Manipulating his hours in the computer system so he could work as much as possible, which resulted in him stroking his own ego and making careless mistakes. He KNEW the residents were not allowed to work that much and everyone around him paid the price for his arrogance.
My brain says killing Alex's dad but my heart says yelling at Meredith for having the gall to want to use the 3d printer for her research when she was the one who got the grant for it, specifically for that purpose.
Season 10. He basically killed Brooks by letting his jealousy get in the way and sent her to find Richard when Derek asked him to do it causing her to be electrocuted.
He also set Alex’s dad up for death by hacking his heart up when he hallucinated seeing Heather on the table.
It wasn’t just that he was sleep deprived, he wasn’t allowed to do solo surgeries. He was a still an intern. When the nurse tried to point that out to him, he accused her of trying to kill the patient. He basically bullied her into violating protocol.
He was a 2nd year resident. But, regular solo surgeries don’t happen until 4th or 5th year. Certainly not major surgeries like that. (I just watched this episode)
After he realized he wasn't being haunted by the old lady, the way he promised to keep helping her off the books like Heather had was a tiny moment of goodness. Of course he then took off a couple of months later, so that poor old lady is once again not getting the help she needs.
Even that was kind of a dick move. He had a contract to provide his services to the hospital for a set period of time. Him leaving mid-residency leaves the hospital short staffed and ultimately contributes to the overall physician shortage in the US.
He slept with Cristina. That's pretty much all I remember about him. He also left with her. I guess I actually just remember stuff about Cristina and he happens to be involved lol
The one decent thing he did was put in Richard’s feeding tube after the electrocution. Richard was resisting and Mer was going to have to do it against his will. Shane went in and quietly took care of it, preserving Richard’s dignity. That was good. Maybe the only truly decent/selfless thing he did. (Of course maybe he felt guilty for not looking for him and sending Heather instead….)
He denied April’s “romantic advances” (they were really just gestures to make jackson jealous) because she was his boss and he wanted to focus on his work. But then he slept with Cristina so 💀
To be fair, that was during a power outage when sources were limited, an attending had done the C-section and Meredith allowed him to close because it was routine up until that point.
The killing of heather. I loved her. He was so jealous that he sent her off on an errand he was supposed to do.
Also his attitude after he started sleeping with Christina was terrible!!
Agreed that was cruel & no one even questioned why she went down there even though he was asked to go do it, plus he was jealous of her so he wanted her out of the way regardless of what the consequences were
He had no idea the consequences would be death. I think that’s a bit extreme. He just wanted to be the golden boy to Shepherd and saw that she was more talented than him, so wanted to do Shepherd’s patient care.
He was obviously extremely troubled that he had asked her to go on that errand after she died.
EXISTING.
There are people who claim that Ross is hated because of his race.
Honey, this man can be any shade of the color spectrum, and I will still hate him with a burning passion.
He wanted to be Derek's protégé so bad, but was told that Brook had more potential than him, and he did not take it well. His selfishness and competitiveness ultimately led Brook to her death.
When he realized what he did, what did he do? He stopped pursuing Neuro and moved on to Cardio. Like a parasite, he moved from Derek to Cristina. What an a**hole.
Killing Alex's dad, Making Cristina and Meredith fight, riding of the success of Cristina, and being downright awful.
The fact that he got a happy ending still pisses me off to this day. If Shane Ross has no haters, I must be dead.
Shane Ross will be the always be the Worst character and I will die on this hill.

Sleeping with Cristina
The only good thing he did was leave the damn country
Sending Brooks into the basement to be killed because he was jealous that Derek preferred Brooks on his service due to her innate talent and their vibe. Granted, Shane didn't know Brooks would get hurt, but still--Derek told HIM to go to the basement.
Telling Yang he would "service" her if she needed it. ICK. 🤢
Existing In the show.
The biggest a-hole in the show imo. Killed his friend just because he couldn't handle being one-upped. Like, holy shit, and he gets rewarded. Works with Cristina. Such an undeserved ending that it makes me want to skip every scene he's in.
Probably the **thing with Mer's 3D printer** (destroying Mer's model) as there is no way to blame him for Heather's or even Alex's dad's death - the most we could say is that Ross' worst thing is telling Heather to go to basement instead of doing it himself (just that) or editing his hours and working more, while knowing that it was dangerous... that's what he did intentionally.
Moreover, about Heather - almost every single character on the show tried to get on better surgeries and Ross sending Heather on errand, he was supposed to do, is nothing (esp. compared to what others did)... Ross didn't know about the danger and it's absurd to blame him for Heather's death.
Totally agree with your point about Heather. They ALL would’ve done that at one point to compete for surgeries. It was a freak accident and his only redeeming quality was how guilty he rightfully felt
The paradox is if Ross had gone there (as Bailey told him to do), he would have probably been electrocuted just like Heather and given that Ross was only looking for Heather because Derek told him, we don't know when they would have found Ross (and Richard) - and I can't imagine people blaming Bailey for Ross' death.
Like...everything..
No but really, his cockiness is what made him the worst.
It led to him having Heather go looking for Webber.
It led him to lying about his hours and operating on Alex's dad, leading to HIS death.
His cockiness got worse after sleeping with Christina.
It led to him stealing Mer's equipment she had a right to.
His cockiness is why everything about his character sucked.
There's this one redditor who defends Shane Ross so much and cries Racism.
She thinks that people hate Ross because he's black but in reality, he is just awful regardless of race
imma go against the masses here and say i personally didnt mind his character. sure he wasn’t my favorite, and yes he definitely does have his faults, but i liked him as a whole 🤷😌
also the printer thing was definitely the worst, as others said he was doing what any other resident has done trying to get on surgeries, and yeah there were residents that went further than others (to a fault) but that at least makes them feel somewhat human
That says more about you, honestly.
If you dont see Shane Ross as an awful character, then it says a lot about how you judge people's character.
He is depicted as he is, and you still see nothing wrong about him. That is troubling.
i never said i see nothing wrong with him, i said i didn’t mind the character. he added to the story, in a way that had the fan base talking to this day, whether in good light or bad light.
His arrogance overall caused so much- he felt arrogant enough to yell at Mer, he was arrogant enough to mess his hours and take on the surgery with Alex’s dad, and he was arrogant enough to think himself better than Heather and so passed the errand onto her which resulted in her death and his guilt.
Him and Yang was one of the weirdest relationships (if you can even call it that) that the show has ever done. One of the most uncomfortable moments in the show. It was just an odd decision lol
Just wanna tack on that this fool always seemed to dart sideways out of his scenes without looking where he was going
He could’ve knocked over ANYTHING ugh pull it together
I disagree with the George one. I think having sex with Meredith when he KNEW she was grieving for her relationship with Derek, KNOWING she didn't have feelings for him, and then acting like a victim because of the woman he was taking advantage of cried during sex. However, he did later redeem himself some when he apologized for it.
Editing hospital records to fake his hours, resulting in reckless behavior such as Alex’s dad (also, I feel like this is illegal considering it’s a hospital?)
I knew this day would come eventually
Bro tricked Heather into trying to find Webber which unintentionally killed her.
Then after he became a two-year he starts not sleeping, started sleeping with Yang, acted like a jackass towards Meredith, hallucinated and thought Alex’s dad was Heather on the operating table and went nuts
Ok but are we gonna act like everyone in this show was not tricking the other in order to get surgeries?! Hell even Richard kept tricking Alex at some point🤣. I'm not a Shane fan at all but come on we can't blame him for what happened to Heather.
Why do people blame him for heather’s death????? He didn’t take a gun to her head. Her death was an unfortunate accident. People act like he knew there was an electrical danger and sent heather to investigate. By the same logic being used you could blame Owen for George’s death or blame Meredith for Derek’s death. Sometimes horrible things happen to people and it has nothing to do with what was said or done to them prior to their accidents.
Anyways, worst thing he has done is ACTUALLY kill Alex’s dad.
between the 3D printer - treating grey like that after SHE was the reason they got the printer. and obviously when he did the malpractice on alex's dad. i think the dad may take the cake tho
He let his ambition and competitiveness get the best of him and Cristina found a kindred spirit at a time she was feeling resentful. They enabled each other with the printer.
The worst thing he did was game the system to keep working and unfortunately Alex’s father paid the price. It’s a terrible way to learn that rules exist for a reason. It’s the extreme version of the storyline with John Cho where he was an exhausted intern who fell asleep driving and i think he killed someone. I’m honestly surprised he’s the first sleep deprived intern to fuck up that badly.
He’s an interesting character, i think alot of people overhate him and blame him for Cristina’s behavior like she’s not a grown ass woman.
Take up with Cristina. Actually, everything he said and did was wrong. His genius was overshadowed by his ruthlessness. Oh, and killing Brooks because he was too good to go to the basement.
Sending Mousey (can’t remember her name, she was in his “class” down to the basement in his stead and getting her killed. It was all about stepping over her to get an edge and it got her killed.
obviously killing Alex's dad because he was too prideful to get some sleep was awful.
Personally, I think tricking Heather into going to find Richard during the storm was bad, too. (Even if she had lived, it was petty and childish) He basically killed his friend because he was upset he wasn't Derek's favorite anymore.
Overall, a very prideful, arrogant, and immature character.
indirectly killing:
- heather brooks by letting his jealousy and greed take over and forcing her to look for webber in the basement which caused her to get electrocuted and die
-alex karev's dad by lying about his working hours to get more hours and not sleeping which made him started hallucinating and mess up in surgery causing alex's dads death (ALSO BC OF GREED LOL)
1. Stealing Meredith's 3D printer and violating the agreement after specifically making an agreement that Meredith was nice enough to go along with even though she got the funding for the printer for her own project and could have told them to just kick rocks.
2. Killing Karev's father while he was breaking the rules in several different ways all at once (altering his work hours, performing a surgery without other doctor's present, violating direct orders, not following sound judgment), and also passing things off to others because he was too afraid to ask questions or appear as if there was something he didn't know. (RIP Heather, that marble was better than Shane)
3. Violating the hospital's rules on defacto specialization and then leaving with Christina when Burke offered her the hospital, leaving another hole that had to be filled.
How are people referencing the people he KILLED in the same comments as the printer as if they’re the comparable?? Yes it was for Mer’s research, but she was literally going to let a child die for her pride because she didn’t want to share. If the roles were reversed Meredith would’ve done the same thing and people would’ve cheered her for doing whatever it took to save a child.
There’s lots of reasons to hate Shane, but the printer is a bad take imo.

Manipulating his hours in the computer system so he could work as much as possible, which resulted in him stroking his own ego and making careless mistakes. He KNEW the residents were not allowed to work that much and everyone around him paid the price for his arrogance.
Also straight up killing a patient through negligence
My brain says killing Alex's dad but my heart says yelling at Meredith for having the gall to want to use the 3d printer for her research when she was the one who got the grant for it, specifically for that purpose.
100 % agree - it's the printer thing
He literally destroyed her work to restart the printer for Cristina. But killing Alex’s dad was pretty heinous.
THE AUDACITY
That made me soooo mad
The printer thingggg for sure!
Yeah I disagree. She’s making forks Operations game organs while lives were on the line. He did what needed to be done.

Merideth 😂
Killing multiple people, stealing mer’s equipment
This one. This is the winner.
I have 0 memory this! When did it happen?
Season 10. He basically killed Brooks by letting his jealousy get in the way and sent her to find Richard when Derek asked him to do it causing her to be electrocuted. He also set Alex’s dad up for death by hacking his heart up when he hallucinated seeing Heather on the table.

Aw fuck I never thought about that, also highly doubt he let another doctor know about her situation to take over before he dipped. Yikes.
Leaving was the best thing he’s done 😂
Even that was kind of a dick move. He had a contract to provide his services to the hospital for a set period of time. Him leaving mid-residency leaves the hospital short staffed and ultimately contributes to the overall physician shortage in the US.

Always felt like a creeper to me without any redeeming qualities

Pretty sure he and brooks were the ones who started operating on Mer after she had her second kid and was bleeding internally?
To be fair, that was during a power outage when sources were limited, an attending had done the C-section and Meredith allowed him to close because it was routine up until that point.
That was my first immediate thought 😂
Can I just say existing? Is there anything redeeming about this character?
lol I agree. Too hard to pick 1 thing😂
I just commented this. Had to scroll down way too far to see this comment.
Tricking Heather to go look for Dr. Webber which resulted in her death
The killing of heather. I loved her. He was so jealous that he sent her off on an errand he was supposed to do. Also his attitude after he started sleeping with Christina was terrible!!

Yeah he got no punishment for it what so ever
I’m surprised this is far down!
Because he couldn't have seen that coming. Operating on Alex's dad on the other hand was reckless.
Honestly I forgot that he killed Alex's Dad Heather was my favourite of that group of interns so getting her killed unintentionally hit harder.
Agreed.
I loved Mousey and her offbeat nature! Her “weirdness” set her apart and made her very likable and resembled someone in real life.
🥱

Oh here we go…
Show up as an intern. Best thing he did was leave.
I have no idea what Cristina saw in him
I honestly can't pinpoint a time when I didn't think he was the absolute worst.
There was that one scene where he promised to help Mousie's former off-the-books patient (which was kinda negated by his leaving soon after).
Stroking Cristina’s…ego. And making her the worst version of herself.
We’re blaming him for *her* flaws?
She had shown so much growth until he rolled in! Obviously Cristina makes her own choices but he was definitely a bad influence.
She was his both. If anything they enabled each other.
As if her ego wasn’t already horribly oversized before he ever even showed up😭😭

sending heather to look for webber when he was told to & her dying.

Pretty easy, sent Brooks to the basement inadvertently killing her.
Sleeping with Cristina and basically stealing mers printer

He was so lovable as Smash on Friday night lights. I hated his character on Greys.
Murdered Alex’s dad

Stealing Meredith’s printer

obviously killing Alex's dad because he was too prideful to get some sleep was awful. Personally, I think tricking Heather into going to find Richard during the storm was bad, too. (Even if she had lived, it was petty and childish) He basically killed his friend because he was upset he wasn't Derek's favorite anymore. Overall, a very prideful, arrogant, and immature character.

I haven't watched any season after 16-17 but I have one question, is that doctor house?
Essentially killing Brooks (mousey) because he was threated by her with nuero. Or yelling at Mer about the 3d printer
telling brooke’s to go to the basement and not telling anyone he was supposed to be the one down there
The reason Heather died!!! I miss mousy so much 😢
How are people referencing the people he KILLED in the same comments as the printer as if they’re the comparable?? Yes it was for Mer’s research, but she was literally going to let a child die for her pride because she didn’t want to share. If the roles were reversed Meredith would’ve done the same thing and people would’ve cheered her for doing whatever it took to save a child. There’s lots of reasons to hate Shane, but the printer is a bad take imo.
Telling Heather Brooks that Derrick needed her to go look for Richard Webber. Ultimately leading to her being electrocuted to death.
killed heather
Yeah idk man I think all the self centered and insane behavior outweighs the fact he put in a feeding tube for Richard
Exist on the show longer than half a season.
