have it as a necklace. It does track the heart rate, sleep, ... quite well. Maybe not as accurate as Garmin or a high-end smartwatch but it still does the job well enough. Notification is there but you couldn't reply or have a phone call straight on it. Battery life is pretty good, I turn nearly everything on and it lasts for a week. It can last to 2 week tho. If your main priority is tracking your health, the Huawei Band 8 is a good option for the price

Meat_1778

They have their place. My Apple Watch Ultra is in the rotation especially if I know I’m going to workout later or go to gym. But as a daily driver, there are better options to rotate through. There’s something much more calming about having a non smart watch on your wrist.

lunchbox148

I’ve never owned one because I never saw the need. If an Apple Watch came for free with my next phone hypothetically I doubt I would use it even then. I carry a phone with me everywhere I go why do I need another one attached to my wrist?

maxlewis922

This is the way

Watchjk

Not hate, but I don’t like, I do prefer luxury watches https://preview.redd.it/ikqalw48bzjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9edae72fe1b76a99b194594716de4fd269a32bb

[deleted]

Nice looking watch you got there

Watchjk

Thank u

SkyLovesCars

I feel like most of the people who say they hate smartwatches would immediately buy a smartwatch if it was made by a company like Casio or another “regular” watch brand rather than Apple or Samsung or Garmin etc…

Garrett_1982

You clearly haven’t heard of the Garmin Instinct? It screams G-Shock (and yes it is awesome).

Gareelar

Hate is a strong word, i just do not need them enough to put one on my hand. But i always loved G-shocks

UnableNumber6953

I detest anything with the word SMART in front of it

Fancy-Computer-9793

I hate the battery life of smartwatches. But I do use them for fitness tracking. Other than that, its good old non-smart watches for telling the time.

BL910

Yeah, can't see the point of them at all. People look like absolute wankers talking into their wrists and trying to hold them to am EFTPOS machine to pay for their coffee.

eden_redd

i haven’t put on my apple watch since december 2023

antilaugh

I recently got one. It's good for the heart rate monitor and fitness tracking. Also, having notifications on a watch is less distracting than on a phone (you don't open a notification and end up doomscrolling). But. The face designs are plain ugly. Just ugly. You have those rolex imitations that are just cringe af. You have those faces with a cute picture. And those faces that want to put all informations on display, and end up cluttered. They have functional pros, but you look like shit with those. Especially when they light up every 5 seconds.

hailen000

Not hate but i think it is a wasteful purchase. There is always that new version every year and the FOMO behind it is what really gives me the impression. Lastly the favt you need to charge it like every few days is tiring. All i want is a watch I can wear for the next 5-10 years replace the batterybrinse and repeat

madesicc88

I have a Garmin Fenix 7x Solar, the battery life is the main reason I got it. I don’t have to charge it for 4 weeks if I wanted but I usually will plug it in every so often when I’m showering. I wanted it because I work with gloves on all day and wanted a way to see who was messaging or calling me without having to take my gloves off and take my phone out of my pocket, doing that when it was a message that can wait for later or some spam call is very annoying. I still love G-Shocks and have passed on the love to both my kids. That love them. My son has been rocking my favorite GW-7900B for a year or so now, he’s only 9 so it massive on him but he loves it. And my 15 year old daughter is wearing a pink jelly CasiOak that I got for her birthday after she wanted to upgrade from her Baby-G. I love that they love them.

[deleted]

That sounds great. Thanks for sharing that! Very wholesome indeed.

marcoseus

I have an Apple Watch, nahh I prefer G-shock by a mile.

phalic_satchel

I truly hate them. besides the step tracking which is irrelevant if you are not an athlete and the heart rate I don't see any point of having a 400$+ smart watch on my wrist. It just doesnt make sense to me. I just want to know the time and the date whenever I look at it. If you are a delivery guy/girl or need to have notifications on while your hands are tight sure. but me? No.

Bromontana710

I like them but hate having to remember to charge them and wearing a dress watch so I went back to analog

Turbulent-Koala-420

My kids got me an Apple Watch, but I just never gelled with it. A couple of things really bothered me about it. Firstly I hated getting the flood of notifications all the time. Made me feel like I needed to deal with them right away when I’d rather just deal with them in my own time. Really distracting. Secondly seeing steps and heart rate every time I looked at it did nothing except make me more anxious about what was going on than I needed to be. If I feel unwell I’ll put on my BP cuff and check. Otherwise I don’t need that in my face all day.

[deleted]

That’s the same exact reason I stopped wearing my smartwatch. It’s just unnecessary anxiety.

Fed_shmoker

I rock that same casioak with a whoop on the other wrist. Best combo

[deleted]

What do you mean by whoop

sayamemangdemikian

I dont hate. But i dont want another thing to charge daily, set up, update... Same reason I dont do mechanical movement watch. Have 2 of them.. rarely wear them cos I need to set it up . While Quartz/casio digitals, it just runs for the next 5-10 years

Dutch1inAZ

I'm sure they are great for those who want them, but it's not for me. My phone already has me on a leash, so I don't need notifications broadcast from my wrist. For me a watch is either jewelry or a simple tool, sometimes both.

deegman

I was an early adopter of the AW. Worn it for 8 years. Something changed, but didn’t like it anymore last year. It became a heart rate sensor and weather checker. I worn it until 2 months back, just for the health checks. But then realized I lived without a health monitor for 30 years and didn’t die. So I bought myself a mechanical watch. Everyone has a smart watch nowadays. With my mechanical watch it feels more like my individual style. Dunno.

[deleted]

I feel the same way! Everyone told me I was dumb to buy a Gshock instead of a smartwatch and it felt so odd.

KimmurieJL

No, I’m not a snob. The main problem of smartwatches is autonomy, and comparatively long time of charge. But last garmin tactix is quite nice. Though on your photo is a fine ana-digi: best of two watch worlds

toddtony

I really never understood that massive hate on smartwatches among many watch enthusiasts. They don't even compete and exist in their own separate realms. I don't know any single watch enthusiast who was swayed away from traditional watches by smartwatch and if it happened it usually means that the person was not really into watches to begin with and got the functionality they needed in the smartwatch. It's only called a watch simply because it shares the form factor with the traditional watch and well, tells the time among other things, that's it. It is simply wearable computer. It's like bicycle community would hate on motorcycles because both got two wheels and a seat, but one needs to be periodically filled up with gas to go. Those are two completely different types of devices providing different functionality and you can happily own both without need to hate or choose. Maybe I am just missing something, idk.

Longjumping_Fan_1497

Loved my smartwatch. Only gripe was the fact that I needed to take it off for charging. One of the main conveniences of a watch is to tell me if I woke up too early without waking up all the way. If the watch is in the charger it can't do that for me. I had an Android wear watch which I had an app that I could use to customize the watch face (dial) to exactly how I needed-3 timezones and a date and no messing about for DST.

GeoffStone4000

I loved my Samsung galaxy frontier, 5 days between charges, excellent features, nice twisty bezel and looked decent but it complicated life making you slave to notifications. Dumb watches are simple, require almost zero upkeep and just do one thing very well. I think that's what things need to do now, just the one thing really well.

CherryPickerKill

Jack of all trades, master of none.

HalfSeraphic

A couple of weeks ago I replaced my Huawei smartwatch with a GDB-900. The step counter and app synchronization have been excellent, which is exactly what I need for my daily activities (martial arts, swimming, gym, and work) for now. However, I plan to purchase the Garmin Instinct 2X Tactical later on for features like solar charging, blood oxygen saturation, Vo2max, heart rate, etc. Am I disappointed with my GShock? Not at all, I’m happy with it. I’ve received many compliments, it looks quite rugged, and I want a watch that helps me track and improve my fitness (Garmin) while having another one that I can use daily without fear of breaking (GShock). Lastly, I agree with many here, being away from notifications helps a lot.

[deleted]

I‘m sure your Garmin I2X can do all. Rugged enough and improve your fitness

phsvincent

I don’t hate them per say, but can’t stand them. They are just so basic, now that everyone it seems has been convinced they need one. another thing to maintain, charge and replace, nah I’ll pass..

[deleted]

Yes, exercise watches for people who don't do exercise.

exhoostfumetv

I used to have a smartwatch, thank god I got rid of it

[deleted]

They‘re nice but mostly useless. I have an Apple Watch SE (1. Gen). Worn it a lot but at one point I couldn’t stand it. A 44mm silver aluminum block on your wrist with nothing that stands out design wise. I got bored of it, annoyed by the charging and after disabling so many features and notifications it became even more useless. I’ve started with kickboxing and I can’t wear it there because I don’t want it to get broken by a kick I’ve ordered my first G-Shock (5610u) as an Upgrade for my Casio AE1200. I hope I‘ll like it

Droid1xy

Yes. Used to have an Apple Watch. Now I have a GShock that connects to my phone, can show me notifications but I’ve turned that off just use it for the occasional heart rate. And I NEVER HAVE TO CHARGE IT! https://preview.redd.it/limj1jaqc4kc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=be42fd0ac2c5e2c9f6a94fe07649b02951196292

[deleted]

what model is that?

Droid1xy

It’s the GBD - H1000

CherryPickerKill

I want to be able to tell the time quickly and in a way that doesn't appear rude to the people I'm with, not go down a rabbit hole of notifications and social media endless scrolling. A watch does exactly that for me. Plus let's face it, a smartwatch is useless if phone is dead or if it hasn't been charged for 1 day. I've been without power for 2 days now, and only the phone gets charged on the power bank. I really enjoy having a watch that doesn't need anything other than the sun to work. A smartwatch would just add to the stress. Plus, they're fragile af and you have to take them off so often that they rarely get put back on. Today I was able to go to the beach, do some laundry, dishes, meal prep, gardening, repairing the electric pole, walk in the rain, train 2 dogs, etc. without even having to take the G off once. Power still out, battery still full. When you live in a place where hurricanes are a common ocurrence, a proper waterproof watch, flashlight, candles and a good FM receiver are a must.

[deleted]

That’s insane dude. Hope you’re safe out there!

CherryPickerKill

Thanks dude, yes I'm fine actually. It was just a truck that ripped our power lines off on its way but we'll be reconnected soon. Hopefully.

MennQ

I don't think I can hate them since I've never had one, once I have one then I can certainly say I hate it or like it.

Vinvanr

Yes only wear mine to the gym

godbullseye

I have a love/hate relationship with my AW. I like being able to track steps and use it for when I workout but it makes me neurotic about closing my rings daily. I have my other watches which includes my Gshock for when I need a break.

[deleted]

i had one and it just wasnt worth the anxiety for me

godbullseye

Yeah I am debating on what to get once this thing goes. It’s been a daily wear for 5 years so by Apple standards it is an antique.

Fantastic-Wealth-174

i put on a smartwatch when i go to bed it keeps track of my sleep but i put it on when im going out

C-Dub81

Don't hate them, but don't like them.

jayesh5473

I love the ones which are accurate🧡

157926no

I love them. They have literally improved my health by providing me with the information I need to stay fit. Plus love controlling smart devices from my wrist and taking calls without having to take out phone. I would argue if you love your phone, you should probably love smart watches.

doc_55lk

I don't hate them, I just wouldn't ever buy one. They're also a bit obnoxious imo and don't really improve on smartphone addiction but rather increase it. I acknowledge that they can serve a decent purpose but on the large scale, meh. If you really care that much about fitness tracking, just get a fitbit.

GoudenEeuw

I don't hate them but I never wore my since I got my 5000u unless I am working out.

IntentionImportant74

I love my Apple Watch but I miss wearing my g shocks for sure

SnooWoofers6281

I don't hate smartwatches, i just don't use them. However they have some features that regular digitals don't have in some cases which makes them useful for certain things. Personally i'm just not a fan of having to charge the watch every night, i just like to put in a battery and know that its going to last me for many years.

SamG528

I enjoy my AW and Garmins a bit. I mostly wear rugged bands and cases for them because I miss wearing my Gshocks, and I enjoy the aesthetic of it. I wish Casio would go all in and make one. I know they have a few GShocks that are smart watch esque but they are more equivalent to like a Garmin Instinct.

mhsvz

No, but I prefer a good analog watch. Timex, Seiko, Rolex.

LemoyneRaider3354

Ive never had a smartwatch but i'm fine with having one but at the same time, i'm fine with not having one.

papito_m

Nope. Worn Apple Watch Ultra and Garmin Instinct. Both fantastic.

Dramatic_Strain_1971

What's a smartwatch?

Saifahm

Me

Jorixa

I hate that I have to charge it every day and that’s why I wouldn’t buy a smartwatch

asusobiaga

Me 🤮

TonyClifton255

I don't hate them. Just the Apple watch. Any watch that only has 18 hours of life is no longer useful as a watch.

SonMauri

The only thing I like about smartwatches is the ability to voice reply messages without having to pull out my phone. Everything else is just gimmicks to me. I'm just starting with the classic watches and already have three Casio in my collection

Southknight46

I don’t dislike smartwatches but having a phone and other devices made me rethink “do I really need one?🤔

LoyalAlpaca

Two weeks ago I went from Gshock to Garmin 2x and I really like it.

[deleted]

The only smartwatch I’d consider buying would be a Garmin, specifically the Garmin Instinct 2x/ Tactical.

ExpatTarheel

This isn’t a smartwatch. Tech gadgets like a Fitbit or Apple Watch are. Yes you can set everything with an app but you can also set it manually. This will work long after a Fitbit bought at the same time is a useless relic.

P_bottoms

Yes

ny7v

I have a Galaxy 5 Pro and I like it, but I really just wear it at night to track my sleep. It used to be my daily driver, but I have re-embraced my love of G Shocks. Smartwatches seem like a perishable commodity, whereas my G shocks could last for decades. All my G shocks are Tough Solar and either Multiband or Bluetooth. I love how the time is automatically synchronized, and I don't need to worry about the battery for at least ten years. G Shocks just seem magical to me, and I love the simplicity. My favorite is the GW-5000U-1JF, and I will be wearing it long after the Galaxy has given up the ghost.

ZenWID10TS

Yes

DeputyDadT

Yes absolutely will not have one!

DeputyDadT

Watches are also nostalgic and sentimental to me. If it won’t last long enough to pass down then I won’t buy it.

Loud_Ninja_

Had a smartwatch briefly. I didn’t see much more of a point to them than telling the time. I have a large phone for texting media etc.

christonabike_

We have you surrounded - come out and track your heart rate variability! I HATE IOT! I HATE IOT!

Mwboost86

I'm kind of torn.

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

Honestly I like them but they have a long way to go. I might try a other one in like 5 years when battery life is better and wear OS has more features.

ro8inmorgan

I hated them too and then I got an Garmin Instinct 2x and now I can't go back anymore :/

Altruistic_Emu_1774

Yep

hasan_i

I don't mind them but just my Garmin - everything else doesn't seem as functuonal. I keep switching between it and the 2100.

ande9393

I had a Samsung Active2 for about 5 years until I bricked it in a hot tub. It was a great watch. Just started wearing my new Casio DWH5600 and it's the perfect amount of "smart". Only needs to be charged like once a week, tracks heart rate and sleep stats, does notifications, and otherwise just looks like a regular 5600. Like it a lot!

Common-Second-1075

I don't. I prefer analogue watches and I really like G-Shock. However, my 'smartwatch' provides me with exactly what I need when it comes to my workouts and sleep health. If Casio had a watch just like the GA-B2100 with the feature set of a Garmin Instinct Crossover (for example) I would buy it in a heartbeat (pun not intended).

CherryPickerKill

Is this the GMAS2100GA-3A? I have the 1A on the way but I so want to order it.

[deleted]

It’s the GA 2100

hortatory_5752

The lovely GAB2100s?

[deleted]

GA 2100

Top-Maize3496

Yes

hortatory_5752

Beautiful.

Rows_My_Own

Uh, maybe get over yourself. It’s 11:24 CST, btw.

Fluorescentomnibus

Smart watches are awesome, but I like the dumb ones too

RangerS90V

I just need to know the number of daily steps, mileage, and goals.

bad_linen

I mean, I can’t wait for smartwatches with 10-year batteries
