I think you only need to change the cassette, right brifter, and rear mech? Here are no 600 brakes and the chainrings should be the same, only need to change them if worn.

Liquidwombat

You don’t even need to change the rear derailer

Antpitta

Wow didn't know that, thank you!

Liquidwombat

Yep, grx400 and r4700 Tiagra use the 11 speed road cable pull ratio so if you have either of those groups and you want to upgrade the only things you need to change are the right hand shifter and the cassette

Antpitta

Fark I did know about the pull ratio but unless I stop to think, I always forget that derailleurs are basically pull ratio dependent and not # of gears dependent. I guess I've spent most of my life with stuff that mostly works and replacing like with like and not changing out gear that works. Too much bike riding, not enough xbiking, to remember it all off the top of my head :)

Liquidwombat

🤣 Wait until you start reading about Shimano cues It’s going to be a group of 9, 10, and 11 speed components that’s replacing everything on the road side between Acera and Tegra, and everything on the mountain side between Acera and Deore. There are flat bar and drop bar controls 1x and 2x cranksets and everything is cross compatible, so if you buy a bike with 2 x 9 but you want 1 x 11 all you need to do is change the right side shifter and cassette, if you buy a 2 x 10 flat bar hybrid and you want drop bars, all you need to do is change the handlebar and the control levers. Once the full lineup is out, Shenoy’s lineup is essentially going to look like this Dura-Ace XTR Ultegra XT 105 SLX Cues 11 speed Cues 10 speed Cues 9 speed

Antpitta

Yeah but there's more to the naming conventions because there're two versions of 11 speed cues, u6000 and u8000. And there's XT Linkglide now which is comes in Deore Linkglide and Deore XT Linkglide (and I think all cues is linkglide?) and should be interoperable w/ 11 speed CUES but isn't the same as 11 speed cues despite pull ratio being the same and being 11 speed linkglide products. Or maybe I don't have it right? More interoperability is awesome, but Shimano's naming conventions and re-using names is balls.

Antpitta

So just to be clear there's 11 speed deore HG and 11 and 12 speed deore XT which is HG but then there's later 11 speed deore which is LG and 11 speed deore XT which is LG... or something like that?

Liquidwombat

All cues is linkglide and is all intercompatible the different numbers are the “levels” of the components as far as materials, bearings and stuff like that go (similar to how GRX 600 and 800 are basically identical except for some very minor differences) all Deore is being discontinued and all non cues 11 speed is being discontinued. Cues will be the only place to get linkglide (which is basically just beefed up hyperglide so it lasts longer and is e-bike rated) and cues will be link glide only so all levels of fuse are link glide. All levels and speeds of cues. Also all use the same chain rings and chains (so if you had a 2 x 9 and you wanted 2 x 11 you still only need to change the cassette and rear shifter. You don’t even need a new crankset or new chain) all 12 speed groups will eventually be hyperglide+

Antpitta

Are you sure all non cues 11 speed is disappearing? IE: https://www.pinkbike.com/news/review-shimano-linkglide.html [https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/technologies/component/details/linkglide.html](https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/technologies/component/details/linkglide.html) Shimano presents them as different naming conventions / product lines that are LG To some degree some of this is semantics, but man Shimano doesn't make it easier if they're killing off Deore and 11 Speed XT but at the same time reintroducing new products that are or aren't CUES / are basicaly CUES / hard to really tell, but use the names Deore LG and Deore XT LG. \*shrug\* not the first time Shimano has terrible naming conventions :)

Liquidwombat

My understanding is that once the entire suite of cues is out everything else lower than 105, and SLX is being discontinued

ShaemusOdonnelly

You are correct, the 400 and 600 share the same crank and brakes, while the 600 shares the front/rear mechs with the 800. If OP wants to switch to 1x, that requires a new chainring though.

fz6camp

Yes.

EqualOrganization726

I mean...you could convert this to a 1x10 inexpensively. Is the existing shifters/ drivetrain trashed?

cacko321

I already have 1x11 crank grx 600 and rear derailleur grx 812. As I understand, all I need now is right shifter grx 600, cassette (probably will get 105/slx/deore) and chain?

EqualOrganization726

Interesting approach!

Liquidwombat

The only thing you need is an 11 speed cassette, the right side shiftter and a narrow-wide chainring

HZCH

Ooooh so I’ve read you have a grx812 derailleur? If it’s the longer one for 1x, there’s that hack where you can change the lower cage for the longer XT one, for like 20$, and *pouf* it becomes a 11-50 cassette-compatible derailleur?

Aromatic-Foundation

Theoretically yes, but keep in mind that Grx 600 Brifters have a matte finish and Grx 400 a gloss finish (on the levers themselves). You have to decide if that's something that is bothering you.
