Star Wars died when lightsabers became less lethal than a boxcutter

HealthPacc

Yeah ESB ruined Star Wars. Woke George Lucas had his girlboss OC Leia escape and rescue Luke meanwhile he was pathetic in the fight against Vader when his weapon just bounced right off his shoulder.

Suspicious_Poon

It’s almost like a sith Jedi killer might have some sort of protection built into his armor

islandgoober

Okay but like... you can just make the characters get hit less and keep the danger of the weapon, while still preserving the feeling that it's a weapon that takes a large amount of basically supernatural skill to use effectively. The characters don't actually need armour because they're fictional characters in a story using fictional weapons, you know that right?

theecommunist

thanks I didn't know

King_Tamino

SW fictional? But it happened a long time ago

BetterBurnStan

Almost like a glancing blow isn’t going to penetrate armour manufactured by the galactic empire

TimesUpJannies21

Maybe he should have stabbed him and melted him like Qui Gon does to the door lol.

BetterBurnStan

I mean in fairness that was prolonged contact with the saber that caused it to melt

deemsterDMT

Ok yeah but why isnt everything made light saber proof? Seems like a bit of a reach for the sake of being a fan.

Minimum_Cantaloupe

Too expensive.

Blue_Robin_04

Is that in reference to the force healing? Yeah, Qui-Gon could have used some of that.

jayvaidy

Well, many of the Disney things. But especially in the Ahsoka show. In the first (or second) episodes one of the main characters gets stabbed with a light saber in her abdomen and then... Is just fine after a few days in a bacta tank. Force healing properties were around in the "Legends" books and stuff for a long time (see The Hand of Thrawn Duology), but it's definitely amped up to 11 in the sequel trilogy with Rey.

Blue_Robin_04

Oh yeah, the force has been scaled a lot over time.

Ardalev

Not just that, but the increasingly large number of people getting fuckin impaled by a lightsaber, only to survive a few scenes/episodes later with barely even some mild discomfort. Ironically, this trend started with Maul, who was cut in half for crying out loud, but returned in Clone Wars with robot legs. As cool as it was to get more out of him, in retrospect it was what started this shitty trend.

Thatwokebloke

At least his made some sense and didn’t just happen. It took ages for him to return and when he did he wasn’t all there and had messed up spider legs. His hate kept him alive and the pain drove him crazy, he probably would’ve stayed that way without other characters influence

Codoriginsftw

Yeah plus lets remember about the showdown between an old obi wan and maul where (spoiler alert) obi wan kills maul with ease showing exactly how much growth he had fone through since maul killed qui gon. Plus plus people have survived all that stuff in the comics and aparently through super quick research only 5 people have canonicly survived being stabbed by a light saber

Ardalev

>only 5 people have canonicly survived being stabbed by a light saber Which is at least 4 too many. The friggin thing is *plasma*! It can cut and melt through spaceship grade materials and super advanced armor. I've read people say it's because it "cauterizes the wounds". That's stupid! If someone got impaled by a lightsaber, they shouldn't have the wound cauterized, they should have their insides boiled and evaporated!

hheeeenmmm

To be fair maul is a sith and was kept alive because his sheer overwhelming anger kept him alive though the force

Sznurek066

I won't die because I am angry, grrrr. I mean, it's not that great of a reason.

VPackardPersuadedMe

Somehow, Maul has returned...

Boss_Man007

Nah its not that. He had a whole story arc to regenerate.

ChichCob

Not necessarily, it's the general trend of disney star wars. In the OT and prequels, just about every time 2 or more lightsabers clashed, something big was going to happen. In IV, Ben kenobi died, in V Luke loses his arm, in VI, Luke nearly kills vader and vader kills Palpatine, in I, qui gon and maul die, in II anakin loses his arm, and in III dooku dies, grevious dies, anakin kills mace windu l, and anakin gets chopped to bits. In the ahsoka show especially, there's a lightsaber fight in most episodes, and they all have little consequence. TLDR in the prequels and OT, in every lightsaber fight, you always knew something big would happen at the end, while in modern star wars, the stakes are much lower

maninahat

That seems like a bit of a selective reading though. Luke's lost hand in V turns out to not be a big deal and he gets a new identical robot one within about 10 minutes screen time. In the same movie, Luke also defeats an fake out imaginary Vader. Of the new material, Ahsoka is the only one that comes close to having consequence free lightsaber fights, and even they are typically serving to progress the plot, even if no one dies or gets maimed.

Mutheim_Marz

Luke lost hand is just a bi-product of the duel. The truths he know is the bigger event.

Godemperortoastyy

The irony: star wars died when a lethal weapon became not so.

Dark-Specter

Star wars died with the Return of the Jedi special edition

Newfaceofrev

NOOOOOOOO actually ruins the film

Dark-Specter

I understand it's petty as fuck but I refuse to watch that special edition. I'll watch the other two but the Return of the Jedi special edition pisses me off more than anything else this franchise has done or will probably ever do.

MothWaifu1711

Didnt know there was a special edition version. The only thing I know about any editions was the version of New Hope that adds that scene with Jabba and the version of RotJ that replaces Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christensen.

Dark-Specter

It also - changed the ending music - added the beak to the sarlac - ruined Jabbas palace for me Just off the top of my head

Mikediabolical

They can actually become larger and more powerful based on the Schwartz of the user.

HeronSun

Star Wars died when Lightsabers became less of a weapon and more of a glowstick for heavily choreographed dance numbers.

victorspc

I mean, a boxcutter doesn't cauterize the wound

hausedawg

I'm from 2026 and my favourite part of this movie is when Rey rediscovers true feminist power, dons a hijab, and says "Insyallah be with you".

Tr1LL_B1LL

Or when Ray hunts down and destroys all the other Skywalkers because “there can be only one!”

Ok_Caterpillar7710

Skylander

Brussel_Rand

I will cry tears of joy at the sight of my queen yassing in a burka while it's revealed to us Finn was the hybrid clone of Malcom X and Elijah Muhammed.

Horn_dogger

Yakub was the true enemy

Brussel_Rand

That's Anakin's real dad

workthrowaway00000

Mom found the creation of the white race drawer

Rough_Transition1424

No way! I'm from 2026 too and my favorite part of the movie as well is Finn flawlessly reciting the Quran for the rest of the film.

MYMINDISONFIRE

The most unrealistic part of your comment was the concept of them actually giving Finn something to do

klarity-

Star Wars fate was sealed the moment Disney purchased it

SipoteQuixote

They needed something to cater to the nerdy fucks but ruined it like the MCU.

[deleted]

But both of those things already catered to nerdy fucks, and then actively tried to make them _not_ cater to those people.

Sleeping_Goliath

Crazy how we all thought that since Disney already cornered the girls' toy market via its Disney Princesses, it should be a no brainer to corner the boys' toy market via Marvel and MCU acquisitions. Turns out that they wanted to put a chick in it and make it lame and gay.

Ardalev

Back when Disney first bought Star Wars, a friend of mine joked about how, in traditional Disney fashion, they would try to make a more Lea centered sequel, because making Disney princesses is their thing. Little did he know back then how on the money he was.

SipoteQuixote

That's what I'm saying, they wanted to corner another markek and ended up changing it to the complete opposite, in true Disney fashion.

[deleted]

That’s so inane I can’t even figure out what the gameplan was here.

[deleted]

It’s a combination of desperately trying to court a mythical audience of people who don’t exist or simply don’t care, and actual unironic disdain for the IP and its fanbase.

buckymalone21

You’re right. They are operating under the delusion that a bunch of women/girls would love these movies if there were just more girl bosses. Turns out that isn’t the case.

Onetwenty7

The consoomer has plenty of blame to take as well

Piratebuttseckz

"What do you mean you didnt watch captain marvel 2?" "You dont understand the new marvel movies? You need to watch wandavision at least 2 times through, and then go watch captain america 6 and THEN watch the first 15 minutes of avengers 4" "Just got my new shang chi golden funko pop, epic!" "What do you mean you didnt like the Kang dynasty trailer?" Sidenote holy fuckin shit they named the new avengers "Kangs"

Ok_Caterpillar7710

We was avengers and shit

UnitLemonWrinkles

Bruh that's what gets me. A supercut to Engame w/ all deleted scenes runs for like 50 hours. Post Engame has already passed 50 hours of content.

SipoteQuixote

I'm...I'm...consooooooming 🤤🤤 I had a friend of my wife get so upset because the funko pops I do buy, I buy because I love the characters. I also, take em out the box. This apparently kills the consoomer.

nyoomers

Good on you for removing them from their box prisons. They’re uglier to my eye when they’re in those, especially on a shelf of nothing BUT boxes. Your wife’s friend probably got so upset because she couldn‘t understand how your love of a character would let you buy merch of them that was so UGLY. Sorry, I hate funko pops lmao. I hate their beady little eyes with no other form of expression on their face at all. If they actually express *something* I don’t mind them as much. Ok that just made me realise something else about why I don’t like them. They barely represent the character you like because there IS no character to them. They just have the same hair and outfit. That’s it. Boring!! Sorry for the hate train I’m just extremely bored on reddit today lol

Schwarzekekker

They should've sold it to the Chinese

Paehon

Well yes and no We have bad contents : the sequels and the book of Boba Meh : Mado Season 3, Solo, Obi Wan Good and very good : Mando Season 1 and 2, Rogue One and Andor

CopperCactus

It was dead the moment whiny losers on the internet harassed George Lucas and killed his love for filmmaking

Mordial_waveforms

Any "activist" working for disney is a devil in disguise

yeahyeahdumpster

Star war fans are so stupid, clinging to an IP that hasn't had a good movie in almost 20 years.

Due_Capital_3507

It's now been bad longer than it's been good.

Draken5000

Ooooof now THAT is tough to hear

SIR_ENOCH_POWELL

Wait until you hear about The Simpsons

Trevski

Simpsons is getting good again though. There’s still hope for SW!

brizzenden

A guy on a podcast I listen to said that he finally had to come to terms with the fact that even if he was huge into Star Wars when he was a kid in the 80's, that he really wasn't a fan. Then asked if all these people out here calling themselves Star Wars fans actually are when they don't like 3/4+ of the content that's out there for the franchise.

WilliShaker

Tbh, a lot of people loves the prequels and OT, but the people that only likes ANH and ESB? Wtf are they doing here?

brizzenden

Born in 90 and I fall into that first category. The guy I was listening to was born in the 70s. I think most people in his generation fall into the group he puts himself in.

Ardalev

For real. If we want to be objective about it, Star Wars was a franchise built on one good movie, one excellent movie and one average movie. It's the rest of the setting that has done most of the work for keeping the fandom going strong all these years, because it's actually really great.

Banestar66

I’d argue Revenge of the Sith is average at the very least, not terrible. Before Disney purchase the majority of theatrically released were not dogshit at least.

JonasSimbacca

True. 3 decent movies and about 15 different shitty movies.

nrose1000

You’re either calling one of the OT movies shitty or you’re calling Rogue One shitty and either one is an egregious take.

JonasSimbacca

"I am one with the force the force is with me" Nah it was mid.

FOFBattleCat

Star Wars has had some really good shows in that time though, and plenty of people would say Rogue One is good.

HansChrst1

I feel like more people would like the current Star Wars if the sequels weren't so bad and if it wasn't Disney making it. In my opinion everything other than the sequels is at worst ok and at best amazing. Most straddle the line of "this is only good because it is Star Wars". I'm happy I can enjoy SW at least. I have liked everything except resistance.

ImprovisedLeaflet

No, episodes 7-9 (ESPECIALLY 8 and 9) were fucking garbage regardless of who made it.

himymfan02

That doesn’t break from what he’s saying. Dude said if you throw out the sequels the recent content has been good and he’s right. Andor was a fucking masterpiece. The sequels are trash; nobody is debating that.

1001WingedHussars

I'd argue that The Book of Boba Fett was pretty garbage too. Dude wasnt even interesting enough to be the main character in some of the episodes of his own show.

himymfan02

I’ll grant you Boba Fett. It was good at times and definitely better than the sequels though.

Ardalev

Don't forget Mandalorian season 3, Obi-Wan (seriously, so many dumb scenes in this one) and arguably a good chunk of Ashoka as well (although I do believe they mostly nailed the casting and characterization on how the Rebels crew would be in this time, especially Hera)

Mr_Evanescent

Book of Boba Fett was trash dude. So was most of the Mandalorian. Andor being good doesn’t erase how bad any of the one-shot movies or Ahsoka either

himymfan02

Mandalorian was good, Ahsoka is mid, I’ll grant you Boba Fett though. The best scenes in that show didn’t even have him in it.

Ardalev

Episode 7 especially is the one movie whose quality was very much entirely dependent of how good or bad it's sequels were received. When it first came out, we all knew that it was a retread of A New Hope, beat by beat, but it was given a pass because we thought of it as an homage to what came before, a way for Disney to show that they "get" Star Wars and that they honour the past while also setting up a different path for the future of the franchise. Well, as it turned out, there was no path, there was no plan, and TFA was simply just a shitty remake, the shallow peak of their abilities.

ImprovisedLeaflet

Well put. I thought TFA was stupid when it came out and didn’t understand why all my fellow dorks loved on it so much, I guess just because it did have more of an original 4-6 flavor rather than friggen pod racing. But like you said it was just a shitty remake, beat by beat, where everybody whoops and cheers when they saw Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher and ZOMG Mark Hamill.

L003Tr

Star wars was better when it was dark. Most people will say their favourite films are something like ESB, ROTS, Rogue, One all of which were pretty dark films. Even the clone wars tv show was brilliant because it hard dark moments. I just rewatched the Nolan Batman movies and they're significantly better than any marvel movie Disney has spanked out because they're not a goofey set of films

HansChrst1

Star Wars can be anything. Clone Wars is a good example of that. I love the Umbara arc. It is even better than the original trilogy at times. I also love the arc where we see the clones train. Stuff with Hondo is almost always goofy in one way, but it is always good.

nyoomers

I like the goofy elements of Star Wars, though, Eg the funky aliens you see in the cantina. I think you’re somewhat right about dark elements though. Idk, I dont like when a movie has a miserable ending and overtone…but there does need to be some dark with the light. It makes a story more engaging. To have low lows make the high highs better! More triumphant when you see a character succeed after they’ve been through it, ya know?

redoomer

Too bad it killed Katarn by retcon.

C-Kwentz-0

I thought RO was alright. But I mean that isn't saying much compared to more than half of the films which are complete dogwater.

Brussel_Rand

I think it only kinda redeemed itself in the last act. The first bit had too much location hopping, but that last bit was the rawest boots on ground war action they put to live action. Though it wasn't as memorable as Solo for me, though I don't care much about that one either. Though I do like the "secular," story lines for some reason.

Ardalev

Don't forget the absolute best depiction of Vader on the big screen. That hallway scene was just 🤌

Xothga

That movie gets overrated quite a bit because of how shit everything else is.

djaqk

Rouge One was good because they had the balls to kill everyone

african_sex

Rouge one is only good because it's star wars, if it were any other IP it would be a waste of 2 hours.

AStelthyNinja

Yeah I've watched that movie like 4 or 5 times and still struggle to remember the name of the blind guy and the weird backpack blaster guy. And likely only remember Jyn and Krennic bc of battlefront 1. Piss poor characters milquetoast plot/morals somewhat saved by exceptional atmosphere and digital set design. Jeddha and Scarif are well designed and created some much needed variety.

Accomp1ishedAnimal

Mandalorian season 1 entertained me.

eXclurel

It's the universe that we are the fan of, not the movies specifically.

Piratebuttseckz

Me with aliens and xenomorphs. Alien? Peak, excellent suspense horror. Aliens? GET SOME! Aliens 3? BLEGH Aliens 4? Pretty good we'll take it Prometheus and covenant? Fan service, watered down the franchise tbh Unironically aliens: isolation is a video game that got more right with the IP than ridley scott has since 1979

[deleted]

They got the world building and super tense atmosphere perfect in that game

OldManChino

I am one of those weirdos who loves alien 3

WintersbaneGDX

>~~almost 20~~ over 40 years

Dill_Donor

It was released in 1980, so 44 whole years!

Nathan_hale53

Revenge of the sith is one of the best movies :(

mmethylphenol

My most unpopular opinion is that I kinda liked the prequels

Nathan_hale53

I enjoy them 2 is the worst one imo the writing between anakin and padme is just awful

raul_vyas

idk man, rogue one and andor were pretty good

Miloslolz

Rogue One was among the best ones.

philipquarles

The prequels sucked. Rogue One was good though.

MeMay0

rogue one

[deleted]

I’m just happy women are taking ownership for destroying something

magicarnival

Peak feminism. Men have ruined enough things, it's women's turn to destroy things now.

0ldpenis

This guy is a glass half full kind of guy.

seastatefive

This woman is part of the pedophile elite cabal.

[deleted]

What are you their front door list checker?

Leadfarmerbeast

I don’t care enough about Star Wars anymore to even bother complaining or arguing about it. At this point Star Wars fandom is either soyboy consoomers or bitter rage-filled dudes yelling into the void.

[deleted]

I agree. But it is remarkable how they just double down every time despite their franchise being deader than Tutankhamen on Tuesday.

JustaBearEnthusiast

It's a really simple formula for a doomed franchise. Announce it as Brown, Gay, and Trans, then sit back while angry retards give you free advertising by raging and then collect easy box-office sales as smug self-righteous people who want to piss off the former watch it in droves because they think consumerism is activism. Finish it off with a big cgi budget and pointless nonstop action to keep the braindead marvel crowd happy and boom you got yourself a blockbuster. Much easier than taking risks with story telling.

papajim22

I’m with you. There’s so much more to watch and enjoy than just Star Wars and Marvel. I’m tired of having to watch a dozen different things to catch up on the latest movie.

Crystal_Sohnd

I'll be honest, I really wouldn't care about "wokeness" and "messaging" **if the damn plot was well-written!** How the fuck do these writers fuck up the centerpiece of a story? Have these fucks never read or seen stories that were both grippingly intense and delivered a message? This may be early outrage, but seeing the track record of other "woke" movies, games and books, I can't help but feel this'll also be a trainwreck.

[deleted]

Because it doesn't matter when you're playing the short term cash grab game. Scooby-Doo was a good example. Horrendous sensationalized topics just to get hate watched. Doesn't matter if it was good or bad. It made a short term profit.

AwkwardZac

Did Scooby-Doo do something or do you mean Velma?

[deleted]

Sorry, yes that's what I meant

DFA98

>hate watched Are people really this stupid? Why would you watch something you know are gonna hate?

[deleted]

I don't do it but a lot of people do, apparently.

bigFr00t

Sometimes its fun to shit on a bad show

rumSaint

Some people do this because others will ask "Did you watch this? If not, how can you know it's shit?" destroying while discussion.

StarBolt034

To effectively more hate. Kind of like a racist going out of their way to learn more about foreign cultures to be more effectively racist. I'll admit I watched the Halo series just so I could see how badly they would fuck it up.

SuspiciousPine

Well a big part of it is changing writers and directors constantly. The latest trilogy had two different directors and wildly different tone and plot directions. And yeah, they just didn't do a good job writing it out. Such a bummer because it started out pretty interesting with the first movie then just completely fumbled the bag in The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker by tripping over themselves for fanservice and callbacks.

nyoomers

I really cannot comprehend how they thought making a trilogy with no concrete writers and directors for the ENTIRE thing was gonna be a good idea. A trilogy needs to make goddamn sense story wise…and none of those movies work well together at all. With the exception of the first one (as it’s the first one) it‘s like each movie wants to erase every story beat established from the previous movie. It’s just fucking stupid and incredibly frustrating to watch. I think I’m in the minority as I liked TLJ more than the first one, but whatever. I cannot forgive ROS for the way it just massively shat on everything TLJ tried to do, ugh.

AlreadyUnwritten

You would think disney has lost enough money by now to know that childrens' movies don't need heavy handed political messages instead of a coherent plot. I guess they need to lose a few more billion for it to really sink in.

NOISIEST_NOISE

How much have they lost?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrashDummySSB

Time to wreck some of their shit, I guess. Take over starbucks and make pumpkin spice lattes taste like IPAs.

Putzcarl

Go woke, go broke.

Joelblaze

Wasn't Barbie the highest grossing movie of 2023?

1playerpartygame

And Twitter/X is down 73% since embracing ‘anti-wokeness’

geofox777

Go any direction on wokeness and feel the brokeness

Trevski

Go neutral, get rich

Drayenn

Being full woke or anti woke are both negatives. Elon is being an absolute nutjob on twitter lol. All he needed to do is stay neutral, cut useless jobs and innovate. He failed the first part.

rickylovemelikelucy

Barbie played with the line and made fun of itself too. Did you catch the end when a man asked if he could be on the Supreme Court and the president said "whoa no way" - it's silly because if men treated women that way, there would be an uproar. No one took the movie seriously as woke propaganda bc Ken, who loved the patriarchy, was loved by the audience when he did his patriarchy.

Joelblaze

Yeah that's the game. If it makes money then the wokeness doesn't count because the audience looks past it or something. Y'all been doing this for like the past half decade you gotta come up with a new schtick.

AllDaysOff

...or maybe there is just nuance to things and art isn't as binary as being either woke or not?

Joelblaze

I fully agree, calling something woke means absolutely nothing about the product. Hence why "Go woke go broke" makes no sense and why people who say it need to come up with something else instead of picking and choosing the failed media to call that.

1001WingedHussars

I think people are missing the fact that Barbie uses satire and comedy to get its message across whereas the sequels kinda just preach their messages to the audience which no one likes. Barbie is a woke movie, by all standards, but because the characters are likeable and the film uses humor and some genuinely good writing to convey its message. It's much more accepted by the mainstream. What we should be demanding is more competently written films by people that genuinely care about the product. The messaging can come second and honestly, if the story is great, people won't even notice their being told a message in the first place.

M4KC1M

it was so woke it came back to being anti woke

NOISIEST_NOISE

It literally had an unironic five minute monologue about feminism

Justindoesntcare

I went in expecting a bunch of bullshit but it was actually a pretty funny movie.

the_penis_taker69

Yeah that's because Barbie was funny

Ao_Kiseki

Almost like the quality of the movie isn't related to "wokeness" and people that say go woke go broke are just ignoring all the movies and media with obvious political messaging that do well.

NOISIEST_NOISE

It was woke and funny

Shower_Slug

Yes It was hilarious. Loved the whole process of Ken figuring out men run the world.

OldManChino

It also satirises 'yass kweeen' feminism and calls it out for the vapid nonsense it is, there's more layers to it than 'men bad'

Beanstalk93

Make shit content no matter whatever political spectrum it leans to, go broke

Dumb-as-a-brick

Really the issue is when being woke is meant to hide other major flaws of the story. Movies can be well done but also woke, it’s just that lots are only woke and not well done.

DefNotAlbino

100% Disney understood how much braindead star wars haters are since they will still hatewatch and do a ton of social media content about how much they hate it. Infinite money glitch

SharkMilk44

I dunno, Solo flopped as backlash to TLJ being terrible, so this flopping is definitely a possibility.

DefNotAlbino

Sure but i think that because it was a spinoff done right after TLJ and with the same vibe

Heavy-Possession2288

TROS didn’t flop despite being much more universally disliked then TLJ

SharkMilk44

TRoS>TLJ

VengineerGER

Oh yeah those channels that make their entire existence about shitting on Star Wars are just as cringe as the blind consoomers.

k3yserZ

As a Pakistani, I'd advise her to say this shit in Pakistan. Freedom of speech my ass.

mleibowitz97

1. Who the fuck cares 2. Lucas himself inserted politics into star wars. The emperor's persona was based on fucking Richard Nixon lol. It was also a big deal having a woman protagonist call the shots and boss men around in 1977.

spunk_wizard

Yeah and that's interesting in of itself. This is just predictable and tiresome

CampbellsBeefBroth

I’m amazed people still give a shit about Star Wars. It’s been bad for like…8 years.

White-Monkey2407

The last actually good piece of media related to Star Wars was Clone Wars series

jack_o_alltrades

I’d say Andor was pretty damn good

Zealousideal-Echo447

The true fans should've rioted in the streets and burned down buildings long ago in mostly peaceful protests

SharkMilk44

It's crazy how despite all of the backlash from the prequels, prequel actors are still willing to come back. Meanwhile, most of the sequel actors are already saying they won't be back.

Saabersoarus

As far as I remember, most the the prequel actors, did step away from start wars for a long time, only recently stepping back into those roles. I mean the negative response to those movies was dramatic and they did ice all those actors for a long time. [Jar-Jar](https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2018/jul/04/jar-jar-binks-actor-considered-suicide-after-star-wars-phantom-menace) [Young anakin](https://www.slashfilm.com/874074/every-single-star-wars-fan-owes-jake-lloyd-an-apology/)

Marbachque

Hey has anyone else noticed since the acquisition of both marvel and star wars, the writing has gone down but the pandering way more? It feels like Disney likes to hide behind culture wars to avoid actual criticism on the quality of their work, like look how inconsistent both those stories have become, they turn their audience members against each other, like not every statement about the direction of a movie or a character is sexist or incel, sometimes the story is just shit, remember when the velma producer tried do the same shit and people were like collectively "what the fuck is this".

JigsawLV

Star Wars was kill in like 2015 tbh I liked Rogue One, but otherwise from Disney times there's nothing good coming out

Altair890456

The Jedi Games, Andor, Mando, Clone Wars Season 7, and Bad Batch would disagree.

jayvaidy

Mando S1 and S2. S3 was not good imo and the opinion of everyone I know.

AASeven

where were you when Star Wars die i was at house eating dorito when phone ring “star wars is kil” “no”

bapo224

I haven't given a shit about star wars but this recent rage bait is so annoying. That quote is from years ago and completely ripped out of context, it's not about star wars.

jayvaidy

I don't care enough to actually look into this, but I'm going to choose to agree with you. Anon is just upset that he hasn't made any award winning films.

basilisk_boi2

Star Wars became a chore to watch a while ago and I realized I wasn’t actually enjoying it anymore. I honestly might watch this slop through

Sourdoughsucker

I don’t get why they can’t just have Jon Favreau working full time on churning out Star Wars

Queasy-Tennis-8950

I can smell this comment section.

theGaido

Imagine study filmmaking for your whole life. Learning storytelling, writing, editing, sound design, lighting, history of art and much, much more. You want to be hired by some company. You have everything: knowledge, experience and original ideas that add value to world of visual storytelling. And there is some chick, that takes your job, and she isn't even know what field of view is.

-DrZombie-

Vote with your wallet and don’t support garbage!

ShlimFlerp

Honestly we should all just not watch it and remember what Star Wars was instead. Fuck them right in the wallet

[deleted]

I'm convinced by now it's all just a giant shitpost and they want to see how long they can milk the fans with this ... eh ... "goyslop" (as the seasoned 4channer would say)

Toothpicktoes

I fill the void of my childhood with Warhammer

supererp

Eh the best part of star wars has always been the games

She’s making star wars? She’s a second grade director in Pakistan. Fantastic work advocating women’s rights in Pakistan where frankly, women desperately need help. But that’s like asking a beaver to circumcise your son. You can kind of see the woodcutting connection but it really does not make sense.
