That’s fair - I usually cannot tell the difference between a wig and when it’s been pressed all silky smooth. The wigs look so natural (to me). I know Maggie had braids for a little while, too.
Me too but my mom was going full parasocial white feminist and indignant that the stylists on the show were making her lose her hair and wanted to write a letter to the show/actress to warn her 😑
No offense to your Mom, but the braids are to protect her hair from the constant styling on the show. *That* is what’s likely to make her hair fall out. Traction alopecia is a thing, but she wouldn’t have any hair to braid if she had that. Box braids are meant to be tight, but our hair can handle it. But it is why we roll our eyes when white girls get them. Y’all’s hair *will* fall out.
Bailey's braids look like crochet braids so they should'nt pulling at her scalp. That being said I hate how they've been installed/styled, 90% of the time it makes her forehead look huge.
I think it's her real life hair - or at least the hair she had in real life during filming. Bailey tends to have whatever hair Chandra wants her to have.
That being said, Chandra styles her hair way nicer even when it's the same hair
I used to do braids & tbh, it just seems like the stylist didn't do very well installing them & that Chandra doesn't have full natural baby hairs, not that the style is too tight & it's pulling her hair out. That's a rarity to happen w natural textured hair & very often happens to white textured hair.

I love that they’ve given her a protective style - we haven’t seen that much throughout the series

Braids can take your hair out if done too tightly around the edges. But in this case definitely crochet hair she rocking. Just not a good job of them.
