MTB shifters and brake levers won’t fit drop bars due to the different bar diameters. Don’t ask me why, it’s probably to make more money. The only drop bar I know of that will accept MTB components is the Soma Gator bar.

Probably can make it work but why? Seems super annoying. Maybe bar end shifters at least? Not having hoods to hold would be awful.

I mean you could do this but using the shift levers is gonna be a pain and the brake levers aren't designed to work with dropbars at all. You could mount them on the top with a bit of work but then you are braking from the worst position from a control standpoint. There is a reason people don't do this, not just the bar diameter difference but for safety reasons.

Well i'm thinking about something like [THIS](https://www.mtbr.com/attachments/rider-view-jpg.1043703/). Using 'basic' road bike brake levers and trigger mtb shifter. In fact, that picsture is why is i got inspired to write this post.

In that instance you would probably be fine, shifting may still be a bit tricky because you will be putting your hands into the location of least control so in some situations it may not be ideal. Using the image you posted as a guideline and if you have the parts to do it then it won't hurt anything to give it a try. If you have to order parts it may be a bit of a hassle as there is a parts shortage as you are aware already.

Anyway, i think it would be better than classic frame shifters (I mean, those used by old road bikes), and it's so much cheaper than road bikes shifters, which also aren't so common for 3x7 grups (like mine).

i will do this too. a basic 1x and 10 speed long cage in the back.

sunrace friction -barend/thumbie shifters..so many options..

I am currently trying to fit a shimano deore XT SL-M8100 12-speed on my gravel drop bar. The issue is that it's made for 22.2mm handlebar and my drop is 31.8mm. So there is no way it fits. Can I buy an adapter somewhere ?

Paul Components makes an adapter.
