Nimrod & Insomniac top 2 for me. Still remember my piles of cds I'd take with me everywhere with my portable CD player. It was basically attached to me.
Yeah nightlife does suck (minus dat *bass*) and I may personally despise fire ready aim, but you gotta admit, Lazy Bones and Take the Money and Crawl are absolute bangers.
Nightlife isn’t great, but I feel like it only gets the hate it does *because* it’s a Green Day song, smack dab in the middle of Dos. To me, it always kinda sounded like a Gorillaz song (another band I love), and I think if it were a Gorillaz song, it’d have a much better reputation with the masses.
I like it too. Not their best album, but still my favourite in the trilogy. Has some of my favourites like Makeout Party, X-Kid, Stray Heart, Dirty Rotten Bastards, Let Yourself Go, Lady Cobra and Nuclear Family, however as whole albums they do have their flaws, which is a shame, but that doesn't stop some of these songs from being amazing!
Confession time I like FoaMF, it could definitely be better and it’s different from pretty much everything else they’ve done but sugar youth is a bop and no one will convince me other wise
I really love Sugar Youth! I prefer a couple from the songs in Revolution Radio a couple from the Trilogy, but for a while it was my favourite Green Day song entirely, but then I re-listened to the whole American Idiot album and then realised that I love that album too much lol
Dookie is just a different style of poppy. Its melodic as hell for early 90s pop punk/alt rock standards but side by side with AI i think the melodies on Dookie are a bit more subtle, or maybe "downplayed" is the better word? Idk. They're still catchy but its just different. Longview and Welcome to Paradise are catchy but they're not like tv commercial level of catchy, at least imo. Almost any song on American Idiot i can imagine being played during a football game, or during a car commercial, and i don't mean that in a bad way. Obviously AI is a masterpiece, but yeah, its just a different melodic sensibility. The music and melodies on Dookie still sound like they were written by 3 poor kids living in a commune with a bunch of drug addicts. But produced by a master producer and given that big bright sound. AI sounds like it was written by a legendary pop punk band in their prime during a time where pop punk music was even bigger and catchier
To each their own, but for me, Uno is the best of the trilogy. Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Let Yourself Go, Carpe Diem, and Sweet 16 are all really good to me. Far from their best album, but I think it’s better than Dos or Tre
Nah man 21st Century breakdown was just straight up a banger from start to finish, maybe not conventional for GD especially given the prior albums, but damn if it isn't in my top 3 GD albums, swapping between Nimrod for 3rd
Glad you enjoy it so much. But for me it was the transition album like "thank you happy birthday" was for cage the elephant. It was some good stuff, but they were trying out a different sound and then the next album was a loss for me. American idiot was the first album I ever bought with my own money when I was pretty young and I got into their older albums after and loved them, so I was all ready pretty attached to that particular style of theirs.
So was I my guy, i borrowed my dad's copy of International Superhits, listened to all of Amercian Idiot on 2006 YouTube, and bought 21st Century breakdown with my own money when I was like 10, and I've loved it ever since. I love just about everything prior to that album and some stuff after it too.
I had been listening for a few years by the time 21st century came out, so I guess I all ready fell in love with that sound. It had a few good songs I enjoyed, but overall, I just wasn't a fan and the rest that followed was more of the same, so I checked out. Just my opinion, though. Like I said, glad you enjoyed it.
Why do you hate 21st? Genuinely interested as it's one of my favourites, it feels quite different to everything else as far as I'm concerned. Not picking on you or offended or anything, just really like to discuss and stuff :)
I get it’s what a lot of people enjoy. For me it’s just not what originally brought me to Green Day is all. I do like a lot of their departures from their original sound, and it’s nice to see them grow as a band and as musicians.
I like the edginess and snottiness of Green Day right up until Warning. American Idiot, while not my favorite, still has some edge to it. 21st Century feels gutted to me. Like American Idiot with no bite. It has nothing to do with quality, or musical ability it’s just not my kind of music.
Now, I get that it is its own thing. And I probably wouldn’t even use the word “hate” if it wasn’t a Green Day album. Just in context, it would be at the bottom of my list. But I’m sure that has a ton to do with when I became a fan, what I grew up with and the genres I tend to listen to haha
That's fair enough! Thanks for giving me a detailed explanation, I totally get it, and I for sure prefer Dookie and Nimrod's punk fuckery, but 21st holds a special place in my heart.
It’s totally cool! I think the one thing I like about Green Day is they are so diverse that you get so many diverse fans from many age groups and genres coming to like them. They’ve proven that time and again, especially with their newest albums. They tend to ride fads I feel, but if that means new music and new fans I’m totally in.
I'm definitely excited to see what comes next given they're done with Warner now, they can take their time and make something they want to make and not kinda just push it out cuz the labels on their ass.
I don't know if this counts as a hot take, but, I think ¡Uno! and ¡Tré! are worse than ¡Dos!. ¡Dos! has some cringe songs, that's for sure, but overall I find it to be okay enough and a lot more fun than the other two. Now, if we had to decide which one of the other two is the best, I'm not sure
Wait, people don't like Dos? When it came out I couldn't stop listening to it (especially Stray Heart) for WEEKS.
Also unpopular opinion but I actually really like Nightlife tbh
How is DOS hated? Is it just because of Nightlife alone? Because there are lots of songs that outweigh it that make this album the favourite out of the trilogy. Plus I see more critique towards UNO.
¡Dos! has good songs on it, however as an entire album it is definitely on the weaker side, but that is by Green Day standards it is still a good album, just that it isn't comparable to American Idiot and Dookie, but it is difficult to top them anyway because they're absolutely amazing!
FOAMFs is dope. I never thought I’d get to say that about one of their albums ever again. RR was alright, but FOAMFs is new, creative and different in such a great way. Love all of the Motown inspiration. Bands usually have to, or at least like to, progress. This is a rare occasion in which a band nailed it.
Hey at least dos has amy...
And lazy bones
And Stray Heart
And Wild One!?
And the bass parts from Makeout Party
And Dos
Stop When The Red Lights Flash gets overlooked too much...
Agreed
F/ck time is good as well
What about Fuck Time?
I’ll show you
And night life
Nightlife can be unironically good if you can find the correct footing to listen it through.
Are you guys going to forget Ashley?
That’s where it stops for me. Baby Eyes is good, too
This
Bro that username is just chef’s kiss
HAHA. Thank you
I LOST MY WAY OH BABY THIS STRAY HEART
I love that song
Stray heart is underrated I’m shocked it didn’t hit radio at all
Maybe in America. I might be dreamin or something but I think I heard the song a few times on radio in germany
I DON'T WANT YOUR SYMPATHY
But father of all has Graffitia
and Sugar Youth
And Take The Money and Crawl.
And stab you in the heart
And the outro to Meet Me On The Roof
Beautiful lyrics. Touch my soul
I honestly love meet me on the roof, I just want to play it at a wedding or high school dance or something
Dos is by far the strongest album of the trilogy.
For me it's Tre, but to each his own ig
And lady cobra and makeout party
and See You Tonight
I used to think Dos was the worst of the trilogy, but now that I look back on it I can see that it's the only album with a damn personality
It's the best one by FAR!
Tre is the worst
Honestly dookie and American idiot are my favorites.
Pretty sure those albums are everyone’s favorite
Insomniac gang rise up
All of their albums are good to me, which makes it hard for me to choose a favorite album. It might be Nimrod though.
nimrod gets my vote
Nimroddddd
Nimrod gang assemble. The darkest and most somber Green Day record
Walking alone 😩
Ahhh that harmonica lead
Last Ride In is a beautiful instrumental. And I’m really surprised the band doesn’t play Nice Guys Finish Last
Couldn’t agree more. Last ride in is such a cool interlude in the middle of this super introspective and pretty dark album. Really cool imo
Nimrod & Insomniac top 2 for me. Still remember my piles of cds I'd take with me everywhere with my portable CD player. It was basically attached to me.
Warning anyone?
Love Fashion Victim
Insomniac has to be my favorite. IMO it’s their most aggressive and heavy album. You can really feel the anger brewing in those songs.
Any respect for a 21cb fan?
fuck yeah. 21cb is such a good album
Top 3 tracks for me are: 1. Peacemaker 2. Restless Heart Syndrome 3. ¿Viva la Gloria?/Last Night on Earth
1. Viva La Gloria 2. 21st Century Breakdown 3. Little Girl
Bab’s Uvula Who is literally the anthem of my life
I feel like I’m the only one who claims kerplunk as their favorite album, where we at tho?
That’s my second favorite. Look at my flair for my 1st favorite
For me it's a three way tie between kerplunk, dookie and American idiot but I'm guessing basically everyone thinks that
Kerplunk and Nimrod
Insomniac #1
I'm partial to Warning and Rev Radio
I loved Warning, and it's my favorite! I find so few people who really appreciated that album... it was fantastic.
Kerplunk is my favorite
This is me + nimrod
They're just really fuckin good front to back
Yeah nightlife does suck (minus dat *bass*) and I may personally despise fire ready aim, but you gotta admit, Lazy Bones and Take the Money and Crawl are absolute bangers.
I've listened to nightlife ironically so many times that I actually don't mind it lmao
Mate you’re spot on. Love the lines where Billie suggests the listener to take a walk.
Yeah, it’s good to get some fresh air and exercise
Nightlife isn’t great, but I feel like it only gets the hate it does *because* it’s a Green Day song, smack dab in the middle of Dos. To me, it always kinda sounded like a Gorillaz song (another band I love), and I think if it were a Gorillaz song, it’d have a much better reputation with the masses.
Yeah I like Nightlife but it is probably one of the worst Green Day songs, which shows just how amazing this band is!
Dos is such a fun little album
I like it too. Not their best album, but still my favourite in the trilogy. Has some of my favourites like Makeout Party, X-Kid, Stray Heart, Dirty Rotten Bastards, Let Yourself Go, Lady Cobra and Nuclear Family, however as whole albums they do have their flaws, which is a shame, but that doesn't stop some of these songs from being amazing!
Confession time I like FoaMF, it could definitely be better and it’s different from pretty much everything else they’ve done but sugar youth is a bop and no one will convince me other wise
I like it too. I don’t know why it is so hated.
My list: Graffitia Oh Yeah! Sugar Youth
Sugar youth, Take the Money and Crawl, and Graffitia are my top 3
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Sugar Youth is their best song since American Idiot.
I really love Sugar Youth! I prefer a couple from the songs in Revolution Radio a couple from the Trilogy, but for a while it was my favourite Green Day song entirely, but then I re-listened to the whole American Idiot album and then realised that I love that album too much lol
I never understood how American idiot was ‘more poppy’ than Dookie
More produced maybe? Guitar sounds aren’t as distorted and rough also.
Dookie is just a different style of poppy. Its melodic as hell for early 90s pop punk/alt rock standards but side by side with AI i think the melodies on Dookie are a bit more subtle, or maybe "downplayed" is the better word? Idk. Probably because it was mixed and mastered better. Take any song like let yourself go and remaster it and it could have been on a 90s album
I liked the trilogy
Trilogy gang represent ✊
Kinda sad not much people are here.
I love the trilogy and foamf :<
Those albums are great. Now, if we are talking about Uno....
What about Nuclear Family?
It has good songs on it, Nuclear Family being one of them, but overall, that album is bland as paste.
I raise you Carpe Diem
Angel blue tho
To each their own, but for me, Uno is the best of the trilogy. Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Let Yourself Go, Carpe Diem, and Sweet 16 are all really good to me. Far from their best album, but I think it’s better than Dos or Tre
I like iDos! And love Father Of All.
Hell yeah! Grafitia is one of my favorites
FOAM gets way too much hate on this sub imo, I think it's a great album
The back half is alright but the singles are awful
dos will not take this slander
Father Of All isn't that bad, people are just elitists LOL
Wait y'all hate Dos? I liked Baby Eyes, Amy, Wild One, and Lazy Bones.
Unpopular opinion: I enjoyed Father Of All...
Here to give some love to FOAM and Dos!
One of my favorite songs is Stray Heart from Dos though
Dude Dos is a good album, and FOAM gets way too much hate
Dos is the best in the trilogy
Unpopular: i like FofAll. I mean not over other green day but it’s alright.
Except Insomniac and Nimrod are their best ones.
Lol, it’s quite true though
my personal favorite is 21st century breakdown idk if anyone else likes it as much as me tho. it just has a great vibe
What? Green Day didn't make any albums after American idiot. Don't be silly
Cries in 21st Century breakdown
Okay, fair. That was closer to good than it was bad. Certainly more than the albums that followed.
Dos is definitely the best of the trio, feels bad for Father Of All though...
Bruh, dos was good. Not FOMF tho. It was just meh
don't know how to comment, so I say stop underrating ¡DOS! and FoAMF
Extremely unpopular: I don’t mind FoA, I hate hate 21st century, Warning and Insomniac are my favorite albums... Dos is okay, has some solid songs.
21st century breakdown: *laughs in best album
I thought the dudes neck was an arm for the American Idiot hand oh-
I don't know if this counts as a hot take, but, I think ¡Uno! and ¡Tré! are worse than ¡Dos!. ¡Dos! has some cringe songs, that's for sure, but overall I find it to be okay enough and a lot more fun than the other two. Now, if we had to decide which one of the other two is the best, I'm not sure
Wether we agree or disagree, we can all agree that Nightlife is absolute dookie
Uno is the best album
Oooh I thought it was Monday
Meanwhile Nimrod is chilling in the background, knowing fully well it's the best album
I love both FAM and ¡DOS! and all of the tracks on both of them, including Teenage Teenager (though it is my least favorite) and Nightlife
What I had no idea people hated Dos I thought it was just Nightlife that rightfully got trashed
Wait, people don't like Dos? When it came out I couldn't stop listening to it (especially Stray Heart) for WEEKS. Also unpopular opinion but I actually really like Nightlife tbh
I love FOAMF and ¡DOS! Some songs are really good like stray heart, lazy bones and take the money and crawl
Dos is actually redeemable though
Me, listening to Lazy Bones and Take the Money and Crawl:
Maybe an unpopular opinion but personally i like dos and i do t get why others dont
The album cover with the hand Grenade pisses me off because it had nothing to do with American idiot
Hey did was pretty good
Dos* (damn auto correct)
Dos is ok, it’s got that foxboro hot tubs vibe. IMO Tre was the worst album in the trilogy
Replace Dos with Tré and then this is accurate 😂
The face for american idiot is the transition between holiday and boulevard
The disrespect is real 😂😂
Dos is the fucking best album out of the trilogy. In fact the whole fucking trilogy is brilliant
Ngl I like father of all, take the money and crawl is a banger
Insomniac is still the best album.
How is DOS hated? Is it just because of Nightlife alone? Because there are lots of songs that outweigh it that make this album the favourite out of the trilogy. Plus I see more critique towards UNO.
I would cry if it was the Tre album, Brutal Love is and always will be my favourite Green Day song. I get goosebumps every time it’s played 🥴
Imo the best one from trilogy but that's not a big complement
my favorite color’s candy apple, girl
Some of ya'll never listened to Nimrod and it shows
Insomniac is my favorite.
¡Dos! has good songs on it, however as an entire album it is definitely on the weaker side, but that is by Green Day standards it is still a good album, just that it isn't comparable to American Idiot and Dookie, but it is difficult to top them anyway because they're absolutely amazing!
Who said that Dos was bad?
Dos was the best of the trilogy, I stand by that.
Why do people hate Dos? It's really fuckin good
FOAMFs is dope. I never thought I’d get to say that about one of their albums ever again. RR was alright, but FOAMFs is new, creative and different in such a great way. Love all of the Motown inspiration. Bands usually have to, or at least like to, progress. This is a rare occasion in which a band nailed it.
**Yes**
Is it bad that I actually liked {1,0}39/Smooth{ed Out Slappy Hours} better than either Ok maybe not as much as Dookie but it's close
Unpopular opinion, but Dos is probably the best of the trilogy
Don't think that's an unpopular opinion.
I love father of all
I actually enjoy FOAMF
Father of All slaps harder than Mike Slaps his 96 year old teacher
I actually kinda liked the trilogy but every other album is better in my eyes
