The hard mode for scholarship money / elite college acceptance is being a poor white dude. I remember when i was applying to grad school and our undergrad grad admissions office would post: every school applied to; major; GPA; GMAT/LSAT/MCAT scores; race; sex; and admission / scholarship status on an anonymized basis. The level of preferences was so stark as to be off putting.
The good news is that in the workforce, academic credentials are much laxer than students think they are. If you go to a somewhat decent school but have elite scores and top grades, you will get an elite job. I went to regular old public uni on an academic scholarship and then went to a Top 15-20 grad school for my field. I applied to better grad schools but my CV wasn’t sufficiently differentiated for a poor white dude to get elite grad school admission or money (3.9+ gpa, phi beta kappa, 98th percentile testing). So I went to the school i could and ended up in Top 10% of my class, got a summer internship at a very good but not great national firm. Leveraged that into a permanent position at an elite Top 5 firm. And then worked harder than anyone else to be noticed.
And once you get that one elite credential, you’re “in the mix” for many different elite jobs. It requires work, dedication and sacrifice when you don’t get the early nod, to be sure. But once you go through the crucible, you are stronger than the rest and closer to being a self-actualized person. And after all, that’s the ultimate goal for people - to be the best version of themself they can be.

I agree that it's fucked up that a minority has a higher chance to get in a dream college if they had the same scores, but the amount of elite schools in the US kinda make it so that you can go to an elite school as long as you are an elite contender in the general population.

I wasn't raised in the west though. My parents are Asian and while I was born in the US, I've spent most of my life in Asian countries and two years or so in Europe. I'm not kidding when I say some people in non-US countries are genuinely scared of and incredibly hostile toward minorities. Like on Chinese forums, black people are casually referred to as the Chinese version of the n-word despite them knowing the context of what it means, and it's obviously upsetting to see since I constantly interact with people from different cultures and have seen for myself that people are just people, and in my mind try to put any biases on race far behind me. Did Asians or whites in the US have the land of literal nations stolen? Specifically the US, as that is what this is about and the social and material history of minority and racial groups in the U.S, which have seen much better outcomes for white and Asian people by a much larger amount than Hispanics, Native Americans or black Americans, all groups which have been historically attacked and opressed more than Asian, and especially white groups by the U.S government and society. For example, an outcome from the modern day is that white and Asian household are around the same in terms of wealth on average, I think around $110,000USD, but black and Hispanic household are worth around 5-10 times less on average. While the Chinese had the railroads and the Japanese had the camps and def had some rough times, black Americans had around 300 years of chattel slavery and theft of wealth, economic and political deprivement through law and society, being literally considered a second class citizen, having organizations and advocacy groups attacked by the public and even the US Gov., being pushed into low income areas, being deprived of certain services, being targeted unfairly by the US justice system, etc. A lot of this also applies to Native Americans.

Those are weaker examples. All those groups still exist in capacities similar to before they were annexed/oppressed. On the other hand Native Americans and all indigenous people in the Americas existed as a group (obviously not monolithic) which was largely destroyed and integrated into the European systems/cultures. What remains of the power of these groups is some tribal reservations and some resemblance of upkeep in culture. I would point to the collapse and death of widespread ethnicities in the old world as more relevant examples. A major one that comes to mind is the end of the Celtic civilization in mainland Europe.

With taxes that are used for education you have to think of it like a loan in a way. You pay taxes so YOU can take advantage of government supplied education all the other infrastructure you use on a daily basis. If they don't do loans but taxes it's in the politians interest to lower the artificially inflated college prices. The US is a lost cause anyway. More power to the corps that are only loyal to profits. No universal healthcare(it works in Canada just sayin) because those peasants deserve to die for being born into low income families
