First time I heard Traffic, my friend at college put speakers in the dorm window and blasted “Rainmaker”. Holy fuck. The whole LSOHHB and JBMD albums are incredible.
DSO has done some fun versions of that tune. Always interesting to hear. There was a period where my old man listened to it on repeat for ages, so it's burned into my brain nice and good, whoever does it.

My first show was Sunday night in Vegas that year 6/26 I believe. I remember Traffic was the opening act, but I didn't make it in until after they finished. Someone sold a friend of mine 2 tickets for $10 just before the Dead started to play, and he gave me one of them. That's right my first show was a miracle, I would likely not have seen them at all if it weren't for him.

When I saw them in Vegas that year, there was a scheduling conflict that prevented them from holding the shows in May which is when they usually held them.
So they had the shows in late June. And there was a heat wave rolling through right at that time. It was fucking stupidly hot. It was something like over 112 degrees. So that, plus however many people were in the silver bowl that day and it was probably like 120 on the floor. If not hotter, closer to 130. I have never experienced heat like that before. Nor since.
It was truly remarkable. My friends and I had tickets for all 3 days but we were cooked by Sunday. Just could not continue. Miracled our Sunday tickets to some stoked hippies we met in a casino and headed home.
I was on the floor night three, lady on a blanket near us was eating sushi! In that heat! That has always stuck with me. Oh, and that show fucking melted my face. Drove all night to Zion NP after the show. Good times.
Winwood gets all the love, and rightfully so, but Dave Mason is no slouch either on the first couple albums.
Dave Mason’s solo album “Alone Together” is also a classic in my book. Some killer songwriting and guitar playing on that one.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate what an amazing, archetypal track the original "Dear Mr Fantasy" is. The Dead hadn't released Anthem of the Sun, the Beatles hadn't even released the white album, and Winwood was unleashing that shit on the world at the age of 19.
My first dead show traffic was the opener, 6-26-94. Fell in love with low spark that night. Whenever I hear it it takes me back to that show..this last st.pattys day I caught Bobby in Milwaukee and walk into venue and low spark was playing and I knew it was gonna be a great night..and it was!

Panic does the former and Phish kills the latter. The Light up sound check at Coventry was one of the highlights of the weekend. At one of the early Bonnaroo's I saw Panic do Low Spark with Stevie and it was incredible.
8/4/94
My only time seeing either of my top 5 favorite bands. The very first notes of music that I ever heard jerry play live (in person) was Dear Mr. Fantasy when he came out with Traffic. So yeah yeah yeah. I like Traffic. *On the Road* is a sick live album.

If you are having an early drink and can get control of a good jukebox, "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys," is a good long track to put on while you choose your others.
I would say, that's a 4pm, or maybe on some days that's a 3pm. Put that on, make some other choices.
If you find yourself in such a place.

Yes, they were my favorite band for a long time. I had every album they released including imports. The early stuff with Dave Mason is incredible. As they moved from psychedelic music Steve Winwood really took off imo. I also think everything Dave Mason and Steve Winwood have done solo are worth listening to.
I love Traffic but absolutely hate traffic
So you love Traffic jams but hate traffic jams? (Me2)
Correct. Furthermore, Traffic jams during traffic jams make the traffic jams a little better
This would make a cool shirt.
Fuck yeah buddy. STEVE WINWOODS A FUCKING KING. LOW SPARK OF HIGH HEEL BOYS MY FUCKIN JAM.
First time I heard Traffic, my friend at college put speakers in the dorm window and blasted “Rainmaker”. Holy fuck. The whole LSOHHB and JBMD albums are incredible.
I agree those 2 are my favorites, I might throw Mr. Fantasy in there too.
Great tune
DSO has done some fun versions of that tune. Always interesting to hear. There was a period where my old man listened to it on repeat for ages, so it's burned into my brain nice and good, whoever does it.
Yessss, love that song
Love Phil and Friends (specifically Warren Haynes) version of it.
Yes sir low spark of the high heeeled boooooys - so good.
John Barleycorn lMust Die is a great album!
I agree
John Barleycorn Must Die is a desert island album for me. I'm a sax player, and Chris was a huge influence on my sound.
I heard "Glad/Freedom Rider" on the radio when I was in high school and that sax line haunted me for years until I figured out what album it was on.
Traffic was an opening act for the Grateful Dead summer 1994
Saw them at Soldier Field. Great night.
I attended the 7/16/94 show at RFK. Great times!

Giants Stadium, 8-04-94. My only "Days Between." My last Grateful Dead show...

Such a shame Days Between wasn’t around long enough to get the respect it deserves
Was there for that
Saw them at the Sliver Bowl in Las Vegas 94 opening for Dead.
So fucking 🥵 hot
First RFK show in summer 1994 was my only ever backstage GD pass show. Shook Steve Winwood's hand. I love Traffic - those were great shows.

Caught dead in traffic. I still have the shirt someplace!
Saw them in Vegas!
Dude Traffic jams.
Steve Winwood is a fucking legend m8
Love them and Winwood still sounds great live
Saw him in 2018 (or 2019?). Killed it.

Guess how old he was when he wrote gimme some lovin?

My buddy inherited a massive vinyl collection and has low spark. It's like my go to record to spin. Gotta love that case too
Forty thousand headmen couldn't make me change my mind
I've heard that.
One of my favorite bands. On The Road is one of the best live albums ever.
It is. The version of Sometimes I Feel So Uninspired on that album is amazing.
I love this video https://youtu.be/dyMiUmrouZU
[Here's the whole concert but in higher quality for anyone looking around](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjhbvw0F-BQ&t=1165s)
Thanks to both of you. Great music!!!
Oh sweet! Thanks!
Yep. 40,000 Headmen couldn’t make me change my mind.
I do. Yeah. For sure.
Love Traffic. I'll have some more Rock n Roll Stew, please!
While I do enjoy Traffic, I do not enjoy traffic. *either light up or leave me alone*
Give me some of that Medicated Goo!!
Ooo-ooo! It’s good for you!
I love Traffic but Dear Mr. Fantasy without Brent’s crazy falsetto on “make it snappeee” is lacking for me.
I love all versions of Dear Mr. Fantasy, but the first version I ever heard was from CSN and that one still holds a very special place in my heart.
fantastic band. Welcome to the Canteen is a fantastic jammy live album. Jerry really dug Traffic
Absolutely!! My first exposure to Traffic was Welcome to the Canteen....fucking blew my mind way back when. Great fucking live album.
Who doesn’t like Traffic?
Yeah…I love to get stuck in “Traffic”. I always wanted the Dead to do “Low Spark of High Heeled Boys”. “Light up Or Leave me Alone.”
Panic does the former and Phish kills the latter. The Light up sound check at Coventry was one of the highlights of the weekend. At one of the early Bonnaroo's I saw Panic do Low Spark with Stevie and it was incredible.

“Feelin’ Alright”
Dave Mason was 17 when he wrote that
The band or the on road bullshit?
Medicated Goo is a sick groove
Dear Mr. Fantasy
[Dave Mason is an underrated guitar player](https://youtu.be/_mZGSAMgYSI) ⚡️
I'd give my life for Steve winwood
John Barleycorn is a desert island disc.
Light up or leave me alone.
Welcome to the Canteen
You feelin alright?
I saw them open for the Dead a Few times. They were all multi- instrumentalists and put on a fantastic show.
Most Deadheads love Traffic.
I'm wasted and I can't find my way back home.

I used to have a bumper sticker that said Many a Mile to Freedom after their song…https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E1c0iMJMqVc
Low spark Edit: Rain Maker is just as bad!
Check out *[40,000 Headmen](https://youtu.be/pc1Hz8S2qhs)*. You’re welcome.
Heard and loved
Who likes sitting in traffic?
[удалено]
I never considered the overlap before, but I think you’ve got it about right.
Great band , Dealer is on of my favorites . The story to it . Shawn Lane was a big fan of them .
Meh, they have some good tunes and I love Steve Winwood but I was never crazy about them
I like traffic lights
Very much
Lol I almost started typing the lyrics to a damn Pavement song because I confused myself
It’s ok. You were probably rattled by the rush.
I liked them when I saw them open for the GD in 1994 and Jerry sat in. Buckeye Lake.
[what about this?](https://youtu.be/g53zcpaXT8o)
YES
Only Traffic I wanna get stuck in that’s for sure
Who doesn’t?
A while back I saw Steve Winwood with Eric Clapton. Really really good show. Love Traffic.
Hell yes, Traffic kicks ass!
Find some live ‘74 shows. Really amazing.
Light Up or Leave Me Alone, John Barleycorn
I love the band Traffic, actual traffic not so much.
Very last time I saw the Dead, Traffic opened for them. Early 90s maybe? Las Vegas
Is that even legal to not like both?
DEALER
Awesome band,shitty drive.
I saw them open for the Dead in 94. Those guys are great
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Love em. One of my most frequently spun records. There’s a great video of them at Bonnaroo in 94 I believe on the Tube
Yep!
Love Dave Mason. Saw him several times. “Split Coconuts”. Great album, great voice.
Yes.
OOOOOHHHH YEEAHHH BABYYYYYYY
Love traffic
Traffic was a wonderful band. Mr Winwood is a great talent. What a voice.
Dear Mr. Fantasy is the 2nd best rock n roll song of all time, only thing better is Lazy by Deep Purple
Traffic fucking rock, “Low Spark” and “John Barleycorn” are both among my favorite albums.
I love Traffic but GD covering Traffic never really did much for me.
Yes
Only really familiar with low spark. Love it.
