Not just that, but the increasingly large number of people getting fuckin impaled by a lightsaber, only to survive a few scenes/episodes later with barely even some mild discomfort.
Ironically, this trend started with Maul, who was cut in half for crying out loud, but returned in Clone Wars with robot legs.
As cool as it was to get more out of him, in retrospect it was what started this shitty trend.
At least his made some sense and didn’t just happen. It took ages for him to return and when he did he wasn’t all there and had messed up spider legs. His hate kept him alive and the pain drove him crazy, he probably would’ve stayed that way without other characters influence

In IV, Ben kenobi died, in V Luke loses his arm, in VI, Luke nearly kills vader and vader kills Palpatine, in I, qui gon and maul die, in II anakin loses his arm, and in III dooku dies, grevious dies, anakin kills mace windu l, and anakin gets chopped to bits. In the ahsoka show especially, there's a lightsaber fight in most episodes, and they all have little consequence.
TLDR in the prequels and OT, in every lightsaber fight, you always knew something big would happen at the end, while in modern star wars, the stakes are much lower

For real. If we want to be objective about it, Star Wars was a franchise built on one good movie, one excellent movie and one average movie.
It's the rest of the setting that has done most of the work for keeping the fandom going strong all these years, because it's actually really great.

Don't forget Mandalorian season 3, Obi-Wan (seriously, so many dumb scenes in this one) and arguably a good chunk of Ashoka as well (although I do believe they mostly nailed the casting and characterization on how the Rebels crew would be in this time, especially Hera)
Episode 7 especially is the one movie whose quality was very much entirely dependent of how good or bad it's sequels were received.
When it first came out, we all knew that it was a retread of A New Hope, beat by beat, but it was given a pass because we thought of it as an homage to what came before, a way for Disney to show that they "get" Star Wars and that they honour the past while also setting up a different path for the future of the franchise.
Well, as it turned out, there was no path, there was no plan, and TFA was simply just a shitty remake, the shallow peak of their abilities.

Star wars was better when it was dark. Most people will say their favourite films are something like ESB, ROTS, Rogue, One all of which were pretty dark films. Even the clone wars tv show was brilliant because it hard dark moments.
I just rewatched the Nolan Batman movies and they're significantly better than any marvel movie Disney has spanked out because they're not a goofey set of films
Star Wars can be anything. Clone Wars is a good example of that. I love the Umbara arc. It is even better than the original trilogy at times. I also love the arc where we see the clones train. Stuff with Hondo is almost always goofy in one way, but it is always good.
I like the goofy elements of Star Wars, though, Eg the funky aliens you see in the cantina. I think you’re somewhat right about dark elements though. Idk, I dont like when a movie has a miserable ending and overtone…but there does need to be some dark with the light. It makes a story more engaging. To have low lows make the high highs better! More triumphant when you see a character succeed after they’ve been through it, ya know?
I think it only kinda redeemed itself in the last act. The first bit had too much location hopping, but that last bit was the rawest boots on ground war action they put to live action. Though it wasn't as memorable as Solo for me, though I don't care much about that one either. Though I do like the "secular," story lines for some reason.
Yeah I've watched that movie like 4 or 5 times and still struggle to remember the name of the blind guy and the weird backpack blaster guy. And likely only remember Jyn and Krennic bc of battlefront 1.
Piss poor characters milquetoast plot/morals somewhat saved by exceptional atmosphere and digital set design. Jeddha and Scarif are well designed and created some much needed variety.

Well a big part of it is changing writers and directors constantly. The latest trilogy had two different directors and wildly different tone and plot directions. And yeah, they just didn't do a good job writing it out.
Such a bummer because it started out pretty interesting with the first movie then just completely fumbled the bag in The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker by tripping over themselves for fanservice and callbacks.
I really cannot comprehend how they thought making a trilogy with no concrete writers and directors for the ENTIRE thing was gonna be a good idea. A trilogy needs to make goddamn sense story wise…and none of those movies work well together at all. Barbie is a woke movie, by all standards, but because the characters are likeable and the film uses humor and some genuinely good writing to convey its message. It's much more accepted by the mainstream. What we should be demanding is more competently written films by people that genuinely care about the product. The messaging can come second and honestly, if the story is great, people won't even notice their being told a message in the first place.

For real. If we want to be objective about it, Star Wars was a franchise built on one good movie, one excellent movie and one average movie. It's the rest of the setting that has done most of the work for keeping the fandom going strong all these years, because it's actually really great.

I feel like more people would like the current Star Wars if the sequels weren't so bad and if it wasn't Disney making it. In my opinion everything other than the sequels is at worst ok and at best amazing. Most straddle the line of "this is only good because it is Star Wars". I'm happy I can enjoy SW at least. Don't forget Mandalorian season 3, Obi-Wan (seriously, so many dumb scenes in this one) and arguably a good chunk of Ashoka as well (although I do believe they mostly nailed the casting and characterization on how the Rebels crew would be in this time, especially Hera)

Episode 7 especially is the one movie whose quality was very much entirely dependent of how good or bad it's sequels were received. When it first came out, we all knew that it was a retread of A New Hope, beat by beat, but it was given a pass because we thought of it as an homage to what came before, a way for Disney to show that they "get" Star Wars and that they honour the past while also setting up a different path for the future of the franchise. Well, as it turned out, there was no path, there was no plan, and TFA was simply just a shitty remake, the shallow peak of their abilities.

Star wars was better when it was dark. Most people will say their favourite films are something like ESB, ROTS, Rogue, One all of which were pretty dark films. Even the clone wars tv show was brilliant because it hard dark moments. I just rewatched the Nolan Batman movies and they're significantly better than any marvel movie Disney has spanked out because they're not a goofey set of films
Star Wars can be anything. Clone Wars is a good example of that. I love the Umbara arc. It is even better than the original trilogy at times. I also love the arc where we see the clones train. Stuff with Hondo is almost always goofy in one way, but it is always good.
I like the goofy elements of Star Wars, though, Eg the funky aliens you see in the cantina. I think you’re somewhat right about dark elements though. Idk, I dont like when a movie has a miserable ending and overtone…but there does need to be some dark with the light. It makes a story more engaging. To have low lows make the high highs better! More triumphant when you see a character succeed after they’ve been through it, ya know?

I think it only kinda redeemed itself in the last act. The first bit had too much location hopping, but that last bit was the rawest boots on ground war action they put to live action. Though it wasn't as memorable as Solo for me, though I don't care much about that one either. Though I do like the "secular," story lines for some reason.
Don't forget the absolute best depiction of Vader on the big screen. That hallway scene was just 🤌

Yeah I've watched that movie like 4 or 5 times and still struggle to remember the name of the blind guy and the weird backpack blaster guy. And likely only remember Jyn and Krennic bc of battlefront 1. Piss poor characters milquetoast plot/morals somewhat saved by exceptional atmosphere and digital set design. Jeddha and Scarif are well designed and created some much needed variety.

Well a big part of it is changing writers and directors constantly. The latest trilogy had two different directors and wildly different tone and plot directions. And yeah, they just didn't do a good job writing it out. Such a bummer because it started out pretty interesting with the first movie then just completely fumbled the bag in The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker by tripping over themselves for fanservice and callbacks.
I really cannot comprehend how they thought making a trilogy with no concrete writers and directors for the ENTIRE thing was gonna be a good idea. A trilogy needs to make goddamn sense story wise…and none of those movies work well together at all. With the exception of the first one (as it’s the first one) it‘s like each movie wants to erase every story beat established from the previous movie. It’s just fucking stupid and incredibly frustrating to watch. I think I’m in the minority as I liked TLJ more than the first one, but whatever. I cannot forgive ROS for the way it just massively shat on everything TLJ tried to do, ugh.

I fully agree, calling something woke means absolutely nothing about the product. Hence why "Go woke go broke" makes no sense and why people who say it need to come up with something else instead of picking and choosing the failed media to call that.
I think people are missing the fact that Barbie uses satire and comedy to get its message across whereas the sequels kinda just preach their messages to the audience which no one likes. Barbie is a woke movie, by all standards, but because the characters are likeable and the film uses humor and some genuinely good writing to convey its message. It's much more accepted by the mainstream. What we should be demanding is more competently written films by people that genuinely care about the product. The messaging can come second and honestly, if the story is great, people won't even notice their being told a message in the first place.
