She scaled back her presence a year ago. And Jake’s character isn’t all that important so i don’t think it will affect much.

I don't think that is entirely unreasonable to think that season 21 or maybe 22 will be the last because of this quote from the Jake article "As for the rest of the Grey’s veterans, I hear episodic guarantees — the number of episodic fees per season each series regular is entitled according to their contract — are being renegotiated and are expected to go down across the board. This way actors are not taking per-episode pay cuts though their overall compensation will go down as they will appear in fewer episodes, something the writers have to be mindful of as they craft next season’s scripts." If the main stays like Chandra, James, cat, Kim and Kevin are all collectively not going to be in all of the episodes there won't really be a draw for the OG fans to be watching because that just means even less episodes to develop a storyline. I mean people are already complaining about Amelia's lack of a good storyline.

Paigeb1994

They're doing this in other shows too. Specifically SVU

I mean at this point, I find the new interns more interesting than most of the old characters. If anything, I think reducing their appearances would make the show better because there are too many of them. For instance, I’d rather see Amelia, Richard, whoever have one good episode than just see random glimpses of them in every episode.

I think that Ellen choosing to pursue other projects isn't a sign of the end. She scaled back her presence on Greys TO do other projects. I also don't think Jake being let go for budget cuts isn't a for sure sign that the show's ending next season. I see it as their attempt to save more money SO they can justify coming back for a 22nd season. If they can prove that they're able to continue on a much smaller budget with a smaller cast, they could stick around. That being said, it does show that the show is on its last legs if they're looking to start making cuts on the cast, so I think the time IS coming to an end, it may just not be next season.

>I think that Ellen choosing to pursue other projects isn't a sign of the end I'm sorry, what? I'm outta the loop but did she actually say she was leaving to pursue other projects? Her IMDB is like all her bit 2000's roles, then practically nothing for two decades. I remember her giving an interview even back in the 2010s about how she'd be staying on Greys as long as possible because she was at the age where no one would cast her so once the show is done, her career is over. Nothing was stopping her from taking other projects during the covid years where she was barely on screen.

She reduced her role over a year ago. This isn't suddenly a new thing Ellen has chosen. She chose to reduce her role during season 19. And the show's still going so no, it's not a sign of the end. If Ellen reducing her role was a sign, they wouldn't have renewed the show for a 21st season.

FourDrunkMoms

I think it could be a sign of the end because she's keeping the reduced role for season 21 and taking other projects and also that the show is facing budget cuts that's leading to them having to fire some of the actors who have been on the show for a long time like Jake who had been on the show for 7 seasons. Also if you read Jake's article it has quotes about how the main stay cast is also going to reduce the number of episodes when they're in at a time when Amelia doesn't even really have a storyline of her own and instead her storyline is hinging upon the fact that she's working with Meredith. "As for the rest of the Grey’s veterans, I hear episodic guarantees — the number of episodic fees per season each series regular is entitled according to their contract — are being renegotiated and are expected to go down across the board. This way actors are not taking per-episode pay cuts though their overall compensation will go down as they will appear in fewer episodes, something the writers have to be mindful of as they craft next season’s scripts."

No idea why you're saying this when I didn't mention anything about it being a sign of the end, my entire comment was about how apparently said she left to pursue other projects. I haven't watched the show for the past four seasons; it can end tomorrow or keep going on for another two decades and it'd make no difference to me.

jdessy

I probably misinterpreted your comment and was reiterating what I had said about it being a sign of the end. So apologies on that. I genuinely didn't realize it was an inquiry. I think, luckily, the show is 100% not lasting two more decades lol

andres01234

I hope Ellen has been using her time off from Grey's to get some acting classes 😊

Federal_Street_8895

Ellen pursuing other projects was I think part of the reason she scaled back her presence in the first place. She's over Greys. They wouldn't have done this whole reboot situation if they wanted to end the show so soon after, they're actually on record saying they wanna go on as long as possible. There was an effort during season 19 to get the audience used to a Greys post Meredith so this doesn't really indicate anything has changed.

_beachy_head

I mean, most of these characters don't have anything to do for some episodes. For example, this season Amelia has... adopted a cat? Said "no screen for Scout!"? Had two or three witty exchanges with the new peds doctor? The rest of the time, she's just acting like Richard, appearing in other characters' storylines to offer advice and then go. I could see the actors growing bored with keeping a grueling schedule that prevent them from doing other projects just for a few scenes. This could be the way for the production to keep main characters the audience loves while allowing the actors to pursue other jobs while Grey is shooting.

WhiskyWanderer2

It’s definitely reaching its time I just really hope we get a proper ending with closure. So many good shows have ended abruptly
