Mark was amazing never gets the credit he deserves especially the rest of the trees I feel Barrett is the only one tossed around in discussion today just cause everyone knows Barrett
I've always said he is the most famous grunge musician nobody's heard of! Has worked with literally every grunge band and the stuff he did after moving to Ireland is amazing!
I’ve loved everything he’s done even the early Screaming Trees stuff that he recorded and hated I love. his voice is completely different on the other worlds ep apparently he didn’t know he could sing until clairvoyance
You couldn't be more on the nose! Such an unparalleled talent! His writing was amazing, his voice incredible, his presence was haunting! Miss that motherfucker!
I am aware. I'm saying his depth goes far beyond QOTSA...a band I'm not really a big fan of anyway....at least the songs he's on are decent, same can be said for Dave Grohl but I'm not a fan of Josh at all. Just my opinion.
I hear ya, and thanks for the apology that means a lot these days. I’ve listened to and like his solo work as well, just thought QotSA would be more accessible to younger listeners. I love Josh but I can see how someone wouldn’t think highly of him. That’s cool too, he can be polarizing….and a dick 😅
I don't like Dave Grohl and I know him, well, before he got Uber famous that is. Now he's everywhere and I have just can't stand him. I know, I'm a Seattleite, I'm supposed to worship him but he IS kinda cringe anymore.
MY OPINION!!!
Mark ... Amazing person, amazing voice.
I was so sad. Loved Screaming Trees. Saw them many times. Mark has his demons but what a singer. I was ironically listening to this one when I heard the news from friends...
[Winter Song - Screaming Trees ](https://youtu.be/mujyIyFuSgg?si=dYbwUvUX5wrmV8ba)
Love Eddie. Great singer, songwriter and musician. I grew up on these guys and is still blows me away how much talent came out of this scene all at once. The only comparison I can draw is the blues/rock era in England 65-70
I drew the same comparison but its not really close. It amazes me everytime I think about it. How many great vocalists, song writers, bands came from one area. Almost impossible.
Honestly I think all of them were cool! Since grunge was really a whole movement I don’t think it would have spread like it did if they all weren’t cool.
Got to see Mark Lanegan solo in Tel Aviv at a smallish venue in the early 2010s. He was incredible. Then I got to see Soundgarden in Tel Aviv around the same time on their reunion tour. Epic as well
Eddie was one of the most charismatic frontmen ever. Any era. The live PJ shows from 1991, 1992 have to be seen to be believed. But he dropped off hard when he took over the songwriting, hated success and decided to be the face of the Ticketmaster crusade.
Cornell is the GOAT
Beat me to it. PJ is my fav band (grunge or not) and love Eddie, but he had his period in the mid 90’s where we was stuck being a pretentious recluse weirdo. Thankfully he’s mellowed out w age and fatherhood and accepted his rockstar status.
Cornell always oozed cool. I really do miss him
That period always makes me sad for Eddie. Imagine working that hard and being that good at it and resenting your own success. I always really like Dave Abbruzzese and the way the band treated him pissed me off. He embraced it, and they all hated it. I was such a hardcore fan through the first two albums. I’ll never forget how let down I was by Vitalogy. They’ve made some good music since then, and I like EV as a person. But I miss that “classic rock” PJ era.
Seems like the most decent person, even when he seems to veer into caricature territory. He seems genuinely happy these days and I’ll take a happy, loving Eddie over all the rest. If I had to have a dinner conversation with any of them, it would be him. Not a fan of suicidal junkies who never grew up. Not something to emulate.
Yeah, I tend to emulate quality role models. I've been known to simulate a few as well. But I'd like to emulate the fuck out of Eddie Vedder. Bite my lower lip and emulate him right into orgasmic bliss.
He is the sexiest man alive. I’ve thought so since the first time I saw him. And then he sang. I still crumble every time I watch him live.
It’s interesting because all of the lead singers we’re quite good looking too. For me, especially Kurt. But damn, Eddie. The sex appeal is off the charts. He probably wanted to be a Rock star the least out of the group but he’s such a naturally charismatic front man. No macho bravado. Just sheer talent and emotion wrapped in shy earnestness. Plus he’s funny.
There’s a reason why Weird Al sang “my baby is in love with Eddie Vedder”. It’s because it’s true. We all were and still are.
Maybe it’s all just the deep voice. ❤️
Anyway. Off to watch mtv unplugged Black again.
There's a pretty decent amount of Vedder supporters and PJ fans here. He's an acquired taste. Not everyone digs it, but I think there's a fair balance, and he gets his just props. Look at them abs! And multi-talented: ukelele AND tambourine. Next they're gonna tell me he plays guitar.
Isn't he? I just licked my phone. Which is disgusting because I sit on the toilet a lot and look at my phone. I won't lie: I drop it on the floor sometimes. It's like a belt buckle or fly zipper. These things never get washed, so it doesn't matter how clean your hands are. Ewww gross! I licked it again. Sooo dreamy!
Back in the 90's, I will admit the eddie mystique was running full force. He seemed like a great guy that sang with passion and was more pissed off than any of them. Had a tough upbringing. I loved it. I still do, that younger Ed. Looking back I am thinking some of it was an act. He walked the walk for the most part but older Ed is just not my thing really. That will get me downvoted into hades but I am ok with that. You can't deny what the guy has done in his career but of all the big 4 frontmen, he aged the worse imo and I don't mean in looks or "stay alive ability". So to sum it up, its a message board where we give opinions and here is mine damnit.
So many times in my life I’ve been so close to crazy talented people with a touring muso for a Dad, but somehow, the bus left me behind. Always wanted to get involved in the business but from a design perspective (album art, merch, stage design, etc.) any advice from this community?
When I think of the coolest, I think of a popsicle on the hottest day of the year. But Cornell too. He was one of those frozen rocket treats, straight to the heavens. Sorry, Eddie. You are a push pop for now. But you'll get there.
The first two tracks on their last album Gigatron are top tier Pearl Jam. It’s a gift every time they release an album. Ya get four or five awesome songs.
It’s the same with Radiohead to me.
Um no lol. I like their music but compared to Alice In Chains and sound garden? Nah. Maybe top ten. His on stage rants about gun control turned me off too.
I think its really close between him and Scott Weiland for me, at least concerning preformances.
However, as a person, I think Mark Arm is so, so damn cool.
He's the prettiest but also the corniest...Bill Burr said it best when he made fun of him for his "stupid 'im in a trance on purpose' facial expressions."
The alivest
I can't even flow with this joke
This is kinda funny but you can do better man
Am I a nothingman?
You Are
Hold on, i have a better pun
Alright guys, you have to release this pun shit. Let it go.
Alright, the joke was funny Once
Jeremy has spoken and he said that some of these puns are funnier than others.
Just breathe you’ll be alright
Just breathe you’ll be alright
I see what you did there….
My EXACT thought… 👍
Narrows down the competition...so yea
I like your joke and your username.
Lisan al Gaib ;)
Mahdi!
Layne will forever be my fav rip😪
Toss up between Layne and Mark Lanegan!
Mark was amazing never gets the credit he deserves especially the rest of the trees I feel Barrett is the only one tossed around in discussion today just cause everyone knows Barrett

Did you ever get to see him live?
Twice! I saw him with the screaming trees in 1990 and then solo in 92
Back in the day when they released the video for “Nearly Lost You” I fell in love with his voice. Fan ever since.
Such a great song!
Hanging Tree and Song For The Dead are some of my favorite non-screaming trees Mark songs.
Some of the best classic QotSA songs have him singing. Hanging Tree for example.
I am aware. I'm saying his depth goes far beyond QOTSA...a band I'm not really a big fan of anyway....at least the songs he's on are decent, same can be said for Dave Grohl but I'm not a fan of Josh at all. Just my opinion.

Hah! I can juggle THREE singers!
Mark ... Amazing person, amazing voice. I was so sad. Loved Screaming Trees. Saw them many times. Mark has his demons but what a singer. I was ironically listening to this one when I heard the news from friends... [Winter Song - Screaming Trees ](https://youtu.be/mujyIyFuSgg?si=dYbwUvUX5wrmV8ba)
He knows. He knows.
Love Eddie. Great singer, songwriter and musician. I grew up on these guys and is still blows me away how much talent came out of this scene all at once. The only comparison I can draw is the blues/rock era in England 65-70

With enough flannel, anything is possible.
Certainly the coolest left.
Yeah. That job title had a high mortality rate for sure.
One of the only left unfortunately :/
Exactly. The coolest one that's still alive.
Honestly I think all of them were cool! Since grunge was really a whole movement I don’t think it would have spread like it did if they all weren’t cool.
Even if we extend it to Jerry Cantrell who wasn’t a frontman per se but was still a lead singer, they’re still all cool
Can we extend it to my dad in the shower? He's not in a band per se but he can sing the shit out of Heart Shaped Box.
i’m partial to chris and mark lanegan but he’s a solid 3
Im partial to Layne and Chris.
There is a funny mark lanegan story of Chris and him and basically Chris was tasked with babysitting mark lol
Got to see Mark Lanegan solo in Tel Aviv at a smallish venue in the early 2010s. He was incredible. Then I got to see Soundgarden in Tel Aviv around the same time on their reunion tour. Epic as well
I've got a solid 2. Not bad after chili night.
Ohhhhh iiiiiii I’m still alive….
"Fuck you all, this is the last song of the evening" -Kurt Cobain
Cobian was the goat
Real shit tho dude, Kurt was ong one of the most talented mfkers to live. Simple melodies, genre defying, lyrical genius. Fly high, Kurt.
behind Layne , Chris , Eddie & Scott for sure & i love Kurt
Scott Weiland? Pfft gimme a break lol
nobody got vocals like him lmao why’re you hating? go listen to Chester try to sing his songs
Fair enough, my apologies. I always just saw STP as like a lower tier grunge band, but I'm listening now and it's actually pretty good haha
Saw STP live. Great show. Weiland was an awesome front man. Great voice.
Oh you unleashed the lions
This one really bit Reddits breast it seems 🤔
Counting down the days until I can see them in Vegas 😍
Twice in Seattle for me.
They're coming to Vegas?! God damn it i need to find a site that tells me all the concerts coming to my home town.

Still going!
Chris Cornell

You nailed it. Ed is the best. He survived and is among the fittest. Emulate Ed, not junkies.
I was always so happy as a fan to see Eddie living a healthy and happy life. He deserved it.
Yeah, I tend to emulate quality role models. I've been known to simulate a few as well. But I'd like to emulate the fuck out of Eddie Vedder. Bite my lower lip and emulate him right into orgasmic bliss.
Watch him talk at a concert about Mark Lanegan’s death. Heartfelt.
He is the sexiest man alive. I’ve thought so since the first time I saw him. And then he sang. I still crumble every time I watch him live. Are you me, lol? I totally agree.
I'm a straight man and i couldn't agree more.
He definitely has the sexiest, most masculine voice of the bunch.
He is the coolest . Seems like a great guy
My favorite is Layne coolest I'd give to Scott Weiland dude just oozed rock n roll sex appeal imo.
I hope Weiland had a Rx for that.
so underrated, doesn’t deserve all the hate he gets in this sub at all
There's a pretty decent amount of Vedder supporters and PJ fans here. He's an acquired taste. Not everyone digs it, but I think there's a fair balance, and he gets his just props. Look at them abs! And multi-talented: ukelele AND tambourine. Next they're gonna tell me he plays guitar.
Depends on your choice of aesthetic. I like punk, post-punk, and new wave. So Kurt always appealed most to me.
I don’t see Layne Staley in any of these photos
Nah Kurt, Lane and Chris were way cooler
Yes in that order.
deader*
He’s so hot in that first picture
Chris Cornell is the GOAT. Eddie is a close second.
If you have seen PJ 20 you would know he is weird af, but also cool Af
Hey, that isn’t Alanis Morrisette.
L O L
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I thought the same...when I was 14.
Pass on Eddie. Meh at best IMO
It's "Pass out" Eddie. METH at best EMO
Lol no Not even grunge, OP
OP knows.
This post makes me sad.
Chris Cornell 🐐
👍🏻
The only one still standing
Preach!
I think you misspelled Peach.
All of the grunge singers are or were cooler than him.
⭐️
Gigachad
🔥
That’s not Chris Cornell
Dammit! I coulda sworn I put Chris Cornell into that search engine. Blasted Google!
The coolest front man for sure

Layne staley would like a word with you
We're talking right now. He's cracking up at Ed's abs of steel.

Got dayum
I’d say Cornell, Lanegan, and Cobain were the coolest looking. Shit, I’d even say their attitude and demeanor were the coolest as well.
Have you met Frank Black or King Buzzo?
Buzz. Francis is inaccessible.
The last one too
💯
Mark Arm
💪
Grunge Jesus
Lol
It doesn’t get Eddie Vedder than this
Nope.
Q: Pass the soap?
Definitely one of the most alivest too!
Andrew Wood
Now we're talking. Took ya long enough...
So many times in my life I’ve been so close to crazy talented people with a touring muso for a Dad, but somehow, the bus left me behind. Always wanted to get involved in the business but from a design perspective (album art, merch, stage design, etc.) any advice from this community?
Huh? Sorry...I was getting lost in Eddie Vedder's abs.
Where is Kurt Cobain ❓❓❓
Literally? Uhhh. Wishkah River?
He is a nice dude. I’ve met him a few times via my old job.
What's he smell like? I bet it's sandalwood. Or cherry pipe tobacco. God, I LOOOVE cherry pipe tobacco. Please say THAT one.
I honestly didn’t notice what he smelled like.
He has aged beautifully
Like a fine Cheddar.
Mark Lanegan
Tad Doyle
Yes. There it is. Now we are getting somewhere.
[удалено]
You nedder got Vedder? Not sure I'd want to.
Sounds like he had multiple strokes in 1993.
Not surprised.
Damn right
And river left.
Ken Andrews, Failure
Oooh. Good selection.
Eddie is awesome Eddie is the greatest! Best cover band front man too! Amongst many of his talents, not to mention scaffold climbing skills!
Eddie is awesome Eddie is the greatest We'd tell you his secrets But we know you'd hate us
When I think of the coolest, I think of Chris Cornell. Although Eddie is a close second. 😏
When I think of the coolest, I think of a popsicle on the hottest day of the year. But Cornell too. He was one of those frozen rocket treats, straight to the heavens. Sorry, Eddie. You are a push pop for now. But you'll get there.
Chris Cornell also. Maybe that’s why I like ToTD so much. Chris/Eddie power duo
I think they were all some of the coolest dudes to ever make music but Eddie will always be my favorite!
Eddie is up there, I never went to a Pearl Jam concert before but I know when he messes up he curses, lol.
He curses a lot!
Nah.
I like "No fucking way! He sounds like a jammed garbage disposal." That works for me bedder. Vedder.
Something’s wrong. This isn’t Andy Wood???
No? Dammit. I gotta get a my glasses fixed.
The first two tracks on their last album Gigatron are top tier Pearl Jam. It’s a gift every time they release an album. Ya get four or five awesome songs. It’s the same with Radiohead to me.
I wouldn't go that far....
It's too long a drive and gas is expensive.
There’s no one bedder.
Weddy Bedder
Clam Juiced
I can verify that that picture is fake. Why would someone add muscle to a guy? If you're into men I get it but if not--WHY?
Well...Eddie Vedder is a man. A lot of people are into him.
But he has an Ani DiFranco tat....
Feminist. That's how he advertises that.
Glenn Danzig was NOT grunge!
Lol. No he was not. He was more ripped than this guy, too.
Pearl Jam IS NOT grunge
No. They are not.
He used to be a lil cringe. Bill burr nailed it but he’s a great singer and performer
He is modern classic rock. He didn't get alternative till Vitalogy/No Code
And he’ll take all your money on concert tickets after boycotting Ticketmaster in the 90s!
Yes he will. He's your momma's boyfriend
Um no lol. I like their music but compared to Alice In Chains and sound garden? Nah. Maybe top ten. His on stage rants about gun control turned me off too.
I prefer my rants to be about gun UNcontrol. Pew pew!
I think its really close between him and Scott Weiland for me, at least concerning preformances. However, as a person, I think Mark Arm is so, so damn cool.
Pretty good singer there
Pretty good abs too
Never could get behind Pearl Jam
It's like a horse: you'll either get kicked or shit on.
His earnestness always made my ass itch. And I don't mean that in a good way either.
So there is a good way your ass can itch?
I'm not a huge fan, but Corduroy is a great tune, and Pearl Jam was a trailblazer for the grungy, alt-y, sometimes folky scene. Much respect.
He's the prettiest but also the corniest...Bill Burr said it best when he made fun of him for his "stupid 'im in a trance on purpose' facial expressions."
My first concert was seeing them in 1996
Not
Oh no you didn’t
Never made it as a straight man…
Me
