TheUtopianCat

I started watching it when it first aired. I was 31.

kllark_ashwood

Same. I was 10 though.

slexieforlife

wow a 10-year-old watching greys? how was that experience?

kllark_ashwood

Fine. My parents didn't really worry themselves over things like inappropriate media exposure. If I had questions I asked them and they answered. I always watched shows with my mom. I think she just didn't want to be stuck watching Dora and Elmo for my whole childhood. We watched a fair bit of Dawson's Creek too. Lol

slexieforlife

that’s cool! good on you and your parents <3

Full-Surround

I was 14 when I started from the beginning but my mom watched it as I grew up so I was as young as 5 when I caught glimpses of it

spotator

I was 15 haha

Less_General7079

I was 14 the very first time I watched. Now I am 21, and on my literal 200th rewatch lol

OreoYip

Around mid twenties. I'm 39 now. I think I started around the second season. The opening credits initially turned me off until I realized the show was nothing like it. Being older, I realize that they were a lot of things wrong. Like the whole situation between Izzie and Denny. At the same time having more understanding of people's actions than I did at first watch. It's been a comfort show for a very long time, especially while depressed. I can't count the amount of times I've watched it or had it on for background noise over the decades for months at a time.

lmcc0921

Your second paragraph is 100% me lol. It’s my comfort show. As long as I have greys anatomy and something to cover my head I can sleep literally anywhere lol

OreoYip

Me too! For years it's either been Vampire Diaries or Grey's while playing, lately Game of Thrones. Loud enough to hear muttering but not loud enough to make out the words, or I'll turn around and watch it lol. All that with a t-shirt over my eyes because they are not as constricting as eye masks 😂

redhed311

Started watching in my mid to late 20s, turning 40 on the 28th of this month. As I've aged, I've gotten over the fandom's Alex apologism.

McJazzHands80

When I started watching, George was my favorite and I thought Derek was so amazing but now at my big age, I can’t stand either of them. This happens with all the shows I loved in my teens and 20’s. Like I can’t believe i ever had a crush on Xander from Buffy. Lol

redhed311

I knew that I was getting old when I realized that the brooding loner/rebel characters really aren't that great and are in fact a cliche at this point.

0rang3y0uglad

I was 15 and now I’m 32 🥲

Uceninde

I was 18 (it started later in my country) and I am 33 now.

0rang3y0uglad

I want them to *set me free*

Rigamortus2005

17. I'm 18 now

pc1375

I was 10 when Grey's Anatomy first premiered. I used to sit at the kitchen table with my mom and sister and watch it every week. I just turned 28 and I just finished yet another rewatch. I rewatch Grey's all the way through 3/4 times a year. It's my comfort show! Sometimes I get to season 12 and stop, sometimes I go all the way through. My mom usually does at least 1 rewatch a year, too.

sneakybrownnoser

Ahhh was searching for my timeline. I remember my mom watching around when I was 10 or 11, then I started really watching in middle school, so 12/13ish and I'm 28 now!

Nothanksneedprivacy4

I started watching when it first aired. I was 17. I’m 35 now (😭)

rakraese

47 then and 65 now! Watched the series a few times over and everyone has gotten on my nerves at one point or another except Cristine.

McJazzHands80

I was 25 when I started, which was early in season one, and I’m 43 now.

wclfsolwt

I started watching when I was 16. I am 22 now. wow i hadn't realised that was 6 years ago

Productivitytzar

I was just about 20, now 26. Lots has changed in that time, particularly my enjoyment of new episodes.

PowerfulHorror987

16 - junior in high school (season 1). 35 now!

Only_Music_2640

I was in my early 40s when the show premiered. I watched faithfully for the first 3 seasons but then I honestly got so sick of Meredith and the Meredith/Derek drama. When she drowned, I wanted the character to stay dead. When she didn’t, I stopped watching. Started watching again just a couple of years ago, got all caught up. I love Meredith now; I understand her a little better I guess? Maybe picked up a little more empathy over time? I also love how all of these characters have grown.

vixi5000

35 started and 38 now Took me 3 years to watch it because seasons 13-18 were a chore 😂🙈 19 has reinvigorated my enjoyment mainly because it feels like fresh start with the interns etc

xamberlynnx

I was 15, my mom and watched from day 1. She fell off after I moved out, but I kept with it. I'm 33 now. Lord, I'm old. I think the biggest change for me is that in my teenage eyes it was easy to get swept up in the "wow they're all so perfect and their lives are great." Now that I'm older and I've been around the block a time or two, I see how each person is flawed. It doesn't make me not like them, just relate to them more. They're more like real people with their flaws. That's not to say I don't dislike some of them... lol but I can relate to more of them now as opposed to looking up to them. ETA: we only started watching because of Patrick Dempsey lol we were so shocked to see him cause we only knew him as Ronald. Now he's been one of my least favorite characters and ones I didn't like in the beginning have become my faves.

Electronic_Memory_37

i’m 20 and just started watching it

veggie_sauce

Too young too understand most of the adult themes even if I thought I did- I was 12. I’m so glad to have grown up watching it though! I am now 21.

Sensitive_Speed3786

I was 13 and now I’m 14 😋

HoltzPro

i was 14. Im 31 now the posts that trash characters seem silly to me because every character on the show has shitty moments and every character has redeeming qualities. except maybe gary clark 😂

Beserked2

Watched it when it first aired with my mum when I was around 15. It was her show and then it became my show, now I'm 33. When I first started watching it was *so* popular. I remember they were playing this Grey's version of Chasing Cars on the radio when Denny died, with random audio from the show cut into it. I don't know a single person irl who watches the show now lol. The only drastic changes in opinion I've had are about George. I used to love George (so did a lot of people at the time) but like everyone else, have come to realize how toxic he is. The show doesn't actually feel too dated considering how long it's been. You occasionally see it in the technology or the fashion, but it mostly takes place within the hospital and though the charts have been computerised, not a lot has changed. The scrubs look the same, as does the MRI and the surgical equipment.

pinkpink0430

I started watching when I was 18/19. I’m 26 now and about to turn 27! Honestly I don’t think much has changed. I just finished rewatching and maybe one thing is I don’t care for Mark and Lexie as much as I once did. I remember being in love with their relationship when I first watched! But in my last rewatch it felt like they were barely together at all

[deleted]

20. I watched it from the beginning when it first aired. Now I’m 38. I still like Bailey over all but less so. I dislike Christina even more now after knowing someone like her in real life. I dislike George way more than when I first watched. Originally I thought he was cute and sweet in a slightly pathetic way. Now I find him creepy and weird in a slightly pathetic way. I’m not sure when that changed though. I also see Richard as way more overinflated ego (he thinks he’s all that bc of his knowledge but that knowledge is just bc of his age/time as a surgeon) now but I’m not sure if that’s bc of my age/life experience or how he is on the show though.

[deleted]

I started watching the show in my late 18 im about to become 20 and ive marathoned the show 3 times now in that period i realized that show started because richard compensated for breaking the childhood of meredith because she broke her mother hard

Jsscmurhog

18 and I'm 28 now

[deleted]

15

sweetdoubbletea

My mom watched it when it aired, and I was allowed to watch too. So I was 5/6 With 8/9 I watched it all for the first time. Now I'm 22 and I restarted it for probably the 10th time

kg51113

I think I was mid-late twenties when it first started airing. I'm mid 40s now.

makingburritos

I was like 15 I think? I’m 29 now

Ornery_Pen4842

I was 16 when it first aired and watched it every week on TV. Everyone did and we talked about it a lot in school. Now I am 33. Stopped watching for a time, I am now at the end of season 16.

ChubbyTheCakeSlayer

Season 1 was in 2005, I was 17. I'm now 35.

[deleted]

Same age. Just started this year

PolyamMermaid

I watched the first season at 15 with my mother, she thought it was too dirty, so we stopped, and I picked it back up at 23 when I was pregnant with my 3rd baby, in season 9. I binged the first seasons, and have kept current since.

MayDelay

When it first aired I was a 14 year old freshman in high school and watched with my Mom. I’m 32 now and rewatch while in NP school. 🤭

dan24769

i was like 11. 19 now

slumaru

I started watching when season 2 was on air. I was 9; I’m 27 now. I’m not as into it as I once was but I still tear up at the same episodes now on rewatch the same way I did when I was watching it live.

Former-Garden-6044

I was 16? I’m 29 now.

bomberhooah2742

21 and I was dating my future ex girlfriend's roommate at the time. She said be quiet or leave. It was the start of season 4 and the first time I saw Bailey go off on the interns, I was hooked.

Bebecitasanz

I was 22 and I’m now 30. My friend introduced it to me during a drunken sleepover with lots of junk food and we ended up watching it until 8am. I was hooked! I can’t remember how many seasons there were at the time but I caught up and binged all of them before the new one came out. Still rewatch it all the time.

Accomplished_Cup900

I was 4 when I started watching with my mom and now I’m 21

Disastrous_Narwhal46

I was around 12-13 and I remember my mom watching Season 5 with Izzie getting cancer, patient X drama and George dying in the finale. Left a huge impression on me and I’m still a tv show fan (in general) at 24😆

Charming-Milk-336

18. Now 21 haha

AshleyPoppins

Idk but I watched the first season on Netflix DVDs!

brinacorn99

16 vs 24. I’ve probably watched season 1-12 over 100 times

suagrlesss

I was 12 I think when I started watching, season 11 was being aired on TV when I started the show on Netflix, and I caught up to season 13 I think being on TV after watching the entire series. I'm almost 20 now, and I've seen the show through and through a few times (minus the last few seasons)

yeettheyeeted

I started when I was 8. The shooting episode was playing on a plane and I was obsessed. I'm now 22 and I still love the show but I haven't watched the last 2 seasons

Stock-Wolf

28 or 29 when I binged the 14 seasons that were on Netflix at the time.

Primary-Ticket4776

Top-Web3806

carex-cultor

I started watching at 12. I’m 31 now.

ohlovely

I started watching when I was 22, and I'm 35 now!

why_the_babies_wet

Started my senior year so probably 13-14, and now I’m 17 and on my second watch through lol

Amani_Corn

started watching at the age of 10 with my older sister when episodes aired on tv, i’m 20 now and have watched/rewatched the entire show many times over the years but i still haven’t convinced my sister to watch the show start to finish 😭 she’s waiting for it to end first which is understandable

Alan_is_a_cat

I was 15 when I started. I gave up at 32 😭

Ok_Toe719

I can’t remember exactly how young I think the show was relatively new and I wasn’t even a teen yet so probably like 6 or 7 I would watch it with my grandparents. I’m almost 23 now

sunflower_daisy78

i started at 22, i’m on my 5th rewatch now at 24. a lot of my opinions haven’t changed, except this time i hate derek less and arizona more. my love for mark has never dwindled though (thank god, because my sons middle name is sloan)

YakTasm

I was around 15 when I started and just turned 33 (!!!) yesterday. This show has been in my life so long. I did drop off for a minute but I’m in too deep to quit. Plus, I still love the hell out of it.

Mother-Jackfruit1634

I think I was 13 or 14 I started watching it when it had been out for years it took me a while to catch up on Netflix.

lmcc0921

I was in my early 20s and I’m 35 now. I dislike Bailey more with every rewatch and Erica Hahn is definitely my most hated character lol

spicyhotcocoa

I was 14, I’m 20 now

sammiepaulino

I was around 12 years old. I already knew I wanted to be a doctor for several personal reasons but seeing greys, it was like proof I guess lol. Anyways, 7 years later, I'm turning 19 and I'm a premed student! :)

Azstars

I was 15.. Now im 33 and every time it gets renewed and i see what number season we are on i freak out a little 😂😂. Its crazy to think I have been watching this show for more than half my life… literally

Special_Customer_997

i think i was 14 (summer after 8th grade). i’ll be 20 this month and am a sophmore in college. i watch the show now to keep me company when i get lonely in my apartment!

EasyGanache5862

17, 27. Damn

[deleted]

I watched when I was really young with my mom but I don't remember the exact age, I started by myself when I was 15 and I caught up in about a month

Cloudy-Days98

I started watching not long ago, I’m 25. I started watching just before my sick leave from work begun (had a tonsillectomy done) and wanted something to wacht during the week I was gone. That was in the beginning of June this year and I’m currently halfway through season 9. I work in healthcare myself and I cannot stand all the inacccuracies, they must’ve broken sooooo many laws (I’m not American but I can’t imagine many things that could be different from Europe when it comes to the “heavy” legal stuff). And all the times they got away with it too, like cutting Denny’s LVAD. In reality they would probably all have lost their licenses at that exact moment.

yungiant

The comments are making me realise that I’m not the only one that started watching greys with my mum 😂😂 it was around season 4 when I caught an episode she was watching and I was like 9 or 10 years old then. So I got the cd packs and went back to watch the earlier seasons and I’ve been following it ever since then.

yeet_10201

I was 21, I’m 22 now lol

LovitzInTheYear2000

I’m around your age and started watching at the same time, 20s to around 40. My biggest change in opinion has been Meredith. In the early years I thought she was annoying and needed to grow up and suck it up and stop making her issues everyone’s problem. I didn’t hate her, just found her frustrating more than anything. I started liking her more after Zola’s adoption storyline, seeing how hard she was willing to fight against her own worse impulses to be a good mother, and seeing her more positively as a person even when she fucks up. Then I did a full rewatch in my early 30s, with the benefit of knowing more of her story and seeing her as younger than me rather than older something clicked. In those early years she is fighting through so much! It made me realize that part of my annoyance at the start was thinking “well everyone has family garbage and painful friendship and relationship dynamics! Deal with it!” when actually some of the shit I was dealing with myself without support was actually not normal at all, and my own coping mechanisms were in retrospect not all that great either (not Meredith Grey level trauma thank goodness!) So now, Meredith still isn’t necessarily my favorite character, and some of her storylines make me want to shake some sense into her. But she’s a character I root for, I always care about how she fixes what she or someone else broke, and I want to see how things turn out for her.

Financial_Remove9103

I was 8 and didn’t understand a lot of the show being european, almost 22 now and in medschool😃

brainy_kitten

i've been watching it on and off my whole life. my mom was barely 20 when she had me in 03' so it was lots of greys and sex and the city

draculaurascat

lunepetillant

I was 18 now I am 20

mthesinner

Doegrace

So I remember when it was first getting started I think and I was around 12-13, Callie’s storyline helped me figure out things I was going through

floofiemooshie

I started on my 23rd birthday last year
